[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 318325] Re: [X1100] flickering after resume from ram

2011-11-03 Thread Chris
NB: With Debian Squeeze, I was able to cure this flicker on my Aspire
5100 by doing the following (as root):

pm-suspend --quirk-s3-bios --quirk-s3-mode --quirk-vbe-post --quirk-
vbemode-restore --quirk-vbestate-restore --quirk-test --store-quirks-
as-lkw

The parameters up to --quirk-test cause the machine to suspend. When I
tap a keyboard key it comes back to the deskop without the flickering.

The --store-quirks-as-lkw parameter seems to cause the previous
parameters to be written to a database where they are found and used
again on the next suspend attempt. So now my machine suspends and
resumes normally (the above commandline was needed only once).

Note that you can use the pm-suspend command to experiment with quirks.
The --quirk-test parameter was needed to make sure the pm scripts didn't
ignore the other parameters during testing.

For testing quirks, I found it useful to edit the power-management
settings to make the machine hibernate when I pushed the power button.
That made it possible to recover when the screen flickered too badly to
use the normal shutdown dialog. When the machine resumed from
hibernation, the flicker was gone and Iwas ready to test another
combination of suspend quirks.

Note that I have done a couple of other thngs which I don't think matter
(they didn't cure the problem by themselves). These are adding the
nomodeset parameter to the linux commandline, and adding some of the
same quirks to the file /usr/share/hal/fdi/information/10freedesktop/20
-video-quirk-pm-acer.fdi.

The current Debian Squeeze appears to be pretty similar to Ubuntu Lucid.
It's running Linux 2.6.32-5-686 (but with an October 2011 compile date).
I'm not sure how the two systems differ in their power management, but I
bet they're pretty close. I do not know if the tweaks I describe here
would work for Natty or Onieric.

I hope this helps somebody.

2011-11-03 Thread scido
Please resolve this bug as soon as you can. I've got the same issue:
after log in in LightDM, I get only the unity wallpaper and mouse
cursor. Now I use nvidia-173, but it's very buggy (problem with dual
monitors configuration, some freeze...). At least provide a nvidia-260
driver package, so we can upgrade it. I tried to installa previous
driver versions (from PPA, from Nvidia site), luckless.

Thank You

2011-11-03 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
You have been subscribed to a public bug:

In Ubuntu 11.10 Oneiric Ocelot, the Portuguese keyboard layout is partial
incorrect as some specific keys of this keyboard are switched. Is there any way
I can fix this? Can I add different or legacy keyboard layouts is there any way
to edit this keyboard layout?
After some updates, now when I choose to use Portuguese (Nativo) layout in
Keyboard Layout from System Settings I have the following error:

Error activating XKB configuration.
There can be various reasons for that.

If you report this situation as a bug, include the results of
 • xprop -root | grep XKB

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 885716] [NEW] External display not detected on Macbook Pro

2011-11-03 Thread Wolf Rogner
Public bug reported:

On my MBP 6.2 the external display is not detected properly (It works fine with
MacOSX, so no hardware issues).
Sometimes the display is found, sometimes not. After a reboot it is found more
frequently than after wake from suspend.

If detected, the display gets extended (not a copy of the screen like on other
OS's). This raises issues with mouse.
Also the avant bar gets screewed up regularly (because of screen metrics).

My internal display is 1650x1080, the external is 1024x768 (which may
cause the avant problems).

My expectation how the thing works would be: Plug in an external monitor
and see a resized copy of the desktop immediately. Configurable, the
display might be extended. However, I do not expect to go to a control
panel to detect a display and apply settings.

Also having an option offered that cannot be selected (Separate X-Window
view) is not really an option. If selected, all window decoration and
functionality is lost.

With this patch you can scroll with two finger or clickpad border.

Click and move only works if you set the scroll with the border.

2011-11-03 Thread Robert Hooker
The patch in the debdiffs here were NAKed by the intel maintainer, and
he fixed it differently in the upstream driver. I have prepared oneiric
and natty SRU packages with the fix but have to run tonight and will
follow up on it in the morning as well as get it uploaded to precise and
pushed to git.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 796864] Re: Can't use AltGr on a French MacBook

2011-11-03 Thread Vincent Tschanz
Same problem here in Oneric.
Macbook1,2
Swiss-french keyboard

The @ is on the G key. Under OSX, we print it using ALT+g.

a workaround for me is to remap the Right Command key (apple key) to act
as AltGr

for xmodmap :
clear Mod4
keycode 134 = ISO_Level3_Shift
add Mod4 = Super_L

So tu right command key still act as a Super key, and the right one as a
AltGr.

Another possible key to be remaped as AltGr is the one between le right command

This key is totally useless, it's just a second ENTER key.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 810647] Re: [10de:08a0] nvidia isn't loading

2011-11-03 Thread Marcelo
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 810221 ***
https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/810221

This issue is still valid IMHO. I was only able to fix it by doing the
following hack:

* renaming /usr/lib/xorg/modules/extensions/libglx.so to
/usr/lib/xorg/modules/extensions/libglx.so.backup
* creating a link /usr/lib/xorg/modules/extensions/libglx.so --
/usr/lib/nvidia-current/xorg/libglx.so

Apparently, Xorg is not honoring nvidia drivers. i tried several fixes
proposed in forums, such as blacklisting nouveau (I even removed it
completely), but Xorg loads the incorrect GLX module at startup, no
matter how hard I tried to point it to the nvidia driver in xorg.conf

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 877789] Re: Choppy Audio After Upgrade To 11.10

2011-11-03 Thread Jason E.
I can confirm that it also affects ATI/Radeon users as well. Playing
audio of any kind, whether from Firefox, Banshee or Totem the audio is
quite choppy. It does not appear that CPU load is a contributing factor.
What is a contributing factor is keystrokes and mouse movements. A pop
can be heard for each keystroke or mouse movement. If I hold down a key
or drag my mouse across the screen the audio chopps. It definitely
appears to be an issue within xservers or its driver sets as I installed
fglrx, AMD's proprietary graphics driver, and the problem disappeared.
Upon removal of fglrx the problem returned. Also I should add that I did
not experience this issue in Natty.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 763005] Re: Compiz's Sync to Vblank makes display stutter/slow with some drivers (like fglrx)

2011-11-03 Thread Daniel van Vugt
@quequotion, smspillaz was just being very cautious and backed out the
first version of the fix because it changed a couple of header files at
a time when ABI compatibility was required.

While I argued that the header changes did not affect ABI compatibility,
it is now irrelevant. Because we have now replaced it with a similar fix
that does not require changing any header files. And it's easier for
compiz developers (and maintainers of distros that use compiz) to trust
that ABI compatibility is retained if no headers have changed.

In summary, not a problem. All fixed.
