[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 877129] [NEW] New version (11.9) available
Public bug reported: A new version of fglrx is available from ATI. It seems that this version fixes the color distortions in Gnome3 with gnome-shell enabled. More info is also available from http://ati.cchtml.com/show_bug.cgi?id=99. This version does leave some tearing when using gnome-shell, but at least it makes it usable. ** Affects: fglrx-installer (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to fglrx-installer in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/877129 Title: New version (11.9) available To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/fglrx-installer/+bug/877129/+subscriptions ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 877014] [NEW] Screen stays dim following unlock
Public bug reported: Dell D410 laptop. After the first screen unlock following boot, the screen does not come up from power save mode i.e. it stays dim until I use the Fn/^ keys to bring up the brightness manually. The slider position is initially at the low end ... as soon as it moves one position, the screen goes to max brightness. After this has happened once, the screen starts dimming again after some timeout occurs. I have turned off the "dim screen to save power" option with no effect. Formerly (before release), I got a "False GPU lockup" crash associated with the screen dimming problem ... the crash does not happen any more, but the screen dimming problem following unlock remains. I already created an Xorg file manually, because I thought I'd have to add a few lines in the "Device" section to get the issue resolved, but never mind. Your solution is excellent. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 868400] Re: Synaptics touchpad stops working
My 2 pennyworth: Wishing to extend the time syndaemon disables the touchpad, I configured a 'startup application' consisting of "syndaemon -i 2 -d -K -t ". The option to 'disable the mouse when typing' (in the mouse settings) was still checked, and as soon as I started typing, the cursor froze. System monitor showed 2 instances of syndaemon running, which seems to have been the issue. Fixed it by unchecking the 'mouse setting option', leaving my startup command to do the job alone. Seems OK so far. Does ANYONE know where the default settings for syndaemon can be changed, avoiding this workaround? I cannot find them anywhere! [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 874694] Re: Resolution cannot be set higher than 640x480 and doesn't fit screen
To me there is a problem around KMS with i915. As far as I understand, the value 0 disable the KMS and force the usage of the video driver mode detection instead of the kernel base handling. So, I would say this is rather a KMS (aka Kernel 3.0 ?) issue. Anybody please correct me if my understanding is wrong. I noticed a first problem with value 0, you can run Ubuntu but you will not be able to perform some tasks such as : - Switch from user console (CTRL+ALT+number) - Switch from user session (user menu at top right) - Close a user session (menu at top right) Basically anything that makes the screen mode switch (once started) now makes the screen goes black, and the only solution is then to reboot. So, I do not consider my solution as a complete workaround. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 876746] [NEW] Turning off laptop display does not work
You have been subscribed to a public bug: I am using open-source drivers for my ati card. If I connect an external monitor to my laptop (acer aspire 8942g) it connects and I can see a clear imagine, but if I try to turn off my laptops display via gnome- display-properties the external monitor continues working, but my laptops display starts to show my sequently changing colors on the full screen like on a display test. Sometimes I start my laptop and and the laptop display shows normal sometimes the resolution is low and sometimes it again shows these colors (always with my external monitor connected). I had ati proprietary drivers installed once and everything worked fine and I could turn my laptops display off, but not on the open source drivers. Also turning my laptops monitor with Fn+F6 does work, but after I press any key on the keyboard it turns on again. Normally (as stated above) the touchpad area is from 1472 to 5744 for the x-axis and 1408 to 4792 on the y-axis. When this happen: 1) touching the right side i get x: 5800 (correct), istead on the left side 5600(incorrect). So it's like the x coordinate isn't read correctly on the left side of the touchpad. 2) Related to the first issue, doing the same thing in an area close to the bottom-right corner i get a value of x that range from 5000 to 5700. Thus the touchpad somehow works on the bottom right area. 3) However if i touch on the right area and move to the left area without removing the finger the x coordinate correctly range from 5800 to 1100!! 4) the other issue it's the wrong number of fingers. Again touching on the bottom-right corner i get one finger (correct), instead on the left side 2 I didn't find the reason that generated this bug, so i can't reproduce it. Looking at the xorg logs or dmesg i didn't notice any error message. ** Affects: xserver-xorg-input-synaptics (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xserver-xorg-input-synaptics in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/876782 Title: Touchpad loose X axis and mostly detect 2 fingers To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xserver-xorg-input-synaptics/+bug/876782/+subscriptions ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 876711] [NEW] Screen brightness resets to minmized when screen turns off
Public bug reported: The brightness of the laptop screen (Dell D430, intel video, standard driver) always resets to minmized when screen turns off and on again. While trying to make it maximized using standard keys the brightness progress bar does not function properly - if one presses continuously "brightness up" the progress bar goes up and then down with every press. Still after several presses it's possible to maximize the brightness of the screen. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 873482] Re: elantech: Touchpad always reports 3 finger tap as 1 finger tap
As far as I can tell from http://pkgs.fedoraproject.org/gitweb/?p=xorg-x11-drv-synaptics.git, Fedora just ships the upstream tarball, so it doesn't have debian/patches/120_active_touches_num_fingers.patch, which is what is causing the issue. I did have a thought though. If I understand the patch correctly, it expects to have a pair of touch coordinates for each finger, and then only increments active_touches if they fall in the active region of the touchpad. Since the elantech touchpads only report a single pair of coordinates for three finger taps, the maximum for active_touches is only 1. My thought was to keep track of how many pairs of coordinates were received, both in active and inactive regions, and then do a sort of sanity check before using the active_touches data. If the number of pairs received is 1 when we receive a SYN_REPORT, but the kernel didn't send a single tap event, then something is wrong, and we probably should just go with what the kernel sent us. To keep track of the pairs of coordinates, I've been using ABS_MT_TRACKING_ID, and incrementing the number of pairs when it is not -1, decrementing otherwise. This fixes the issue for me (triple taps work again), but it is really more of a rough idea at this point, since I am not very familiar with the synaptics xorg driver. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xserver-xorg-input-synaptics in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/873482 Title: elantech: Touchpad always reports 3 finger tap as 1 finger tap To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xserver-xorg-input-synaptics/+bug/873482/+subscriptions ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp
Re: [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 728745] Re: [nvidia, 7300, 7400] display freeze when using unity desktop
Okay, I understand the issue about the NVIDA drivers being propriety and nothing can be done about them. But I fell for the understanding I picked up somewhere that 11.10 had worked things out. In 11.04 I could try the NVIDA drivers and then just select the Nouveau driver to get back ground zero. That didn't happen in 11.10. I don't have the option of selecting Nouveau in the Advanced Driver area. And unfortunately 11.10 has moved things all around and much of the instructions from 11.04 don't work. Can someone provide step by step instructions on how to return to the Nouveau drivers in 11.10? I promise I'll never trust an NVIDA driver again. I'm comfortable using the terminal I just don't remember the commands or know where to look for anything. Thanks in advance for any help with this. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 876613] [NEW] [Thinkpad T510] Plugging in DisplayPort causes Unity to crash
Public bug reported: Filing this against xorg initially as I'm not sure if it's related to the driver or if it's a Unity bug, though I've not seen this behaviour on other systems. Plugged an external monitor into the Thinkpad T510 (7375) using the DisplayPort port. The external monitor DID come alive and dislay at least the 11.10 background, but Unity crashed (panel, launcher and window-decorations all went away). I had to drop to a console and reset Unity to get all the controls back and working. Tried this twice and same thing happened each time. Plug in DisplayPort, Unity, Window decorations, Launcher all disappear even though external monitor comes on (also with no panel). unity --reset at console after unplugging external monitor to fix. I'm also attaching a short video showing this as it occurs. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 825548] Re: Touchpad cursor moves twice as fast horizontally after connecting an external monitor
it seems that something scales the touchpad x/y speeds to the virtual screen size, without respecting aspect ratio. as this does not happen with other mice, the synaptics driver probably is to be blamed. there's a crude hack for this bug: mimick the aspect ratio via setting the virtual screen size with xrandr 1) figure out the virtual screen size (the screen size is automatically shrink-wrapped to the smallest possible size to contain all monitors) e.g. on my laptop, with an external monitor connected: ~$ xrandr Screen 0: minimum 320 x 200, current 3360 x 1080, maximum 8192 x 8192 LVDS1 connected 1440x900+0+180 (normal left inverted right x axis y axis) 261mm x 163mm 1440x900 50.0*+ 1360x768 59.8 60.0 1152x864 60.0 1024x768 60.0 800x60060.3 56.2 640x48059.9 VGA1 connected 1920x1080+1440+0 (normal left inverted right x axis y axis) 509mm x 286mm 1920x1080 60.0*+ 1280x1024 75.0 60.0 1152x864 75.0 1024x768 75.1 60.0 800x60075.0 60.3 640x48075.0 60.0 720x40070.1 HDMI1 disconnected (normal left inverted right x axis y axis) DP1 disconnected (normal left inverted right x axis y axis) 2) increase the screen size to have the same aspect ratio as your synaptics touchpad (here, it's ~3360/1.938): ~$ xrandr --fb 3660x1734 -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xserver-xorg-input-synaptics in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/825548 Title: Touchpad cursor moves twice as fast horizontally after connecting an external monitor To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/xserver-xorg-input-synaptics/+bug/825548/+subscriptions ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 859474] Re: Dragging with touchpad unusable
I have tried reverting to Gnome Shell and still have the problem, however I did try some other linux os and these worked fine. It seem to only effect Unity 3D and 2D as far as I can tell. Also I did try XFCE 4.8 on my 11.10 system and this worked fine. I have also tried some settings but alas still not working as well as it used to. I am sure it will be resolved very soon and I can work around it by using the left touch pad button and then move window as normal. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xserver-xorg-input-synaptics in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/859474 Title: Dragging with touchpad unusable To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/unity/+bug/859474/+subscriptions ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp
[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 874675] Re: Drag and Drop in Ubuntu 11.10 is very bad
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 859474 *** https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/859474 Tried all the above and still not working? I did install XFCE4.8 and it worked fine for me after that. It seems to be a Unity problem. I will try and install the Gnome Shell only and see what happens. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xserver-xorg-input-synaptics in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/874675 Title: Drag and Drop in Ubuntu 11.10 is very bad To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xserver-xorg-input-synaptics/+bug/874675/+subscriptions ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp
