I was wrong about the mouse behaviour, the mouse actually moves when the
desktop is freezed (see bug 877279).
Sorry for the confusion.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 966744] Re: Resume from suspend leaves me with black screen or a screen of the desktop before it suspended (though the mouse still moves/changes cursor)

2012-08-05 Thread Lee
Same for me, Lenovo ZHAOYANG E46A with Nvidia nvs 3100M(The laptop has an intel
i3 cpu with a gpu integrated on it .But the intel integrated gpu has already
been blocked by the laptop manufacturer).
I used arch, ubuntu 11.10,12.04 in the past and am currently using ubuntu 12.10
alpha3. I have used gnome3,xfce and unity as my desktop enviroment. All of the
above DEs and OS distros have the same bug.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 980519] Re: Random log off in Ubuntu 12.04 LTS

2012-08-05 Thread grass_hopppa
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 973096 ***
https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/973096

Ok, guys. There seem to be no reasonable solution to this problem.

Here I am giving an unreasonable one: install kde and use it (I did it and it
works). If the problem is solved (what I doubt will happen soon) then u can
move back to unity or gnome by simply choosing it in the menu. Maybe it is even
better to reinstall and start using kubuntu.
In any case, it seems clear that solution to our problems in ubuntu will not
happen soon.

Greetings!

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 728745] Re: [nvidia, 7300, 7400] display freeze when using unity desktop

2012-08-05 Thread Mange
These are my observations:
Using Unity 2D every once in a while the screen blinks, turns all white for a
fraction of a second and then turns back.
Sometimes this is combined with menus, and other areas becomes messed up.
(turned all white with individual pixels in other colors, sort of looking like
corrupt pictures).

When I use Unity (3D) I noticed the same behavior just before the screen
froze.

So my guess is that the problem isn't within Unity 3D but somewhere else.
Unity 2D manages to recover while Unity 3D freezes.

The problem with the blinking screen never occurred when I used Ubuntu
11 (without unity)

Affects me too. I have a lenovo L520, with intel onboard drivers, and a
32-bit clean installation. Unfortunately the xorg stuff is the most
problematic feature in all my laptops, and bug reports never seem to
solve anything on launchpad (bad old experience)

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 987153] Re: Xorg freeze

2012-08-05 Thread Hansen
@kenorb
Thanks for looking into this bug.
I have read through the bugs you suggested.
for 966744 My bug does not relate to suspend if i suspend with ATI proprietary
driver installed the computer locks up completely.
As for 988008 it is only sometimes that the mouse cursor are able to move, most
times the computer just freezes.
In 1007904 i'm on kernel 3.2.0-27 and still have freezes.

Are there anything i can do to to help getting this bug fixed?

Thank you.

2012-08-05 Thread tshirtman
I have this issue too, using nouveau with a G84 ([GeForce 8600 GTS])
card too. I tried bazillons of different configurations to make either
hibernate or suspend to work, to no avail. I'm ready to try anything to
make it work.

On fedora 17, with the same config, monitors wake up on resume and
desktop come back (altought unresponsive).

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1033242] [NEW] X server crashes

2012-08-05 Thread Erno Kuusela
Public bug reported:

This has happened twice now, both times when machine was unattended and screen
was probably locked.
Looks similar to https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=821628 including

So in Xorg log I get the following (the log for the older crash was not saved,

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1033253] [NEW] WebSphere Integration Developer 6.2 (Eclipse 3.4) - BPEL editor is slow for large windows

2012-08-05 Thread Rostislav Stříbrný
Public bug reported:

1.) lsb_release -rd
Description:Ubuntu 12.04.1 LTS
Release:12.04

2.) apt-cache policy libXrender1
libxrender1:
  Installed: 1:0.9.6-2build1

3.) What you expected to happen: Eclipse window rendering would be working at
the similar speed as in Oneric.
4.) What happened instead: Eclipse was terribly slow.

Conditions: WID 6.2 Linux version is 32-bit. Ubuntu 12.04 64-bit version
installed with latest updates. ia32-libs and libstdc++5:i386 package to make
WID 6.2 working.

WID 6.2 was running smoothly on Ubuntu 11.10 (Oneiric) but that stopped
directly after upgrade to Ubuntu 12.04. The problem is that window
rendering (BPEL editor) started to be terribly slow (CPU at 100%).

I tried to investigate the problem and finally after a few days and nights I've
find out that the problem is in libXrender package.
Since code has not been changed between the two Ubuntu releases, it's somehow
related to how the package is build.

5.) My analysis of the problem:

5.1) Some simple tests first
- Usage of different window environment had no effect (Unity, Gnome Shell,
Gnome Classic, XFCE).
- Usage of latest Xorg versions (xorg-edgers) had also no effect.
- Usage of older/newer nvidia drivers had no effect.
- Usage of xserver-xorg-video-noveau had no effect.

5.2) Compare versions and changelog
 http://lino.ubuntuupdates.org/pm/libxrender
   precise mainbase1:0.9.6-2build1
   oneiric mainbase1:0.9.6-2

  Change Log:
  Version: 1:0.9.6-2build1 2012-03-02 07:04:57 UTC
  libxrender (1:0.9.6-2build1) precise; urgency=low
* No-change rebuild against current pkgbinarymangler to fix broken
  md5sums. (see LP #875466)
   -- Martin Pitt Wed, 29 Feb 2012 17:58:51 +0100

5.3) Locate file
  Precise: /usr/lib/i386-linux-gnu/libXrender.so.1.3.0
  Oneiric: /usr/lib32/libXrender.so.1.3.0

5.4) Compare libXrender library dependency
= By using ldd utility
= nearly same output (ie.just addresses are different)

5.5) Filesize comparison (Result: Size differ significantly)
 Precise size: 34424
 Oneiric size: 38520

5.6) Compare using file utility (Result: hashes are different)
Precise: ELF 32-bit LSB shared object, Intel 80386, version 1 (SYSV),
dynamically linked, BuildID[sha1]=0x62c06ccdf7ede559a439ac33ac35dec40f035a9c,
stripped
Oneiric: ELF 32-bit LSB shared object, Intel 80386, version 1 (SYSV),
dynamically linked, BuildID[sha1]=0x05ad8f548663c542361448564b6f1c6f881f9e65,
stripped

5.7) Compare libXrender path in loaded libraries (Result: path differs)
 Find all dynamic libraries
 lsof -p eclipse process | grep -E \.so\.|\.so | cut -c74-
List library dependency (using ldd) for every loaded library

 Result:
 - Precise: All used libraries have following dependency:
libXrender.so.1 = /usr/lib/i386-linux-gnu/libXrender.so.1 (0xf69bd000)
 - Oneiric: Not tested (already upgraded to Precise). Very likely
/usr/lib32/libXrender.so.1.

5.8) libXrender is used by following loaded libraries

/opt/IBM/WID62/configuration/org.eclipse.osgi/bundles/2282/1/.cp/libswt-atk-gtk-3453.so:

/opt/IBM/WID62/configuration/org.eclipse.osgi/bundles/2282/1/.cp/libswt-cairo-gtk-3453.so:

/opt/IBM/WID62/configuration/org.eclipse.osgi/bundles/2282/1/.cp/libswt-pi-gtk-3453.so:

 /usr/lib/i386-linux-gnu/gtk-2.0/2.10.0/immodules/im-ibus.so:

 /usr/lib/i386-linux-gnu/libcairo.so.2.11000.2:
 /usr/lib/i386-linux-gnu/libcanberra-gtk.so.0.1.8:
 /usr/lib/i386-linux-gnu/libgdk-x11-2.0.so.0.2400.10:
 /usr/lib/i386-linux-gnu/libgtk-x11-2.0.so.0.2400.10:
 /usr/lib/i386-linux-gnu/libpangocairo-1.0.so.0.3000.0:
 /usr/lib/i386-linux-gnu/libXcursor.so.1.0.2:
 /usr/lib/i386-linux-gnu/libXrandr.so.2.2.0:

6.) Workaround (use Oneiric libXrender library version):
6.1) Copy /usr/lib32/libXrender* from Oneiric to
/opt/IBM/WID62/oneiric/usr/lib32/
6.2) Make WID startup script /opt/IBM/WID62/runwid.sh with following content:

No (relevant) stdout/stderr errors were logged after Eclipse was started.
That's also the case for .metadata/.log log file in Eclipse's workspace.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1022802] Re: XTerm and UXTerm need new icons

2012-08-05 Thread lljccoael
What the heck is wrong with you, Dickey?

You've been stonewalling this issue since the first bug report from
2007!

One of the goals of the new post-Lucid Ubuntu is a highly competitive
visual experience. Including XTerm and UXTerm by default is fine, but
flaunting hideous icons on a new Unity Dash and Launcher system that
exists to show off hi-res icons, is absurd and contradicts the entire
revised mission of Ubuntu to surpass Mac OS in terms of UI quality.

NO, it is not a subjective opinion that the XTerm and UXTerm icons
look terrible, and it is emphatically NOT an unrealistic goal to do
something about it. In fact, it is absolutely necessary to remove
jarring graphical inconsistencies in Unity.

Personally, I am puzzled as to why XTerm and UXTerm are even shown by
default. Certainly, they do not qualify as commonly used applications
for the Ubuntu target audience.

I demand that you respect the people who have brought up this issue for
years.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1022802] Re: XTerm and UXTerm need new icons

2012-08-05 Thread lljccoael
Well, that's unlikely to be a realistic goal. But at least respect the
Unity interface. If XTerm shall remain installed by default, then making
the icon match the current default set should be of paramount importance
for visual consistency. Considering that this has been a papercut for so
many for so long, albeit a minor one, I can't understand how interface
standards can be raised unless Canonical and the greater Ubuntu
community enforce design policies, and the first step is taking such
complaints seriously. Yet, every one of the bug reports submitted in
regard to the confusing inclusion of XTerm is either rudely shot down or
ignored. Quite frankly, XTerm and its extremely bad looking icon in Dash
(popping up every time you call up Gnome Terminal) both scares and
confuses the target Ubuntu audience, which will never ever use it. It
is, therefore, most obviously a legitimate concern!

Now, you say there are new icons available somewhere for XTerm patch
#281. (By the way, the previous sentence means almost nothing to the
target ubuntu audience.) But if ordinary users can't find or expect to
get useful information in these bug reports about when or if such an
improvement will become default in 12.10, or whether its available as as
upgrade for 12.04, how can we possibly expect target audience Ubuntu
users to take the time to file beneficial bug reports in the first
place?

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1022802] Re: XTerm and UXTerm need new icons

2012-08-05 Thread Thomas Dickey
no problem. I assume that people commenting in bug-reports are aware of where
the upstream source
is for a package. Offhand, I don't (as I do for Debian) know the URL for
Ubuntu package pages;
this URL indicates that Ubuntu is a little behind #281:
http://oswatershed.org/pkg/xterm

One of the criticisms of the bitmap icons was that they're not scalable and
don't honor transparent
background (though the latter is unevenly implemented in different desktops).
I supplied new icons
in #281 (which will still get complaints from art critics), which resolve the
technical issues. I have
some additional work in mind for #282.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 990436] Re: Xorg with fglrx on ATI HD3650 crashes with Illegal instruction

2012-08-05 Thread Johan
Hi everyone,

Is this bug fixed?

I've got the same issue with my HD3450 AGP with an Athlon XP 2400+ (2.0
GHz) / nForce2 motherboard (2 GB DDR) and Ubuntustudio 12.04 (32 bits)
installed.

I first tried to install AMD/ATI proprietary driver with the GUI driver
installer but the system failed to start Xorg after reboot.

In command line, I removed all installed fglrx packages and I tried to
manually install packages fglrx and fglrx-amdcccle with apt-get, I
created a xorg.conf file using aticonfig --initial and ... no result
- Xorg crashes with Illegal instruction at address (never twice the
same address!).

I also tried to install packages fglrx-updates and fglrx-amdcccle-
updates: still no result - Xorg crashes again.

My config:
- Graphics: Radeon HD 3450 AGP 8x
- CPU: AMD Athlon 2400+ (2.0 GHz, 32 bits)
- Chipset: nForce 2 IGP + MCP (IGP desactivated by Bios)
- RAM: 2 GB DDR-SDRAM

- Version of fglrx: 8.960, kernel-3.2.0-27-generic-pae-i686
- Ubuntu version: Ubuntustudio 12.04 (32 bits)

Regards,
Johan
