[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 966744] Re: Resume from suspend leaves me with black screen or a screen of the desktop before it suspended (though the mouse still moves/changes cursor)

2012-07-27 Thread Chauncellor
Daniel, I got multiple freeze/stacktraces - they're all exactly the same
as the one I uploaded. Compiz also wasn't using any notable cpu
consumption and was taking up 100 Mb of memory, which is not any
different than normal, really. So it just *dies*.

Also, I'm not sure if you ever saw this in the slew of comments on this
report, but if I kill compiz/compiz-decorator and replace with metacity,
then shove a 'compiz --replace' onto tty7 via tty1 then the same exact
frozen screen will return. So would you indeed say this is still intel's
fault? Some sort of triple buffering issue? (ahem, not very knowledgable
about graphics stacks...)

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 966744] Re: Resume from suspend leaves me with black screen or a screen of the desktop before it suspended (though the mouse still moves/changes cursor)

2012-07-27 Thread Santiago.Batista
Hello everyone,

I have also been experiencing this bugs for quite some time now.

I just wanted to add to Eric Piel's comment, as I too experienced this
bug in a different situation, i.e. not after suspending my laptop.

I have a Dell Vostro, with intel graphics.

I sometimes use xset dpms force off to turn off my screen without
locking it nor suspending. Although I cannot reproduce the bug at will,
this is what I did:

1) Run xset dpms force off
2) Wait 10 minutes until the screen locks automatically
3) Type something on the keyboard to wake up the computer
4) Result: Screen turns on (the laptop was NOT suspended), but it is not blank,
I can see my desktop, but the mouse/keyboard can't interact with it. The mouse
changes to a cursor in the center of the screen, where the space to input the
password should be.

This is, hence, very similar in the result, as the mouse changes to a
cursor, but the screen cannot be unlocked. (I did try to put my password
to no avail).

Hope this helps to tackle this down. Sorry if it isn't too clear, let me know
if I should explain again anything.
Cheers

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 973163] Re: Xorg doesn't detect correct resolution of VGA Panasonic TV

2012-07-27 Thread Alec Warszycki
I've encountered something similar to this bug with my Toshiba NB205
netbook, only it's affecting the screen on the netbook itself. It was
working fine before, then after a recent update, the display won't,
well...display at the correct resolution (1024x600). Trying to force
that resolution through xrandr gives... well, a picture of the netbook's
monitor after forcing 1024x600 as the resolution is attacthed.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1002562] Re: no 3D with radeon driver, AIGLX error: Calling driver entry point failed

2012-07-27 Thread Dirk Möbius
I noticed that this fix has been backported into linux-image-3.2.0-27.43
(precise-updates). I updated, and it works now! That is, the error
AIGLX error: Calling driver entry point failed is gone now. Gnome
3D/Unity works like a charm.

Many thanks to all involved!

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1021250] Re: EQ overflowing results in black screen

2012-07-27 Thread Sam_
It just happened again, out of a sudden the screen is black.
The source menu of the monitor greys out the hdmi entry, then I unplug and
replug the keyboard cable, the hdmi entry is available again. IIRC when it
occurs then the mouse was moved a bit.
I wonder why evdev configures the keyboard as mouse.
The keyboard is connected via cable, the mouse wireless via an usb nano stick.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1029865] [NEW] Intel HD graphics: Starts always with 1024x768 resolution on a 1920x1080 monitor (HDMI and DisplayPort)

2012-07-27 Thread Till Kamppeter
Public bug reported:

I have a new Intel DZ77BH-55K motherboard with an i5-2400 processor with
on-chip HD graphics. The motherboard has one HDMI and one DisplayPort
output. For testing reasons and on the search to solve the problem I
have connected both outputs to my EIZO EV2333W 23-inch 1920x1080 (16:9)
monitor (HDMI to DVI via adapter, DisplayPort to DisplayPort), but I
have the same problem when the DisplayPort cable is not connected.

The problem is that if the computer boots up and shows the login screen
the login screen appears with 1024x768 resolution and not with the
monitor's native 1920x1080. The driver is actually the intel driver (no
fallback to VESA). After login I can correct thedisplay to 1920x1080
with the Displays section of the System Settings and this persists
when I log out an log in again, only the login screen and the desktop of
every new user stays 1024x768.

The problem seems that there are more than the two (HDMI and
DisplayPort) displays reported by the driver, according to the xrandr
output. Especially there is a VGA1 display always considered as
connected and with max resolution of 1024x768. This seems to somehow
determine the default resolution, probably because the standard multi-
monitor mode is mirroring and due to the VGA1 ghost display also a
system with one monitor and one monitor cable is already in multi-
monitor mode.

2012-07-27 Thread themacmeister
Confirm same issue with Dell Inspiron N5110 -- Core i7 Sand Bridge
Mobile. Xubuntu 12.04. Tried all kernels from 3.2 through 3.5rc1. Same
issue.

Rebuilt all Intel drivers from git source -- same issue.

NOT using Compiz
KERNEL panics from iwlwifi/mac80211 fixed after recompiling.
NOT using Gnome or Gnome Shell or unity.
Using Bumblebee for Optimus graphics.

libva vaapi working beautifully.
vdpau not working?

I will try i915.i915_enable_rc6=0 boot flag from above, and see how I
go.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1029882] [NEW] Intel HD graphics: Mouse is not running smoothly

The problem is that when I move the mouse, the cursor does not go
smoothly with the movement. It goes in little jumps, as if there are
small time windows (1 or 2 per second) where the mouse cursor is not
updated.

Workaround (NOT FIX!) for everyone else affected:

Edit /etc/default/grub, adding video=VGA1:d between the quotes in the
GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX line, then run the command

sudo update-grub

in a terminal window. Reboot and the problem should be gone.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 973096] Re: Nvidia driver causes xorg crash

2012-07-27 Thread Joel M
@ddadap, I just got the blackscreen - logout bug with gdb attached but
this time gdb failed with the following and no backtrace was available,
nothing in dmesg:

/build/buildd/gdb-7.4-2012.04/gdb/infrun.c:3189: internal-error:
handle_inferior_event: Assertion `inf' failed.
A problem internal to GDB has been detected,
further debugging may prove unreliable.

I was scrolling in browser and full CPU load due to a build in progress
(but no busy network activity).

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1017045] Re: Xorg crashed with SIGABRT in raise() - 12.04 on amd64

2012-07-27 Thread Magosányi Árpád
Same here, 5th freeze only this day.
It was starting when I have changed my machine to a Lenovo T530, by swapping
disk containing a Precise install.
It is not just quite annoying, it makes work nearly impossible.

I have switched from compiz to classic gnome with no effects, with no
effect. Freezes are still haunting me.

A hint: in at least some cases the hang have occured when I expected a
new window to appear. In one time the window have actually appeared but
it remained grey for the end of time.

I suspect the graphics card. Any hints on turning off all graphic
accelerations would be appreciated.

I am willing to test anything to make this disappear.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 771263] Re: unity shortcuts do not use appropriate keyboard layout

I can propose ugly fix.

Create map of keyboard in memory with english layout and remap it to
current layout when it switched. And when pressed shortcut, just change
pressed keys by map.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 985202] Re: libx11 causes kwin to crash on login (over NX protocol)

2012-07-27 Thread Daniel Kulesz
I just did another fresh full reinstall and used the latest nomachine
server/client/node, but as already reported here it still crashes, but
this time it seems to recover. It also crashes on each attempt to resize
the NX window as also reported here already.

Another thing that I noticed is that KDE apps run MUCH slower than they
used to do in 10.04. I have a direct comparison because I have two NX
KDE sessions (one with a 10.04 host, one with a 12.04 host) side by side
and the slowness in 12.04 is quite striking! Interestingly, GTK
applications seem to perform quite well, i.e. when minimizing/maximizing
a firefox window vs. minimizing/maximizing a rekonq window.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1030036] [NEW] 1.11.4-0ubuntu10.6 break RADEON driver on Notebook (nx6325), screen remains black

2012-07-27 Thread Andreas Schultz
Public bug reported:

After upgrading to 1.11.4-0ubuntu10.6 the screen remain black. Start
screen worked, but when X was supposed to take over, nothing happened.

Downgrading to xserver-xorg-core xserver-xephyr and xserver-common to
1.11.4-0ubuntu10.5 fixed the problem.

I'll attach logs for the working and non-working case.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1029160] Re: screen corruption after Ubuntu boot splash lasting until Try Ubuntu

2012-07-27 Thread melchiaros
Is the system anyway starting? Or do it hang completely on system start?

I could not find stacktraces it the XorgLog(Old).txt ,so I expect that
it is not a crasher.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 980519] Re: Random log off in Ubuntu 12.04 LTS

2012-07-27 Thread jondecker76
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 973096 ***

I have this autologout problem daily. Its down right unacceptable that
nothing is being done about it. My wife runs a photography business and
it will just randomly log out on her several times per day while editing
in Gimp - it happens randomly here, not only when watching videos or
using firefox.

Here is a segfault from a crash that just happened.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 849452] Re: Screen is a colorful mess broken into many lines after returning from hibernation

2012-07-27 Thread Tyler Hicks
Thanks for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu
better. We appreciate the difficulties you are facing, but this appears
to be a regular (non-security) bug. I have unmarked it as a security
issue since this bug does not show evidence of allowing attackers to
cross privilege boundaries nor directly cause loss of data/privacy.
Please feel free to report any other bugs you may find.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1030151] [NEW] no more graphical screen after fglrx intallation through system settings interface

2012-07-27 Thread Thomas
Public bug reported:

I'm running uanta alpha 3 and few nights ago the new interface to
instal the proprietary drivers landed. I decided to test it and selected
fglrx a the driver I wan to use for my graphic card (HD5770). The other
choice was fglrx-update but I picked the first of the two since no more
explanations were provided.

Upon reboot, the computer throw me back to tty1 and a console login prompt. On
tty7 the last message displayed is :
* Stopping save kernel messages[OK]

cat /var/log/Xorg.0.g | grep EE give :
[ timestamp] (WW) No matchingDevice section for instance (BusID PCI:0@2:0:1)
found

Nothing special pop in dmesg nor in kern.log about fglrx though I have a
lot of error about fd0 which is the floppy disk I don't have I guess.

I'm pretty stuck right now since I don't know how to remove fglrx and revert to
the xorg ati driver by command line, cleanly. I also ignore if the new
interface for proprietary drivers has a command line interface...

Cheers,
Thomas

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1030165] [NEW] Xorg can't use nvidia card with nouveau but doesn't fallback to vesa

2012-07-27 Thread Typhoe
Public bug reported:

Hi,

using the livecd (quantal alpha 3), I can't get a desktop display.

I tried to install using the alternate CD. Install setup works, but on first
boot, nouveau is used and can't get the video card to work, so the X server is
re-spawned every few seconds, but no desktop (not even a login screen)...
Xorg doesn't fallback to vesa mode...

I had to switch to console (ctrl+alt+f1) and install nvidia driver
(nvidia-current-updates) then reboot to get a working xorg.

Shouldn't xorg fallback to vesa mode if nouveau can't be used?
I tried to boot on an old 10.04 LTS cdrom, and I can get a working desktop (at
least the display ;-) ) in vesa mode with it!

Regards.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1030169] [NEW] X crashes multiple times every day for no apparent reason

2012-07-27 Thread joehill
Public bug reported:

For about a week now, my screen has been freezing several times a day
and has stopped taking keyboard or mouse input, forcing me to restart my
system by hitting the power button. Normally when I hard reboot I have
to hold the power button for several seconds, but in this case I just
have to push it once briefly and the system goes down for reboot. Most
of the time when it has happened I've been viewing photos using
Shotwell, although it happens with other applications as well.
