[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 987007] Re: Upgrade from 11.10 to 12.4beta2 not possible with fglrx installed

2012-04-29 Thread Andreas Siegert
Well, the difference between update-amanger refusing the upgrade and running
through was disabling the fglrx binary driver.
The PPA that had the driver you see in the logs was never used to install the
fglrx driver. The non canonical PPAs where my first guess of course, so I
disabled them all and tried to run the upgrade again, leading to the same error
message. That's when I started took into the jockey logs and discovered the
messages about fglrx which gave me the idea to disable the AI driver.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 939434] Re: Xnest and Xephyr stopped working after recent update (corrupted mem)

2012-04-29 Thread John Stultz
Seeing the same thing here too. Upgraded a virtual-machine to 12.04, and
now when I try to connect to it from an 11.10 system via XDMCP I get the
same crash

$sudo Xnest :2 -query work-vm.local

Its interesting that the crash happens on 11.10, the only thing that
chaged is the xdmcp server was upgraded to 12.04. Connecting to a 11.10
machine works fine.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 990934] [NEW] Everything slow since update

2012-04-29 Thread EricDHH
Public bug reported:

12.04 stable i386 on ibm thinkpad t42, updated from 11.10 on 03.28.12

xserver-xorg-v 1:6.14.99~git2

Since update all graphics is really really slow. The unity dashboard crawls
block by block over 3 seconds to fully open. The unity panel crawls slowly in.
Videos in firefox displays a 1 fps picture show. with floating waves through
the picture. Desktop window movement ist struggly like a picture show.
This laptop is on ubuntu since 8.04 and was through all releases fast in
graphics. Will try fglrx now

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 990882] Re: Xorg freeze

2012-04-29 Thread Bryce Harrington
For GPU lockup bugs with Intel graphics, you need to collect the output
of 'dmesg' and your /sys/kernel/debug/dri/0/i915_error_state file. Both
of these must be collected while the machine is locked up (e.g. by
sshing into the sick machine over ethernet). See
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/X/Troubleshooting/Freeze for additional info.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 990492] Re: Not detect the monitor or graphics card Ubuntu 12.04 LTS 64Bit

2012-04-29 Thread Bryce Harrington
The -nvidia driver does not support RANDR 1.2, which the stock display
configuration tool requires for detecting monitors and so on. That's
why monitors show up as unknown and resolutions are sometimes not found.
With -nvidia you have to use their nvidia-specific configuration tool.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 990977] [NEW] Xorg freeze

2012-04-29 Thread Tom Moorhouse
Public bug reported:

It was the proprietary nvidia drivers that were doing it (version
295.4). They don't like my GeForce 8400m g card one little bit). My
Ubunutu 12.04 installation was almost completely unusable: it was
running slowly and hanging / freezing frequently, especially when using
the ethernet (e.g. software centre or Firefox). After much frustrating
(because of the hangs/ constant hard power-downs) searching I found
this: http://www.nvnews.net/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=178460 and
uninstalled the proprietary drivers (I attempted to install the older
versions from Software Centre but apparently they aren't compatible).
Now running Ubuntu 2d but at least I haven't had a crash since!

error state file

When trying to play a DirectX game[0] via Wine (1.4~rc6, default setup),
I get GPU hangs that freeze X. As a non-gamer I don't know if there are
other games that produce those hangs, or if it's a DirectX/Wine thing.

dmesg shows the following:

[drm:i915_hangcheck_elapsed] *ERROR* Hangcheck timer elapsed... GPU hung
[drm] capturing error event; look for more information in
/debug/dri/0/i915_error_state
[drm:i915_wait_request] *ERROR* i915_wait_request returns -11 (awaiting 516043
at 516033, next 516044)

I'm attaching the error state file.

In an IRC conversation I vaguely remember it was suggested, that this
maybe only affects 'K' models of Intel Sandybridge CPUs (I'm using an
i5-2500K).

Initially, this produced hangs with the number 0x7b009004, but those
have recently been fixed (bug 42538).

This happens on Ubuntu 12.04 Beta+ with mesa from the xorg-edgers PPA
(8.0.1+git20120301+8.0.a3080987).

Setting severity to critical as that's what seems to be used for GPU
hangs.

[0]: Free game Ski Challenge 2012
http://www.skichallenge.at/en/download (~170MB), the config I use (Setup
→ Manual): http://img.xrmb2.net/images/974661.png - it hangs right when
starting a training run.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 990466] Re: Weird behaviour of touchscreen and system freezes after using xinput

2012-04-29 Thread C_Classic
** Description changed:

I have an Acer T231H touchscreen monitor connected to my notebook. To make
the touchscreen work properly I always used this command: xinput set-prop 'Acer
T231H' 'Coordinate Transformation Matrix' 0.545454 0 0 0 1 0 0 0 1
This should configure the touchscreen to be mapped only to my external screen.

But since the update to Ubuntu 12.04 LTS (fresh install) I get the following
errors after issuing the command:
  * The mouse jumps left and right between two points when I try to use the
touchscreen. (Even though one of the points is at the right location)
  * The whole desktop freezes after a few seconds of using the touchscreen.
(sudo /etc/init.d/lightdm restart recovers the system)

Do you need any additional information?

+ EDIT:
+ The problem also occurs when I use this command to map my touchscreen: xinput
map-to-crtc 'Acer T231H' HDMI1
+
+ Just some more information on the behaviour of the system after the command:
+ * You can still move the mouse.
+ * If you used map-to-crtc, the touchscreen works correctly now.
+ * But the system doesn't react to any clicks.
+ * Music keeps playing. (So the system itself isn't dead)
+ * You can use Ctrl+Alt+F1 to switch to a terminal.

On LUbuntu 12.04, the mouse pointer also jumps around after I used that
command. The only difference is that the system doesn't freeze.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 990882] Re: Xorg freeze

2012-04-29 Thread Greg Stovall
Thanks, Bryce. I'll try to gather that the next time it happens.

Now, its not really a freeze -- I selected that because it also
mentioned crash. When this happens, the screen flashes black a couple
of times, then a very short while afterward, unity goes away, leaving
only undecorated and unselectable windows behind. The top bar is gone,
the launcher bar is gone. Can still move cursor and can work in
foreground window, but can't access the other windows.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 772873] Re: Vino does not work with compositing

2012-04-29 Thread WangLu
@Nicolas Seguin
Yes, it also works for me. Thanks.

I think it's not vino's fault, but the compositing manager.

I'm using x11vnc as the vnc server, and here's a part of its message.

29/04/2012 21:14:17 XDAMAGE is not working well... misses: 166/216
29/04/2012 21:14:17 Maybe an OpenGL app like Beryl or Compiz is the problem?
29/04/2012 21:14:17 Use x11vnc -noxdamage or disable the Beryl/Compiz app.
29/04/2012 21:14:17 To disable this check and warning specify -xdamage twice.

So I connected to my machine with -noxdamage, enabled 'tear free' of my ATI
card.
Then I can connect without -noxdamage

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 990836] [NEW] Ubuntu 12.4 Desktop (32 bit) freezes after install on HP dv7-3183cl

2012-04-29 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
You have been subscribed to a public bug:

Ubuntu 12.4 Desktop (32 bit) freezes after install on HP dv7-3183cl.
The install media was booted from a USB drive. Live mode works fine and the
install finished successfully.
After boot, the boot menu is displayed, then the splash screen. After that the
screen flickers a few times and then remains blank. The keyboard gives no
response (no caps lock toggle or switching to other consoles).
I have tried to start the X server in recovery mode and it will not start.
I have re installing three times and the issue remains.
This laptop has nvidia GEFORCE with CUDA video.
Specs:
GeForce G105M
16 CUDA Cores
VBIOS Version 70.18.1f.00.2e
Memory: 512MB
Memory Interface: 64-bit

I have installed 11.10, and the machine works fine.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 991192] [NEW] Windows go blank when position is swapped

2012-04-29 Thread DonKaron
Public bug reported:

Just upgraded to 12.04 via clean install but preserving my old data
files. Now using Gnome fallback to preserve the desktop and work-flow
that I am familiar with. Also using Compiz, rotating cube enabled.

Here is the bug: when two windows overlap in a given desktop and I click
the partially covered one in order to bring it to the front the change
of position takes place but both windows go blank. If I minimize and
then restore the window the contents return to the display. If I click
again on the window that was originally on top that, too, restores the
display. If the windows do not overlap then there is no problem
switching between them.

This started yesterday with the upgrade. Don't now if it is a bug in
12.04 or Compiz or elsewhere. Hope this helps.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 772873] Re: Vino does not work with compositing

2012-04-29 Thread Josh
@WangLu As has been discussed in earlier comments this is not a
reasonable solution because the noxdamage increases bandwidth use and
processor/RAM use. Try using vino with noxdamage over a DSL connection
and you will see what I mean.

Work around:
system settings - additional drivers - remove all nvidia drivers in use

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 990357] Re: X randomly restarts

2012-04-29 Thread muhalifsirin
OK, I did my best to do what I am being told on
http://wiki.ubuntu.com/X/Backtracing.

You can see the attachment.

Note: I don't get the logouts anymore. X just stops responding. I have
installed Nvidia Proprietary drivers, then went back to Nouveau,
behaviour is same. System just freezes, and does not respond. But I can
connect through ssh and run commands.

Also I generated this log file on during my Nvidia proprietary driver
use (Not Nouveau). I was using Nouveau drivers for the previous gdb-

I don't know if it has any use, but I am attaching it.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 550625] Re: Alps touchpad is recognized but synaptics clients and scrolling do not work

2012-04-29 Thread Sesquipedalian Overtones
@Seth, thanks for the driver. Great job.

I have an HP Pavilion dm4-2075 running Ubuntu 11.10.

After installing version 0.10 of your driver (post #492), I got the
following results:

  + Two-finger vertical scrolling works

  + Two-finger horizontal scrolling works

  + Disabled while typing works

None of these worked before.

Once again, thanks. I was so impressed by the way this community works
that I finally decided to join. I have been using Ubuntu for over
5 years now, and I feel I should contribute to this great project
somehow. Don't know how yet, but I'll find a way.

I do not believe that they are related. in the case that you mention the cause
is that necessary dependences are not in the repositories.
Here we are speaking about a problem in the driver.
