[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 945006] Re: Screen flickers heavily after upgrading to 12.04 beta 1

2012-07-25 Thread Hendrik Knackstedt
Also experiencing this on a desktop running Lubuntu 12.04 with a LCD
display. Starts when log in screen appears. Flickering stops after
waiting for about 2-3 minutes.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 985202] Re: libx11 causes kwin to crash on login (over NX protocol)

2012-07-25 Thread Paul Coray
Same with us: Kubuntu 12.04, fully patched, FreeNX
0.7.3.zgit.120322.977c28d-0~ppa11 from FreeNX team at launchpad, keeps
crashing Kwin, no matter which version or platform the NX client
(Nomachine) runs on.

This is critical for us, as we are about to roll out an upgrade of all
our terminal servers for our ~200 users at the university library, based
on this combo.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1015015] Re: Xorg freezes once a day, mouse and SSH still works

2012-07-25 Thread Chris Polderman
The Xorg.log also the same as me (the stack trace bit)? The system has
been solid for me in the mean time.

I am running happily on (relevant bits fro uname -a):

3.2.0-27-generic #43-Ubuntu SMP Fri Jul 6 14:25:57 UTC 2012 x86_64
x86_64 x86_64 GNU/Linux

Chris

BTW: the /sys/kernel/debug/dri/0/i915_error_state always says no error
state collected on my laptop.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 993187] Re: ubuntu 12.04 completely freezes frequently.

2012-07-25 Thread Jeremy LaCroix
I ran the updates in my VM and it looks like kernel -27 is in the repos.
I don't remember though if I enabled the proposed repository. Isn't this
the kernel that's supposed to fix it?

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1027619] Re: xorg crashes 1 time in 5 when attempting to sleep

2012-07-25 Thread joeaguy
I have a ThinkPad t420s and have the same issue.

I can suspend to ram successfully several times, but under normal usage,
after the 3rd or 4th time Xorg crashes and I am sent back to the login
screen. The moon icon flashes and then stops. Once on the login
screen, logging in does not work, control-alt-F1 (etc) do not get me to
a login terminal. If I select shutdown, the computer goes to sleep
during shutdown, and I have to wake it order to finish shutdown. The
computer is generally not usable until I reboot.

I have tried booting and then putting my computer to sleep and waking it
up repeatedly, running different programs in between each cycle, to try
and find some trigger that reproduces the problem. I could not
reproduce the problem this way. The crash has only happened for me
after continuous normal usage. I have not been able to artificially
create the conditions for the crash.

Let me know if there are any logs or other data I can provide to help
diagnose.

would appreciate any help on how to best access the extended stack trace

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1026777] Re: Xorg segfault: kicks out to login screen

2012-07-25 Thread Stephen Wilson
Good idea. I'm going to paste the two descriptions from 1027619 here
too:

OP:

I am running xubuntu 12.04 on a Thinkpad X301. Since I first installed
12.04 a few months ago, everything worked fine for a couple of months.
But a few weeks ago (i.e. early July 2012), I started getting xorg
crashes.

The crashes happen when the computer is attempting to sleep (suspend,
not hibernate), either because I closed the lid or because I left it on
long enough for sleep to kick in automatically. It happens about 1 time
in 5 that sleep is attempted. I get returned to the login screen. Sleep
does not complete. The flashing moon light continues to blink. I can log
in again and continue, but nothing works properly... no wireless, docky
will not launch, everything is very slow, etc.

These frequent crashes make xubuntu 12.04 completely unusable. I hope
that a solution can be found soon.

Follow-up from joeaguy:

I have a ThinkPad t420s and have the same issue.

I can suspend to ram successfully several times, but under normal usage,
after the 3rd or 4th time Xorg crashes and I am sent back to the login
screen. The moon icon flashes and then stops. Once on the login screen,
logging in does not work, control-alt-F1 (etc) do not get me to a login
terminal. If I select shutdown, the computer goes to sleep during
shutdown, and I have to wake it order to finish shutdown. The computer
is generally not usable until I reboot.

I have tried booting and then putting my computer to sleep and waking it
up repeatedly, running different programs in between each cycle, to try
and find some trigger that reproduces the problem. I could not reproduce
the problem this way. The crash has only happened for me after
continuous normal usage. I have not been able to artificially create the
conditions for the crash.

Let me know if there are any logs or other data I can provide to help
diagnose.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 969860] Re: fglrx uses 100% CPU when screen turns off (spinning in glXWaitVideoSyncSGI or glXSwapBuffers)

2012-07-25 Thread Gregor Riepl
Followed the advice of #21 and disabled vsync in ccsm. It's already off
in ccc.

This helped against the spin, and I experience no noticable tearing. The
other workarounds didn't help.

Running on AMD E-450, Ubuntu 12.04, Unity, fglrx-updates 8.860 (12.4)

2012-07-25 Thread hackel
Currently experiencing this problem on 12.04 with nvidia driver.
Impossible to tell if it's really the same bug or just the same symptom
from the little information we have so far. I can't recall ever
expericing this problem in the past.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 969154] Re: Unable to set 1920x1080 resolution in Ubuntu 12.04 Beta2 as a VMWare Workstation 8 guest

2012-07-25 Thread Yurif
I can confirm this bug. I have it on Ubuntu 12.04 and Mint Maya. I can
also confirm the workaround from above. For me it was enough to simply
switch in my VMware display settings to autofit guest. As soon as I
maximize I am in a real 1920x1080 resolution (in the display settings in
Linux it also says 1920x1080 but it is not possible to safe this as
default - or at least it doesn't work - or apply it).

As I really don't like the autofit guest feature I hope this will be
patched. Any information on a better workaround would also be
appreciated.

Here you go, Daniel. Got it on the first try :).

Anyway, Compiz report 1.4 Gigs of virtual memory - nothing out of the
ordinary for me. I got slightly distracted and forgot to check real
memory usage. I can check up on that again. Anyway, here's a stacktrace
- it's looking pretty unhelpful

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1029126] [NEW] When playing audio or video, system hangs for a second or so repeating audio like a broken cd

2012-07-25 Thread Lord Kap
Public bug reported:

It never occoured that I had to hard dreboot the system, but it repeats often.
I'm not sure but it appears like a problem with the audio codec.
It occours also when playing Youtube videos (but with flash player there's the
other issue about its bad behaviour with nVidia graphic cards and I don't think
they're related).

I request to have this bug un-marked as a dupe of Bug #973096 and have
it separately triaged.

Bug #973096 is definitely related to the graphics drivers.

I'm fairly certain this is not a duplicate bug, as my crashing seems to
be unrelated to video but related instead to the networking. No problems
with my GeForce, video, or accelerated graphics, but crashes do occur
when I'm just fiddling on the desktop or doing stuff that isn't
graphics-related.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1029160] [NEW] screen corruption after Ubuntu boot splash lasting until Try Ubuntu

2012-07-25 Thread warren
Public bug reported:

2) X.Org X Server 1.12.1.902 (1.12.2 RC 2) Graphics card ATI Radeon 9800
3) I expected not to have the screen corruption after the Ubuntu boot splash.
4) After the boot splash screen corruption of alternating white and black
horizantal line covered the display area. Then some of the screen cleared in
small boxed sections on both the left and right side of the display area. The
final phase is then a gray screen clear of screen corruption with the Try

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1023184] Re: libtxc-dxtn-s2tc0 should create a libtxc_dxtn.so file to help MESA choose (breaks some Wine apps)

2012-07-25 Thread Clint Byrum
Hello Scott, or anyone else affected,

Accepted s2tc into precise-proposed. The package will build now and be
available at http://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/s2tc/0~git20110809-2.1
in a few hours, and then in the -proposed repository.

Please help us by testing this new package. See
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Testing/EnableProposed for documentation how to
enable and use -proposed. Your feedback will aid us getting this update
out to other Ubuntu users.

If this package fixes the bug for you, please change the bug tag from
verification-needed to verification-done. If it does not, change the
tag to verification-failed. In either case, details of your testing
will help us make a better decision.

Further information regarding the verification process can be found at
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/QATeam/PerformingSRUVerification . Thank you in
advance!

** Description changed:

+
http://bugs.winehq.org/show_bug.cgi?id=31161 points to a packaging bug,
either in Ubuntu's s2tc or mesa

  Relevant quote:
-

Note that Wine needs the 32-bit version of that package though.

Actually I had it installed. But it seems like there is a bug in ubuntu i386
package. I had to create a proper symbolic link:

  sudo ln -s libtxc_dxtn_s2tc.so.0 /usr/lib/i386-linux-gnu/libtxc_dxtn.so

Now I can see the menu.

  To summarize:

  1) If you're using opensource graphics drivers, you have to install
  libtxc-dxtn-s2tc
  2) make sure you have libtxc-dxtn-s2tc0:i386 installed.
  3) run with MESA_DEBUG=1 to see if there are warning couldn't open
  libtxc_dxtn.so
  4) If you're in Ubuntu 12.04 rewrite a link
  /usr/lib/i386-linux-gnu/libtxc_dxtn.so to point to
  /usr/lib/i386-linux-gnu/libtxc_dxtn_s2tc.so.0

Hopefully, this thread will help somebody.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 556782]

2012-07-25 Thread Brian Visel
It's disappointing, but I think there are just too many bugs and not
enough coders to fix them, and they've got to prioritize. -- on top of
that, there's not a *really* good method out there of evaluating the
impact of a problem. This is obviously a high-impact problem,
considering how common the card is, but it's slipped between the cracks.

As to your idea -- I think that radeonhd drivers are incompatible with
the newer versions of X -- which is why they were phased out anyways.
Unfortunately, the newer drivers obviously don't work right for a lot of
people.

The best bet to getting a fix is probably emailing the maintainers of
the new driver -- getting on mailing lists and discussing it. I long
ago gave up on fighting this particular fight.

If it helps, this is definitely a sideport ram issue, and disabling
sideport ram in the BIOS fixes the problem -- however, many BIOSes do
not allow you to do this.

Replying to #44: I know that RadeonHD is not compatible with the current

compatible I'd just compile it.

I'm short of time these days. Rather than making huge efforts to have
X.Org fix the bug, I'll just remove the Debian partition from my

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 966744] Re: Resume from suspend leaves me with black screen or a screen of the desktop before it suspended (though the mouse still moves/changes cursor)

2012-07-25 Thread Daniel van Vugt
Thanks Chauncellor, the stack trace is very good actually. It shows compiz is
blocked in the intel driver:
intel_update_renderbuffers () from /usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/dri/i965_dri.so

This is probably the fault of the intel graphics driver, unless...

1. compiz is passing it invalid data. Looks highly unlikely; or
2. compiz is spinning at 100% CPU overwhelming the driver. Is it?

Chauncellor - If you run dstack multiple times while compiz is
unresponsive, does the resulting output change much?

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1029265] [NEW] X server sometimes crashes after sleep

2012-07-25 Thread LGB [Gábor Lénárt]
Public bug reported:

If I close the lid of the notebook without external power, it goes into
sleep state. However sometimes (but not always!) after resuming, X
crashes, I only see everything disappear and lightdm screen can bee seen
again, with sigsegv info in kernel message buffer (dmesg) etc. Note that
crash is not instant: after resuming usually I work something like half
a minute before crash happens.
