[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 939434] Re: Xnest and Xephyr stopped working after recent update (corrupted mem)

2012-04-28 Thread John Stultz
Seeing the same thing here too. Upgraded a virtual-machine to 12.04, and
now when I try to connect to it from an 11.10 system via XDMCP I get the
same crash

$sudo Xnest :2 -query work-vm.local

[dix] Could not init font path element /usr/share/fonts/X11/cyrillic, removing

Its interesting that the crash happens on 11.10, the only thing that
chaged is the xdmcp server was upgraded to 12.04. Connecting to a 11.10
machine works fine.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 987007] Re: Upgrade from 11.10 to 12.4beta2 not possible with fglrx installed

2012-04-28 Thread Andreas Siegert
Well, the difference between update-amanger refusing the upgrade and running
through was disabling the fglrx binary driver.
The PPA that had the driver you see in the logs was never used to install the
fglrx driver. The non canonical PPAs where my first guess of course, so I
disabled them all and tried to run the upgrade again, leading to the same error
message. That's when I started took into the jockey logs and discovered the
messages about fglrx which gave me the idea to disable the AI driver.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 990904] [NEW] Dual monitor problem after upgrade to 12.04

2012-04-28 Thread Alexandros K
Public bug reported:

The issue started immediately after upgrading to 12.04.
I use a Toshiba Satellite A100-906 with LG W1934S as an external monitor.
When I disconnect the external monitor, the mouse pointer gets stuck at the
vertical side edge of the notebook's display, only moving vertically. Moreover,
when I try to switch to the virtual consoles, instead of consoles. blank
screens appear.
This does not happen when the external monitor is connected.
I use the same xorg.conf with 11.10. It occurs with lightdm, lxdm and kdm.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 949641] Re: Installing both fglrx and fglrx-updates results in: error exit status 1 -"/etc/init.d/atieventsd exists during rc.d purge"

2012-04-28 Thread Savvas Radevic
In one of the duplicates the workaround was mentioned:

sudo /usr/sbin/update-rc.d -f atieventsd remove
sudo dpkg --purge fglrx-amdccle
sudo dpkg --purge fglrx
sudo dpkg --purge fglrx-updates
sudo apt-get install fglrx fglrx-amdccle

I tried to update the bug description but it times out for some reason.

The attached patch stops the crash with the 3.2.16 kernel, so it should
work with the Ubuntu 3.2 kernel as well.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 990882] [NEW] Xorg freeze

2012-04-28 Thread Greg Stovall
Public bug reported:

Fresh install of 12.04 on a machine running with i3-2105, using HD3000
graphics. I have done the fresh install several times, with the same
behavior each time.

Unity was rock solid on 11.10, but crashes pretty easily with 12.04.
i915 driver crashes a lot, flickering screen. When unity dies,
everything but the open windows disappears. The foreground window can
continue to be used, but no other window is selectable.

I'll have to reload 11.10 pretty soon; I can't keep my primary personal
machine in this state.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 921236] Re: [12.04 Xorg, xserver 1.11.3] Dual monitor, after entering password, mouse pointer stuck on LHS of screen, no desktop.

2012-04-28 Thread doowt...@gmail.com
I was suffering from this bug after an upgrade to 12.04. By downgrading
to version xserver-xorg-input-evdev 1:2.6.99.901-1ubuntu3~lp921236
(which I pulled from here
https://launchpad.net/~sarvatt/+archive/sru1/+build/3118994) the issue
is fixed.

That is expected, though, because as comment #5 points out, the bug was
fixed quickly with that version. However, version 1:2.7.0-0ubuntu1,
which is what's, shipping causes the same behavior and same error
messages originally reported.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 975689] Re: X freezes completely running google earth on xserver-xorg-video-intel - IPEHR: 0x7a000002

2012-04-28 Thread Rocko
It looks like this is a kernel issue rather than a xserver issue, as
kernel commit 3a69ddd6f872180b6f61fda87152b37202118fbc fixes the problem
for me:

commit 3a69ddd6f872180b6f61fda87152b37202118fbc
Author: Kenneth Graunke
Date: Fri Apr 27 12:44:41 2012 -0700

drm/i915: Set the Stencil Cache eviction policy to non-LRA mode.

Clearing bit 5 of CACHE_MODE_0 is necessary to prevent GPU hangs in
OpenGL programs such as Google MapsGL, Google Earth, and gzdoom when
using separate stencil buffers. Without it, the GPU tries to use the
LRA eviction policy, which isn't supported. This was supposed to be off
by default, but seems to be on for many machines.

This cannot be done in gen6_init_clock_gating with most of the other
workaround bits; the render ring needs to exist. Otherwise, the
register write gets dropped on the floor (one printk will show it
changed, but a second printk immediately following shows the value
reverts to the old one).

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 982710] Re: [regression] Nvidia 295.40 driver is extremely slow

2012-04-28 Thread D McC
Nvidia 295.20 seems to work a lot better than 295.40.

Xubuntu 12.04 AMD 32-bit GEForce 6150SE

If you go to Settings Manager -> Screensaver and choose Blocktube, you
see it moves quickly and smoothly in 295.20. In 295.40 it is jumpy and
changes about once per second.

So I think 295.20 is probably as good or better than 173.14 (which is
not compatible with Ubuntu 12.04).

Yeah, it's definitely not just Noveau, have the same problem on Sandy

manages to recover, and system is fine if you just close the tab or even
leave it open but change to another tab.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 990767] [NEW] [drm:i915_hangcheck_elapsed] in 12.04

2012-04-28 Thread Tero Kuusela
Public bug reported:

After upgrading to 12.04, my system goes unusable after a few minutes of
usage with Unity and seemingly randomly blinks to black screen and back
with Unity 2D.

At times the system won't respond to mouse or keyboard after such a
blink in Unity 2D, but this is fixed after one or two more blinks. Once
the blinking starts, it usually lasts for a while and can then stop for
a long time.

With Unity, I can at times only move the mouse cursor, but clicking
accomplishes nothing and keyboard is unresponsive. All I can do is use
the reset button to reboot. There can be some graphical glitches just
before this state or not. At other times, all unity bars and window
decorations disappear, but the programs I have open in the current
workspace are still responsive.

I tried the xorg-edgers ppa, it didn't help.

The symptoms are pretty varied, but they would seem to have the errors
found in kern.log in common. First of the attached i915_error_states is
from a situation when the window decorations disappeared, the second is
from right now when using Unity 2D and the screen blinked some time ago.
The Xorg.0.log is also from the current state.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 940924] Re: Keyboard Layout "German (qwerty)" missing since 12.04

2012-04-28 Thread Shake
By the way:
Setting the layout is possible by calling:

setxkbmap -layout de -variant us

But this layout is *not* the same as the old German (qwerty). de(us) uses the
US mapping and just adds some additional characters (e.g. umlauts) at the third
level.
German (qwerty) used to just switch "y" and "z" on the German keyboard

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 940924] Re: Keyboard Layout "German (qwerty)" missing since 12.04

2012-04-28 Thread Shake
1. The upgrade does not work automatically yet.
That means that the German (qwerty) is not converted to another keyboard. The
layout dialog still shows "German". You have to remove that entry and add a new
one to get the layout back...

2. I could not find an option for "German (us)" or anything like that
within the keyboard layout dialog...

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 322163] Re: no reasonable way of adding custom keyboard layouts

2012-04-28 Thread Full name
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 297428 ***
https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/297428

This bug is not duplicate: main point of this bug is, that there is no easy way
how to add custom keyboar layout and keep it during Ubuntu upgrading.
I've just upgradet my Ubuntu (Xubuntu) and I have to set up my custom keyboard
layout - agin. This is one of small things which takes frustration from
Ubuntu/Linux using.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 990492] Re: Not detect the monitor or graphics card Ubuntu 12.04 LTS 64Bit

2012-04-28 Thread Eduardo
The reason I send the bug is that I do not understand why the system does not
recognize my monitor and my graphics card.
Sorry, my English is quite poor, I am the Spanish Canary Islands :)

Thanks for worrying about this problem. Regards

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 990712] [NEW] Random xorg crashes

2012-04-28 Thread Travis Pew
Public bug reported:

I've been getting multiple random X crashes throughout the day and am
getting dumped back to the login screen. I am on Ubuntu 12.04. I have
an nvidia card -- I was first using the nvidia_current drivers that are
present in the Ubuntu repositories, but am now trying the x-swap Nvidia
drivers (version 295+), but it hasn't seemed to make a different. This
is happening around once every one to two hours.

No obvious activity is related to the crash. Sometimes it happens while
web browsing. It last happened when I hit the next button in a music
player. It's also happened while editing text in VIM. Someone mentioned
to me that it may be related to flash, so I currently have flash
uninstalled, but it makes no difference.

2012-04-28 Thread Dan Pearson
I need to use the Nvidia 173 driver,I had it working and then upgraded
to 12.04 .Waiting for a fix, don't feel like downgrading is a good
idea,I can only run the 2d unity and things are slow,a fix would be
nice.

2012-04-28 Thread swiftone
The original USB drive I used to install 12.04 was created on Lucid, and
did not work well on my system. However, it did work on another laptop
I have. (the initial load screen did not work and I still only saw the
grey rectangle in the lower left corner, but the Ubuntu screen and
afterwards worked fine.)

After installing on the second laptop I created a new USB drive from
that system. (This was creating a boot USB drive using 12.04.) Then
using that new USB drive I had a different experience.

Upon booting the Dell 1720 with the new USB drive the initial boot
screen came up and I continued to boot up as a LiveCD. The Ubuntu
screen came up fine, and then the prompt came up asking if I wanted to
Install or Try. I chose Try, and then the screen went into black and
white stripes with a garbled mess. So the Try option did not work.

Second try I selected "Install from the boot screen and the install
process went fine. I now have a fully functional running 12.04 OS on the
Dell 1720, even though the LiveCD option would only display garbled
graphics.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 983353] Re: 12.04 does not allow multiple monitor setup

2012-04-28 Thread hackvan
I'm not sure what changed, but un-mirrored displays are now working on
my old notebook.

I'm not entirely sure what made the change.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 976383] Re: Periodic lockups or crashes

2012-04-28 Thread Matthew General
After official release, bug still prevalent. Gnome classic no effects offers
most stable experience. Gnome shell is most volatile and unity 3d still
affected.
Gnome-shell locked up on me this morning, almost immediately. I had to hard
reset.
Unity 3d crashes the session, forcing me to log back in.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 982485] Re: [regression] Nvidia 295.40: Unity 3D does not work at all with the new nvidia driver

2012-04-28 Thread msincan
applying steps described at : https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source
/nvidia-graphics-drivers/+bug/982485/comments/24 solved my problem.
Reverting back to 295.33 from 925.40 solves the problem.
