*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 973096 *** https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/973096 Ok, guys. There seem to be no reasonable solution to this problem. Here I am giving an unreasonable one: install kde and use it (I did it and it works). If the problem is solved (what I doubt will happen soon) then u can move back to unity or gnome by simply choosing it in the menu. Maybe it is even better to reinstall and start using kubuntu. In any case, it seems clear that solution to our problems in ubuntu will not happen soon. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 728745] Re: [nvidia, 7300, 7400] display freeze when using unity desktop
These are my observations: Using Unity 2D every once in a while the screen blinks, turns all white for a fraction of a second and then turns back. Sometimes this is combined with menus, and other areas becomes messed up. (turned all white with individual pixels in other colors, sort of looking like corrupt pictures). When I use Unity (3D) I noticed the same behavior just before the screen froze. So my guess is that the problem isn't within Unity 3D but somewhere else. Unity 2D manages to recover while Unity 3D freezes. The problem with the blinking screen never occurred when I used Ubuntu 11 (without unity) Ubuntu 12.04 GeForce Go 7300 -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to nvidia-graphics-drivers in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/728745 Title: [nvidia, 7300, 7400] display freeze when using unity desktop To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/nux/+bug/728745/+subscriptions ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1022802] Re: XTerm and UXTerm need new icons
What the heck is wrong with you, Dickey? You've been stonewalling this issue since the first bug report from 2007! One of the goals of the new post-Lucid Ubuntu is a highly competitive visual experience. Including XTerm and UXTerm by default is fine, but flaunting hideous icons on a new Unity Dash and Launcher system that exists to show off hi-res icons, is absurd and contradicts the entire revised mission of Ubuntu to surpass Mac OS in terms of UI quality. NO, it is not a subjective opinion that the XTerm and UXTerm icons look terrible, and it is emphatically NOT an unrealistic goal to do something about it. In fact, it is absolutely necessary to remove jarring graphical inconsistencies in Unity. Personally, I am puzzled as to why XTerm and UXTerm are even shown by default. Certainly, they do not qualify as commonly used applications for the Ubuntu target audience. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1022802] Re: XTerm and UXTerm need new icons
Well, that's unlikely to be a realistic goal. But at least respect the Unity interface. If XTerm shall remain installed by default, then making the icon match the current default set should be of paramount importance for visual consistency. Considering that this has been a papercut for so many for so long, albeit a minor one, I can't understand how interface standards can be raised unless Canonical and the greater Ubuntu community enforce design policies, and the first step is taking such complaints seriously. Yet, every one of the bug reports submitted in regard to the confusing inclusion of XTerm is either rudely shot down or ignored. Quite frankly, XTerm and its extremely bad looking icon in Dash (popping up every time you call up Gnome Terminal) both scares and confuses the target Ubuntu audience, which will never ever use it. It is, therefore, most obviously a legitimate concern! Now, you say there are new icons available somewhere for XTerm patch #281. (By the way, the previous sentence means almost nothing to the target ubuntu audience.) But if ordinary users can't find or expect to get useful information in these bug reports about when or if such an improvement will become default in 12.10, or whether its available as as upgrade for 12.04, how can we possibly expect target audience Ubuntu users to take the time to file beneficial bug reports in the first place? -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xterm in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1022802 Title: XTerm and UXTerm need new icons To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xterm/+bug/1022802/+subscriptions ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1022802] Re: XTerm and UXTerm need new icons
no problem. I assume that people commenting in bug-reports are aware of where the upstream source is for a package. Offhand, I don't (as I do for Debian) know the URL for Ubuntu package pages; this URL indicates that Ubuntu is a little behind #281: http://oswatershed.org/pkg/xterm One of the criticisms of the bitmap icons was that they're not scalable and don't honor transparent background (though the latter is unevenly implemented in different desktops). I supplied new icons in #281 (which will still get complaints from art critics), which resolve the technical issues. Hi everyone, Is this bug fixed? I've got the same issue with my HD3450 AGP with an Athlon XP 2400+ (2.0 GHz) / nForce2 motherboard (2 GB DDR) and Ubuntustudio 12.04 (32 bits) installed. I first tried to install AMD/ATI proprietary driver with the GUI driver installer but the system failed to start Xorg after reboot. In command line, I removed all installed fglrx packages and I tried to manually install packages fglrx and fglrx-amdcccle with apt-get, I created a xorg.conf file using aticonfig --initial and ... no result - Xorg crashes with Illegal instruction at address (never twice the same address!). I also tried to install packages fglrx-updates and fglrx-amdcccle- updates: still no result - Xorg crashes again. My config: - Graphics: Radeon HD 3450 AGP 8x - CPU: AMD Athlon 2400+ (2.0 GHz, 32 bits) - Chipset: nForce 2 IGP + MCP (IGP desactivated by Bios) - RAM: 2 GB DDR-SDRAM - Version of fglrx: 8.960, kernel-3.2.0-27-generic-pae-i686 - Ubuntu version: Ubuntustudio 12.04 (32 bits) Regards, Johan -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to fglrx-installer in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/990436 Title: Xorg with fglrx on ATI HD3650 crashes with Illegal instruction To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/fglrx-installer/+bug/990436/+subscriptions ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp
