For GPU lockup bugs with Intel graphics, you need to collect the output of 'dmesg' and your /sys/kernel/debug/dri/0/i915_error_state file. Both of these must be collected while the machine is locked up (e.g. by sshing into the sick machine over ethernet). [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 916568] Re: Multiple focus problems on first connexion
Ok thanks, that second video shows the problem quite clearly. It really does feel more like a window manager bug than X, however the fact that you find similar focus problems in both gnome shell and unity tends to suggest otherwise. I haven't seen other reports of this behavior (or, at least, not any that I can recall). Is there any chance it is something particular to your system configuration? Can you create a USB live image and boot that, and see if it reproduces? [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 983323] Re: [regression] Corrupted screen and sluggish performance after suspend with 295.40 drivers
This patch fixes the problem for me, although I suspect that it probably re-breaks CVE-2012-0946. Hard to tell with a closed source project. :( Anyway, I slipped in a printk to print the offending offset and size. On a GeForce 7300GT (~2006 iMac) it looks like something in the driver is trying to map 0x1000 0x1000 (which is explicitly checked by the IS_BLACKLISTED_REG_OFFSET macro). I have no idea what registers are in there, but for that system the ability to create the memory mapping is crucial to restarting graphics during resume. I wonder if this will fix the other people who can't even get Unity3d started, but that's pure speculation. ** CVE added: http://www.cve.mitre.org/cgi- bin/cvename.cgi?name=2012-0946 ** Patch added: revert-295.40-security-fix.patch https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/nvidia-graphics-drivers/+bug/983323/+attachment/3081741/+files/revert-295.40-security-fix.patch -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to nvidia-graphics-drivers in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/983323 Title: [regression] Corrupted screen and sluggish performance after suspend with 295.40 drivers To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/nvidia-graphics-drivers/+bug/983323/+subscriptions ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

Yes, the patch does re-break CVE-2012-0946. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 981168] Re: Regression: Installing apps causes a terrible visual glitch-- have to restart X.org.
i945 is not a driver, it's a chipset family. It does appear that all commenters on this bug have i945 chipsets. The correct command to run to check this is: $ lspci | grep VGA | grep 945 00:02.0 VGA compatible controller: Intel Corporation Mobile 945GSE Express Integrated Graphics Controller (rev 03) It may say 945GSE, or 82945, or etc. The key thing is that 945 is in there somewhere. I tested a i945 netbook, first with Ubuntu from about a week or so ago, then updated to current. Prior to the update I could not reproduce the bug. After the update I was able to reproduce it. There are three drivers for i945: One is the kernel driver named i915, one is a mesa driver , and one is the X driver name -intel. The kernel driver handles the hardware, the mesa driver does 3D acceleration, the X driver 2D acceleration. During this period, none of the three drivers have changed. mesa's last update was 27 Mar. xserver-xorg-video-intel was 15 Feb. The kernel has had some changes more recently but has been frozen in this time period. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xserver-xorg-video-intel in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/981168 Title: Regression: Installing apps causes a terrible visual glitch-- have to restart X.org. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 981168] Re: Regression: Installing apps causes a terrible visual glitch-- have to restart X.org.
@Jay, I can confirm that patching unity with your change seems to resolve the problem. USC reloads or flashes and seems to lose its position, so perhaps something is still imperfect, but the visual corruption is gone, and programs seem to install successfully. Jay, I can't tell in reviewing your patch if it's a true fix or a workaround. Is there any actual kernel or X.org changes needed for this issue, or is your unity fix going to be considered the solution? If more is needed on the X or kernel side, please reopen the X task and let us know more specifically whats needed. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 982251] Re: [gm45] False GPU lockup render.IPEHR: 0x01820000
Hello, I hope my description in english is good enought, that you can understood it. if i conect an external monitor, it is sometimes impossible to select all modis (clone, dualview, only laptop, only external monitor). And after i reconect the monitor, the default resolution of the laptop monitor, dont come back. Sometimes i get a resoltion of 4:3 instead of 16:10, and sometimes the screen persists black. So i musst restart the laptop, that the default resolution come back. An other Bug that don't associate with this bug is, that the mousepad freezes sometimes. To solve this i musst restart my laptop. My used Hardware is a Samsung x360 laptop. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xserver-xorg-video-intel in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/982251 Title: [gm45] False GPU lockup render.IPEHR: 0x0182 To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xserver-xorg-video-intel/+bug/982251/+subscriptions ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

Previously we had thought it was a conflict with vesafb but you can see from the logs that there are no other framebuffer drivers loaded. I'm wondering if it's something peculiar with his hardware, although we've seen reports like this from other various people too (I'll file a few others if they look interesting). The user's system (typically) does not lock up, but it is enough to trigger the apport crash handler, which displays a GPU lockup dialog to the user and prompts them to file a bug report. The main problem is that this makes it hard to distinguish and prioritize 'real' gpu lockups from these fake ones. I'd like to either figure out what is causing the fake gpu lockups and solve it, or identify a good reliable way of detecting that it's a fake gpu lockup and fix our crash detector to ignore them. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 982710] Re: Nvidia 295.40 - Ubuntu 12.04 Beta 2 Fresh Install (slow performance in Unity 3D, and EQ Overflow)
Nvidia is aware of the issue. http://www.nvnews.net/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=178460 We have been made aware of an interaction problem between the fix contained in the newest release any any card with a chip older than G80, inclusive. This includes the full GeForce 6 and 7 series as well as GeForce 8800GTX and first-gen 8800GTS. We are actively working on resolving this issue and will provide an update as soon as possible. The symptoms can include graphical corruption, performance issues, crashes and temporary hangs. The release should be perfectly safe to use with more recent cards than that; I'll update this thread ASAP. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to nvidia-graphics-drivers in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/982710 Title: Nvidia 295.40 - Ubuntu 12.04 Beta 2 Fresh Install (slow performance in Unity 3D, and EQ Overflow) To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/nvidia-graphics-drivers/+bug/982710/+subscriptions ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

Thank you Jay for the quick fix, and Didier for the quick upload. There are a few minor changes still needed in the branch (Gord pointed that out in the merge proposal), but otherwise the fix should work now. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 981168] Re: Regression: Installing apps causes a terrible visual glitch-- have to restart X.org.
Another thing, I haven't tried this out yet (I'm at school) but I can see this change in the branch: 56 - self-launcher_addrequest_special.emit(desktop_file, AbstractLauncherIcon::Ptr(), aptdaemon_task, icon, 57 - icon_x, icon_y, icon_size); If this line gets removed, it means the icon wouldn't fly anymore, and it won't get pinned either. I can't see it getting re-added. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 983636] Re: Xorg instantly SEGFAULT when plugging in a usb wireless hid
Thanks for the tip, but id did not solve my symptoms. (BTW I can live without this keyboard, but as it was working well a day ago with 11.10, it's probably some bug implemented since that revision, maybe affecting a few other guys when stable 1204 release happens. :) ) Using this: https://launchpad.net/~bryce/+archive/lp973297 (and update- upgrade-stop-start of course), the same sigsegv happens. - I've tried plugging the usb keyboard and usb mouse out, before plugging the donle in (with no effect) - I've tried to change the usb setting in my bios: Legacy usb support auto=Disable (the sigsegv still happens) After this bios tweak I see this in my logs: Apr 17 15:02:21 devroot kernel: [ 3107.542787] topseed 0003:04F2:0618.0007: can't reset device, :00:1d.7-2.3/input0, status -71 Apr 17 15:02:21 devroot kernel: [ 3107.557407] topseed 0003:04F2:0618.0008: can't reset device, :00:1d.7-2.3/input1, status -71 Apr 17 15:02:21 devroot kernel: [ 3107.571779] topseed 0003:04F2:0618.0007: can't reset device, :00:1d.7-2.3/input0, status -71 Apr 17 15:02:21 devroot kernel: [ 3107.586151] topseed 0003:04F2:0618.0008: can't reset device, :00:1d.7-2.3/input1, status -71 Apr 17 15:02:21 devroot kernel: [ 3107.600398] topseed 0003:04F2:0618.0007: can't reset device, :00:1d.7-2.3/input0, status -71 Apr 17 15:02:21 devroot kernel: [ 3107.614523] topseed 0003:04F2:0618.0008: can't reset device, :00:1d.7-2.3/input1, status -71 Apr 17 15:02:21 devroot kernel: [ 3107.625244] usb 1-2.3: USB disconnect, device number 8 Apr 17 15:02:21 devroot kernel: [ 3107.628751] topseed 0003:04F2:0618.0007: can't reset device, :00:1d.7-2.3/input0, status -71 So propbably legacy usb support isn't that bad for a keyboard. :) (If it's too slow, i'll have to use bzcat a.out instead of cat a.out as I do now. :))) ) ** Attachment added: xorg log of crash https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xorg/+bug/983636/+attachment/3083538/+files/Xorg.0.log.old -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xorg in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/983636 Title: Xorg instantly SEGFAULT when plugging in a usb wireless hid To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xorg/+bug/983636/+subscriptions ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 983581] Re: null reference error at shutdown/logoff
Ok I downloaded and installed the appropriate driver from AMD: md5: 7c7b82f0d87a7ce9ee816b7d77212faa amd-driver-installer-12-3-x86.x86_64.run sha1: f62146ed5653ce81dca578e0252c7f32d55627be amd-driver-installer-12-3-x86.x86_64.run I've since discovered that this is not the recommended way to do things on ubuntu, so acting on your advice I removed this with the uninstall shell script in the /usr/share/ati folder. I then tried to install the update fglrx package from jockey. This failed, log attached in next comment (it will be the first of two installs in that log file.) I then just on a whim tried the regular non-update fglrx from the jockey UI. It worked. I rebooted. No error. I changed to dual displays again, rebooted a few more times, still no error. So from my point of view this is resolved. Why it got messed up when installing from the amd installer, I have no idea, or why the update driver couldn't be installed from jockey I don't know. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 982485] Re: nvidia 295.40 breaks unity 3d
Hi Alvaro, Apologies if it was unclear, since my little laptopbox is incapable of Hires movies, I never considered or came across it. For some reason with Gnome3/XFCE/KDE installed on my lappy the dm was causing me issues and I couldnt get to a terminal yet with lightdm installed even when unity flipped out, at least I could with that I am just applying todays patches which include some unity stuff so I am hoping this fixes the problem, right now the main problem I noticed since posting is that the window manager is there but not visible, and compiz is taking control of the window manager somehow as if I hold down alt-leftmouse I can move the windows about, alt-tab cycles through etc etc Will report back as soon as I know more. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to nvidia-graphics-drivers in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/982485 Title: nvidia 295.40 breaks unity 3d To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/unity/+bug/982485/+subscriptions ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp
