[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 318325] Re: [X1100] flickering after resume from ram
NB: With Debian Squeeze, I was able to cure this flicker on my Aspire 5100 by doing the following (as root): pm-suspend --quirk-s3-bios --quirk-s3-mode --quirk-vbe-post --quirk- vbemode-restore --quirk-vbestate-restore --quirk-test --store-quirks- as-lkw The parameters up to --quirk-test cause the machine to suspend. When I tap a keyboard key it comes back to the deskop without the flickering. The --store-quirks-as-lkw parameter seems to cause the previous parameters to be written to a database where they are found and used again on the next suspend attempt. So now my machine suspends and resumes normally (the above commandline was needed only once). Note that you can use the pm-suspend command to experiment with quirks. The --quirk-test parameter was needed to make sure the pm scripts didn't ignore the other parameters during testing. For testing quirks, I found it useful to edit the power-management settings to make the machine hibernate when I pushed the power button. That made it possible to recover when the screen flickered too badly to use the normal shutdown dialog. When the machine resumed from hibernation, the flicker was gone and Iwas ready to test another combination of suspend quirks. Note that I have done a couple of other thngs which I don't think matter (they didn't cure the problem by themselves). These are adding the nomodeset parameter to the linux commandline, and adding some of the same quirks to the file /usr/share/hal/fdi/information/10freedesktop/20 -video-quirk-pm-acer.fdi. The current Debian Squeeze appears to be pretty similar to Ubuntu Lucid. It's running Linux 2.6.32-5-686 (but with an October 2011 compile date). I'm not sure how the two systems differ in their power management, but I bet they're pretty close. I do not know if the tweaks I describe here would work for Natty or Onieric. I hope this helps somebody. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xserver-xorg-video-ati in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/318325 Title: [X1100] flickering after resume from ram To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/xserver-xorg-driver-ati/+bug/318325/+subscriptions ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 885716] [NEW] External display not detected on Macbook Pro
Public bug reported: On my MBP 6.2 the external display is not detected properly (It works fine with MacOSX, so no hardware issues). Sometimes the display is found, sometimes not. After a reboot it is found more frequently than after wake from suspend. If detected, the display gets extended (not a copy of the screen like on other OS's). This raises issues with mouse. Also the avant bar gets screewed up regularly (because of screen metrics). My internal display is 1650x1080, the external is 1024x768 (which may cause the avant problems). My expectation how the thing works would be: Plug in an external monitor and see a resized copy of the desktop immediately. Configurable, the display might be extended. However, I do not expect to go to a control panel to detect a display and apply settings. Also having an option offered that cannot be selected (Separate X-Window view) is not really an option. If selected, all window decoration and functionality is lost. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 877789] Re: Choppy Audio After Upgrade To 11.10
I can confirm that it also affects ATI/Radeon users as well. Playing audio of any kind, whether from Firefox, Banshee or Totem the audio is quite choppy. It does not appear that CPU load is a contributing factor. What is a contributing factor is keystrokes and mouse movements. A pop can be heard for each keystroke or mouse movement. If I hold down a key or drag my mouse across the screen the audio chopps. It definitely appears to be an issue within xservers or its driver sets as I installed fglrx, AMD's proprietary graphics driver, and the problem disappeared. Upon removal of fglrx the problem returned. Also I should add that I did not experience this issue in Natty. ** Attachment added: Contents of /var/log/Xorg.o.log https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xserver-xorg-video-nouveau/+bug/877789/+attachment/2584750/+files/xorg.log -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xserver-xorg-video-nouveau in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/877789 Title: Choppy Audio After Upgrade To 11.10 To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xserver-xorg-video-nouveau/+bug/877789/+subscriptions ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 763005] Re: Compiz's Sync to Vblank makes display stutter/slow with some drivers (like fglrx)
@quequotion, smspillaz was just being very cautious and backed out the first version of the fix because it changed a couple of header files at a time when ABI compatibility was required. While I argued that the header changes did not affect ABI compatibility, it is now irrelevant. Because we have now replaced it with a similar fix that does not require changing any header files. And it's easier for compiz developers (and maintainers of distros that use compiz) to trust that ABI compatibility is retained if no headers have changed. In summary, not a problem.
