[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 906987] [NEW] syndaemon polls 5 times a second even though it is started with the -R XRecord extension option
Public bug reported: syndaemon is polling at 5Hz even on an idle system. It is waking up the CPU and wasting power. However, it is running with -R option that should enable it to use XRecord which avoids polling, so I believe gnome-settings-daemon is doing the right thing. This used to work, I believe it was fixed for natty (see bug #633125), so it is a regressed on Oneric and it is also broken in Precise (I checked against today's daily build). [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 772207] Re: version 173.14.30 driver is buggy for NVidia GeForce FX series
@alezflute i just tried it, didn't work! All manual install versions i've tried jammed at or before starting lightdm. As a matter of procedure (maybe someone can pitch in some tips) i did the following: 1. killed the current lightdm from virtual console 2. ran installer 3. got an initial error stating precleanup distribution provided scripts failed do you want to continue driver install anyway 4. i went ahead and had an error-less install 5. at the end it complained not finding libGL.so.1 / libGLcore.so.1 and libGL.tls.so.1 and proceeded to create them as symlinks to it's own versions libGL.so.173.14.31 (i presumed it was looking for them in order to remove/replace them with the symlinks it made) 6. rebooted got stuck 7. entered virtual console and erased /etc/X11/xorg.conf 8. rebooted This seamed to work each time i tried a new driver version. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to nvidia-graphics-drivers-173 in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/772207 Title: version 173.14.30 driver is buggy for NVidia GeForce FX series To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/unity/+bug/772207/+subscriptions ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 803620] Re: different image in two monitors causes display coruption
Thanks for your help. I tried it with Ubuntu 11.10 live CD. The Problem was that Unity 3D would need too much resolution. My graphic card does not support 3D with this resolution. Something like it supports only 2048 * 2048. Icould not start unity 2D so I tried Kubuntu. Kubuntu worked fine with two screens and different images on each of them. But does this say that the Bug is fixed. If if this test was not enough, would there be a chance to run Unity in 2D mode wit a live CD? I don't want to upgrade from 10.10 as it is the last version I could get stabel with this graphic adapter. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xserver-xorg-video-ati in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/803620 Title: different image in two monitors causes display coruption To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xserver-xorg-video-ati/+bug/803620/+subscriptions ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp
[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 814895] Re: [snb-m-gt2] Ubuntu won't load with external monitor connected on ASUS N73SV laptop. Dual monitor bug. *ERROR* Couldn't find PLL settings for mode!
So, looks like it's trying to boot up on crtc #3, but presumably only 1 and 2 are attached. That happens well before X.org loads, so it looks to be a bug in kernel drm. Please turn on kernel graphics debugging - run 'sudo xdiagnose', it's the first checkbox. Check it, click apply, reboot, and reproduce the problem, then collect 'sudo dmesg dmesg.txt' and attach that here. That will help identify why the kernel is getting so confused by CRTC #3. There's been a significant amount of kernel work upstream to resolve problems like this in sandy bridge and ivy bridge, and presumably if you boot the 3.2 kernel the issue would be resolved. If you'd like to test this theory but you don't want to install Ubuntu Precise, it should be sufficient to boot a Live USB session, configure the monitors, and see if it is working properly now.You can get the current Live USB desktop image at http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/daily-live/current/ and create a USB boot drive using usb-creator. ** Changed in: xserver-xorg-video-intel (Ubuntu) Status: Confirmed = Incomplete ** Summary changed: - [snb-m-gt2] Ubuntu won't load with external monitor connected on ASUS N73SV laptop. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 877438] Re: Unity/compiz has sluggish performance on dual-head with nvidia driver
Just to chip in, this doesn't appear to be confined to the 8xxx series nvidia cards. I've seen this on G96 (Quadro FX 580), GT216 (Geforce GT 220) and on GF108 (GeForce GT 430). Not high-end cards by any stretch of the imagination, but all should be more than up to the task. I've mainly encountered this on twinview setups with a pair of 1920x1200 screens. I can't recall if I've ever seen this on a single-monitor system as we don't have too many of those here. 290.10 doesn't help in any way on the one system I've tried it on. This affects 11.04, as well as Ubuntu derivatives (Mint 11 and 12 spring to mind). I'm not sure about 10.04. It isn't related to Unity or Gnome 3. I've seen this on both 11.04 and Mint 11 with Gnome 2, and Mint 12 with MATE. This seems 100% reproducible with MATE under Mint 12. Running 'compiz --replace' causes the problem every time. While that's not Ubuntu's problem, that might be a good place to start looking for clues. For now, the workaround is definitely to avoid running compiz. This means losing a bunch of window management functionality and the general feeling of smoothness that compiz usually provides, but that's better than crippling performance. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to nvidia-graphics-drivers in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/877438 Title: Unity/compiz has sluggish performance on dual-head with nvidia driver To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/compiz/+bug/877438/+subscriptions ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 749664] Re: Applications appear off-screen in multi-monitor setups where the resolution of the secondary display is greater than that of the primary display
This looks to be another dead space bug which was fixed with the mouse barrier work in X.org. Indeed, after arranging monitors to replicate the reporter's configuration, I am not able to reproduce the issue on Precise. I'm marking this as fix released. I do not think barriers is a candidate for sru, so not nominating backport tasks. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 776978] Re: everything on screen is garbled apart from the top bar (2 monitors, different resolutions, unity, natty)
@Sabin, ok thanks. I agree it's a band aid. We've got a tracking bug report for the proper fix, bug #830949: [Intel N10 Graphics] Need Compiz' Copy to Texture plugin so can display on multi-head layouts bigger than the max GL texture size. I'll go ahead and close this one out as fixed, since the underlying issue is just a dupe of that one. @Marc, it's starting to sound like your issue may be a distinct bug. Please open a new bug report if you don't mind. 'ubuntu-bug xorg'. It would be really helpful if you could do it by reproducing on Precise first and filing the bug from there. If you don't want to install Ubuntu Precise, it should be sufficient to boot a Live USB session, configure the monitors, and see if it is working properly now.You can get the current Live USB desktop image at http://cdimage.ubuntu.com /daily-live/current/ and create a USB boot drive using usb-creator. ** Changed in: xorg-server (Ubuntu) Status: Triaged = Fix Released -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xorg-server in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/776978 Title: everything on screen is garbled apart from the top bar (2 monitors, different resolutions, unity, natty) To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xorg-server/+bug/776978/+subscriptions ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 899159 *** https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/899159 Public bug reported: Occurs constantly with gnome-shell (opening of Activities menu) or any other 3D application (Wine, Steam games, etc). I experience similar symptoms with virtually any and all programs/games which use 3D graphics. The screen will go blank for several seconds, sometimes it will 'fix' itself, other times it will cause the game to crash, gnome-shell to crash, compiz seems to crash as well. Sometimes it will occur within 1 minute, other times it can go ok for around and hour. Logout doesn't fix, a full reboot is required. Sometimes the full system locks, and the power button/reset switch are ineffective; I have to pull power from the power supply to reset. From http://www.ubuntugeek.com/dual-monitors-with-nvidia.html someone left this suggestion: Hi guys, I figured this out with natty 11.04, and wanted to post what i did. From the arch linux wiki, i used nvidia-xconfig --twinview to enable twinview, then nvidia-settings --load-config-only to make sure the settings pages loaded. Then in unity i went into the nvidia settings program and tweaked. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 577640] Re: nVidia TwinView resolution not supported by X
The error message comes from this patch to gnome-desktop: ./debian/patches/100_load_desired_settings.patch:+ X server does not support size requested); So, gnome is attempting to load your existing ~/.config/monitors.xml however in some situations gnome will attempt to use Xrandr 1.2 functionality (such as to arrange monitors side-by-side), which nvidia does not support (nvidia only has xrandr 1.0 support currently). Of course, the xorg.conf setting up NVIDIA has already established the desired layout so gnome's action here is entirely superfluous (and should not be attempted). If I'm correct, then one simple workaround would be to delete your ~/.config/monitors.xml. With Twinview set in your xorg.conf you don't need a monitors.xml. At some point NVIDIA will likely support xrandr 1.4, which is one possible way this will be resolved. I don't have a public ETA on that, but if that happens in the next few months and gets included in Precise we might consider that a solution (although unless Twinview is removed from nvidia (unlikely), it will still be possible to turn that on and still see this problem.) The more proper solution, and the one I think this bug report should focus on, would be for gnome-desktop to recognize when TwinView (or Xinerama) is enabled, and in those cases don't attempt to process monitors.xml and just bail out. ** Package changed: xorg-server (Ubuntu) = gnome-desktop (Ubuntu) -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xorg-server in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/577640 Title: nVidia TwinView resolution not supported by X To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gnome-desktop/+bug/577640/+subscriptions ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 566862] Re: can't detect external LCD display and gnome-display-properties window lies in external monitor
The xrandr output is taken from the TV itself, so if it is reporting that it can do 1280x1024, X will try to use that resolution. The way to solve this is to teach the kernel to not provide that resolution for this particular piece of hardware using a 'quirk'. Unfortunately since no X or kernel logs are included it's not possible to construct this. Are you still able to reproduce this behavior on Ubuntu Precise? If you don't want to install Ubuntu Precise, it should be sufficient to boot a Live USB session, configure the monitors, and see if it is working properly now.You can get the current Live USB desktop image at http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/daily-live/current/ and create a USB boot drive using usb-creator. If it still occurs, please attach your /var/log/Xorg.0.log, the output of 'xrandr --verbose', and the output of 'sudo dmesg dmesg.txt'. ** Changed in: xorg-server (Ubuntu) Status: Confirmed = Incomplete -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xorg-server in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/566862 Title: can't detect external LCD display and gnome-display-properties window lies in external monitor To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xorg-server/+bug/566862/+subscriptions ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp
