[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 772873] Re: Vino does not work with compositing

2012-01-20 Thread Pierre Fischer
@Josh : Marking Bug #918815 (as well as Bug #915906) as a duplicate of
this bug would be inconsistent with what Bryce wrote in message #37 here
above. In any case the description of both bugs explicitly refer to this
bug and makes them this way dependent on it. Is this OK or do you want
something more explicit?

Hi, I'm experiencing the same issue with latest update of 12.04.

STEPS:

OBSERVED RESULT:

New resolution is set but Catalyst Control Center closes immediately.
There is no crash report.

EXPECTED RESULT

New resolution is set and Catalyst Control Center remains open

When I start the control center via the terminal with sudo amdcccle I
do not have this behaviour and the window remains open.

System Info:

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 899159] Re: [snb-gt2] GPU lockup render.IPEHR: 0x7b009004 [Needs mesa 7.11+git]

2012-01-20 Thread Hernando Torque
I'm afraid I can't test the 0x7b009004 hangs, as I now only seem to be
able to reproduce the 0x7a02 case (I no longer get a crash file when
playing the game that originally caused the hang, just the
i915_error_state that points to the other code).

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 915265] Re: Unity launcher corruption on resume from suspend

2012-01-20 Thread Alberto Milone
FBO textures are not preserved after suspend. For this reason we should
redraw the launcher on resume. This is a bug in Unity, not in the Nvidia
driver.

According to Jason Smith, we should call QueueDraw() (in Unity) to
redraw the launcher on resume. The main problem here is that, as far as
I know, there's no such thing as a handler which reinitialises Unity's
components on resume.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 899159] Re: [snb-gt2] GPU lockup render.IPEHR: 0x7b009004 [Needs mesa 7.11+git]

2012-01-20 Thread Bryce Harrington
Ok, well when xorg-edgers is in a state it can be installed, please
install it and verify the 0x7a02 crashes go away.

As far as I know we haven't introduced anything that would fix the
0x7b009004 crash. However, it's entirely conceivable the 0x7b009004 and
0x7a02 hangs are just different aspects of the same bug. So, what
we need is to verify that with the new mesa neither crash occurs.

with that. It's conceivable that once that's fixed the other symptoms

This bug was reported on a development snapshot of Unity but lacks elements for
it to be actionable:
- there seems to be no reports of further occurences of the issue
- the bug cannot be reproduced reliably
- the information provided is not sufficient to track down the issue to a
particular programming error.
Could you please check if this issue is present in the current version, and if
it is reopen the bug to a NEW status.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 915188] Re: LCD backlight level is reset to maximum after a reboot.

2012-01-20 Thread Bryce Harrington
Generally these types of issues should be analyzed as gnome-power-
manager issues first, then driver issues if g-p-m can be ruled out.

It's possible g-p-m is simply not tracking your backlight settings
correctly, or not updating them properly on reboot.

** Package changed: xserver-xorg-video-intel (Ubuntu) = gnome-power-
manager (Ubuntu)

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 913701] Re: [snb-m-gt2] crashed after first boot running gnome3. False GPU lockup render.IPEHR: 0x7b001804

2012-01-20 Thread Bryce Harrington
Creo, there is a roughly similar bug that was fixed in mesa 7.11.

If you can reproduce this bug reliably enough, verify it is still
happening with current Precise and then install the xorg-edgers PPA
(which has mesa 7.11) and verify it no longer occurs after that. Let me
know one way or the other.

[Note that at the moment xorg-edgers is undergoing a transition so is
not installable, but that should be cleared in a few hours. Pay
attention to warning messages about this in the PPA description, and
hold off updating until it says it's good to go again.]

If it does still occur with xorg-edgers, then run 'apport-collect
913701' to add the newer logs to this bug, and we'll forward the issue
upstream.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 444154]

2012-01-20 Thread Peter Hutterer
Server bug, affects all absolute devices.

Problem is simply that when we scale an axis range into [0..screen
width], the latter is actually one past the highest possible coordinate
and triggers the screen crossing. 0 is still part of the screen and does
not trigger the screen cross. Hence you can only change screens to the
right/bottom.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 918769] Re: X blink with Vostro 360 and Ubuntu Oneiric and Precise

2012-01-20 Thread Bryce Harrington
Hmm, familiar sounding bug, but not really anything in the logs to say
what's going on in this case.

[16.600] (II) intel(0): Output eDP1 connected
[16.600] (II) intel(0): Output VGA1 disconnected
[16.600] (II) intel(0): Output HDMI1 disconnected
[16.600] (II) intel(0): Output DP1 disconnected
[16.600] (II) intel(0): Output HDMI2 disconnected
[16.600] (II) intel(0): Output HDMI3 disconnected
[16.600] (II) intel(0): Output DP2 disconnected

Could be another eDP problem; I see your system has its panel connected
like that. There's been a lot of work on that recently due to various
bugs. The 3.2 kernel supposedly had quite a few fixes for eDP, but
evidently not enough.

Presumably if you disable the laptop display and use an external display
on VGA or HDMI it should work. That might be worth testing as a
workaround if you have a spare monitor.

These types of bugs are typically issues in the kernel drm kms code, so
given you see different kernels are used in live cd vs. installation,
that would be a reasonably thing to look at. In fact, let's have you
test an upstream kernel snapshot, just in case this issue is already
solved:

  http://kernel.ubuntu.com/~kernel-ppa/mainline/drm-next/

Also test this one, in case the fix is still in testing:

  http://kernel.ubuntu.com/~kernel-ppa/mainline/drm-intel-next/

If neither of those kernels solves the problem, let me know and we can
notify Intel and go from there.

Oh, also before you test those kernels, please enable drm debug
messages:

Run `sudo xdiagnose`, it's the first checkbox. Tick that, apply, wait
for grub to rebuild, then reboot the machine. Reproduce the issue, and
collect `sudo dmesg.txt` which will have the detailed eDP debug
messages.

Actually, instead of those two kernels, try testing this one, which is
much newer:

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 912992] Re: [snb-m-gt2+] Primary laptop display not working, external monitor works fine.

2012-01-20 Thread Bryce Harrington
Another worthwhile thing to test is if the new upstream kernel has a
fix:

  http://kernel.ubuntu.com/~kernel-ppa/mainline/v3.3-rc1-precise/

But meanwhile I'll go ahead and forward this issue to Intel.

[Problem]
On i855, happens consistently when playing video using VLC (other players
also), after about 5 minutes. Rockman 2 speedrun from tasvideos.org is pretty
reliable for reproducing this. :)

The video goes blank (blue) and can no longer be seen until after
reboot, though the playing does resume.

After switching to fbdev driver the crash can no longer be reproduced.

Sounds similar to a couple other bugs recently reported. Unfortunately
neither of the logs tell what GPU error you hit so impossible to say if
it's a new bug or dupe.

Are you able to reproduce this bug? If so, for GPU lockup bugs what you
need to provide is:

 * sudo dmesg  dmesg.txt
 * /sys/kernel/debug/dri/0/i915_error_state
 * /var/log/Xorg.0.log

These should be collected *while* the machine is locked up (or shortly
thereafter if it recovers on its own). You might need to SSH into the
machine to collect them.

and again too slow to display the icons on the splash and at the end logged me
off. I tried virt-manager and I got a message

Booted in GNOME classic, went back to dual monitors. Worked for a day
and then crashed again, pretty quickly after I started listening to an
audio podcast in Banshee.

[Problem]
On a fresh install of 12.04, on my Thinkpad L520 with sandybridge graphics, the
primary monitor displays nothing. An external monitor connected will work
fine. This setup works fine in previous versions of Ubuntu. (Previous
versions need the 'noapic' flag to boot though).

Someone else reported similar problems on a Thinkpad L520, and also saw
it on Ubuntu 11.10 with the vanilla 3.2.0 kernel compiled from
kernel.org source. They worked around it by disabling modesetting in
grub.

2012-01-20 Thread Bryce Harrington
Issue is still marked as open upstream, and we've had one instance on
precise, so evidently the bug is still out there.

  https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xserver-xorg-video-
intel/+bug/914131

From the upstream bug report: In essence, it seems that stale DPMS
properties (kernel bug 24982), which normally just result in a blank
screen, can in some situations result in a crash/hang.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 919365] [NEW] OpenGL programs crash with nvidia driver 280.13

2012-01-20 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
You have been subscribed to a public bug:

Signal 11 is raised by many previously (at least on 10.04) working programs
that use OpenGL.
Crash happens always in /usr/lib/nvidia-current/libnvidia-glcore.so.280.13 .

I'm on Xubuntu 11.10 64bit.
Kernel 3.0.0-15-generic

Example:

glxgears will crash on startup.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 912992] Re: [snb-m-gt2+] Primary laptop display not working, external monitor works fine.

2012-01-20 Thread Stephen Rees-Carter
I have subscribed to that bug.

I did a dist-upgrade of my machine, as well as installing the latest
Kernel you linked and have some interesting results:

1) I now need the 'noapic' flag in my boot options again.
Is this the same bug, or a different issue?
I have another bug open about this already:
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/903558

2) The 'xrandr --output LVDS1 --off; xrandr --output LVDS1 --auto'
command succeeds in turning on the other monitor some times. Compiz
keeps crashing through, but it does switch on occasionally.

3) I did some testing with the Display settings and my Laptop monitor
works on 1360 x 768 and smaller, but the two larger resolutions, 1440 x
900 and 1600 x 900 don't work.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 916793] [NEW] automatically session logout- without user confirmation/introduction

2012-01-20 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
You have been subscribed to a public bug:

This is a curious ans critical thing:

I was running several programs on unity desktop 5 on Ubuntu 12.04
(updated to 15.1.2012), also package installations.

There happends a automatically session logout , which I have not
introduced, out of nothing.

I came back to the Ubuntu startslash for logging in automatically. A
login in a unity session brings a new session on.

The gnome-system-monitor is still showing the programs running from the
privious session, but I could not access them from my new logging in. So
the old session seems to be running anywhere and anyhow.

That's a very bad behaviour. I have not saved my work and no chance to enter
the running processes for that anymore, so dataloose is the consequence.
As special add: Package installation has not finished it's work, or better: I
be not sure that it has done all installations with success.

Because I have had not made any updates/upgrades with this run I am
optimistic that a newstart of the system does not break boot abilities,
but think of this during an update/upgrade. - The system may become
broken.

I see this as critical bug.

Because of not knowing what happens exactly I have filed this against
unity v5 with apport call, so you have all logs which gathered by
apport.

When you have the need for further logs or doings, tell me.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 919470] [NEW] gnome-terminal and terminator slow under moderate load

2012-01-20 Thread Bayle Shanks
Public bug reported:

Under Unity-2D 11.10, when running a program which rapidly outputs a lot
of text to the terminal, both gnome-terminal and terminator respond
sluggishly; keyboard input into the terminal takes a long time to be
accepted, switching workspaces to or from the workspace displaying the
offending terminal window takes a few seconds.

Also, dragging the scrollbar to scroll takes forever in both gnome-
terminal and terminator; the scrollbar does not jump to the desired
location but slowly moves towards it; during this time the terminal is
unresponsive.

This did not occur in Natty under Gnome 2.

This does not occur in xterm.

See also
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gnome-terminal/+bug/850649 . I am not
positive that this bug lies in xorg, but it is more general that
gnome-terminal, and also a comment in that thread requested that someone do a
ubuntu-bug xorg in order to capture graphics config info.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 919478] [NEW] Running warzone from source by following the guide results in corruption fo graphics settings

2012-01-20 Thread rockachu2
Public bug reported:

Compiled ran warzone as a normal user.

It ran, and I closed it after altering its display settings.
It didn't close properly, leaving the system in a 640x480 resolution.
Used display to change it back to 1920x1080

tried to run it again: got a sdl error that it couldn't find a working
surface

from this point on, firefox showed syptoms of the issue, where scrolling
resulted in lag.
Dragging widows resulted in lag with segments of the windows staying behind the
mouse.

glxgears had no noticeable slowdown.

I had to reinstall xserver-xorg-core and the mesa drivers, as well as
regenerate the xorg config using dpkg to fix the issue.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 901386] Re: Ubuntu 3.2 kernels vs. nvidia-current vs GTX 560 (Mainline works)

2012-01-20 Thread Bryce Harrington
Based on the last comment, and the original reporter's comment #16 it
sounds like this might now be worked around in the distro. Can someone
confirm the original reported problem (failure to boot) is resolved?

Comment #17 suggests there may be secondary problems (which may or may
not be a consequence of the fix), so I'll leave the bug open for now.
It would be helpful if someone can pin down what those issues are and if
they are indeed a result of disabling IOMMU.

Even though this issue sounds like it's been worked around in the
kernel, I'd like to see this escalated to nvidia. Alberto, can you
mention it to them in the next call?

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 898784] Re: Distorted screen on MacBook Air 3, 2 (GT216 10de:08a3)

2012-01-20 Thread Bryce Harrington
You have a nVidia Corporation Device [10de:08a3], which is a GT216
(GeForce 320M), however the nvidia 290.10 driver's README only lists
that it supports the 10de:08a5 version of the GT216, so I wonder if that
could be part of the problem. However that doesn't explain why it would
work on oneiric and then fail on precise.

I see they have a beta 290.53 driver but it's windows only, and I don't
see mention of any fixes for GeForce 3xxM series hardware.

The the good news is that an external monitor now works perfectly
