Public bug reported:
In Ubuntu 11.10, I could disable "dri", so openchrome would play videos
(with a worse performance, but video would be playable).
In a fresh install of Ubuntu 12.04 beta 1 to a hard disk, after "sudo
apt-get update" and "sudo apt-get dist-upgrade" (today, 2012/03/23),
when I try to play video files like .wmv or .webm, my system immediately
freezes. If I start video minimized, it's possible to hear sound, but
when I call the player (with Alt + Tab) my system immediately freezes
again.
I think Bug #760743 won't help, because here we have a freeze and with
12.04 the system doesn't enable hardware acceleration {OpenGL renderer
string: Gallium 0.4 on llvmpipe (LLVM 0x300)}.
So, until now, in 12.04 beta 1, I was forced to use software rasterizer.
This would have to bring compatibility, but freezes persists and I have
a slower system than 11.10.

Public bug reported: I have a ThinkPad L520 (7859-5BG) Core i5-2520M(2.5GHz) with 4GB RAM and Ubuntu 11.10 32-bit install and with gnome classic (no effects) environment Condition: When my battery is charging via power adapter, system is severely slow. This is most often visible when just about every process takes very high CPU (e.g. gnome-panel consuming 60% or chrome consuming 118% of CPU). Working with the laptop is almost impossible due to very slow processing. Clicking "applications" in panel takes 1 second to appear. During the above state - as soon as I disconnect my power adapter, CPU usage drops to less than 10%, and system becomes super smooth and quick again. Also, when the battery gets completely charged, laptop (kindof) stops lagging much. Also, I took my battery out of my laptop, and powered it directly via AC adapter, and system was super smooth. My laptop is dual-boot (despite my hatred for Windows), and I have tested battery charging on Windows. THere is NO LAG AT ALL ! This confirms that there is no hardware fault, as windows is quick and fast during battery charging. The state of the system is confirmed - means I can recreate the problem almost every time. I have tried "top" to see processes and how they look, but no "strange" process is there for one to be able to kill. Its essentially the same processes that start hogging my CPU completely (chrome, nautilus, gnome-panel, just-any-running-process ) I have also tried another brand new charger from Lenovo - but same problem there. Public bug reported: When I do a drag operation (tap followed by a continuous pointing motion) and my finger reaches the edge of the trackpad, the cursor jumps to the screen edge. Since the cursor normally moves relative to the movement on the trackpad, it should still be somewhere in the center area of the screen but not at the screen border. This could be connected to the option to continue cursor motion slowly (!=jump) when the finger hits the trackpad border, however I couldn't find this option anymore in the control panel. Thanks for the speedy reply. It appears, based on comment 2, that this is indeed not window manager-based but rather a problem with the ATI drivers. I'm going to go ahead and reassign. Same problem with the lice CD, same problem with Kubuntu. The performance is very bad with Unity 3D and Kwin with desktop effects, to the point where using the desktop is not possible. Using Unity 2D or KWin without effects makes the desktop usable, just slow. When brightness is at the highest level, the default precise background becomes too white and really unpleasant. If I disable fglrx, the higher brightness is perfect. I thought the "Mail" hotkey would be locked, but it's not the case, since evtest doesn't show up events for this key when it happens. The bug still occurs to me with mesa 8.0.1-0ubuntu5. Really? I mentioned I ge the same problem with both nouveau and the nvidia proprietary drivers, and this gets reassigned to just xserver- xorg-video-nouveau?
