[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 945006] Re: Screen flickers heavily after upgrading to 12.04 beta 1
Hey guys, I have a Samsung NP300V5a, and I reported the exact same issue as bug # 1028723. They decided it was the same bug as #1028151, and that is where I have been directed to continue commenting. In any case, I just tested the latest upstream ubuntu kernel at http://kernel.ubuntu.com/~kernel-ppa/mainline/v3.6-rc1-quantal/. I believe it has resolved the issue, but I am going to wait a day or so to make sure. I know it might take some time to prepare an official ubuntu update, so I am extremely tempted just to keep using this new kernel. Anyway, check up on #1028151, hopefully they will see the testing and then help all of us out. This was never a problem with 11.10! [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 969860] Re: fglrx uses 100% CPU when screen turns off (spinning in glXWaitVideoSyncSGI or glXSwapBuffers)
Well, this is a little bit embarrasing. The workaroung porposed in #48 have another error, sorry. I prefer to detail it again. This is the only workaround that works for me: ### ATI Privative _ ccsm-OpenGL-Sync to VBlank [disabled] 1. Open Catalyst Control Center (admin mode). 2. Display Options - Tear Free- [disabled] 3. Go to 3D More Settings. 4. Set Wait for vertical refresh - Off unless aplication specifies. _ With Wait for vertical refresh- On, unless application specifies, I've problems with compiz with ot without Sync to VBlank enabled. Enabling cssm-workarounds-Force full screen redraws (buffer swap) on repaint doesn't solve the problem in any workaround while vsync is enabled in cssm or catalyst control center. But disabling vsync completely and enabling Force full screen redraws (buffer swap) on repaint seems that reduce the tearing a little bit. Anyway, obviously since I don't have vsync I'm suffering of tearing. ### Radeon OpenSource In the other hand, with the radeon opensource driver, only disabling ccsm-OpenGL-Sync to VBlank (keeping buffer swap dissabled) solves the problem and don't suffer tearing (but the GPU temp is clearly hottest comparing with privative). I'm testing since two days without problems. In a few days will report if I had more problems or I can replicate the problem with compiz Resuming, only the [WORKAROUND 2] solves the problem (in my case) As curiosity, In Ubuntu 11.10, when I install the privative driver, I always need to disable ccsm-OpenGL-Sync to VBlank to reduce tearing or some type of ¿shuttering? when moving windows quickly, and enable Tear free in the catalyst Control Center. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to fglrx-installer in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/969860 Title: fglrx uses 100% CPU when screen turns off (spinning in glXWaitVideoSyncSGI or glXSwapBuffers) To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/compiz/+bug/969860/+subscriptions ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 976331]
I've also opened googleearth on my 965gm system, zoomed to my home, then swiped with the mouse to send it panning across the globe. It's going fine. We're probably going to need some more specific steps for reproducing the problem if we're going to get anywhere. Where is the map pointing at when the problem occurs. Can you reproduce it at the initial position looking at the globe without otherwise interacting with the app? If you can't reliably reproduce the problem, can you reproduce it once while using apitrace, then produce it again by replaying that trace? -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xserver-xorg-video-intel in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/976331 Title: [i965gm] False GPU lockup render.IPEHR: 0x7b009404 To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/xserver-xorg-video-intel/+bug/976331/+subscriptions ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1037237] [NEW] X starts up with only top half of screen showing
Public bug reported: System: Asus eeepc 1201 HAB netbook OS: Ubuntu 12.04 current kernel: 3.20-29-generic-gae (problem occurs with all previous kernels as well. When the system first boots up. the screen is completely blank. I have to press Ctrl-Alt-Fx (where x=1 through 6). Then I have to press Alt-F7 go get X. However X then displays only on the top half of the screen. Moving the cursor up and down shows that the desktop display is wrapping around on itself vertically. Moving the cursor up or down the length of the screen shows the cursor wrapping up from the top or bottom. I can get around this by going to the top of the screen and logging off. Then the screen comes back in full screen mode and I can log in normally. I can also do this by going into one of the ttys and finding /usr/bin/X and then killing the process (as root or sudo). The only video mode available in X is 1366 x 768. I suspect that if I chould change this, I might be able to get X to load correctly the first time. Ubuntu used to have an inittab file available and also an Xorg.conf file available that you could acrually use. The man pages for X and boot still indicate these pages exist and can be used, but this is appartnely not true anynmore. (At least, I can't find them in any usable form). I would also like to know how to configure the system to boot up without X and then try starting it up manually with startx. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 973096] Re: Nvidia driver causes xorg crash
@ag-restringere, you aren't supposed to install the drivers from the .run while X is running. if you took the time to read the README, you would have seen this: Before you Begin Before you begin the installation, exit the X server and terminate all OpenGL applications (note that it is possible that some OpenGL applications persist even after the X server has stopped). You should also set the default run level on your system such that it will boot to a VGA console, and not directly to X. Doing so will make it easier to recover if there is a problem during the installation process. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1037388] [NEW] GPU overheats with nouveau (ok with nvidia proprietary)
Public bug reported: I am using kubuntu 12.04 on an HP mini 311, desktop effects disabled. Originally I was using the nouveau driver. For the first couple of weeks I used the machine, it would suddenly and immediately shut down a few times a day, presumably due to overheating. I put the CPU through some heavy load tests which did not result in any problems, but noticed that I most frequently experienced shutdowns when viewing video. I have been monitoring one of the internal temperature sensors acpi/Thermal_zone/0/Temperature which was usually around 90C. Since switching to the nvidia proprietary driver (~2 weeks ago), I have had no problems and the temperature is around 65C most of the time. All of this leads me to believe that the nouveau driver was causing the GPU to overheat, but this is still somewhat speculative so I'd be happy to run some tests if needed.
