[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 987007] Re: Upgrade from 11.10 to 12.4beta2 not possible with fglrx installed
Well, the difference between update-amanger refusing the upgrade and running through was disabling the fglrx binary driver. The PPA that had the driver you see in the logs was never used to install the fglrx driver. The non canonical PPAs where my first guess of course, so I disabled them all and tried to run the upgrade again, leading to the same error message. That's when I started took into the jockey logs and discovered the messages about fglrx which gave me the idea to disable the AI driver. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to fglrx-installer in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/987007 Title: Upgrade from 11.10 to 12.4beta2 not possible with fglrx installed To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu-release-notes/+bug/987007/+subscriptions ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 990904] [NEW] Dual monitor problem after upgrade to 12.04
Public bug reported: The issue started immediately after upgrading to 12.04. I use a Toshiba Satellite A100-906 with LG W1934S as an external monitor. When I disconnect the external monitor, the mouse pointer gets stuck at the vertical side edge of the notebook's display, only moving vertically. Moreover, when I try to switch to the virtual consoles, instead of consoles. blank screens appear. This does not happen when the external monitor is connected. I use the same xorg.conf with 11.10. It occurs with lightdm, lxdm and kdm. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 975689] Re: X freezes completely running google earth on xserver-xorg-video-intel - IPEHR: 0x7a000002
It looks like this is a kernel issue rather than a xserver issue, as kernel commit 3a69ddd6f872180b6f61fda87152b37202118fbc fixes the problem for me: commit 3a69ddd6f872180b6f61fda87152b37202118fbc Author: Kenneth Graunke Date: Fri Apr 27 12:44:41 2012 -0700 drm/i915: Set the Stencil Cache eviction policy to non-LRA mode. Clearing bit 5 of CACHE_MODE_0 is necessary to prevent GPU hangs in OpenGL programs such as Google MapsGL, Google Earth, and gzdoom when using separate stencil buffers. Without it, the GPU tries to use the LRA eviction policy, which isn't supported. This was supposed to be off by default, but seems to be on for many machines. This cannot be done in gen6_init_clock_gating with most of the other workaround bits; the render ring needs to exist. Otherwise, the register write gets dropped on the floor (one printk will show it changed, but a second printk immediately following shows the value reverts to the old one). [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 982710] Re: [regression] Nvidia 295.40 driver is extremely slow
Nvidia 295.20 seems to work a lot better than 295.40. Xubuntu 12.04 AMD 32-bit GEForce 6150SE If you go to Settings Manager -> Screensaver and choose Blocktube, you see it moves quickly and smoothly in 295.20. In 295.40 it is jumpy and changes about once per second. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 990767] [NEW] [drm:i915_hangcheck_elapsed] in 12.04
Public bug reported: After upgrading to 12.04, my system goes unusable after a few minutes of usage with Unity and seemingly randomly blinks to black screen and back with Unity 2D. At times the system won't respond to mouse or keyboard after such a blink in Unity 2D, but this is fixed after one or two more blinks. Once the blinking starts, it usually lasts for a while and can then stop for a long time. With Unity, I can at times only move the mouse cursor, but clicking accomplishes nothing and keyboard is unresponsive. All I can do is use the reset button to reboot. There can be some graphical glitches just before this state or not. At other times, all unity bars and window decorations disappear, but the programs I have open in the current workspace are still responsive. I tried the xorg-edgers ppa, it didn't help. The symptoms are pretty varied, but they would seem to have the errors found in kern.log in common. First of the attached i915_error_states is from a situation when the window decorations disappeared, the second is from right now when using Unity 2D and the screen blinked some time ago. The Xorg.0.log is also from the current state. uname -a - Linux 3.2.0-24-generic #37-Ubuntu SMP Wed Apr 25 08:43:22 UTC 2012 x86_64 x86_64 x86_64 GNU/Linux /var/log/kern.log: -- Apr 28 23:11:43 kernel: [ 51.016664] [ cut here ] Apr 28 23:11:43 kernel: [ 51.016672] WARNING: at /build/buildd/linux-3.2.0/drivers/gpu/drm/i915/i915_drv.c:413 __gen6_gt_wait_for_fifo+0x94/0xa0 [i915]() Apr 28 23:11:43 kernel: [ 51.016673] Hardware name: To Be Filled By O.E.M. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 940924] Re: Keyboard Layout "German (qwerty)" missing since 12.04
1. The upgrade does not work automatically yet. That means that the German (qwerty) is not converted to another keyboard. The layout dialog still shows "German". [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 990712] [NEW] Random xorg crashes
Public bug reported: I've been getting multiple random X crashes throughout the day and am getting dumped back to the login screen. I am on Ubuntu 12.04. I have an nvidia card -- I was first using the nvidia_current drivers that are present in the Ubuntu repositories, but am now trying the x-swap Nvidia drivers (version 295+), but it hasn't seemed to make a different. This is happening around once every one to two hours. No obvious activity is related to the crash. Sometimes it happens while web browsing. It last happened when I hit the next button in a music player. It's also happened while editing text in VIM. Someone mentioned to me that it may be related to flash, so I currently have flash uninstalled, but it makes no difference. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 989372] Re: 12.04 usb drive boot graphic problems
The original USB drive I used to install 12.04 was created on Lucid, and did not work well on my system. However, it did work on another laptop I have. (the initial load screen did not work and I still only saw the grey rectangle in the lower left corner, but the Ubuntu screen and afterwards worked fine.) After installing on the second laptop I created a new USB drive from that system. (This was creating a boot USB drive using 12.04.) Then using that new USB drive I had a different experience. Upon booting the Dell 1720 with the new USB drive the initial boot screen came up and I continued to boot up as a LiveCD. The Ubuntu screen came up fine, and then the prompt came up asking if I wanted to Install or Try. I chose Try, and then the screen went into black and white stripes with a garbled mess. So the Try option did not work. Second try I selected "Install from the boot screen and the install process went fine. I now have a fully functional running 12.04 OS on the Dell 1720, even though the LiveCD option would only display garbled graphics. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xorg in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/989372 Title: 12.04 usb drive boot graphic problems To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xorg/+bug/989372/+subscriptions ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp
