[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 768581] Re: Unity froze when anything else went fullscreen (even screensaver) for more than 30 minutes

2011-11-06 Thread Fabio Marconi
Hello PresuntoRJ
This seems surely something related to a temporarily xorg-server freeze.
So I close this report asking you that the next time you're experiencing a
freeze to type in a terminal
ubuntu-bug xorg
that will open a new bug report with automatically attached all the diagnostic
needed files, so you've just to insert a small description of the problem
Thanks
Fabio

With the HDMI/VGA disconnected Ubuntu starts fine. After Ubuntu completely
loaded the external display can be
connected without problems. At this time it is detected properly and works
perfect. The desktop is shared fine to it.
i.e each time I turn it on I have to disconnect external display, wait until
Ubuntu login screen displayed, then connect
the external display again.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 886788] [NEW] High CPU usage in Gnome 3 using ATI card

2011-11-06 Thread szaby007
Public bug reported:

I have Acer Extensa 5630 laptop with ATI 3650 video card. I installed
Ubuntu 11.10, when i open a terminal window and run top i have 30-50% X
and compiz CPU usage when i move the window or just the mouse. X doesn't
use GPU at all. I tried the open source fglrx driver the AMD driver and
the readon driver nothing works the only thing with some resolution was
using Option MigrationHeuristic greedy in xorg.conf after that
compiz generated normal levels but X still uses 30-50% CPU whenever i
interact with the Desktop. Funny thing is when i turn off effects or
change to 2D i get 50-70% CPU load.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 755791] Re: [RS690M] No 3d acceleration in Radeon X1200 with new Gallium r300 / 3d drivers in 11.04

Hello again.

Is installing the kernel packages whose links above enough to solve the
problem? If so, unfortunately this solution doesn't work for ATI Radeon
X550. If it is not enough, would you mind telling me other things I must
do? Because I can't describe myself as an expert.

Thanks to everyone in advance for their work and possible answers.

2011-11-06 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
You have been subscribed to a public bug:

Sometimes, after an undefined amount of time using my HP G62 laptop,
system ignores clicks either from mouse or touchpad. Mouse/touchpad
movement still works, but not clicks.

There's also another problem that appears that Thunderbird keeps opening
repeatedly. I thought the Mail hotkey would be locked, but it's not
the case, since evtest doesn't show up events for this key when it
happens. I think both problems might be related.

I haven't had the chance to test yet:
- evtest: Check if the click events are generated when this happens.
- Check if the problem persists after disabling hotkeys.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 728745] Re: [nvidia, 7300, 7400] display freeze when using unity desktop

2011-11-06 Thread iltony
Sorry, backporting 260.xx is not possibile since 260.xx branch is
compiled against a different xorg ABI version than oneiric has, hence it
does not work. Using IgnoreABI crashes x. However, using 173.xx branch
(which works) is a huge regression in term of performance. Nouveau
works, but it's kind of a regression (comparing to nvidia latest branch)
too.

You have been subscribed to a public bug:

AMD/ATI HD6990 4GB, Disk SATA 2x500GB, 1x60GB OCZ SSD, Display Eyefinity 3 x
Dell 27, Mouse/Keyboard standard (wireless)

System works fine with Ubuntu 10.04 (Natty) 2D, Windows7 (full 3D
acceleration), Natty able to setup Multi-display with via AMD Catalyst
Control center, save settings and reboot with changes preserved.

Oneriric - System boots in cloned display mode, configuring displays
with AMD Catalyst Control Center (Administrator) sets displays properly,
however after reboot (or logout) defaults back to cloned configuration.
Ran configuration as super user:

sudo amdcccle

Made all required display changes, xorg.conf appears to be updated
properly, however on logout or reboot defaults back to cloned display.
Display driver will occasionally identify order of displays incorrectly,
e.g. L - R 213 (instead of 123). After configuring in this mode and
using the system for a while OS blanks out all screens and returns set
back to cloned mode with correct order 123. After running amdcccle and
configuring displays again it continues to run okay, however as usual no
settings are retained at next logout or power up.

Note: System runs stable without any problems in Win7

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 835817] Re: xrandr client truncates pixel clock freq.

2011-11-06 Thread Dave Gilbert
** Description changed:

In Ubuntu 10.04 when adding new modes using --newmode the pixel clock
is truncated, for example 119.9 will become 119. This is due to
check_strtod in xrandr.c returning an int when it should be returning in
double. This bug is already fixed upstream. Please consider adding the
following patch to either -updates or -backports, which every is more
  appropriate.

  Thank You.
+
+ [IMPACT] Unable to get the required pixel clock and hence potential for
+ difficulty in getting some video systems to operate correctly. Probably
+ fairly rare.
+
+ [Development Fix] It's working in current development versions, but
+ hasn't been explicitly tracked.
+
+ [Stable Fix] Original reporter reports that the patch at
+
http://cgit.freedesktop.org/xorg/app/xrandr/commit/?id=27f86db064a5ea60b942fd3d3ddeb462d980df9b
+ is the required fix.
+
+ [Test Case] From comment #3:It's easy to reproduce, for example:
+
+ xrandr --newmode 640x480_75.00 30.75 640 664 728 816 480 483 487 504
-hsync +vsync
+ xrandr
+
+ The output will be:
+...
+ 640x480_75.00 (0x115) 30.0MHz
+ h: width 640 start 664 end 728 total 816 skew 0 clock 36.8KHz
+ v: height 480 start 483 end 487 total 504 clock 72.9Hz
+
+ Notice how the pixel clock freq. was truncated to 30.00 and the refresh
+ rate is 72.9 instead of 75.0 like it should be.
+
+ [Regression Potential] Apparently small; although one has to worry about
+ changing something like xrandr.

 ubuntu-bug xorg
that will open a new bug report with automatically attached all the
diagnostic needed files, so you've just to insert a small description of
 the problem

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 879907] Re: Problem with NVIDIA driver

2011-11-06 Thread Hendrik Knackstedt
The recommended as well as the current proprietary driver provided by
Ubuntu do not work with my graphics card. Even though Jockey says the
driver is active and in use, it actually is not used but some kind of 2D
fallback. NVIDIA settings manager does not recognize my graphics card
and 3D functions do not work at all.

Only way to workaround this problem is to use the noveau driver but the
3D functions do not work very well.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 770082] Re: missing 10-wacom.conf

2011-11-06 Thread Favux
Hi Fabio,

I've always assumed this was a packaging bug. The newer upstream xf86
-input-wacom versions will try to write a 50-wacom.conf to
/usr/share/X11/xorg.conf.d. It's not aware of the Debian/Ubuntu custom
location /usr/lib/X11/xorg.conf.d for kernel 2.6.32's hybrid X server
1.7. Maybe an extra rule to direct the 10-wacom.conf to the correct
place was inadvertently dropped from the xserver-xorg-input-wacom
package? Or if the .conf is packaged with other .conf's in another
package it was inadvertently left out?

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 771788] Re: nVidia driver activated and apparently being used but reported as not being used by jockey-gtk

2011-11-06 Thread Alessandro Ceschini
Hi
I installed the driver via the control-center. It was apparently automatically
installed after a fresh install (version 173). Since it unity still didn't work
I decided to install the last one (version-current-updates). Both are
proprietaries. Never used any open-source driver, always proprietary ones.
Temperature is 50°~60°, but the real issue is NO 3D SINCE ALMOST A YEAR!!! Do
you get 3d effects?

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 886887] [NEW] screen saver after going into blank screen, resumes to all-white screen, no unlock dialog

2011-11-06 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
You have been subscribed to a public bug:

When the screen saver kicks in, when I attempt to unlock the screen, I
don't get an unlock dialog, just a white screen.

I have found a work-around - close the lid so the laptop goes into
suspend-to-RAM mode, then open it. Then I get an unlock screen and I
can use the machine.

Last night I installed oneiric and updated all packages.
I left the machine alone for awhile and the screen saver kicked in, blanking
the screen.
When I tapped a key, the screen turned back on but displayed an all-white
screen instead of an unlock prompt.

Nothing seemed to affect the white screen.
I tried assuming that the unlock dialog was there but not visible and typed my
password. No effect.
I tried Ctl-Alt-F1 to get a console window, no effect.
I had not yet installed openssh-server, so I couldn't try sshing into the
machine.
I ended up hard-booting the machine.

A little while later the same thing happened, this time I hadn't been doing
anything
in particular with the machine. I had just booted it up, opened a couple of
terminals
and a few firefox windows.

I tried the above again, but no effect. Then I thought of suspending
and resuming, to see if that fixed the problem. It did.

My machine is a thinkpad t520 with optimus graphics; nvidia graphics
and on-board intel graphics. I set the BIOS to always use the intel
graphics under my old install (Lucid) so it should still be set to that.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 496431] Re: Karmic starts in low graphics mode

2011-11-06 Thread Eliah Kagan
This problem was fixed on your computer, but not due to any change made
to any software in Ubuntu. Therefore, this bug should be closed as
Invalid rather than as Fix Released.

Thank you for your report, and please do not hesitate to continue
reporting bugs as you find them! However, you might want to ask
questions instead, if you are not sure something really is a bug
(https://answers.launchpad.net/ubuntu).

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 747246] Re: amdcccle crashed with SIGSEGV in QWidget::ungrabGesture()

2011-11-06 Thread beccon
I hacked a crude workaround:

nano setmonitor.sh:

#!/bin/bash

sleep 1
xrandr --output DFP1 --auto --right-of DFP2

chmod ogu+x setmonitor.sh

and put it in the Autostart of the desktop environment

Hope that's fine until the amdcccle issue is fixed.

Conrad

PS: really Compiz with the free driver - sounds to good to be true.
Having spend too much time to get my system to start reasonably well: I
have a AMD RADEON HD 6450 . Would it work with the free driver and 3D
as well? Anyone tried it yet?

Thank you.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 800140] Re: radeon: [drm:drm_mode_getfb] *ERROR* invalid framebuffer id

2011-11-06 Thread Zaris
I see this error in syslog when switching user from locked session. Screen goes
black with cursor blinking upper left corner. With ctr-alt Fn I can still get
the session. I't seems lightdm (and gdm) can not switch to locked session.
This is with open source radeon. With fglrx whole system freezes with black
screen and only way out is hardware reset.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 92599] Re: Incorrect (low/stuttering) refresh rate with NVIDIA driver

2011-11-06 Thread Chauncellor
I have smooth animations on everything compiz-related EXCEPT window
movement, file dragging, and the like. It slowly degrades after a while
of usage. This has been an issue for me since Natty and the introduction
to compiz 0.9.*. This is both on my nvidia gtx 560 and Intel i915.

I've tried all the workarounds mentioned in this bug, bug 763005, and
bug 86106. There have been absolutely no improvements. Am I even in the
right bug report? Should I report a new one? What should I name it so it
does not get merged in with the current cluster of performance bugs?
Should I upload a video demonstrating the behavior? Is my behavior
unique amongst the problems documented across the three bugs?

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 838577] Re: GNOME Shell display problems with FGLRX

2011-11-06 Thread Luca Invernizzi
I confirm that
apt-get install fonts-cantarell
mitigates the problem.
The texts, popups and tooltips are now fine, although a couple of icons are
still funny (accessibility and bluetooth -- the mouse-over effect fixes them
though).

Using fglrx driver on ubuntu 11.10, Radeon HD 3600.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 881526] Re: System freezes, kernel crashes, [fglrx] ASIC hang happened

2011-11-06 Thread Matt Fischer
I get the same issue in 11.10. When I come back, I get a blank screen
which I cannot wake-up and my laptop fan is running full speed. I have
the hard power it to get it back up. Here is my stack, which looks
similar, perhaps exactly the same:

Re: [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 771788] Re: nVidia driver activated and apparently being used but reported as not being used by jockey-gtk

2011-11-06 Thread Linuxexperte
hi Allessandro,

yep, I have 3D-effect running on my machine. But what is not working
properly for me is the Gnome3-desktop. Nautilus crashes when
klicking the icon in the dock. But what is strange to me is, that I can
open nautlus through Atl+F2 and gksu nautilus. That means,
I can only open Nautilus as root. But what I want to know: why is that??

And hwat also is strange to me: when I want to logg into the normal
Gnome2-desktop, I get the error-message: failed to load Gnome-
Classic session. I also don't know, why that is. I am still looking for
figuring that out.

But for comeing back to the proprietary driver: yep, for me this driver
works fine and also film-videos have cool 3D-effects now.
you will find out if this works, if you follow the instructions shown in
the links, I posted in my previous comments and also I do
not experience any emergency-shutdown anymore, since I use nvidia-current.
Also the overheating-problems are gone since I use this
driver since a few weeks now.

I am really happy with this new nvidia-driver. And as I said: the
proprietary ones are the resue for the nvidia-graphic-cards because
the opensource one (nouveau-driver) would have killed my GPU and my
graphiccard. If I had continued useing the opensource-one, my GPU
would have died within two or three weeks.

Greetings
Linuxexperte

Also gaming is no problem anymore.

 Hi
I installed the driver via the control-center. It was apparently
automatically installed after a fresh install (version 173). Since it
unity still didn't work I decided to install the last one
(version-current-updates). Both are proprietaries. Never used any
 open-source driver, always proprietary ones.
Temperature is 50°~60°, but the real issue is NO 3D SINCE ALMOST A
YEAR!!! Do you get 3d effects?

2011-11-06 Thread Alessandro Ceschini
Hi
I followed all the instructions you provided me with, even before you came out
with that link (I already knew about it), and there's still no way to get 3d
effects working on my system.
It seems I'm the only one here still experiencing problems. Damn.
Greetings.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 886974] [NEW] Control shift not working after setxkbmap ctrl:nocaps

2011-11-06 Thread Allen Riddell
Public bug reported:

Control (capslock)-shift+tab does not register after turning capslock
into a control key via setxkbmap -option ctrl:nocaps. This only
happens under an xubuntu oneiric install (it doesn't occur on another
computer under a xubuntu session where I have unity also installed -- so
it may be a specific package causing the problem).

This bug occurs reliably; I can create an empty new account and the bug
persists.

This is a show stopper given that the bug prevents doing control-shift-
tab in Firefox, etc.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 851526] Re: 3D no longer works after latest updates

2011-11-06 Thread WarriorIng64
Hi Scott,

I have not been running Unity 3D for the past week or so (switched over
to GNOME Shell on my desktop), but when I last used it everything seemed
fine performance-wise except the lenses being just slightly slow and the
Alt+Tab window switcher performing so slowly as to be almost painful to
use. I get none of these performance problems with the 11.10 install on
my laptop, which instead suffers from window flickering when switching
between windows on the same workspace (see bug 881003).

At any rate, I imagine these would all be separate bugs on their own and
don't belong here. I should also mention that I'm using the Nouveau
driver...what are you using?

I am using nouveau also. I am kind of surprised that you are getting OK

I'm getting occasional X lockups, too. Weird thing is that things worked
fine in Natty w/ Unity 3D on my setup (w/ nouveau).

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 92599] Re: Incorrect (low/stuttering) refresh rate with NVIDIA driver

2011-11-06 Thread Daniel van Vugt
@Chauncellor...

If disabling DynamicTwinView didn't work for your nvidia system, try setting
this in CCSM:
  Detect Refresh Rate = OFF
Refresh Rate = the real refresh rate of your monitor, maybe even higher.
If that still doesn't work then you are not experiencing bug 92599. But read
on...

In CCSM again, go to the Workarounds section and enable:
Force full screen redraws (buffer swap) on repaint.
If that solves your problems then you're probably experiencing tearing, not
stuttering or a low frame rate, so you actually have bug 880707.

Finally, please confirm you are experiencing stuttering, and _not_
tearing. If you're unsure about the difference please log a new bug with
a video. Link to the new bug from one of the existing bugs like this one
so myself and other people see it. Don't worry too much about the title
of the bug. A nice clear video should allow us to accurately classify
the bug and not accidentally merge it with unrelated bugs.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 878235] Re: System unusable after update

2011-11-06 Thread Ken Sharp
Well I had an updated version of fglrx installed (not from the repos)
which worked fine before this update.

I tried to install from the repos but there were all kinds of errors, it
also would not reinstall. I have finally managed to force uninstall the
latest driver and reinstall the driver from the repos. I am now back in
my system, working correctly.

I will avoid the latest fglrx until I can be certain that something in
Ubuntu won't break it during the next update.

It therefore appears that something in xorg-server is incompatible with
fglrx 8.881, in this version of Ubuntu at least.
