[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 982133] [NEW] all level3 or nb3 nbsp options give only level4 nbsp

2012-04-15 Thread Dominique Meeùs
Public bug reported:

12.04
keyboard pc105, be, oss

I tried (with gnome-control-center) different options supposed to give
non break space on level 3 but if I get some non break space, it is on
level 4

For the moment, I read in gconf editor:
/desktop/gnome/peripherals/keyboard/kbd/options : nbsp nbsp:level3

The keyboad display shows nobreakspace on both level 3 and 4 !
I get a non break space only on level 4

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 982187] [NEW] direct start into XFCE window manager gets stuck

2012-04-15 Thread petroo
Public bug reported:

New Ubuntu 12.04 beta system installed as Gnome-based. XFCE environment
is preferred as Window manager, though.

When booting and logging in for the first time directly with XFCE
chosen, the desktop creation gets stuck as soon as the multiple virtual
screens should be shown in the respective sidebar. Only first screen is
displayed, and every opened window is placed in the top left corner,
without window manipulation handles. Leaving XFCE is only possible via
the kill key combination (Alt-Print-K).

If, after booting, a Gnome environment is chosen for the first login,
then left immediately, and then the 2nd login is an XFCE one, everything
seems to work alright. Once arrived in the working XFCE environment,
even frequent stand-by operation is working okay.

The detour via the first Gnome login seems to be an effective workaround
but is a real nuisance.

The difference appears to simply be that in the working setup all 4 fdi
lanes are used, whereas in the stripy broken setup, just 1 lane. This
suggests that we are running too close to the bandwidth limit on a
single lane.

On drm-intel-fixes, I've tweaked the fdi m/n calculation which may help,
but that uses the same computed number of lanes.

Can you first try that branch and then (if it still fails) apply this
tweak to print out the details of the computation and up the lane count
to 2 (increase to 3 and then 4 until the display is stable):

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 964067] Re: nvidia-current and nvidia-settings fails to install automatically

2012-04-15 Thread HugoHirsch
The problem didn't occur with the most current update.

I ran aptitude safe-upgrade and nvidia-current was marked as
upgradeable.

nvidia-current 295.33-0ubuntu1~oneiric~xup1 = 295.40-0ubuntu1~oneiric~xup1
nvidia-settings 295.33-0ubuntu1~oneiric~xup1 = 295.40-0ubuntu1~oneiric~xup1

nvidia-settings was upgraded transitively.

I'd like to leave this bug open until I successfully upgraded to 12.04.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 982251] [NEW] [gm45] False GPU lockup render.IPEHR: 0x01820000

2012-04-15 Thread Martin Albicker
Public bug reported:

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 982261] [NEW] package nvidia-current 195.36.24-0ubuntu1~10.04.2 failed to install/upgrade: nvidia-current kernel module failed to build

2012-04-15 Thread d0m
Public bug reported:

Hi
I have a Nvidia Geforce GT 440 graphics card I have been trying to get it to
work properly ( minimum graphics at the moment ). I have been downloading
nvidia drivers headers, via the package manager to see if any of these would
help. Then the download sign appeared in the panel, I clicked it to download,
after the download the error message appeared.
Have fun.

dpkg has absolutely nothing to do with this bug report. Reassigning to
xserver-xorg for lack of better option. What video card are you using ?

You should definitely attach some Xorg related logs.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 874237] Re: Emulate3Buttons option does not work anymore to enable emulation of a middle button

2012-04-15 Thread walt
For future googlers: dconf-editor is an easier way to set the (very
stupid) gnome middle-button setting.

Run dconf-editor from a command prompt and navigate to org::gnome
::settings-daemon::mouse. You should see the middle-button-enabled
checkbox in the right-hand panel.

You should find this 'feature' documented in, um, well, I have NFI where
you should find this documented.

This bug report saved me a lot of time, thanks.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 982113] [NEW] Monitor connected via HDMI stays black

2012-04-15 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
You have been subscribed to a public bug:

Hi

I tried the Ubuntu 12.04-beta2 LiveCD and decided to click on install
and after reboot I have only a black screen (Monitor shows: No Signal)
but the system is up as I can ssh into the box and reboot/shutdown it
remote. I have tried even a daily build but the same result no working
monitor setup

CD image used: http://cdimages.ubuntu.com/daily-live/current/precise-
desktop-amd64.iso

Monitor is a 24 with 2 HDMI Ports

connected to a Video Card with NVidia 9600 chip (HDMI Port)

I have tried also nomodeset but this change nothing. After that I
tried openSUSE 12.1 and it works with it's standard driver nouveau so
it seems an Ubuntu problem as Windows 7 works too with windows drivers
(NVidia get not used on this box).

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 982471] [NEW] System crashes after starting OpenBVE

2012-04-15 Thread Alexander Feld
Public bug reported:

After starting a new game in OpenBVE, the screen goes back and I have to
reboot. I am using the xserver-xorg-video-intel driver and (according to
lspci) a Intel Corporation Mobile GM965/GL960 graphics chip. The error
is reproducable, because it occurs everytime I start the game. I am
using Ubuntu 12.04. If you need any further information, just ask me.
Thanks!

** Description changed:

- (NVidia get not used on this box).

Here too. Apart from the problems at startup (problems before the login
screen), also check the same as Eslam Abd El-Ghany, so Unity 2D works
here with nvidia driver 295.40.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 954661] Re: backlight brightness not adjustable by default on Dell XPS 13

2012-04-15 Thread Kamal Mostafa
I've written a patch which provides a new kernel boot param
i915.enable_backlight=0.

i915.enable_backlight=0 can be used to disable i915 backlight control
and the /sys/class/backlight/intel_backlight interface -- useful for
systems where intel_backight conflicts with BIOS backlight control.

An Ubuntu Precise PPA kernel with the patch applied is here:
https://launchpad.net/~kamalmostafa/+archive/i915-enable-backlight

Mario/others, please apply the PPA kernel, then boot with
i915.enable_backlight=0. This should resolve the problem (it does on
my XPS13). Please confirm.

** Patch added: i915-enable-backlight.patch

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 982508] [NEW] USB mouse at docking station ceases to work after screensaver goes active

2012-04-15 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
You have been subscribed to a public bug:

Leaving the computer alone for some time (like 1 hour) renders the USB
mouse attached to the docking station dysfunct. Touchpad continuously
works.

Unplugging the USB mouse shortly and re-plugging it again to the docking
station makes the mouse functional again.

Such an error was observed never before on this computer, so I expect
the new Ubuntu version to be the culprit.

2012-04-15 Thread Richard Brown
It seems to be happening to me on pretty much a daily basis now. And I
think it's always associated with Matlab in some way.

It could possibly be when I've launched Matlab with a different display
configuration than last time I launched it. I was using Matlab on my
laptop at home, and then when I launched it with my laptop docked with a
secondary display this morning, the lockup occured immediately. It
required a full reboot to resolve the issue, logging in and out was not
sufficient.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 946311]

2012-04-15 Thread Chris Wilson
I'm wondering if this is related to bug 44039. The issue would appear to
be that it is unable to find a free PLL (or the like) for the eDP after
it is turned off. eDP isn't limited to the first pipe, so it should be
happy to attach to the second CRTC, just a puzzle as to why it did not.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 946311]

2012-04-15 Thread Chris Wilson
http://cgit.freedesktop.org/~ickle/linux-2.6/log/?h=bug48652 will
provide the context you need to apply it. However Jesse mentioned that
the ux31e is a CPU eDP and so doesn't use a PCH PLL anyway (and in
theory not affected by the patch).

I tested the source from your link and it seems to be completely broken
for me. The kernel with latest commit: drm/i915: manage PCH PLLs
separately from pipes. will produce oops on the start. Se attached
dmesg. I also tryed to reset the source to HEAD~1, but this kernel will
start with black screen.

Hi Neon,

If you are running ubuntu 12.04 even if you are running gnome-shell, you
have compiz and unity installed.
To verify go to terminal, type the following two commands and note the
output.
unity --version ( that is unity (space) --(two dashes)version. You should
see the installed versions of unity and compiz.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 982710] [NEW] Nvidia 295.40 - Ubuntu 12.04 Beta 2 Fresh Install (slow performance in Unity 3D)

2012-04-15 Thread Charles Profitt
Public bug reported:

Summary:
This is a fresh install of Ubuntu 12.04 Beta 2 to test an issue that came up
after patching a 12.04 system. The system was upgraded from 11.10 and ran
without issue until 4-15 when the latest updates were applied.

On the advice of Sarvatt I ran ubuntu-bug nvidia-current to capture
these details.

I will also be patching this system and rerunning the testing.

Reports will also be sent to Nvidia.

Expected Behavior:
Unity 3D runs smoothly
3D Games run smoothly

Actual Behavior:
Unity 3D runs smoothly
3d Game run smoothly except when leaving the game... the desktop takes 15-20
seconds to redraw.
