[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 943968] Re: Trackpad swipe crashes X

2012-03-07 Thread Jeroen T. Vermeulen
I just made it crash again, but there's no crash notice after I log in.
I tried “sudo service apport start force_start=1”; it says “service
already running” — not surprising for a beta, but “ps -ef | grep -i
apport” shows nothing.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 943968] Re: Trackpad swipe crashes X

2012-03-07 Thread Jeroen T. Vermeulen
Tried it again after stopping and restarting Apport. No luck. My
Xorg.0.log isn't very helpful either; ends in a bunch of lines like…

[ 46515.<…>] (II) XKB: reuse xkmfile /var/lib/xkb/server-
B9E2FA0EEF8A91EF1CC7991FC61772F1BA8D5E13.xkm

There's nothing in /var/log/gdm from the past 2 or 3 weeks. No output
on the text consoles. I'll try running gdm with signal trapping
disabled next.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 891295] Re: Key repeat is disabled intermittently

2012-03-07 Thread Sebastien Lacroix
Sorry, actually this problem still occurs from time to time, even with
the last version of VMWare (8.0.2 build-591240)

Anyway, somehow, I do not like the fact that a third party app like VMWare
player/workstation can disturb the handling of my keyboard this way. I
understand that a Windows guest VM also need to achieve key repeat, but this
should not affect the host indeed.
Perhaps we should make the mechanism default to the opposite state (after all,
it's enabled by default on Windows) so it would remain enabled when things
start to go out of sync between the Host Desktop and a VMWare session.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 891295] Re: Key repeat is disabled intermittently

2012-03-07 Thread Tom McSweeney
Like Sebastian, I too have seen this issue continue to crop up from time
to time. The issue doesn't occur as often as it did prior to updating
to the latest version of VMware (8.0.2 build-591240), but it does still
occur. As such, I wouldn't consider this issue resolved, but it is
better than it used to be.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 948899] [NEW] "Six Screens" For GeForce GT 130M

2012-03-07 Thread Ma Xiaojun
Public bug reported:

Please check the attachment first to see what is "Six Screens"

This issue is from a friend of mine. He is testing Ubuntu 12.04 Beta1

His laptop is Lenovo IdeaPad Y450.
http://shop.lenovo.com/us/laptops/ideapad/y-series/y450
And the laptop's discrete graphic is NVIDIA GeForce GT 130M.
http://www.geforce.com/Hardware/NotebookGPUs/geforce-gt-130m

He found that the default open source graphic driver's performance unacceptable.
He then installed the proprietary driver, then the "Six Screens" occurred, SO
SAD.

Please help. Thank you in advance.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 948895] [NEW] Nvidia driver 295.20 - far to many issues to ship in stable release. Games / cinnamon / gnome3 segfaults - use the previous driver!

2012-03-07 Thread yossarian_uk
Public bug reported:

Hi

I am deeply worried that Ubuntu 12.04 is going to be released with the
latest stable Nvidia driver.

At present there are far to many issues with that diver (that is fixed
by using the previous one - 290.10)

For example

1 . Game not able to run *UNLESS* you run with gdb:-

http://www.nvnews.net/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=174245

2. Default 295.20 crash on fork call :-

http://www.nvnews.net/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=174244

3. Cinnamon segfaults with 295.20 :-

http://www.nvnews.net/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=175501

4. [Regression] 295.17 / 295.20 segfault when searching in gnome3

http://www.nvnews.net/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=174049&page=3

These are manjor issue that are going to cause Ubuntu to get a flood of
queries wondering why Ubuntu 12.04 is so unstable (when it won't be -
the driver is...)

Nvidia have acknowledged the issue with the driver

"NVIDIA internally filed bug 943126 to track this issue."

So a new version will be out shortly

I would suggest reverting to 290.10 and moving to the new one when it
comes out or its going to be a complete mess on release day.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 595661] Re: please support h264 hardware acceleration on certain intel video cards

2012-03-07 Thread Benoe
In latest precise development version h264 decoding is still not
supported with Intel 4500MHD:

libva: VA-API version 0.32.0
libva: va_getDriverName() returns 0
libva: Trying to open /usr/lib/dri/i965_drv_video.so
libva: va_openDriver() returns 0
vainfo: VA-API version: 0.32 (libva 1.0.15)
vainfo: Driver version: Intel i965 driver - 1.0.15
vainfo: Supported profile and entrypoints
  VAProfileMPEG2Simple: VAEntrypointVLD
  VAProfileMPEG2Main : VAEntrypointVLD

i965_drv_video.so is there (installed by libva-intel-vaapi-driver), don't know
what is the problem with opening it.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 325074] Re: Window redrawing does not work properly with KDE4 taskbar tooltips.

2012-03-07 Thread Roman
I have just installed KUbuntu 12.04 (beta), and I can confirm that this
bug is gone in this release. I also verified this with the Clemens
Eisserer's testcase available in the Freedesktop report (Bug 22566).
This testcase no longer leaves any trash on the screen.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 948938] Re: Mouse input (warp and clipping) broken in Wine 1.4rc6

2012-03-07 Thread Loris Zinsou
This a test program by Henri Verbeet.
According to its author :
"It prints the mouse coordinates to the terminal,
you mostly care about "delta" for this bug. Press 'C' to enable / disable
clipping, press 'W' to warp the mouse. Note that this doesn't necessarily
behave the same as those games, but it should be enough for basic testing of
relative mouse events."

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 948938] [NEW] Mouse input (warp and clipping) broken in Wine 1.4rc6

2012-03-07 Thread Loris Zinsou
Public bug reported:

Mouse warp and clipping are broken with Wine (tested with Wine 1.3.37 to
1.4rc6) and Ubuntu 12.04.
It works fine with Ubuntu 11.10 and the same versions of Wine.
The bug is present with both xserver 1.11.x and 1.12rc.
I tried on a desktop and a laptop (with mouse and touchpad), same result.

Any application needing these functionalities is unusable (this includes many
3D apps, mostly games).
Either the cursor moves too quickly (Crysis, Bioshock), or to the opposite
direction it was expected to go (Mass Effect). It may depend on the way the app
handles mouse input.
Reports confirm that Mass Effect, Crysis 2 and Bioshock are broken (they
wereworking fine on Ubuntu 11.10), as long as some 3D level design tools.

Here is the bug report on Wine bug tracker :

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 948445] Re: Diagonal dotted corruption when opening a folder, taking screenshot, or seeing a flash.

2012-03-07 Thread André Lopes
yeah.

I spoke into corruption in the diagonal, and this happens whenever you
open a folder.

But the screenshot can also see some corruptions in the vertical. These
also tend to occur when taking the screenshots and see flash video in
firefox.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 948954] [NEW] Black Screen With Xorg fglrx

2012-03-07 Thread Toni Lähdekorpi
Public bug reported:

I've got a iMac with ATI Radeon HD 4670 running Ubuntu 12.04 (also tried 11.10,
same results).
Opensource driver works relatively well, except that Unity 3D is almost
completely unusable and buggy.

Tried both, the installer from AMD and fglrx from jockey, the behavior is the
same.
I installed the latest Catalyst driver, rebooted and got a black screen.
Trying to switch to a TTY console after trying to start Xorg doesn't work.
I need a reboot each time to test.

>From xorg.log:

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 949071] [NEW] CRT monitor refresh setting always resets to 60 after reboot

2012-03-07 Thread sdowney717
Public bug reported:

Every time PP restarts, I have to run nvidia-settings and force set the
monitor refresh rate to 85. It always shows 60 on reboots, and hurts my
eyes.

ASFAIK, nvidia settings is properly saving the xorg.conf file.
But perhaps the kernel, just ignores it and always sets the refresh to 60.

Here is the current xorg.conf

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 949071] Re: CRT monitor refresh setting always resets to 60 after reboot

2012-03-07 Thread sdowney717
I started another thread on the hlep section here.
http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1937190

Another thing I noticed is that after I improperly modified xorg.conf
and could not boot being stuck at "checking battery state ok"

I restarted with and selected the second menu line. (forget what grub
calls it), anyhow I was eventually given several boot options, and
when I choose 'failsafe graphics', with the extra line

Modeline "1600x1200" 301.81 1600 1752 2120 2808 1200 1200 1204 1264

in xorg.conf, failsafe graphics failed to load the gui to login.
To me, that is a bug. Failsafe graphics should not load any xorg.cong dont you
think?

I had to drop to root login and rm xorg.cong in etc/X11. Then it booted
ok.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 949130] [NEW] Display crashes, when changing resolution on GMA X3000

2012-03-07 Thread cheebee
Public bug reported:

Hi,

changing the display resolution or refresh rate (the latter only with
'xrandr') causes irreversible screen crash. The screen is running,
flashing, and I can't able to follow anything in this rush. Hard reset
helps.

My experiences with Ubuntu 10.10 and 11.10 are good. Both systems can
handle display resolution changes immaculately.

Intel® Core 2 Duo E4500
Intel® G965 / ICH8 Chipset

Samsung SyncMaster 932GW, connected with standard VGA.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 706063] Re: Nvidia GT240 compatibility issue

2012-03-07 Thread greg
I'm affected by this, too. Basically, any acceleration seems to be
problematic on NVA3 chips. Passing nouveau.noaccel=1 to kernel fixes
this: booting works normally, albeit X is unaccelerated.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 706063] Re: Nvidia GT240 compatibility issue

2012-03-07 Thread greg
This patch disables acceleration completely for certain known chipsets.
This is not ideal, but certainly better than an unusuable, crashing
system.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 947250] Re: System Restart on Intel MotherBoard DX58SO

2012-03-07 Thread Piyush Roy
Today, system crashed(restarted) 2 times.
1) Opening some site containing(java scripts) on firefox 10 browser.
2) Opening yahoo chess online (on flash player which contains javascripts as
well) also caused system crash. This happened both on chrome and firefox.

I think javascript somehow caused xorg to fail.
Please look into it.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 947350] Re: Display wont go higher than 1024x768

2012-03-07 Thread Matthew
I have tested a live CD of Ubuntu 11.10 and it appears to be having the
same issue. So, I'm switching the status of this "Bug" to invalid. I
guess my TV is having some technical issues...I tested a desktop
computer with a Nvidia Geforce 8400GS to confirm this problem. It has
the same technical problem as my Intel Mobile 4 Series. Thanks for you
time guys.

Bug= Invalid, TV is at fault.

started beeping when I pressed keys on the keyboard. Help this helps in
further investigation. I cannot seem to repeat the problem, sadly.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 935630] Re: White rectangular

2012-03-07 Thread Denver Gingerich
Hi Bryce,

Yes, I just reproduced it with mesa 8.0.1. Here's some dpkg output from
my system (I dist-upgraded around 6pm Eastern yesterday, 2012-03-06):

$ dpkg -l '*mesa*'
Desired=Unknown/Install/Remove/Purge/Hold

So I believe this issue still exists with mesa 8.0.1.

Fabio, I tried dragging with Alt-LeftClick and that drags the window
behind the white window, not the white window itself (as I had
expected). Everything else looks the same as before so I think there's
no need to upload new screenshots.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 935630] Re: White rectangular

2012-03-07 Thread Denver Gingerich
The issue I reported above happened with Chromium, just as before. I
believe the sequence of events this time was: highlight text in address
bar (via double-click), copy the text (via Ctrl-C), create a new tab
(via Ctrl-T), paste the text (via Ctrl-V). I think that the box
appeared at the moment I created the new tab, but I could be wrong.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 949332] [NEW] xserver crashes when playing video with mplayer

2012-03-07 Thread JR
Public bug reported:

whenever I play a video with mplayer (also tried mplayer2) the xserver crashes.
I already stopped kdm, executed startx from the console, opened a xterm inside

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 928930] Re: Scrolling using the center wheel bounces

2012-03-07 Thread Julien Olivier
After some tests, it seems that the bug occurs in Evolution and Nautilus but
not in Epiphany and Synaptic...
In Nautilus, I can make it work normally by keeping the left mouse button
pressed while scrolling. It doesn't help in Evolution though...

I'm lost here :)

the problem can be worked around by using -vo gl in mplayer.

when using default output in vlc, the same crash happens.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 943968] Re: Trackpad swipe crashes X

Thanks, unfortunately nothing informative in those logs. It's a shame
apport isn't capturing the crashes reliably, I think you'll have to
attach gdb and collect a crash trace manually.

This appears similar to bug #911636 and bug #874428, but resizing the
