[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 914773] Re: [radeon] Compiz memory leak and blank screen unable to login when using radeon driver

2012-03-03 Thread Daniel van Vugt
** Description changed:

+ The issue *appears* to be that radeon's implementation of
+ glXWaitVideoSyncSGI (from libgl1-mesa-glx) hangs and leaks X events
+ while the screen is locked or asleep.
+
  WORKAROUNDS:
-
Try each of these, individually and together:

  1. Before leaving/locking the PC run ccsm, and in the OpenGL section
  disable Sync To VBlank.

  2. Before leaving/locking the PC, minimize all active windows.

  3. Install fglrx driver from AMD/ATI.
-

  ORIGINAL DESCRIPTION:
  There are two issues.

Compiz has a memory leak so it expands to take up all memory plus swap
  (12 + 4 gig)

Unity shows a blank screen and does not come up with a login prompt,
only the mouse pointer is displayed.

ctl+alt F1 works so you can get into a console and create the attached
bug report. This was after killing vviewer and before restarting
  lightdm

I was running KVM and vviewer as well and killed vviewer but still did not
get get login screen
Killed compiz which freed the memory still did not get login screen
had to restart lightdm to get back into Unity and restart everything.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 914773] Re: [radeon] Compiz memory leak and blank screen unable to login when using radeon driver

2012-03-03 Thread Daniel van Vugt
Actually, the primary leak in _XEnq is going to happen to any OpenGL
app, not just compiz. And the secondary leak in
PrivateScreen::processEvents() is caused completely by the primary leak.

So this is not a compiz-specific issue. It's just that compiz is usually
the only OpenGL program that most people are running for long periods.

It's still not clear which Mesa/DRM/radeon packages this bug should be
assigned to. But it's some combination thereof.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 941046] Re: Recent clickpad patch breaks two-finger-right-click

2012-03-03 Thread Alex Murray
@Chase - any chance this may get fixed (and hence reenabled) for
clickpads which don't have a physical right button (such as all the ones
on Apple laptops?) As it is a shame to be so close to having good
support for such devices now only to have it removed. I agree that
maintaining two / three finger clicks for right / middle buttons is more
important than adding 2 finger drag support but it would be great to
eventually have both :)

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 945006] Re: Screen flickers heavily after upgrading to 12.04 beta 1

2012-03-03 Thread Christos Sintoris
The monitor that flickers is the built-in LCD display of the laptop (HP
Elitebook 2730p).

I booted 12.04 B1 with nomodeset boot option and there was no flickering (but
otherwise wrong display resolution).
I reverted to 11.10, and the flickering stopped.
I will install 12.04 B1 from scratch, instead of upgrading, to see if the
problem re-appears

Memory usage of compiz was up to 5% (100MB) again with VSync disabled
and not using pc for 3 hours, didn't restart compiz though, don't know
if that is necessary when changing that option.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 550625] Re: Alps touchpad is recognized but synaptics clients and scrolling do not work

2012-03-03 Thread Walter Garcia-Fontes
I've got this same error when updating to Ubuntu 12.04 Beta 1 from
11.10. But I think the current kernel in this version (3.2.0-17-generic
#27-Ubuntu) already incorporates the new module since the touchpad is
perfectly recognized and working correctly. Can this bug be marked as
fixed released and may be ask to SRU it to previous Ubuntu releases if
there is interest?

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 945201] Re: letters and buttons not displayed correct

2012-03-03 Thread Niclas Kiefer
Right now im using the preinstalled driver. Everything works fine (and
fast), that definetely wasnt the case in 11.10. Even Gnome Shell works
fine now. When i was using the ATI driver instead everything was pretty
slow and the opposite of smooth.

Can this be fixed without installing the ATI driver ?

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 937179] Re: horizontal scroll not working

2012-03-03 Thread Jim Chatman
Same with me, I have enabled horizontal scrolling, checked, double
checked and triple checked that it's still enabled; it is. It works fine
until I put the machine to sleep and then wake it. At that point,
vertical scrolling works perfectly, but horizontal scrolling doesn't,
even if I move the cursor to the scroll bar. But it will scroll by
holding down the left button and dragging the scroll bar to the right or
left.

The weirdest thing though is that it doesn't do it every time it's
woken. Usually, yes, but not always. It's done this since at least
11.04, and if I recall correctly it did it as far back as 10.04 through
10.10.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 937179] Re: horizontal scroll not working

2012-03-03 Thread Jim Chatman
Addendum to previous comment: I should have said that I'm currently
using Ubuntu 11.10 and that I have an older Toshiba Satellite L305,
which runs remarkably well with Ubuntu, thanks to everyone there!

2012-03-03 Thread Nuno Santos
@Jim Chatman: that's not exactly the same situation as me. I can't use
the horizontal scroll in any situation whatsover. Anyways, thanks for
bringing that up. Let's hope some more experinced user, reads this post
and maybe comes up with a solution.

Cheers

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 936552] Re: MacBookAir 4, 1 trackpad does not work with evdev/multitouch driver

2012-03-03 Thread Clint Byrum
More testing has revealed this to be some kind of race condition I
think. I can now fix the problem by switching to tty1 and restarting
lightdm.

Diffing the two log files reveals a massive difference between first-
boot Xorg.0.log and Xorg.0.log.old. I will attach both files. The
interesting part, to me, is here (old is the failed file):

This looks like perhaps udev isn't done reporting all of the devices and so the
keyboard and/or trackpad ends up being detected improperly.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 936552] Re: MacBookAir 4, 1 trackpad does not work with evdev/multitouch driver

2012-03-03 Thread Clint Byrum
Well I've at least found a workaround. I added 'udevadm settle' right
before the 'exec lightdm' in /etc/init/lightdm.conf. As long as that is
in place, I do not experience this issue.

So, I think this is an issue with boot speed. My machine has almost
nothing installed beyond the default, and boots from grub - lightdm in
about 5 - 8 seconds. That might explain why you don't see it Seth if you
have more things starting at bootup, as that may be enough to delay X
long enough for udev to be available.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 945303] [NEW] HDMI color space is out of whack when connected through an AVR

2012-03-03 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
You have been subscribed to a public bug:

Fresh install of Precise Beta on a brand new custom built HTPC with
Intel HD 3000 graphics.

Color via HDMI is completely out of whack color space wise when
connected via HTPC -- Pioneer AVR -- Samsung LCD TV

When connected directly to the Samsung, color is fine. This is not an
acceptable solution, as an HTPC without surround sound is basically
useless to me.

Windows 7 installation works correctly when connected HTPC -- Pioneer
AVR -- Samsung LCD TV.

Not sure what really can be done about it at this point.

Filing report from seperate system as the OS has now been wiped on that
machine.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 945670] [NEW] computer completely locks up after hibernate

2012-03-03 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
You have been subscribed to a public bug:

Most times I try to resume from hibernate (S4), the computer completely
locks up a few seconds after it resumes from hibernate. Specifically
when this happens, I usually see the login screen where I can resume my
existing session. The mouse works for the first few seconds, and I can
even begin to type my password. But within seconds, the computer
entirely locks up, specifically it no longer reacts to any mouse or
keyboard input, including Alt+SysRq+REISUB.

I suspect the ATi graphics and the Broadcom wifi chips are part of the
problem, as I believe the AMD C-60 hybrid APU is still unsupported in
Linux, and Broadcom wifi in Linux is notoriously unstable. The timing of
the lockup appears consistent with how long it might take the wifi card
to (try to) reestablish wifi connectivity.

None that resuming from sleep (S3) usually works fine on my system.

Final remarks: I am a highly technical user and can provide additional
information upon request if developers want to know something not
automatically collected by Apport. Also, I believe all users of my
laptop (and similar models too) are afflicted similarly based on
threads/discussions on how to try to get everything working properly.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 945877] [NEW] GPU lockup when using glPolygonMode(GL_BACK, GL_LINE)

2012-03-03 Thread Sjoerd Cranen
Public bug reported:

I am making an application using OpenGL. Everything works fine, but if I
include a call to glPolygonMode(GL_BACK, GL_LINE) in my code, the GPU
hangs. I was able to reproduce this three consecutive times (the
function call moved around a bit in the code), and see the problem
disappear when the function call was removed again.

The relevant part of kern.log:

[ 189.285257] [drm:i915_hangcheck_elapsed] *ERROR* Hangcheck timer elapsed...

I'm attaching the output of

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 873482] Re: elantech: Touchpad always reports 3 finger tap as 1 finger tap

2012-03-03 Thread bwat47
Actually I may be wrong. The driver wasn't why it isn't currently
working in precise. Looking at the latest comments on this bugreport:

https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xserver-xorg-input-
synaptics/+bug/754000

We now need to set this setting to enable 3 finger tap in unity:
synclient TapButton3=2

After doing this 3 finger tap is working for me in 12.04 beta 1. And the
driver patches should be activated now in the beta right?

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 912044] Re: scroll lock doesn't work, which affects users of badly designed backlit keyboards

2012-03-03 Thread JGJoy
Workaround for me:
Find an unused mapping:
$  xmodmap -pm
Use the modX which has nothing applied to it, then try (assuming modX =
mod3 from xmodmap -pm output):
$  xmodmap -e add mod3 = Scroll_Lock

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 945251] Re: Cannot build wine with GLU support on Precise amd64

2012-03-03 Thread Rocko
Some more research shows that the libglu1-mesa-dev package doesn't
include the file /usr/lib/i386-linux-gnu/libGLU.so. Since it conflicts
with the i386 package, shouldn't it include this file also if it is to
include the required 32 bit dev files?

As a workaround, if I have the libglu1-mesa:i386 package installed I can
symlink the file /usr/lib/i386-linux-gnu/libGLU.so.1 to the missing
file, and then I can build wine with just the libglu1-mesa-dev:amd64
package installed.

The problem is widespread, eg libxrandr-dev, libxi-dev, libsane-dev, etc
all exhibit this problem.

What is the recommended solution? I don't follow what is meant in
comment 4 about stitching the components together afterwards. Should the
libglu1-mesa:i386 package include libGLU.so as a symlink?

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 914773] Re: [radeon] Compiz memory leak and blank screen unable to login when using radeon driver

2012-03-03 Thread Daniel van Vugt
Sounds like better news if the PC was still usable, but the 100MB is
still not great. It is however a much lower rate of leakage per hour
than before.

I would be interested to see what valgrind (or massif) reports as the
source of the leaks (or bloat) when vsync is disabled.

Please also try the workarounds overnight (for 8 hours or more) so we
have a good comparison with the original problem.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 945251] Re: Cannot build wine with GLU support on Precise amd64

2012-03-03 Thread Rocko
Additionally regarding the missing packages, I checked a fresh install
of 12.04 in VirtualBox and even though multiarch is enabled and Synaptic
shows a bunch of i386 files, some are missing, like libgl1-mesa-
dev:i386. It seems that the missing packages is a general problem. So is
this worth filing another bug for?
