[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 798868] Re: unity video tearing when moving windows in oneiric with nvidia-current

2011-12-04 Thread Daniel van Vugt
Omer, I think this should still affect Unity because of the bug
description, and because all evidence so far suggests the root cause of
the tearing regression was the UnityFBO code (details in bug 861061).

Though, if the proposed fixes solve this bug for Fabien then this is
probably a duplicate of bug 880707.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 888872] Re: Unity 3D desktop crashes in Oneiric using ATI Mobility Radeon X1600

2011-12-04 Thread Phil. V
@Chascon

Huh, it's possible that's related, but to be honest I just don't know
enough about the affected systems to determine if those two issues are
related, I'm just a bug triager. Feel free to open another report
regarding the problem with installing DRI drivers and mention this bug,
and hopefully someone more informed can make the determination as to
whether these two problems are related. Sorry I couldn't be of more
help.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 877754] Re: xorg configures my video card as vesa and should be vga

2011-12-04 Thread Dave Stroud
I have installed linux mint 12. Gnome 3 still does the same thing.
However in mate it installs it correctly. It looks like gnome 3 is using
the wrong xorg trident driver. I would expect it to be the same in both.
This is a bug in the xorg trident driver and should be reopened. Thanks

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 891107] Re: fglrx driver does not install correctly/work with 6470M HD Radeon

2011-12-04 Thread Paul Manners
apport information

** Tags added: apport-collected oneiric running-unity ubuntu

** Description changed:

I tried to enable the propriety driver for my 6470 HD Radeon card. I
used the Additional Drivers in the system settings page, running
ubuntu 11.10. Two options come up:

  ATI/AMD proprietry FGLRX graphics driver
  and
ATI/AMD proprietry FGLRX graphics driver (post release updates).

I install the first one, reboot, and check the Additional Drivers
again. The first driver is indicated that it is active, however when I
run fglrxinfo at the command line I get:

X Error of failed request: BadRequest (invalid request code or no such
operation)
Major opcode of failed request: 155 (GLX)
Minor opcode of failed request: 19 (X_GLXQueryServerString)
Serial number of failed request: 12
Current serial number in output stream: 12

So I don't think it is installed. I then try to install the second
driver with the post release update. This one never seems to install.
And it never comes up as being activated, despite numerous attempts.

So trying I try to do the install from the command line. Running an
apt-get reinstall fglrx fglrx-amdcccle fglrx-dev. This appears to
install but I get the same result when I run fglrxinfo.

I am tempted to do the installation outlined :
  https://help.ubuntu.com/community/BinaryDriverHowto/ATI but surely this
should all work without having all this pain.

  Any ideas?

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 899890] [NEW] Xorg crash automatic logout

2011-12-04 Thread Enternix
Public bug reported:

Maybe this is a duplicate of Bug #887794:
Since I removed Ubuntu 11.04 and installed 11.10 it is a disaster: nearly
everyday my system crashes and I am logged out automatically and all my unsaved
documents are lost. So I made a new installation but the problem remains. So I
tried out Gnome 3 and LXDE instead of Unity. In Gnome 3 the logouts remained
but in LXDE the system seems to be stable. I will try XFCE as well, but I would
rather use Unity!

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 887082] Re: Logitech G300 Mouse left mouse click broken

2011-12-04 Thread James Jenner
I have discovered over time that the workaround I have posted is not
that effective, as the id can change depending on what usb devices are
connected at (i presume) boot time.

As such I have found the following command to be far more effective,
well it works on my system anyway.

xinput set-prop keyboard:Logitech Gaming Mouse G300 121 0

I'm not certain if the property id can change, but I've noticed that for
me it has always been 121. It's just the device I that has changed.
using the name works around this issue. Effectively, the above command
as a startup is a workable workaround.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 843681] Re: tablet pad buttons stuck

2011-12-04 Thread Tch3tch
Same thing on debian sid :

When I press a pad button :

- I can't click anymore (mouse or stylus)
- the mouse pointer keeps the aspect it had when pressing the button all over
the screen (e.g. : if I'm using mypoint, the mouse pointer still looks like a
cirle even if I move outside the software)
- the setting of this button doesn't matter (ctrl/shift/...,letters/numbers ,
mouse buttons...)

The only way to undo it is to touch the mousewheel circle of the wacom

Stylus buttons just work fine : I can set them and press them without
any problem.

I just acquired a Dell Precision M6400. The default Mouse and Touchpad
settings don't give me the possibility to deactivate the touchapd
alltogether, so I installed your patch from comment #492. But it does
not seem to install correctly: no gpointing-device-settings binary is
available...

Here are the hardware details:

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 852355] Re: Powerxpress not working

2011-12-04 Thread Matej Moško
I confirm, this bug affects me. I tried to copy /usr/lib/fglrx into
usr/lib64 but after aticonfig --intial -f I got the error about wrong
permissions for this new folder. Something like there has to be no write
permissions for group and others. I tried to disable such access, but it
did not help. Still getting the same error about permissions.

Please help us.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 763688] Re: [915GM] S-video output doesn't work in Natty (i386)

2011-12-04 Thread L Schmiedl
I can confirm the problem on Xubuntu 11.10 to. I don't get any signal on the TV
screen with kernel 3.0.0-12
and kernel 3.0.0-13. The s-video port is detected and listed on xrandr. The
refresh rate is given with 30hz, but
is seems to bee wrong for a PAL-TV.

If I use an installed lucid kernel 2.6.32-36 so I can switch on the s-video
port and I get the expected picture
on my TV screen. But is not possible to switch the s-video port off again.

On Ubuntu 10.04 and Debian Squeeze the s-video port is able to work as
expected. I can switch it on/off and
I can change the resolution and TV norm (PAL - NTSC) as well.

2011-12-04 Thread Roelof
Installing the latest nvidia driver (290.) from the nvidia site via the
script did solve this issue (more or less, it is not visible in synaptic
and not in the propritary hardware tool). I can use my 2nd monitor with
video acceleration for playing media full-screen again on my little
ion/atom box .

Re: [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 707202] Re: X Freezes when un-blanking screen

2011-12-04 Thread hazelsct
Very sorry about the delay in getting back to you..

On Mon, 2011-11-28 at 23:02 +, Bryce Harrington wrote:
Are you still having this issue?

Haven't seen it in many months (maybe a year?) at this point. I don't
know whether it was resolved in a more recent X update. This may be
fixed.

 Fwiw, the change in 2:1.7.6-2ubuntu7.5 simply fixes a null deref issue;
not something likely to cause an X freeze. However, you could try
downgrading xserver to an earlier version just to be absolutely certain.

Issues related to unblanking screen more generally are due to faults in
the power management settings. So I would suspect gnome-power-manager
or the kernel to be more likely culprits.

 ** Changed in: xorg-server (Ubuntu)
Status: New = Incomplete

To answer your earlier question, yes, using compiz, and still running
10.04, will probably upgrade to 11.10 soon.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 899956] [NEW] laptop (panasonic toughbook cf-19) screen won't come on after closing lid

2011-12-04 Thread Dan Egnor
Public bug reported:

Oneiric originally worked fine, but after a recent update (sadly not
sure exactly what package versions, but one or two weeks ago) this
started happening:

The system boots fine and everything works, but once I close and re-open
the laptop lid, the screen is black (no backlight) and won't wake back
up (no matter how many times I close and re-open the lid). This is on
AC power. In my power management settings, I have When the lid is
closed set to Do nothing (i.e. just blank the screen) for both AC
power and battery.

The system is still running (I think) but the display stays black. The
only way (that I have found) to recover is to reboot.

If I switch to a text console before closing the lid, it blanks and
unblanks fine. Trying to switch to text console _after_ the screen has
gone into permablack has no effect.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 779453] Re: Display port color problem

2011-12-04 Thread Pimmetje
I have a other monitor now. A newer one. Guess what this one works great
:). My guess is that the HDMI standard on the monitor is not compatible
with the way implemented in Ubuntu. If there is anyone interested i
still have the old monitor working under windows and i am willing to
help / test fixing this.

For me its not that interesting for now as i have a working monitor now
:). Thanks again for reading and perhaps it helps someone else.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 899813] Re: Mouse Freezes upon first log in when interacting with keyboard

2011-12-04 Thread Bilal Akhtar
Thank you for reporting this issue and bringing it to our attention. However,
this bug is not a valid paper cut, as a paper cut should be a small usability
issue, in the default or featured applications, that affects many users and is
quick and easy to fix.
Therefore this bug cannot be addressed as part of the One Hundred Paper Cuts
project.

Seems like a tough bug to fix, and hence this is not a paper cut.
For further info about the paper cut criteria, please read
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/PaperCut.

Don't worry though, This bug has been marked as Invalid ONLY in the
One Hundred Paper Cuts project.

** Also affects: xorg (Ubuntu)
   Importance: Undecided

2011-12-04 Thread Daniel van Vugt
The fix is upstream so next time didrocks pulls a new compiz snapshot
into lp:ubuntu/compiz you will get the fix in precise. I assume they
will be pulling newer snapshots of compiz into precise before it's
released... :)

I already have too many branches to manage without trying to support
precise myself at this early stage.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 900111] [NEW] X server on Matrox g550 is all black (no output)

2011-12-04 Thread linas
Public bug reported:

No video output (all black screen) on matrox g550. Evidence below, but
here's a wild guess: this card has a dual-dvii output, and I'm guessing
that the mga driver is configured to send the video signal to a non-
existent vga port (i.e. older models of g550 had 1 vga, 1 dvi, but this
one has 2 dvi). But that's just a wild guess. Anyway ... some details:

-- brand new card, purchased a week ago. Box says model G55-MDDE32F pci-express
x1 32MB DDR dual output standard height half-width
-- lspci identifies it as Matrox Graphics, Inc. MGA G550 AGP (rev 01) Note
that this means its slightly mis-identified: its NOT AGP, its a PCI-E 1x card!
-- It does output vga resolution during boot; displays standard text 24 rows x
80 columns just fine (and displays BIOS menus just fine, etc).
-- monitor and cable work fine when attached to different graphics card, even
when driven at high-res (1920x1080).
-- tested both connectors; not output on either.
-- The xorg.0.log file shows no errors; it does detect monitor just fine, and
autoconfigure just fine.
-- Forcing xorg.conf to use a lower resolution does not solve problem
-- X-server appears to be running fine, based on sound feedback. I was able to
(blindly) log in, start web browser, go to youtube, and start a video playing.
The sound-track came out the audio; screen was black. In other words, X11
itself seems to be running just fine, but the output is completely blanked.
-- Above reports were for Ubuntu karmic; tried upgrading to Oneiric, no
improvement.

Will attach xorg.conf and xorg.0.log shortly

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 900111] Re: X server on Matrox g550 is all black (no output)

2011-12-04 Thread linas
Log file from a failed session. Several notes about this file:

-- you will see some vague evidence for another graphics adapter in the
log; its an nvidia at pci 4:0:0 Please note the mga problem occurs even
when the nvidia card is removed from the system ... I checked!

-- Note that the xorg.conf file uses a stanza indicating that VideoRam
32768 This is required; without this, I get the following oddball
behaviour: early device probe prints out that the card has only 2 MB
video ram; then just a little while later, the video bios is read, and
reports that the card has 32 MB ram. Later still, during video mode
selection, it rejects all modes requiring anything more than 2MB (i.e.
it rejects almost all modes) i.e. it behaves as if it forgot that the
32 MB was reported.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 900111] Re: X server on Matrox g550 is all black (no output)

2011-12-04 Thread linas
BTW, If I use a DVI-to-VGA adapter, and run a vga cable to the monitor,
then one output port shows fine pink black vertical bars; the other
port shows all black (and the monitor thinks the all-black screen does
have valid video out, at 1600x1200) (the pink-bars vga out is also
1600x1200). By contrast, running a DVI cable simply results in the
monitor complaining: no signal. Yes, I have tried restarting Xserver
before after the cable switches.

BTW, this is on an amd64 system (i.e. 64-bit binaries) perhaps there's
some 32-64-bit bug?

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 881004] Re: windows moving is too slow on fglrx

2011-12-04 Thread pazuzuthewise
Same issue on Oneiric x86 with kernel 3.0.0-13-generic-pae and fglrx version
2:8.881-0ubuntu4.1.
I confirm that the settings made by @adrenochrome do alleviate somewhat the
problem, although not 100%. I made the respective settings in only one login
session, and without following any special order.
