[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 993187] Re: ubuntu 12.04 completely freezes frequently.
Not sure if that's a related problem (can't really afford reading all 276 comments). My Ubuntu 12.04 also freezes (completely, the cursor doesn't move). It only happens when running the system on battery. Always within several minutes from booting/switching of the AC adapter. On AC, it works just fine for days, without any freezes. My config: Sony F-series laptop, i5 CPU, Nvidia graphics + Nouveau drivers. Xfce 4.10 desktop. System upgraded from 11.04 and 11.10 (I started seeing these freezes a couple of months ago, whilst still on 11.10). -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xserver-xorg-video-intel in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/993187 Title: ubuntu 12.04 completely freezes frequently. Same here, nvidia card+nouveau driver. I can reproduce the error with: xrandr --output VGA-1 --above LVDS-1 most other xrandr commands work. (I have HDMI port here but it is not used at the moment, only laptop screen + external VGA) xrandr hangs, I can still ssh into the machine. I'm using Xfce 4.10. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 993187] Re: ubuntu 12.04 completely freezes frequently.
@pureblood: I wish I could answer your questions, but alas, I cannot. I can report that I enjoyed no crashes today. Two full days of no crashing is a welcome relief. But like many folks chiming in here, I am at a loss to understand the causes of these crashes, so I can't explain why 3.4.1 appears to be working well for me. I didn't know about the "drm.debug" option, so thanks for posting that, I might return to an earlier kernel, add the parameter, and see what my log produces. But from what I can tell by your log, nothing hang-related shows up: the last few lines appear regularly throught. An idea just occurred to me, and I'll mention it here for folks willing to experiment. Recent kernels are by default enabling RC6 power saving for Intel graphics. When first introduced, there were numerous reports of various sorts of problems. I see by looking at your log, RC6 is enabled. It might be worth disabling that function to see if makes the problem go away; do that with the boot parameter "i915.i915_enable_rc6=0". At this point, I feel like many of us are in guess-something-and-see-if- it-sticks mode. So in that vein, the truly adventuresome here might want to give the 3.5-rc1 kernel a try! -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xserver-xorg-video-intel in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/993187 Title: ubuntu 12.04 completely freezes frequently. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 763422] Re: [i965] idle black screen plus other issues Ubuntu 11.04
It's just happened again. I have some more info though. The text-input box, or rather, the cursor-changing behaviour - it's not the gnome-screensaver unlock box. It's actually my desktop. So as I move the mouse cursor across the black screen, the cursor is changing to a hand as it moves across web hyperlinks, and it's changing to a text-input cursor as it moves over text boxes, and a normal pointer the rest of the time. I went to a tty and killed the gnome-screensaver process, and this didn't change anything. it seems like when X should be calling up the gnome-screensaver as it comes out of sleep, it isn't doing, or it's not letting the gnome- screensaver take over like it should. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xserver-xorg-video-intel in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/763422 Title: [i965] idle black screen plus other issues Ubuntu 11.04 To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xserver-xorg-video-intel/+bug/763422/+subscriptions ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

@Michael (starkpc) #270: I tried that using Linux Mint 13 (based off Ubuntu) and it still froze three times in one day. I followed the tutorial in quidsup's video on YouTube after goofing up PCLinuxOS. After the last time LM13 froze, I decided, for compatibility's sake, to try LMDE instead of going back to PCLinuxOS. I should also re-mention that this is also happening to non-Sandy Bridge users, which I am one. I'm really, really unimpressed by how Canonical's bug-fix squad is not handling this. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 973297] Re: Xorg recognizes Logitech Headset USB dongle as input device then segfaults in XIChangeDeviceProperty
I believe I have found the issue, and the patch sent upstream is: http://lists.x.org/archives/xorg-devel/2012-June/031541.html. I have applied the patch to the package and uploaded a test package to ppa:chasedouglas/jupiter. Please test it out after it has finished building. The version of the package is 2.7.0-0ubuntu1.2~jupiter1. If it resolves the issue, I will create a new SRU package for it. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1007575] Re: SB Arena USB headset causes X BUG, can't click outside window
Hi Mike, Please capture the input properties of your headset input device (your headset is acting as an input device because it has buttons). After plugging in your headset, follow https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Multitouch/Testing/uTouchEvEmu#Debugging. You only need to perform steps 1, 2, and 5, the rest can be skipped for this bug. When it asks you to find your multitouch device, look for your headset instead. Once you have a device.prop file for your headset, attach it to this bug. Also, please attach the output of xinput list --long when the headset is plugged in. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1007575] Re: SB Arena USB headset causes X BUG, can't click outside window
The new packages fix the BUG, but I'm still getting the weird click behavior. What I'm seeing: 1. In a Konsole session, start a "sudo tail -f /var/log/Xorg.0.log" to watch the X log. 2. WIth focus still in Konsole, plug in the head phones. 3. Try to click another Konsole window I have open. Nothing happens from the click. 4. But I can click in a Chrome window I have open. 5. For the next second or so, I can click normally. But then it goes back to 3. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 825624] Re: patch: added dead_hook and dead_horn to latin keyboard layout
** Description changed: [Impact] The latin keyboard map lacks functionality to do dead_hook and dead_horn characters, which makes it inconvenient to type Vietnamese characters. [Development Fix] Patch from reporter was accepted upstream, and included in precise as a cherrypick of what went up. [Stable Fix] We're carrying the same xkeyboard-config in both quantal and precise currently, so can carry the same patch both places. [Test Case] - 1. Set keyboard map to latin - 2. Type the 3rd and 4th level on the j key + 1. In System Settings, go to Keyboard Layout + 2. Select Layouts + 3. Press the '+' to add a layout + 4. Type 'Maori' (or other layout that imports Latin) + 5. In Options, make sure you have 'Key to choose 3rd level' selected (e.g. set to Right Windows key) + 6. Hold your configured 3rd level key (e.g. Right Windows key) + 7. Press j Broken Behavior: No character printed Fixed Behavior: 3rd level places a hook under characters, 4th puts a horn on top. [Regression Potential] None expected, this adds functionality to previously unused keys. Possibly some people have locally mapped j to other key behaviors, but seems unlikely, and they can just as easily locally re-map it again if they prefer. [Original Report] Because I occasionally type in Vietnamese, but not with sufficient frequency to learn a completely different keyboard layout, I find it most useful to add dead_hook and dead_horn to the latin keyboard layout (as imported from the Maori layout). I had thought this a minor enough issue to just leave the patch on my own system but it got overwritten last time I did a distribution upgrade. The added deadkeys are on level 3 and 4 of the J key, which were previously unused. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1009612] [NEW] Mouse cursor jumps to wrong side of screen
Public bug reported: I use two monitors side by side with Xinerama. I have an nvidia card and am using the proprietary drivers. Often, when I am using the mouse on the right monitor and try to move it onto the left monitor, the cursor leaps from the left edge of the right monitor to the left edge of the left monitor (instead of the right edge of the left monitor as expected). I'm attaching a screencast displaying this behavior. Note, it doesn't happen 100% of the time. ** Affects: libxinerama (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to libxinerama in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1009612 Title: Mouse cursor jumps to wrong side of screen To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/libxinerama/+bug/1009612/+subscriptions ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

Re: [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 977646] Re: Screen won't enter power down
Hi, I don't believe that dimmer control has much affect here. As stated in the OP even xset dpms direct commands fail to sleep or suspend the screen. More than likely this is a bug in the kernel, as the latest nvidia drivers in earlier kernel versions would work successfully. That said, I'm happy I can finally suspend and resume the machine as a whole without random lockups, so I can live with a fading back light until this is addressed =) -cf On 06/06/2012 05:09 AM, Ashton Fagg wrote: > On 6 June 2012 20:49, mflorea<977...@bugs.launchpad.net> wrote: >> This issue is more serious than it sounds. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 999109] Re: complete freeze of Ubuntu after some time using Java
Another UPDATE: I now discovered that there are two types of freezes: The first one is what I mentioned before: complete system freeze, no mouse move, music lags and ends some seconds later. But I now had some freezes (more rare) that didn't affect the music. I couldn't change to the virtual consoles, but I was able to access the computer via ssh. I'll try that with the next freezes too. And it's absolutely clear now that it's not a java bug. I got it also with Games on wine and rarely also without playing games (When desktop effects of Unity apperared or when i clicked onto notifications of Opera Next). Btw: I'd be glad to be able to help fixing the bug, I have some basic knowledge of C/C++. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xserver-xorg-video-nouveau in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/999109 Title: complete freeze of Ubuntu after some time using Java To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xserver-xorg-video-nouveau/+bug/999109/+subscriptions ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 974830] Re: [sandybridge-m-gt2+] GPU lockup render.IPEHR: 0x78170003 using Oracle SQL Developer
This really needs to get resolved sooner rather than later. I am seriously considering downgrading to 11.10 because it is so much more stable for me. I use Ubuntu because I want a stable development platform and right now, 12.04 just ain't ready for my needs. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xserver-xorg-video-intel in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/974830 Title: [sandybridge-m-gt2+] GPU lockup render.IPEHR: 0x78170003 using Oracle SQL Developer To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/xserver-xorg-video-intel/+bug/974830/+subscriptions ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp
