[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 782855] Re: missing pixels (horizontal lines) in font rendering

2012-02-18 Thread Jane Atkinson
Somewhere - and I can't find the reference now - I read that an
effective workaround is to create /etc/X11/xorg.conf with the following
content.

Section Device
Identifier Intel
Driver intel
Option DebugWait True
EndSection

I've found that this works on my EeePC 900. I had to reboot, not just
log out, before it took effect. Maybe just restarting the xserver would
work as well.

Re: [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 933956] Re: (precise) Keyboard stops working sometimes when shift is pressed

2012-02-18 Thread Pablo Almeida
Hello, Fabio. I found the cause of the problem. It's Compiz's Wobbly
Windows plugin. It sets a shortcut as Shift and that was causing the
problem. Disabling the plugin or just the shortcut solves the problem.
However, I believe something is wrong with it, since this is the first time
this happens (I use this plugin for as long as I can remember) and the
update that caused this included and update to ccsm.

2012/2/17 Fabio Marconi fabiomarc...@ubuntu.com

 Thanks in advance.

I see the exact same thing as Greg Auger using RV780. HD3100, I think.

The same thing happens to the first character in the panel when it shows
the window title, but when the window controls are displayed, there's no
sign of it.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 934956] [NEW] [REGRESSION] Xorg Intel GMA 3600 driver does not work (Atom N2600 onboard graphics)

2012-02-18 Thread Gerold Jens Wucherpfennig
Public bug reported:

I use the oneiric AMD64 version with latest BIOS.
Hardware: A brand-new ATOM N2600 netbook.

Everything worked fine, but not 3D required for
Unity/GNOME3. So i tried some bleeding edge
packages. They do not work!
(xorg-edgers PPA for oniric.)

AND EVEN WORSE:
Ubuntu 12.04 Precise Pangolin (daily-live ISO)
from today (2012-02-18)
does not even boot at all.

Ubuntu does only show a grey screen
on system startup and Ctrl+Alt+F2 etc. do not work.
A complete SYSTEM FREEZE happens!

There is something wrong with the
xserver-xorg-video-intel
driver when you have Intel GMA 3600
(Atom N2600 onboard graphics).

This is a regression, because on
ubuntu oneiric 2D graphics works
and on precise you can not even boot!

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 935319] [NEW] xorg-server dependencies error - Impossible to install xorg, xserver-xorg, ...

2012-02-18 Thread Braulio
Public bug reported:

I removed the xserver-xorg and xorg and now i can't install anything
neither fix broken dependencies... I've tried everything i found in
internet, but nothing useful.

I made apt-get update, upgrade, dpkg, apt-get -f install

Here there are the dependencies i can't solve:

xorg : Depends: xserver-xorg (= 1:7.6+7ubuntu7.1) but it is not going
to be installed

-
xserver-xorg : Depends: xserver-xorg-core (= 2:1.9.99.901+git20110131) but it
is not going to be installed
Depends: xserver-xorg-video-all but it is not going to be
installed or
 xorg-driver-video
Depends: xserver-xorg-input-all but it is not going to be
installed or
 xorg-driver-input
Depends: xserver-xorg-input-evdev but it is not going to be
installed
--
xserver-xorg-core : Depends: libpciaccess0 (= 0.12.902) but 0.12.1-2 is to be
installed
--
xserver-xorg-input-evdev : Depends: xorg-input-abi-16
Depends: xserver-xorg-core (= 2:1.11.99) but it is
not going to be installed
---
xserver-xorg-input-all : Depends: xserver-xorg-input-evdev but it is not going
to be installed
Depends: xserver-xorg-input-synaptics but it is not
going to be installed
Depends: xserver-xorg-input-vmmouse but it is not
going to be installed
Depends: xserver-xorg-input-wacom but it is not going
to be installed
-
xserver-xorg-core : Depends: libpciaccess0 (= 0.12.902) but 0.12.1-2 is to be
installed
--

I think the loop ends with libpciaccess0, since is the only one i've already
installed, but i can't purge/reinstall neither solve it.

How can i fix the problem?

Thank you.

Not sure if proper source but when downgrading can't duplicate at will.
(dr to libutouch-geis1_2.2.3-0ubuntu1, though haven't given a long test
to inadvertent occurrences

Recently here with others the left click 'select' has been 'randomly'
getting stuck on, causing the cursor to select everything in it's path
otherwise be unresponsive, ie. nothing can be clicked on.

At least here the effect lasts for about 20 -30 sec's, when it happens
if stopping all activity the cursor control return in that time frame

It is also seen on occasion as a 'stuck' grab, same deal, nothing can be
done till something releases. Additionally I've a few instances where
suddenly the left click is non-functional, again control returns within
20 -30 sec's

With a little practice have been able to cause this to happen within a few
attempts, basically moving the cursor with left button depressed (highlight)
combined with a small tap.
So will attach 2 video's with short descriptions

It's also possible disabling the tap to click in g-s-d may prevent this,
again no long term test

  * New upstream release:
- Added support for the following GPU:
  o NVS 5200M
- Fixed a bug that caused black areas to appear on the
back faces of some models in Maya.
- Fixed a bug that resulted in the printing of spurious
  loader error messages.
- Fixed a bug that could cause X to crash after
  hotplugging displays.
- Fixed a bug which caused face selections to be
misrendered in Maya when using the paint selection

- Improved performance for interactive tools in Mudbox.
- Added support for deleting SDI audio ancillary data
packets when a video frame is dropped on a Quadro SDI

2012-02-18 Thread Doug McMahon
Chase - I have this version installed
1.5.0+git20120210-0ubuntu2

Am actually at a bit of a loss as to possible package, initially thought
the utouch libs but after downgrading both the geis frame1 to 2
versions back was able to eventually cause

Atm have everything up to date am running with 'tap to click'
disabled in g-c-c. So with it disabled I obviously can't intentionally
cause this to happen, figured I' d run for a few days see if it
happened 'naturally', so far today it hasn't

If it was just me I'd chalk up to hardware corner case but a number of users
have complained of this over the past week.
If I try in 11.10 to cause this it isn't possible
See in both unity 3d unity-2d, haven't tried other sessions

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 934770] Re: Inadvertant mouse movement click is causing cursor to stick on left click

2012-02-18 Thread Doug McMahon
Sorry to spam this - starting to think a mouse click has nothing to
do with this

By default TapAndDragGesture is set to 1 which here allows 2 3 taps
to register (2 tap to open, 3 tap to highlight

So what's happening is a quick 2 tap cursor move is 'grabbing' , this
lasts till I stop activity wait 5 sec's.

If I set TapAndDragGesture to 0 then I'm only getting a single tap
registered I believe this issue can't occur

So if TapAndDragGesture=1 is intended to allow 2/3 tap then possibly
this can be considered user error not a bug?

2012-02-18 Thread Ghislain Bugnicourt
Well this problem is quite old : it became obvious with Ubuntu 10.10 (I
couldn't even start a live-CD or USB) until now.
But I also had an issue with Ubuntu 10.04 : the use of compiz (by enabling the
3D effects) used to create random freezes. The workaround to these freezes was
to install compiz fusion icon, to check indirect rendering in its options,
and to add it to startup applications. I can't say if it was related to our
current problem. Most probably ?

I would be glad to try any new kernel (or other changes) when I have
time, but I'm not an advanced user so please explain the method(s) step
by step...

Regards,

Nope, I can safely say that is a different issue. The current issue
prevents X from starting up an accelerated driver at all, and so compiz
would simply not work (or perhaps only through incredibly slow swrast).
So I believe you would have noticed the issue even then.

I would be glad to try any new kernel (or other changes) when I have
time, but I'm not an advanced user so please explain the method(s) step

We need to start compiling kernels and performing a bisection using the
10.04 kernel as the last known good commit. Can you track down a guide
for compiling a kernel on ubuntu and simply try replacing your current
one with one from git clone
git://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/linux/kernel/git/torvalds/linux.git?

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 805700]

2012-02-18 Thread Tybion
I have had a problem with video for the last few versions of Ubuntu, and
for the last couple of versions (at least) have been running in a
failsafe mode. A good test for me has been Google Earth. I have not
been able to run Google Earth properly for some time now. With
pci=noacpi in Oneiric, I actually have the best set up I have had so far
- I can now run Google Earth with proper performace AND Gnome 3. I
submitted this report, because I wanted to get the problem addressed
properly, though, rather than just hoping that it will work in the next
Ubuntu version. I also thought that it would be good to get it fixed
for the long term release of Ubuntu - Precise. I will install Ubuntu
10.04.3 on a spare partition to confirm (or otherwise) that there is a
problem with that version also.

Thanks, Milan - yes, that info is worth a lot. :)

So .. the Lucid version of Xorg correctly loads the 'intel' driver for kernel
2.6.32.28 (probably need to repeat test with the current Xorg?)

It is likely (but to be confirmed) that Xorg incorrectly loads 'vesa' for the
 following kernel ..
 [DIR]v2.6.35.7-maverick/29-Sep-2010 11:26 -

(which is about 90 versions later)
So, what's the last version you can test that works? Also, why do you say to
be confirmed? The info is only interesting if you're absolutely sure you're
right. ;-)

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 915408] Re: Garbled display on external screen when using 1920x1080 instead of 1920x1200

2012-02-18 Thread Joseph Salisbury
When you ran the test kernel from
http://people.canonical.com/~jsalisbury/lp915408/, did the uname -a
report only 3.2.0-12-generic as the kernel version? It should have had
the following test appended ~lp915408. If it didn't it may not have
been the correct test kernel.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 556782] Re: [rs690m] Graphics corruption with ati x1200

2012-02-18 Thread Roderick Spiller
The bug is not a driver issue but a hardware issue. The OEMs of x1200
series locked down the bios to the integrated graphic card. To fix
this issue you need to flash a custom bios to your netbook/laptop and
and change the bios settings. I did this two weeks ago. my lt3103u
with the x1270 chip is running great. No need to turn off KMS and it
works with the gallium driver with are the standard on the newer
releases of ubuntu. I posted instructions to ubuntu forum. Here is the
link:

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 927441] Re: Far left character in panel (and launcher popups) distorted

2012-02-18 Thread Omer Akram
I had a chat with Jay yesterday and he is able to reproduce the issue as
well. I have to test if the issue happened on Alpha2 and then just
update Unity there on the live session and restart Unity to check if the
issue happens. Since Jay thinks the issue is in mesa.. I'll do that
tomorrow, unless someone else beats me to it ;-)

Ooh, this means this is *VERY* likely a sideport ram issue, and should
narrow down the bugfixing process significantly.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 934707] Re: emachine e725 boots to black screen

2012-02-18 Thread Terry Jones
Canonical Kernel Team
Archive for June, 2011
Brad Figg
Kernel Team Meeting Minutes

Status: General Oneiric

We’ve almost resolved all the issues from the v3.0 fallout. We’re just
wrestling with module-init-tools to get depmod sorted out. We’ve rebased
to v3.0-rc2 and pushed to master-next. With v3.0-rc2, there’s an issue
on boot (black screen of death) when the i915 driver is loaded. This can
be worked around using i915.modeset=0 at the moment. There’s also
reported boot issues on some system’s with atom processors on at least
v3.0-rc1. So, I’m a bit hesitant to upload at the moment knowing we’ll
break some common hardware use cases.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 935912] [NEW] nvLock: client timed out, taking the lock

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 917394] [NEW] xserver restarts when I start emacs

2012-02-18 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
You have been subscribed to a public bug:

When I type emacs, emacs -fn fixed, or emacs -fn Monospace-12, the
xserver restarts and I am logged out. This happened with the original
emacs23 installation, and it also happens with the current
ppa:cassou/emacs version (24).

The following is from my xorg log file:

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 917394] Re: xserver restarts when I start emacs

2012-02-18 Thread Bryce Harrington
Odd. Well, when you see a backtrace in the Xorg.0.log that usually
means it is the X server (or something lower like the kernel).

Please collect a full backtrace of the X server - see
http://wiki.ubuntu.com/X/Backtracing for directions.
