[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 997095] [NEW] Computer with Radeon HD 6310 boots up to black screen with 12.04
You have been subscribed to a public bug: When installing 12.04 into an Acer Aspire laptop that has HD Radeon 6310, it boots to a black screen. The same is also true for Debian testing (as of about 1 week ago), OpenSuse12, and Fedora 15 and 16. (except when selecting basic graphics mode) In Ubuntu, it was not possible to select an installation mode which would not have booted to a black screen. It makes it impossible to install Ubuntu into the computer, because it makes it impossible to get an ip address to use ssh, or even install ssh, let alone install the driver from AMD. You guys should check to see what Fedora is doing differently that they have a basic graphics mode that works. Then after installation it is possible to install the driver and so forth. A bit of Googling shows that I am not alone in having problems with this video card in Linux. I thought it would be a good idea to report it here. ** Affects: xserver-xorg-video-vesa (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Tags: bot-comment -- Computer with Radeon HD 6310 boots up to black screen with 12.04 https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/997095 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xserver-xorg-video-vesa in Ubuntu. ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 965003] Re: dell mini 10v touchpad dragging stopped working
I have experienced the same behavior as Rick described in comment #7. Although minor I would still consider it a bug. The reasoning is that a hardware button press should always register as a mouse press event since it is intentional. This specific hardware has been troublesome over time giving users the habit of only pressing the button without touching the touchpad on top, thus the fingernail click. But It can also be that you are leaning your finger towards the edge and thus making a fingernail click a natural rollover. Anyway, as stated above, since it is a hardware button with tactile feedback it should always register as a click. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xserver-xorg-input-synaptics in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/965003 Title: dell mini 10v touchpad dragging stopped working To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xserver-xorg-input-synaptics/+bug/965003/+subscriptions ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 999493] [NEW] Intel graphics drivers 5x slower in Precise Pangolin
Public bug reported: I have a robotics application built on top of the OGRE3D rendering system that works fine on a wide range of machines running Lucid. When I switch to Precise, it runs so slowly on machines with Intel integrated graphics that it's unusable. But it's fine on machines that use non- Intel graphics (I tried a Dell Optiplex 755 with an ATI RV610 card, which under Precise uses the Gallium 0.4 driver.) I'm reporting this bug using an ASUS Eee PC 1015 netbook; with Precise it uses the Intel IGD driver. I'm seeing the same problem on a Lenovo Thinkpad X220, which uses the Intel Sandybridge Mobile driver. To try to quantify the performance hit, I ran glxgears on the ASUS. Under Lucid it reports 300 fps. Under Precise the same machine is getting 59 fps. That's a 5x slowdown. The Lenovo is getting 60 fps under Precise. One more piece of info: my application runs fine on the ASUS and Lenovo machines when I don't request off-screen rendering. If I'm only rendering to the display, I can pan and zoom around in my virtual world quickly and smoothly. But as soon as my robot client connects and starts requesting off-screen rendering (simulated images for the robot's camera), the performance falls apart and the application becomes unusable. If I kill the client, which disables off-screen rendering, performance returns to normal. When I choose keyboard language from GUI it seems to change, but it sticks to US. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 914773] Re: [radeon] Compiz memory leak and blank screen unable to login when using radeon driver
** Description changed: The issue appears to be that radeon's implementation of glXWaitVideoSyncSGI (from libgl1-mesa-glx) hangs and leaks X events while the screen is locked and asleep. The leak is around 200 bytes (one XEvent) per frame or about 12.5KB per second. It is most noticeable if some application is continuously redrawing during this time. But only if the application itself does not sync to vblank. For example: KVM, QEMU or: - env vblank_mode=0 glxgears + env vblank_mode=0 glxgears WORKAROUNDS: 1. Before leaving/locking the PC run ccsm, and in the OpenGL section disable Sync To VBlank. 2. Before leaving/locking the PC, minimize all active windows. - 3. Install fglrx driver from AMD/ATI. + 3. Install fglrx driver from AMD/ATI. But then you'll have bug 969860. ORIGINAL DESCRIPTION: There are two issues. Compiz has a memory leak so it expands to take up all memory plus swap (12 + 4 gig) Unity shows a blank screen and does not come up with a login prompt, only the mouse pointer is displayed. ctl+alt F1 works so you can get into a console and create the attached bug report. This was after killing vviewer and before restarting lightdm I was running KVM and vviewer as well and killed vviewer but still did not get get login screen Killed compiz which freed the memory still did not get login screen had to restart lightdm to get back into Unity and restart everything. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 973096] Re: Nvidia driver causes xorg crash
I have had success running ubuntu 2D to avoid this. However I finally got annoyed enough with other bugs in 2D that I switched to KDE, which runs like a champ (although the default fonts need to be replaced first thing after install.) So I suspect Unity/Compiz is doing something the nvidia driver does not expect, given that both 2D and KDE are stable with the same driver. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to nvidia-graphics-drivers in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/973096 Title: Nvidia driver causes xorg crash To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/nvidia-graphics-drivers/+bug/973096/+subscriptions ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

I have the same problem here on my Xubuntu Precise Pangolin. It was already present running Xubuntu Oneiric. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 968845] Re: bcm5974 touchpad doesn't work after S3 on MacBookAir
The latest precise-propsed packages are an improvement. I'm no longer seeing single clicks behaving like double-clicks after initiating S3 by closing the lid. I am however seeing the following behavior: If I depress the clickpad with one finger and tap a second finger at other various locations on the touchpad, the pointer will jump large distances. I'm only getting this after an S3 initiated by closing the lid, not 100% of the time but most of the time. I'm not normally a user of tap-to-click on this machine, but I've confirmed that I can reproduce the behavior described by Luke, whereby a single tap behaves like a double tap. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xorg-server in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/968845 Title: bcm5974 touchpad doesn't work after S3 on MacBookAir To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/xserver-xorg-input-synaptics/+bug/968845/+subscriptions ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 993187] Re: ubuntu 12.04 64bit completely freezes frequently
For those of you with TOTAL freeze and using ath9k driver for a wireless card I have been able to fix the problem. So, my case seemed to be really the wireless driver + the model in used, concretly an AR9287 as reported by lspci. The same exact looking card in another box reporting as AR9287 instead didn't give me the problem. And as for the the solution, as I found googling in the ath9k-devel mailing list someone suggested this modification to the driver source code that seemed to solve a very similar issue, in any case I tried seeing as the modification made a direct mention of the model I was using, so I downloaded the latest kernel 3.3.6 source, made the following modifications and I haven't gotten any more freezes: Try editing drivers/net/wireless/ath/ath9k/hw.c:__ath9k_hw_init(): if (ah-config.serialize_regmode == SER_REG_MODE_AUTO) { if (ah-hw_version.macVersion == AR_SREV_VERSION_5416_PCI || ((AR_SREV_9160(ah) || AR_SREV_9280(ah)) !ah-is_pciexpress)) { ah-config.serialize_regmode = SER_REG_MODE_ON; } else { ah-config.serialize_regmode = SER_REG_MODE_OFF; } } Change this: ((AR_SREV_9160(ah) || AR_SREV_9280(ah)) to ((AR_SREV_9160(ah) || AR_SREV_9287(ah) || AR_SREV_9280(ah)) .. so the PCI bus glue fix gets applied for AR9227 NICs. http://www.mail-archive.com/ath9k-devel@lists.ath9k.org/msg06902.html After this and using the new kernel I haven't gotten any freezes at all. Been with the same box under linux ubuntu since yesterday about 4-6 hours which is a record for me as I could never spend more than 15 minutes If I tried to download something or use the wireless. Thing that tipped me is that in a debian install I tried I always got the freeze right after starting to use the wireless card, so it seems in previous kernels the problem was easier to detect. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xorg in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/993187 Title: ubuntu 12.04 64bit completely freezes frequently To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xorg/+bug/993187/+subscriptions ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

I can barely use LibreOffice at all, as it usually causes a freeze within a few minutes of use. It's happening 'randomly' at other times too. Based on the criteria for High importance here: https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Bugs/Importance ...I'd classify this as severe impact on a small portion of Ubuntu users, and it affects an essential hardware component. I would say it also fits Renders essential features or functionality of the application or dependencies broken or ineffective, as it means I basically can't scroll in any LibreOffice application. So I'd say it fulfils 2-3 of the criteria on that list, and only one is needed. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 993187] Re: ubuntu 12.04 64bit completely freezes frequently
Ethernet controller: Atheros Communications Inc. AR242x / AR542x Wireless Network Adapter (PCI-Express) (rev 01) Network adaptor seems to play a role with this bug. Without the network controller activated my system seems stable, but as soon as a switch on my network my system reacts differently: when starting Firefox my mouse pointer freezes a couple of seconds, but it doesn't when my network controller is switched off. Screen flashes sometimes (with network off screen is normal) etc. Seems that the Atheros driver somehow interferes with Xorg and/or Compiz. Do others also have atheros network adaptors? [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 973096] Re: Nvidia driver causes xorg crash
@julienmbpe I'm using multiple monitors on a Quadro FX based laptop with a docking station, which does not work with nouveau. It was running perfectly fine before 12.04. This bugs basically makes my laptop, which is my daily workstation, useless and I'm piratically forced to reinstall my machine with a previous version of Ubuntu. It isn't reliable enough to work with it and I can't afford loosing work again. I've also tried using 295.40 and 302.07, both contain the same bug (assuming it's the nvidia driver). Still baffled that this bug isn't being addressed yet. There are 14 duplicate bug reports and almost 200 people are mentioning being affected by this bug and still nobody from Canonical, as far I can tell, is looking into this. Besides the trouble it's causing me, regular desktop people are ditching Ubuntu (and Linux) and give this potential great desktop a bad reputation which it cannot afford. You can't expect people who just want a working machine to hack into there system just because they upgraded to the newest version. Even if they tried to be save by using a LTS version for the sake of stability. The fact that the bug exists within a LTS release is questionable, but the fact it's not being addressed after a Month (Even before the actual release), even for a free OS, is regrettable. This really should be top priority not for my sake but the general acceptance of Linux as a great Windows and OS/X alternative. Canonical has taken this burden upon them and shouldn't let it slip. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to nvidia-graphics-drivers in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/973096 Title: Nvidia driver causes xorg crash To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/nvidia-graphics-drivers/+bug/973096/+subscriptions ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 973297] Re: Xorg recognizes Logitech Headset USB dongle as input device then segfaults in XIChangeDeviceProperty
Hi Dmitriy, Thanks for figuring that out! I can reproduce the crash here on my netbook. There is an ABI mismatch between xserver-xorg-input-evdev and xserver-xorg-core in the XIChangeDeviceProperty() function. The value parameter gets mangled between evdev and the server. It looks like this commit is related: http://cgit.freedesktop.org/xorg/xserver/commit/?id=ed8f3c4bd17bddf1369d050ea8e63b9451d887ce This was backported into the Precise xorg-server package in this commit: http://anonscm.debian.org/gitweb/?p=pkg-xorg/xserver/xorg- server.git;a=commitdiff;h=fe5444bfe3c7cc56cd8bddb32d2dc45b22431aea;hp=447156777040e0695391ecac709de3a857368a8d This was committed on January 10th and released in xorg-server 2:1.11.3-0ubuntu2 that same day. However, evdev was built on March 15th. The xserver-xorg-dev package used for the evdev build has an identical function signature to the current xorg-server package. However, when I do a rebuild of evdev against the current xorg-server, the result does not crash. The obvious fix is to upload a rebuild package to fix the ABI issue, but I have no idea what went wrong. ** Changed in: xorg-server (Ubuntu) Status: Incomplete = Invalid ** Changed in: xorg-server (Ubuntu Precise) Status: Incomplete = Triaged -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xorg-server in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/973297 Title: Xorg recognizes Logitech Headset USB dongle as input device then segfaults in XIChangeDeviceProperty To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xorg-server/+bug/973297/+subscriptions ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp
[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 630203] Re: Macintosh keyboard layout is wrong
I have the same issue as Alan, comment #37. UK Macintosh International keyboard. Everything works, except for the single/ double quote key. (That includes ` ~ § ± \ | € £ # (which is obtained via right alt key and backslash key, weirdly. Took ages to work that out for writing code.) For example, if I want to write 'The cat sat on the mat'. And I enter single quoteThe ... matsingle quote. I get: (on a new line for clarity, and I typed it exactly with the above keypresses) he mat That is, it does not recognise single quotes unless they are followed by a space press. If you do a double single quote press, rather than '' I get ´ So, something that looks like a forward quote. Very similar behaviour occurs using the double quotes. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 999984] [NEW] System returns randomly to login screen after updating nvidia driver to 295.49
Public bug reported: When I am using Unity or Gnome3 desktop environment and applications the system crashed (within 5 till 30 minutes) and returns to the login screen. When I am not active at the desktop / or desktop applications (but can be active by remote terminal sessions ) the system is stable. The problem exists since updating the nvidia driver to 295.49 (64 bit). Before that I had another nvidia bug (starting, stopping, and moving OpenGL application windows was very slow on Quadro FX 4600, Quadro FX 5600, GeForce 8800 GTX, GeForce 8800 GTS, and GeForce 8800 Ultra) that was fixed by the 295.49 driver, so I am not sure if the same problem was already since the nvidia 295.40 driver. My system was stable with the 295.33 driver (Ubuntu 11.10). My videocard is the Nvidia Quadro FX 4600. I also tryed to install a clean 12.04 on another harddisk, and updated to 295.49 driver, still the same problem. The attached collected debug information is from the harddisk with the updated ubuntu. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 982485] Re: [regression] Nvidia 295.40: Unity 3D does not work at all with the new nvidia driver
Hi, The upgrade to 295.49 has also not solved things for me. I am using a NVIDIA Geforce 7100 /nforce 630i and after installing the new drivers and logging in to Unity 3d I just get a blank screen and a cursor. GNOME 3 works although it is laggy. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to the bug report. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/982485 Title: [regression] Nvidia 295.40: Unity 3D does not work at all with the new nvidia driver To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/nvidia-drivers-ubuntu/+bug/982485/+subscriptions ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp
