[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 886229] Re: Segmentation fault causes random log off

2011-11-16 Thread Schizophrenic Orb
This affects me too, same segmentation fault. If it helps, I've noticed
it happens much more often when running on battery power, and it seems
to happen more often when actively doing things, like loading several
webpages or advancing songs in banshee. I've still had it happen to me
when on AC power and when not doing those things, it's just much more
common.

Also there are some threads floating around online with others with this
issue, and it seems to only affect 64 bit users.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 416073] Re: [i965] low intel graphics performance - again

2011-11-16 Thread Roman
To be honest I feel there is a moderate but well-measurable increase of the
graphical performance in the new Ubuntu Oneiric.
Now I have Extreme Tux Racer performance in the range 20-25 FPS (~25% comparing
to the previous 15-20 FPS that I mentioned above), all on the same laptop with
the same intel video card. Similar increase can be noted in the most other 3d
applications that I have. In particular, KWin performance is better than it was
even in Karmic. This I can note clearly, because in the previous Ubuntu KWin
was so slow that I turned it off permanently. Now I do not turn it off even for
fullscreen graphical apps, and the performance is good (notice I do not set the
option of auto-suspending KWin for fullscreen apps, i.e. KWin continues to work
as usually in such a case).

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 891107] [NEW] fglrx driver does not install correctly/work with 6470M HD Radeon

2011-11-16 Thread Paul Manners
Public bug reported:

I tried to enable the propriety driver for my 6470 HD Radeon card. I
used the Additional Drivers in the system settings page, running
ubuntu 11.10. Two options come up:

ATI/AMD proprietry FGLRX graphics driver
and
ATI/AMD proprietry FGLRX graphics driver (post release updates).

I install the first one, reboot, and check the Additional Drivers
again. The first driver is indicated that it is active, however when I
run fglrxinfo at the command line I get:

X Error of failed request: BadRequest (invalid request code or no such
operation)
Major opcode of failed request: 155 (GLX)
Minor opcode of failed request: 19 (X_GLXQueryServerString)
Serial number of failed request: 12
Current serial number in output stream: 12

So I don't think it is installed. I then try to install the second
driver with the post release update. This one never seems to install.
And it never comes up as being activated, despite numerous attempts.

So trying I try to do the install from the command line. Running an
apt-get reinstall fglrx fglrx-amdcccle fglrx-dev. This appears to
install but I get the same result when I run fglrxinfo.

I am tempted to do the installation outlined :
https://help.ubuntu.com/community/BinaryDriverHowto/ATI but surely this
should all work without having all this pain.

Any ideas?

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 865504] [NEW] keyboard layout changes automatically

2011-11-16 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
You have been subscribed to a public bug:

Hello all,

I am using ubuntu 11.04, kernel 2.6.38-11, gnome 2.32.1 on a DELL Vostro
1015 with a mexican physical keyboard layout.

the problem is that i have configured in Keyboard Preferences to have
only ONE layout (Spain). I have applied the configuration system-wide
and validated the change with my password. However, on reboot i find
that i have TWO layouts configured (Latin American and Spain). what
is worse, in spite of having the Spain layout as primary, different
windows choose to use the secondary layout arbitrarily.

i have repeatedly reconfigured the layouts and still get the same
nagging result of a linux that chooses the layout for me.

Cheers,

Pablo

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 838577] Re: GNOME Shell display problems with FGLRX

2011-11-16 Thread Romano Giannetti
The (this morning) update of fglrx-updates co (Now at version
2:8.881-0ubuntu6.1) seems to have fixed the worst of it.
Nevertheless, there is still some (minor, but not nice) problem. See the
attached shot --- easier than explain.

(5 minutes...)

well, I stand back, it seems that it's impossible to get a shot of the
screen. More of that. The problem I was noticing above is that for
example, in a gnome terminal, if you go the terminal-profile menu, and
select the profiles... submenu, when you hover on the submenu it get
mangled. The same happens to the new scrollbar sometime.

For the other thing: it seems that it's impossible to get a screenshot.
When I try it, I get only an old wallpaper (I am rotating them) and no
windows. Should be fglrx- related, because on my laptop, intel graphic
card, same O.S., it works ok.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 838577] Re: GNOME Shell display problems with FGLRX

2011-11-16 Thread Daniel Mohr
Also tested the new version of fglrx-updates 2:8.902-0ubuntu0.1. Still
the same problems: Corrupted dialogs, tooltips and dropdowns. Very bad
performance (scrolling, animations). With the open driver everything's
much smoother (but far from perfect).

I confirm what Romano said: Also can't take screenshots. Because of
this, I attached a photo of my screen (corrupted drop down in firefox).

System: Ubuntu Oneiric 64bit with Radeon HD 4290.

I can confirm that it still happens in Oneiric. It just happened to me

 Hey legluondunet,

You filed this bug report against natty, but I see it's still open and
doesn't appear to have much activity recently.  So, now that oneiric
is released and stable, this may be a good point for you to upgrade
and re-test if this issue is still present there.

If it's solved in the new release and you think it's worth backporting
the fix, please indicate that.  Or if having the fix in the new release
is good enough, feel free to close out the bug (or let us know and we'll
 close it.)

If it's not solved, leave the bug report open.  I can't promise we'll
get to it (we get way more bugs filed than we can usually get to), but
your testing and feedback can help out if and when we do.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 891295] [NEW] Key repeat is disabled intermittently

2011-11-16 Thread RawwrBag
Public bug reported:

I have VMWare 8 and dual monitors running separate X servers. Every hour
or so while writing code in Emacs, my keyboard key repeat will stop
functioning. I can re-enable it by opening the keyboard configuration
utility and unchecking/checking the key repeat box. I do not know
exactly what sequence of events causes it to occur.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 838577] Re: GNOME Shell display problems with FGLRX

2011-11-16 Thread d3ngar
Yes, the problem persists and we don't have anyone assigned to this bug.

Why won't Canonical address this problem? FGLRX is not that uncommon.
Very few people find Unity a 'suitable' replacement and it's sad to see
that we are essentially forced to migrate to a different distribution.

2011-11-16 Thread Steffen Sindzinski
I do not have the blank screen after booting any more. So there is a
progress. Still gnome shell is unusable because of poor performance and
flickering. Rest is ok. Why should Canonical care about a competing
desktop? I tried this Fedora 16 Live CD this week and I cannot even boot
it - blank screen.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 844193] Re: Screen won't turn back on after being turned off due to inactivity (System Settings - Screen)

2011-11-16 Thread Jacob Peddicord
I still notice the issue here, on a fully-updated HP Mini 110. Letting
the screen turn off by itself seems to be what triggers it; it will turn
back on from standby just fine. It also seems to go out if you plug in
an external display and try to switch screens.

Additionally, I think that it may just be the backlight: if you hold a
light up to the screen, you can see a faint image of your desktop. My
current solution is to put the netbook in standby and bring it back
again.

Why won't Canonical address this  problem? FGLRX is not that uncommon.
Very few people find Unity a 'suitable' replacement and it's sad to see
that we are essentially forced to migrate to a different distribution.

Hold on, did you find a distro where the FGLRX driver doesn't have
this issue? Please reply with the distro, its version, and the version
of fglrx. It would be very helpful, because as far as I am aware this
problem is in ATI's hands. If someone has worked around it (even
inadvertently) it would be really helpful.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 838577] Re: GNOME Shell display problems with FGLRX

2011-11-16 Thread Romano Giannetti
Another data point: the lock-screen simply makes the screen a mess
(complete lack of sync, it seems, like the not-so-good-old-times when
you got ModeLine frequency wrong in x11.conf files).

Uf. Need to go back to Unity to be able to work, I hope it will be fixed
soon.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 365300] Re: Randomly I get double clicks when I do a single click.

2011-11-16 Thread rozwell
Mouse: a4tech X-710F, double clicks started few days after fresh install of
kubuntu 11.10
I couldn't find the solution, so I checked the mouse on 2 previous kubuntu
releases where it used to work just fine - the bug was there too.

Finally I assumed this can be a hardware problem so I've desoldered my LMB and
triple click button, switched them and soldered back.
This solved problem for me - triple click seems to be working fine, I don't get
hexa clicks since (I guess) it takes mouse to send the signal a little longer
than this (evil) double click used button generates.
