[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 727620] Re: [Radeon HD 5650 and 5470] Kernel BUG during recovery boot and in normal boot (Hybrid graphics)

2011-08-19 Thread josejuan05
Ok.

So far I've had 11 consecutive successful boots with bisect012

I took another look at 005. While the screen goes black and I can bring
up no TTY, kern.log shows no evergreen_cp_resume errors. Furthermore,
the system eventually gets to the gdm login screen (I can hear the ding
noise and can move my cursor and keys in order to restart the system,
blindly), but the screen is still black. I managed to properly boot to
the gdm login screen 20 times consecutively. Furthermore, I didn't get
any kernel panics.

As it doesn't appear exhibit the evergreen_cp_resume error, I believe
for the purposes of the bisect that 005 should be in the good
category, with 001 and 004 (and, by my testing, 012)

As for the _gart_unbind error, I will hold off on reporting it unless I
see it again, since I have only seen it on a bisect.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 828615] Re: Samsung NP400B2B (Sandy Bridge) hangs in Natty after a few minutes on desktop

2011-08-19 Thread Tom Womack
'top' shows no processes but an increasing load average; 'iotop' shows
flush and jbd2 processes in 100% I/O state.

I've returned the laptop and acquired another one so will be unable to
help with further diagnosis.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 775060] Re: Random GUI freezes in Natty (can only move the cursor) (might be a segfault)

2011-08-19 Thread Frode Svendsen
I'm having a similar problem, the screen freezes an I can only
manipulate the mouse curser. I can see that the curser still is context
sensitive (changes to I-beam shape over text-fields etc), but there is
no other response from X. Attaching to a different console (ctrl-alt-#)
gives me only a black screen, but I can carefully log in blindly and get
back into X by restarting the gdm service.

I can reliably reproduce the problem by starting DavMail Gateway and a
mail client (tested with Thunderbird and Evolutuion). If I mouse over
the DavMail client icon in my status-bar, which would normally give me a
status pop-up, the screen will freeze if not running in Classic without
effects.

I'm running the 2.6.38-11 kernel and Ati Mobility radeon HD3650 with
catalyst version 11.5.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 829334] [NEW] Xorg doesn't start after the update

2011-08-19 Thread Alex
Public bug reported:

Well, not sure if Xorg or not, but after i did an update (using security
updates and recommended ones) the system would not boot into using the
2.6.38-11-generic linux kernel. I did a disk check and all was fine (from the
recovery tool in grub). After the disk check finished it went to a booting
terminal that stopped at checking battery state. And that was that.
2.6.38-10 works fine. I'm on a pc. I don't have a battery.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 828893] Re: left mouse button ignored

2011-08-19 Thread Shaheed Haque
Today, discovered that the problem (for me at least) is not simply that
the system either starts off wit the left click not working, or that it
goes from working to non-working. I have also seen it go from non-
working to working. So the problem is not just something getting stuck
- it can go as well as come.

Also, when my system was in the broken state last night, I tried:

- booting from a 11.04 USB stick.

- installing the above (without updates) to a spare partition.

- upgrading the above to the current oneiric alpha.

The xorg mouse continued to be broken in all cases.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 816331] Re: Third mouse-button emulation not working anymore

2011-08-19 Thread Bryce Harrington
Hi Lennart,

Yes, this is in the release notes for Natty Narwhal:

https://wiki.ubuntu.com/NattyNarwhal/ReleaseNotes
The -evdev driver no longer provides middle mouse button emulation. 2-button
mice that need this functionality are quite rare these days. The emulation mode
causes a laggy pointer in cases where emulation is not needed, so this change
improves responsiveness for all users. If you have a 2-button mouse that needs
this, please see the directions for creating a 2-button mouse quirk. (710762)

https://wiki.ubuntu.com/X/Quirks#2-button%20Mice

See the directions at the bottom of the above page for how to request
enablement of the 3rd mouse button. You can skip step #3 since this bug
report is already open, but make sure to include the info from step #4.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 815000] Re: Oneiric X/LightDM doesn't start on an Intel GMA500

2011-08-19 Thread Bryce Harrington
If X just needs to be changed to use fbdev instead, then can you verify this?
Put the following into your /etc/X11/xorg.conf and restart X:

Section Device
Identifier Configured Video Device
Driver fbdev
EndSection

Section Monitor
Identifier Configured Monitor
EndSection

Section Screen
Identifier Default Screen
Monitor Configured Monitor
Device Configured Video Device
EndSection

If that works, then perhaps we merely need to s/vesa/fbdev/ in xorg-
server for poulsbo.

Hi Rasmus,

Looks like you have an invalid configuration. You're running -intel but
it doesn't support as many monitors as your xorg.conf has configured.
Also you have the -nvidia kernel module installed, but X can't cope with
multi-card setups, and we don't support hybrid graphics at this time in
Ubuntu.

The bundled OpenGL ES features are unusable when installing via the
package manager. The current fix is to install without the package
manager, however, this should not happen.

I created a bug ticket on the unofficial ati/fglrx driver bug report system,
however, the package install still posses problems...
ttp://ati.cchtml.com/show_bug.cgi?id=126

I also attached a sample program which is based on AMD's own OpenGL ES
sample that was posted last year on their blog...

http://blogs.amd.com/developer/2010/07/26/opengl-es-2-0-coming-to-a
-desktop-near-you/

This test program loads the function eglGetProcAddress located in
libGL.so.1, and then proceeds to load the rest of the egl and gles
function pointers via the function eglGetProcAddress. This works when
using the official installer, but not when you use generate system
packages for use in the package manager. Also, as a small note, the
attached sample needs the ninja folder from the amd's blog to finish the
render test. The output should be an gles rendering of a ninja in a
800x480 window

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 827520] Re: All keyboard input results in beeping

2011-08-19 Thread Lennart Weller
As my bug report was marked duplicate I answer here instead. Actually
this should be filed against nautilus. After trying to determine the
origin of this bug it seems to be the in folder search feature of
nautilus. Which also appears on the desktop in unity/unity2D on some
occasions and is problematic as you can't release focus from the search
field without clicking somewhere else on the desktop which again is
impossible with fullscreen applications like mplayer.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 827520] Re: All keyboard input results in beeping

2011-08-19 Thread Bryce Harrington
Lennart, aha, very interesting. I'll send it to nautilus for them to
review, although I wonder if it might be due to some alteration made for
unity so perhaps it ultimately belongs there.

I'm still guessing you and brad are seeing the same issue since both
your reports came in at roughly the same time and seem to be describing
the same behavior. If you disagree please un-dupe the bugs and/or
refile them to the right packages accordingly.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 829799] [NEW] Alps GlidePoint Touchpad behaves strangely

2011-08-19 Thread benste
Public bug reported:

I've installed an updated my new Vaio VPC-SB today which does have this
Touchpad which allows two finger wipes in Windows - so I'm suspecting it
to be a multitouch touchpad.

However booting Ubuntu i can' move the cursor correctly - most of the time it
tends to move right when moving on the touchpad.
In addition it's flickering a little bit up and down. Which makes overall the
Touchpad unuseable - at least at this point.
