[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1004363] [NEW] package fglrx (not installed) failed to install/upgrade: subprocess installed post-removal script returned error exit status 1
Public bug reported: I had installed fglrx-updates through Jockey, which crashed. I had then gone to command line and apt-get install fglrx-updates, which didn't crash. I then rebooted a couple of times and all seemed well. Then today, with no other changes having happened, Gnome Shell ceased up on boot, unresponsive to clicks or keyboard, and seemed to be also holding back wireless connections. fun. Re: [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1002972] [NEW] xterm moves to upper left when clicking titel bar
I can produce the problem by starting an xterm and clicking (or double clicking) the title bar. It moves one pixle to the upper left. Same xclock, and xfontsel, but not xfig, xpdf or any software built on gnome. Since I use a touchpad with separate mouse bottons, we can't blame a tremor for that. New since my recent upgrade to natty. ProblemType: Bug DistroRelease: Ubuntu 11.04 Package: xterm 268-1ubuntu1 ProcVersionSignature: Ubuntu 2.6.38-15.59-generic 2.6.38.8 Uname: Linux 2.6.38-15-generic x86_64 Architecture: amd64 CompizPlugins: [core, bailer, detection, composite, opengl, decor, regex, winrules, mousepoll, resize, gnomecompat, wall, compiztoolbox, animation, wobbly, extrawm, workarounds, place, vpswitch, imgpng, move, session, expo, ezoom, staticswitcher, ring, fade, scale] CompositorRunning: compiz I don't see the window manager mentioned (presuming it is the gnome bundled stuff). It's possible that you're exposing yet another bug in compiz. xterm patch #268 introduces a feature for toggling to full-screen mode, which I see is triggered in some configurations by the gnome window manager(*)). That's over a year old, by the way. #269 makes the feature configurable, e.g., the fullscreen resource. (*) this is a feature of the window manager, not xterm, and would normally be addressed by configuring the window manager... You should be able to verify if it is a compiz bug by temporarily disabling that aspect of your configuration. I think I am using compiz as my window manager (wobbly windows and stuff). When doing metacity --replace xterm does not move anymore when clicking the titel bar. This should not be a problem with xterm, because the same happens with other legacy X11-programs (xclock, xfontconfig). The simplest piece of software exhibiting the problem is xmessage. The issue must be with the interaction between one of the libraries xmessage binds and compiz $ ldd /usr/bin/xmessage | sort /lib64/ld-linux-x86-64.so.2 (0x7f9af4443000) libc.so.6 = /lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/libc.so.6 (0x7f9af387) libdl.so.2 = /lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/libdl.so.2 (0x7f9af29ef000) libICE.so.6 = /usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/libICE.so.6 (0x7f9af2e0f000) libSM.so.6 = /usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/libSM.so.6 (0x7f9af302b000) libuuid.so.1 = /lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/libuuid.so.1 (0x7f9af27e9000) libX11.so.6 = /usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/libX11.so.6 (0x7f9af3c05000) libXau.so.6 = /usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/libXau.so.6 (0x7f9af25e6000) libXaw.so.7 = /usr/lib/libXaw.so.7 (0x7f9af41a6000) libxcb.so.1 = /usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/libxcb.so.1 (0x7f9af2bf3000) libXdmcp.so.6 = /usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/libXdmcp.so.6 (0x7f9af23e) libXext.so.6 = /usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/libXext.so.6 (0x7f9af365e000) libXmu.so.6 = /usr/lib/libXmu.so.6 (0x7f9af3444000) libXpm.so.4 = /usr/lib/libXpm.so.4 (0x7f9af3233000) libXt.so.6 = /usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/libXt.so.6 (0x7f9af3f4) linux-vdso.so.1 = (0x7fff6d3ff000) Hope this helps. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xterm in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1002972 Title: xterm moves to upper left when clicking titel bar To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xterm/+bug/1002972/+subscriptions ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1004456] [NEW] Screen Controls are Crazy since a recent UpGrade, so a working DeskTop is now very difficult to achieve.
Public bug reported: Numerous Bugs are making the DeskTop crazy . 1) No minimise/maximise buttons available on any Screen. This is similar to bugs : - 124038 - 198392 - 188084 but not exactly the same. From this, for example, the Downloads display box cannot be removed so it covers the Start button permanantly - annoying ! 2) Screen Grabbing by Mouse only available at the location where the Buttons should be. So moving the Screens around only possible once I discovered this. Normally I can grab a screen anywhere in the top bar. 3) In Firefox, the PullDown Menus DO NOT work. The Shortcuts still work, fortunately. The PullDown Menu's open, but do not stay open for selection. Once the Mouse moves off them they disappear again. So cannot select any commands, in Firefox. In Software Center, for example, these still work. So this area of the Bug(s) is package specific. 4) Screens don't stack properly. When clicking on a top bar of a Screen it is NOT bought to the Top. So I have to move screens around by mouse grabbing (see 2) above) so I can work on them. * Soiund Bad ?? - Yes it is !! [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1004456] Re: Screen Controls are Crazy since a recent UpGrade, so a working DeskTop is now very difficult to achieve.
FURTHER NOTES 1) A clue about these Bugs is that UpGrades tend to reset Settings, in a big way. 2) For example, I went into Settings-DeskTop-Menus and turned off the : Windows-List-Menus option, by deselecting it. Now I can mouse-click-grab the screens right along the top bar. So point 2) in my original Bug Report is now remedied. 3) Further to point 3) in my original Bug Report, Pull-Down Munus don't work within Firefox windows, either : This includes Cut Paste actions. For example, in this Bug Report Firefox screen I cannot Cut Paste by mouse-highlighting and rightclicking, as is usual. This age-old screen feature is still working in other non-Firefox screens. * - All, for now ** -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xorg in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1004456 Title: Screen Controls are Crazy since a recent UpGrade, so a working DeskTop is now very difficult to achieve. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1002951] Re: keyboard input is ignored in X after a while
After rebooting I carried on using the USB keyboard, and after a while it suddenly stopped working. The PS/2 keyboard works fine. So it seems like the problem is 'first keyboard' stops taking input - nothing specific to USB. The machine was up for 1h 45m waiting at login prompt, then I used it for about 40 mins before the keyboard stopped working. staus info: xev just provides a MappingNotify event - no keypresses: MappingNotify event, serial 34, synthetic NO, window 0x0, request MappingKeyboard, first_keycode 8, count 248 $ xinput list ⎡ Virtual core pointer id=2[master pointer (3)] ⎜ ↳ Virtual core XTEST pointerid=4[slave pointer (2)] ⎜ ↳ Microsoft Microsoft 5-Button Mouse with IntelliEye(TM)id=9[slave pointer (2)] ⎣ Virtual core keyboard id=3[master keyboard (2)] ↳ Virtual core XTEST keyboard id=5[slave keyboard (3)] ↳ Power Button id=6[slave keyboard (3)] ↳ Power Button id=7[slave keyboard (3)] ↳ CHICONY USB NetVista Full Width Keyboard id=8[slave keyboard (3)] ↳ AT Translated Set 2 keyboard id=10 [slave keyboard (3)] $ dmesg | grep CHIC [1.983626] input: CHICONY USB NetVista Full Width Keyboard as /devices/pci:00/:00:1a.0/usb3/3-1/3-1:1.0/input/input3 $sudo evtest /dev/input/by-path/pci-\:00\:1a.0-usb-0\:1\:1.0-event- kbd shows key events on dead USB keyboard. So situation is exactly as before but the other keyboard has got 'jammed' instead. (I used the 'extra' keyboard for 2 full days with no further issues last time. We'll see what happens this time). [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 993187] Re: ubuntu 12.04 completely freezes frequently
I would like to add that it this hasn't happened once since I switched to Unity 2D last week (see #18). I agree with those who find it remarkable that the Ubuntu developers with their usually prompt bugfixes can leave a bug like this unassigned for this long. It must affect thousands of people since it must be a pretty small percantage who bother to post a bug report. I would also vote for changing the importance to Critical since this bug freezes the whole system and requires a hard reboot. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xorg in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/993187 Title: ubuntu 12.04 completely freezes frequently To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xorg/+bug/993187/+subscriptions ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 994203] Re: Xorg freeze with Nouveau drivers
I switched to the ATI/AMD proprietary FGLRX graphics driver, and I got just the same - freeze when using LibreOfficer writer (this time when selecting text). So perhaps this in an xorg bug, not just the nouveau drivers, or perhaps the same bug is in both drivers. Can we move this to High importance? In addition to the reasons described before, I for one am in the position where I have no alternative - the other drivers give the same result, and I cannot use LibreOffice for typically more than a few minutes without a full freeze that basically requires a reboot to fix. This is a very high impact bug! I'm going to have to try another distro before long, because I do need to use LibreOffice sometimes, and cannot do so at the moment. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xserver-xorg-video-nouveau in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/994203 Title: Xorg freeze with Nouveau drivers To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xserver-xorg-video-nouveau/+bug/994203/+subscriptions ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1004546] [NEW] Black screen at login after any ubuntu AMD radeon driver install
You have been subscribed to a public bug: Using a regular 2011 imac 21,5 with AMD radeon hd 6770m and ubuntu 12.04 mac specific 64bits; installing the 'additional drivers' non post update fglrx, be it with an updated system or not, results in a black screen at the next ubuntu login screen; ubuntu recovery failsafex cannot initiate ubuntu anymore saying ''no suitable screen were found'; only by just loadind ubuntu recovery and type reboot at recovery command line mode can I acess ubuntu partition once only, before having to repeat the process. In rare cases one must also type 'aticonfig --initial' to login once at ubuntu before it returning to the black screen state at the next boot. The only way to get out of the blackscreen for the procedures above is by rebooting the mac using its powerbutton. fglrx 'post-update' do not even install, being the system updated or not. AMD site radeon driver from the site does not work if an ubuntu specific package is generated(it also seems this is the package used by ubuntu); only the plain non ubuntu AMD driver install to Xorg truly works(no more black screens), the distorted ubuntu initial logo before login shows the driver was truly recognized(nvidia also distorts the logo when recognized), also the solution mentioned only works if you have a clean install of ubuntu(the home folder does not matter, no clean install of /home is needed) The ati driver package at ubuntu repository from software center seems to be the regular fglrx non post update, so, same results. The Ubuntu Open source driver works, but is slower even to get a login screen, also it is useless for true 3d graphics(like games) for my video card model(AMD radeon hd 6770m). For drivers which were 'tested by ubuntu developers' me and countless others expected more. I cannot test this right now, as to test this I should wreck my ubuntu desktop again; and my internet connection isn't restored yet(very low speeds); and the testing is a bit dangerous to my hardware I guess, as I got a very soft 'stain' at my screen, exactly where the ubuntu unity left dock use to stay(perfectly at the dock right limits) which persists though mac boot and my OS X system and which only appeared after the several video driver attempts above. ** Affects: fglrx-installer (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: Incomplete ** Tags: bot-comment -- Black screen at login after any ubuntu AMD radeon driver install https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1004546 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to fglrx-installer in Ubuntu. ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp
