[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 960005] Re: Intel GPU lockup on laptop suspend

2012-03-22 Thread Michael
Happened just now (I presume the same hang, though I can't prove it)
without the invalid framebuffer id line in dmesg, and when I switched to
a VT and back the VT text stayed visible (i.e. the screen was not
cleared), but the X server mouse pointer was shown on top.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 962773] [NEW] Xorg freezes when a player plays a video

2012-03-22 Thread realmagnum
Public bug reported:

In Ubuntu 11.10, I could disable "dri", so openchrome would play videos
(with a worse performance, but video would be playable).

In a fresh install of Ubuntu 12.04 beta 1 to a hard disk, after "sudo
apt-get update" and "sudo apt-get dist-upgrade" (today, 2012/03/23),
when I try to play video files like .wmv or .webm, my system immediately
freezes. If I start video minimized, it's possible to hear sound, but
when I call the player (with Alt + Tab) my system immediately freezes
again.

I think Bug #760743 won't help, because here we have a freeze and with
12.04 the system doesn't enable hardware acceleration {OpenGL renderer
string: Gallium 0.4 on llvmpipe (LLVM 0x300)}.

So, until now, in 12.04 beta 1, I was forced to use software rasterizer.
This would have to bring compatibility, but freezes persists and I have
a slower system than 11.10.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 962712] [NEW] Battery charging slows down my thinkpad severely

2012-03-22 Thread Syed Aamir
Public bug reported:

I have a ThinkPad L520 (7859-5BG) Core i5-2520M(2.5GHz) with 4GB RAM and
Ubuntu 11.10 32-bit install and with gnome classic (no effects)
environment

Condition:
When my battery is charging via power adapter, system is severely slow. This is
most often visible when just about every process takes very high CPU (e.g.
gnome-panel consuming 60% or chrome consuming 118% of CPU). Working with the
laptop is almost impossible due to very slow processing. Clicking
"applications" in panel takes 1 second to appear.

During the above state - as soon as I disconnect my power adapter, CPU
usage drops to less than 10%, and system becomes super smooth and quick
again. Also, when the battery gets completely charged, laptop (kindof)
stops lagging much. Also, I took my battery out of my laptop, and
powered it directly via AC adapter, and system was super smooth.

My laptop is dual-boot (despite my hatred for Windows), and I have tested
battery charging on Windows. THere is NO LAG AT ALL ! This confirms that
there is no hardware fault, as windows is quick and fast during battery
charging.

The state of the system is confirmed - means I can recreate the problem
almost every time. I have tried "top" to see processes and how they
look, but no "strange" process is there for one to be able to kill. Its
essentially the same processes that start hogging my CPU completely
(chrome, nautilus, gnome-panel, just-any-running-process )

I have also tried another brand new charger from Lenovo - but same
problem there.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 962704] [NEW] cursor jumps to screen border when touching trackpad border

2012-03-22 Thread Andreas E.
Public bug reported:

When I do a drag operation (tap followed by a continuous pointing
motion) and my finger reaches the edge of the trackpad, the cursor jumps
to the screen edge. Since the cursor normally moves relative to the
movement on the trackpad, it should still be somewhere in the center
area of the screen but not at the screen border.

This could be connected to the option to continue cursor motion slowly
(!=jump) when the finger hits the trackpad border, however I couldn't
find this option anymore in the control panel.

Examples where this bug appears:
moving an icon on the desktop, panning a map in the browser or Google Earth,
drawing a freehand line in Inkscape or Gimp

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 962601] Re: Login into unity shows nothing

2012-03-22 Thread Bilal Akhtar
It seems like an FGLRX issue to me, your LightdmDisplayLog.txt includes these
line:
(EE) Failed to load module "fglrx" (module does not exist, 0)
(II) [KMS] Kernel modesetting enabled.
 ddxSigGiveUp: Closing log

Does going to a terminal and re-installing fglrx help?

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 961124] Re: Choppy video playback

2012-03-22 Thread Chauncellor
Looking at your original description, though, you claim that Unity2D is
unaffected. If this is true then I'm guessing that either the driver is
having issues with compositors + hardcore video playback or that both
compiz or mutter are having the same issue.

** Description changed:

- Choppy video playback under Unity, but not Unity 2D with VLC and
- Mplayer. Tried different video outputs, but none of them fixed the
- problem. It looks like the video is running at about 20 fps, but both
- VLC and Mplayer doesn't show dropped frames. CPU usage is only 50%.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 961124] Re: Choppy video playback

2012-03-22 Thread Chauncellor
Thanks for the speedy reply. It appears, based on comment 2, that this
is indeed not window manager-based but rather a problem with the ATI
drivers. I'm going to go ahead and reassign.

Other possibilities are bad decoding libraries but I doubt it as you
tried with both Totem (gstreamer) and VLC (ffmpeg).

2012-03-22 Thread Brian Mastenbrook
Public bug reported:

xserver-xorg-video-vmware 11.99.901-0ubuntu1 was built with XA, which
enabled virtualized passthrough of 3D acceleration. In version 12.0.1-1
of the package, XA was not enabled, which resulted in 3D acceleration
being disabled. As a result I could no longer run the regular (Compiz)

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 851612] Re: Logging out from a FUS session does not reliably return to VT7

2012-03-22 Thread Bryce Harrington
Unsubscribing sponsors as per Martin Pitt's comment #21, as the patch is
not suitable for SRU.

However, I've gone ahead and fleshed out the SRU request in the
description. Hopefully that'll save a bit of work if/when a valid fix
does become available.

Shih-Yuan, thank you for your attention to this problem and for
proposing the patch.

** Description changed:

+ [Problem]
+ Logging out of a second user session results in a black screen with blinking
cursor, until you manually switch to vt7. Might also be caused when screen is
locked because of inactivity.
+
  [Impact]
-
+ Frequency of occurrence may be about 1 in 4. Not a hardware-specific
problem, so can be encountered by most users.

  [Development Fix]
-
+ Adding a VT_WAITACTIVE after the VT_ACTIVATE ioctl helps reduce the chance of
a race condition between LightDM, the kernel, ConsoleKit, and X, but is not a
complete solution. This change was introduced to Precise as of version
1.1.2-0ubuntu1 on Feb 10th.

  [Stable Fix]
-
+ The development change was not a complete fix. Thus the change is not valid
for SRUing.

  [Text Case]
-
- 1.
- 2.
- 3.
- Broken Behavior:
- Fixed Behavior:
+ 1. Have a multi-user system
+ 2. Start up and log in as a user
+ 3. Use the User Menu to switch to another user
+ 4. You will be at the Unity Greeter, log in as the second user
+ 5. The second user session will load
+ 6. Choose Log Out from the power/setting menu
+ 7. You will be at the Unity Greeter
+ 8. select and enter the password for the logged in user
+ Broken Behavior:
+ The screen turns black and shows a blinking cursor
+ Manually switching to VT7 shows the first user session, and works fine
+
+ Fixed Behavior:
+ Automatically returned to VT7 after entering the password for the first user

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 958553] Re: [gsdwacom]: gnome-settings-daemon crashed with SIGABRT in raise() when Wacom Bamboo Pen and Touch (CTH-460) is plugged in

2012-03-22 Thread Edward Donovan
I'm looking through the patches, of the versions that fixed crashes for
some users, at least as I get time. AFAICT, there are lots of changes
that could be relevant, and I haven't isolated what might be the key
bits, yet. If I can, I'll try to mimic them for my device.

** Description changed:

- I see several bug reports for g-s-d, for Wacom tablet-related crashes,
- an most are marked 'Fix Released'. But g-s-d still crashes
- consistently, if I try to plug the usb tablet in. Apport-retrace marked
- this a dupe of 934445, but that's closed, and I couldn't re-open it, so
- I'm un-duping this. I don't care which report it ends up in, I just
- want to mark it not fully fixed. Thanks.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 931122] Re: 3D performance is very bad

2012-03-22 Thread Oded Arbel
Same problem with the lice CD, same problem with Kubuntu.

The performance is very bad with Unity 3D and Kwin with desktop effects,
to the point where using the desktop is not possible. Using Unity 2D or
KWin without effects makes the desktop usable, just slow.

If you want me to run any sort of application to test and report, I can
do that at any point.

Is glxgears the only app you've tested with? It's not a benchmark, btw.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 962217] Re: Only black screen with mouse pointer on connected external screen to laptop, locks at unplugging

2012-03-22 Thread Marius Kotsbak
Enabling "Copy to Texture" (ref bug #830949) does not solve this
problem.

** Summary changed:

- Only black screen with mouse pointer on connected external screen to laptop
+ Only black screen with mouse pointer on connected external screen to laptop,
locks at unplugging

** Tags removed: has-workaround

** Description changed:

When I connect an external screen, only the mouse pointer is visible on
black background. A workaround is to press CTRL-ALT-F1 and then CTRL-
  ALT-F7.
+
+ When I then disconnect the cable, the internal laptop screen is stuck
+ with non movable mouse pointer and locks completely.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 907383] [NEW] Spontaneously eject from the session

2012-03-22 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
You have been subscribed to a public bug:

Sometimes, when running Ubuntu 11.10 spontaneously terminates the user
session. Fortunately, it only seems to happen once per boot-up - after
the first "spontaneous logout", it doesn't happen again within the re-
logged session, regardless of how many hours I use it. In previous
versions - 10.04, 10.10, 11.04 nothing like this has happened.

In /var/log/syslog takes place the following error: Gdk-WARNING: gnome-session:
Fatal IO error 11 (Resource temporarily unavailable) on X server: 0. # 012

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 961534] Re: enabling fglrx results to too much contrast

2012-03-22 Thread Fabio Marconi
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. This bug did not have a package associated with it, which
is important for ensuring that it gets looked at by the proper
developers. You can learn more about finding the right package at
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Bugs/FindRightPackage . I have classified this
bug as a bug in fglrx-installer.

When reporting bugs in the future please use apport by using 'ubuntu-
bug' and the name of the package affected. You can learn more about this
functionality at https://help.ubuntu.com/community/ReportingBugs.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 961534] [NEW] enabling fglrx results to too much contrast

2012-03-22 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
You have been subscribed to a public bug:

Hi,

When I enable the fglrx driver on precise beta1 amd64 running on my HP
Pavilion dm1, it results a higher brightness. When brightness is at the
highest level, the default precise background becomes too white and
really unpleasant. If I disable fglrx, the higher brightness is perfect.

Same behaviour with oneiric.

** Affects: fglrx-installer (Ubuntu)
 Importance: Undecided
 Status: New

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 884255] Re: [HP G62] System is non-responsive to mouse/touchpad clicks

2012-03-22 Thread Santiago M. Mola
** Package changed: xserver-xorg-input-synaptics (Ubuntu) => awesome
(Ubuntu)

** Changed in: awesome (Ubuntu)
   Status: New => Confirmed

** Summary changed:

- [HP G62] System is non-responsive to mouse/touchpad clicks
+ [awesome + nautilus] System is non-responsive to mouse/touchpad clicks

** Description changed:

+ UPDATE: This bug is triggered by the use of the awesome window manager
+ and nautilus. I have confirmed this in different hardware with similar
+ set up.
+
Sometimes, after an undefined amount of time using my HP G62 laptop,
system ignores clicks either from mouse or touchpad. Mouse/touchpad
movement still works, but not clicks.

There's also another problem that appears that Thunderbird keeps opening
repeatedly. I thought the "Mail" hotkey would be locked, but it's not
the case, since evtest doesn't show up events for this key when it
happens. I think both problems might be related.

-
I haven't had the chance to test yet:
  - evtest: Check if the click events are generated when this happens.
  - Check if the problem persists after disabling hotkeys.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 932900] Re: Unity freeze, crashes when trying to restart - intel_do_flush_locked failed: Input/output error

2012-03-22 Thread Giovanni Pardini
The bug still occurs to me with mesa 8.0.1-0ubuntu5.

Actually, on my system it is quite easy to make compiz crash, by just
starting chromium-browser and trying to use the WebGL version of google
maps.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 958439] Re: Doesn't detect monitor / "Unknown", causes flickering / low refresh rate

2012-03-22 Thread Darxus
Really? I mentioned I ge the same problem with both nouveau and the
nvidia proprietary drivers, and this gets reassigned to just xserver-
xorg-video-nouveau? I'll assume until told otherwise that bugbut is
just automated and didn't notice that part of the report until told
otherwise.
