[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 881821] [NEW] Cursor randomly drops at zero in Gimp

2011-10-26 Thread Julien Jorge
Public bug reported:

Hi,

When using a Wacom tablet with Gimp in Oneiric the cursor randomly drops
at zero on one axis or the other, making the software unusable.

The bug is reported on Gnome's Bugzilla and the discussion pointed out
that the cause may be the driver or GTK. See the report for the complete
discussion and a screencast of the problem:
http://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=661872

The problem did not exist in Natty. I have also installed the xserver-
xorg-input-wacom package from Natty in Oneiric with no success.

** Affects: xf86-input-wacom (Ubuntu)
 Importance: Undecided
 Status: New

Hi Abdul, unfortunately we're no longer providing development support
for i845 in Ubuntu for Oneiric. Ubuntu may still function on this

bring the issues directly to upstream at bugs.freedesktop.org.

2011-10-26 Thread P P
Unfortunately yes, lot of problems with intel gpu. I got random X
restart, where I lost windows-decoration and all unity stuff (without
being able to get it back ). Additionally I got glitches and artifacts
playing games - I've reported bug in intel-gpu bugzilla

https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=41893

which is duplicate bug of

https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=39730

Looks many users with sandy bridge are affected.

Many thanks,

intel driver from this ppa. I installed only intel driver from x update ppa.
thus i completely solved this.
I can do every thing in Lucid including playing 3D games.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 745112] Re: [arrandale] desktop is messed up with external monitors (x86_64)

2011-10-26 Thread mrlarkin
I can confirm heavy problems with oneiric. My Laptop (Lenovo X201s on a docking
station) is connected via display port to a 19 Dell screen. This screen stays
black when I activate it via gnome or fn+f7. Sometimes (i.e. not reproducible)
the screen gets a signal after multiple rounds of pressing fn+f7 (~20 times).
Rebooting the laptop with the monitor switched off an switching on when I am
logged in again does not help at all.

In dmesg the following logs appear:
[ 150.471512] [drm] Changing LVDS panel from (-hsync, -vsync) to (-hsync,
+vsync)
[ 151.315930] [drm:intel_dp_complete_link_train] *ERROR* failed to train DP,

aborting
[ 155.196290] [drm:intel_dp_complete_link_train] *ERROR* failed to train DP,
aborting
[ 171.041755] [drm:intel_dp_i2c_aux_ch] *ERROR* too many retries, giving up

I will provide further information as needed.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 839338] Re: [arrandale] GPU lockup render.IPEHR: 0x01820000

2011-10-26 Thread Michael
As I reported a duplicate of this: hard to say, as the bug was reported
automatically without my being aware of anything amiss.

I have seen odd lock-ups after resume from memory, most recently a week
or two ago, though I don't know whether they are the same issue - it is
hard to work out anything useful about them, as the backlight is not
enabled, I can only just see that the laptop is stuck in text mode with
what might (but I can't be sure) be a kernel panic backtrace, and the
crash kernel which I installed and tested via sysrq obstinately refuses
to start (as far as I can tell with no backlight). (Any thoughts,
including possible alternative bugs to listen in on are welcome.)

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 550625] Re: Alps touchpad is recognized but synaptics clients and scrolling do not work

2011-10-26 Thread Luciano Panepucci
Hi quarara,

I have the same hardware (Dell Inspiron 15r) and ubuntu 11.10 release.

My touchpad was working in a super basic (move and click) mode.

After reading all the comments I got it working by installing Seth's
psmouse-alps-dkms_0.10_all.deb from comment #492.

Now I have:
 - touchpad preferences in system settings
 - two finger vertical and horizontal scroll
 - tow finger right-click

Seth Rocks!

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 820881] Re: [i945] Heavy screen and font corruption on GMA950

2011-10-26 Thread zemerica
I have this problem in Unity 2D, 3D, Gnome Classic (which are all I've tried)
I've tried modifying xorg.conf in several different ways, to no avail:
tiling-false, debugwait true. It's gotten worse with Oneric - I had some Video
RAM ## solution in xorg.conf that I'll post the link to if I find it that
seemed to do the trick in Natty. After debugwait-true, the corruption seemed
to change a little bit such that there were no longer missing or unwritten
pieces of fonts, but the overall boxy corruption issues remained. I have
additional ram en route and will update if this helps the problem. for what
it's worth...

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 676166] Re: Unity Launcher corruption when resuming from suspend/hibernate

2011-10-26 Thread Rainer Rohde
Still have this issue as well.

As a side note, simply hovering over the launcher when coming out of
suspend or hibernation when a window is maximized doesn't always clear
the corruption. I then have to first minimize the window and then touch
the launcher with the mouse cursor and it clears up.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 550625] Re: Alps touchpad is recognized but synaptics clients and scrolling do not work

2011-10-26 Thread quarara
Hi Luciano,

I'm glad that you've got your hardware fully working with Oneiric Ocelot! :)
Maybe your Inspron 15r it's different from mine. I bought it a couple of weeks
ago, my model has a nice chiclet keyboard. The Inspiron's pre-2011 have a old
school keyboard in it. When have you bought your pc? If it is from 2010 or so
maybe your touchpad is slightly different from mine.

Let me know!

Luigi

I have apport enabled to fix a few other bugs so I thought I report that bug
too.
Is there a fix for apport-gpu-error-intel.py?

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 882143] [NEW] Separate x-screens option does not result in a desktop manager on the 2nd screen

2011-10-26 Thread Kevin Dahl
Public bug reported:

In a dual monitor setup, using the nvidia driver 'current' (because 173
won't even allow for settings to be changed), the Separate X Screens
option results in a desktop on one (the main) screen, and the other
screen with a blank white background and the default X cursor.

Enabling Xinerama in this same configuration results in a X session that
freezes shortly after login.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 882232] [NEW] window-switcher confused as to location of awakened-window

2011-10-26 Thread Christopher Barrington-Leigh
Public bug reported:

Gnome 3 environment.
open a terminal.
launch some pdf.: evince test.pdf
Now move evince window it to another space (ctrl-alt-rightarrow)
now have a look at which windows the manager thinks are on this workspace:
alt-tab. There should be just your terminal.
now relaunch the pdf:
evince test.pdf
Nothing visible happens, since the window is on another workspace.
But look at what the manager thinks: press alt-tab and you will see that the
new window is apparently on the current workspace. really? so try to pick it.
ie alt-tab until you choose it. now it's in focus. but invisible. This is
rong: Either it should not be listed on this workspace, or we should move to it
if we select it with the window switcher.

It remains in the alt-tab listing until we visit it where it really is
(alt-ctrl-righarrow) and come back.

(I think this is bad behaviour. I have a makefile that creates and
launches a pdf, but I want it to stay on another workspace, and I want
to be able to switch between my two windows on my main workspace. So
this phantom window gets in the way, and unexpectedly.)

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 882232] Re: window-switcher confused as to location of awakened-window

2011-10-26 Thread Christopher Barrington-Leigh
** Description changed:

  Gnome 3 environment.
  open a terminal.
  launch some pdf.: evince test.pdf
Now move evince window it to another space (ctrl-alt-rightarrow)
now have a look at which windows the manager thinks are on this workspace:
alt-tab. There should be just your terminal.
  now relaunch the pdf:
  evince test.pdf
Nothing visible happens, since the window is on another workspace.
- But look at what the manager thinks: press alt-tab and you will see that the
new window is apparently on the current workspace. really? so try to pick it.
ie alt-tab until you choose it. now it's in focus. but invisible. This is
rong: Either it should not be listed on this workspace, or we should move to it
if we select it with the window switcher.
+ But look at what the manager thinks: press alt-tab and you will see that the
new window is apparently on the current workspace. really? so try to pick it.
ie alt-tab until you choose it. What happens? Nothing! Your focus doesn't
change. Your workspace doesn't change. to where that window really is. This is
rong: Either it should not be listed on this workspace, or we should move to it
(and it should come into focus) if we select it with the window switcher.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 881046] Re: Panning in a virtual monitor is not possible after upgrade to Ubuntu 11.10

2011-10-26 Thread Ernesto Torresin
In the ubuntu-users mailing list somebody suggested that this may be a bug in
the X server itself, caused by a fix to
https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=20334 (Mouse shouldn't move into
area outside the monitors).

I don't know the internals of the xlib randr extension, but if the
suggestion above is correct, how could a bug concerning a dual monitor
setup affect panning on a single monitor? Is panning achieved by
emulating a dual monitor setup on the same screen?

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 813343] Re: nvidia drivers, second monitor covered by black

2011-10-26 Thread Bill Gurley
I'm having the same symptom as that of Michael, #34. Also a Quadro
card.

I cannot get Twinview to work since I upgraded to Ubuntu 11.10. My
computer is a Dell Optiplex 960, with a Dell-supplied nVidia Quadro NVS
420 card, connected via DVI to two Dell 2009W monitors. Until Monday, I
was successfully using my two monitors in twinview mode, using the
nVidia restricted driver, and Ubuntu 10.04. On Monday, I performed a
step-wise upgrade to 11.10. Since that time, I have not been able to
get dual monitors to work. A single monitor setup with the nvidia
driver works fine. When I use nvidia-settings to enable the second
monitor, and then reboot, the second monitor initially flashes the
normal ubuntu desktop color, and then immediately goes to a grayish-
white screen. If I move the mouse pointer to the second monitor, the
pointer changes from an arrow to the old X-windows X pointer. If I
right-click the screen of the second monitor, it will change to the
normal color. But doing anything else causes it to go white again.
Also in this mode, Unity running on the primary screen behaves oddly.
For example, files sitting on the desktop cannot be moved with the
mouse. Another notable point is that when I use nvidia-settings to
enable the secondary monitor, the Twinview choice is shaded and not
available. I tried purging all nvidia files with apt-get and removing
xorg.conf to start over, and then installed nvidia-current from PPA, but
it did not help. I am running 64-bit Oneiric, and the nvidia driver is
285.05.09.

For now, I am using a single monitor, hoping that this is a bug that can
be fixed soon.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 838577] Re: GNOME Shell display problems with FGLRX

2011-10-26 Thread Benjamin Schmid
Using an ATI 4200 HD upgrading to Catalyst 11.9 did NOT WORK for me, either.
Rainbow effect is solved, and display looks fine for a few second, but soon
gets disorted (window contents diagonally shifted) and instable. Switching to
text console returns a unreadablye display and finally locks the whole netbook
(Thinkpad Edge 11).

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 854388] Re: oneiric release live CD video corruption on nvidia GeForce 6150SE

2011-10-26 Thread Jim Leinweber
The nvidia binary 285.05.09 driver doesn't completely solve the problem either.
Large windows display as all white; if you resize them small enough they
display again. E.g. the default terminal window size is OK, but 3x that size
is not.
Trying to switch users is a complete disaster; the screen never recovers from
that.

2011-10-26 Thread Frank Jones
Not Jeff.Frank Jones and same problem gpu hang up.It freezes up randomly
and it doesnt matter what you are doing. Mine is freezing up multiple
times a day.before it hangs the video Distorts or goes black.after it
freezes you can go back to what you are doing but when you scroll down a
page it does it with a wave effect. To clear it up you have to restart
the comp.Never had this until i dowloaded 11.10 off of updates.

 Hi Jeff,

Have you seen more of these freezes or just this one? Have you seen it
since the release? How frequently does it occur? (Daily/Weekly/etc.)

Can you tell me what you were doing prior to the freeze (like, resume
from suspend, using a 3D application, or whatever)? If you see these
freezes often, does it always freeze on the same activity or is it
 seemingly random?

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 868400] Re: Synaptics touchpad stops working

2011-10-26 Thread Thucydides411
I have the exact same problem a Karl in post #29. I have an Asus G53 Jw,
so our systems are probably very similar. This problem showed up right
after an upgrade from 11.04 to 11.10, and then again after a fresh
install of 11.10. My touchpad freezes, and when it comes back, it starts
grabbing windows and moving them around erratically. The touchpad worked
fine in 11.04, so this is a bug in 11.10.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 864537] Re: after upgrading to oneiric beta 2, got a black screen

2011-10-26 Thread Marcelo
I have a similar problem:

Background:
* Acer Aspire Revo, with Nvidia ION (usually just running XBMC standalone)
* I've been using Oneiric since it was officially released on on 2011.10.10.
* Previously I was using Ubuntu 10.10, also with the nvidia drivers

Symptom:
* Everything working perfectly, using nvidia config tool to setup xorg.conf to
make use of the 1080p resolution of my TV
* A couple of days ago I rebooted, and got a blank screen
* The xorg logs showed an error related to no screen found

Attempt at fixing:
* Removed the xorg.conf file and rebooted
* Xorg run correctly, but in a lower resolution mode (which is the reason I
need to use nvidia config to force 1080p)
* I get into nvidia config, set everything up and overwrite xorg.conf
* Now I reboot the platform and the problem seems to be gone

Now, for some weird reason, after a second reboot I get the exact same
symptom... blank screen. The Xorg.conf file seems to be exactly as the
nvidia config tool left it. Again, if I repead the fix I recover my
screen but will only last until I reboot a couple of times.

Any thoughts?

Followup on my entry, #42:As suggested in #12, I installed xfce4. I

no anomalies. Looks like this may be a Unity bug instead of

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 549727] Re: Touchpad stops working after login

2011-10-26 Thread Daniel Griswold
On a Toshiba Protege M700, I did not have the issue with 11.04 amd64.
After the upgrade to 11.10, my touchpad stops working shortly after
login. Performed fresh install of 11.10 amd64 and issue persisted.

Unchecking disable touchpad while typing, as suggested in this bug,
keeps my touchpad functional.

*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 576648 ***
https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/576648

Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. This particular bug has already been reported and is a
duplicate of bug 576648, so it is being marked as such. Please look at
the other bug report to see if there is any missing information that you
can provide, or to see if there is a workaround for the bug.
Additionally, any further discussion regarding the bug should occur in
the other report. Feel free to continue to report any other bugs you may
find.

This bug is caused by upgrading your kernel to a version that the old
Nvidia driver in Ubuntu 10.04 does not support. To avoid this bug you
can either switch back to the kernel (2.6.32) that Ubuntu 10.04 shipped
with, or upgrade to a newer Ubuntu version.
