[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 993907] Re: [nvidia GT 240] no desktop after X started
For those who, like me, are fortunate enough to have working integrated graphics (in addition to the NVidia card), workaround available as per this: http://ubuntuforums.org/showpost.php?p=12203570postcount=8 For those who only have the NVidia card I think something similar can be attempted using the alternate text based installer. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1043132] [NEW] compiz crashed closing command window
Public bug reported: Running ubuntu 12.10 on Apple iMac 11,2. Just upgraded (included kernel 3.5.0-13) and rebooted. Ran 'top' in command window and watched compiz CPU level (seems lower now). Quit 'top' with q. Tried to close command window with red X button. No reaction and desktop froze - except for mouse pointer. Gave it a minute and switched to tty1. Switched back to tty7 and after a few seconds the desktop returned. A crash window came up... identifying compiz. I chose to restart compiz. I have had several compiz-related crashes lately, most have been unreportable due to apport not completing its process. One bug title, occuring just after this one I am reporting, was 'compiz crashed with SIGSEGV in TfpTexture::bindTexImage()'. The crash report for that seemed to hang at the web page stage, which is where I got this title. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 993187] Re: ubuntu 12.04 completely freezes frequently.
@ Jeremy and all others here. It's important to split up this bug report/ file separate bugs for certain hardware configurations and concerning (suspected) problematic packages. This thread is too long and too fuzzy to be worked on by any developer. What should he / she test? Where to start? Which package is involved? I've reported a bug report specific for my machine and related to Nvidia graphics driver and I was being helped: I've got a much much more stable system now with Nouveau drivers. Also be sure to make the appropriate dumps etc. ( http://www.cebuntu.com/how-to/how-to-report-bugs-from- terminal-in-ubuntu/ ) Others here may have problems related to Ivy bridge and certain kernelversion/ kernelmodules, others may suffer from a problem caused by whatever. You really should stop screaming here and do what's right (post separate bugs against multiple packages). I really don't agree that what we see here is weak troubleshooting. My experience is that you'll get help if (and only if) you post a specific bug, with dumps from your sytem and against a specific package. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xserver-xorg-video-intel in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/993187 Title: ubuntu 12.04 completely freezes frequently. Chris, I apologize, I am not a superuser for Linux. I went to your directory for the patch and I was not sure which file to grab and exactly how to install the patch. My USB headset is a GN 9530 from GN Netcom. If you can give me some pointers for installing the patch I am more then willing to try. I have made many changes and edits to my linux laptop as root using editors and manually installed a number of programs but I don't do it enough to recall which linux commands to use for what. I recall there is a certain command for installing .deb files. Based on my headset and laptop. I have an intel celeron processor so I suspect the i386 files would be used. I think I've hit basically the same problem Oleksij is reporting (blank eDP) when using the ASUS UX31E with an external HDMI monitor and leaving it plugged in while booting (https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=844985). Aside from the fact Oleksij uses VGA and I use HDMI, it otherwise seems to be the same issue. I ended up finding this bug report because one of the patches attached to this bug while searching for the bad panel power sequencing delays, disabling panel error message I found in dmesg. I'm also still seeing the problem Bryce described way back in the original bug report: if I use Fn+F8 to disable the internal LCD, it doesn't come back unless I do a mode change on the internal monitor. Hoho... i have a breakthrough. I think the grub makes problems. I tried to reproduce this issue on each step: bios, grub and linux. And results are fallowing: - bios (called with Fn+F2), no problems. I can normally switch between screen (Fn+F8) - grub. first problems. If bios was switched to eDP, then grub can switch (Fn+F8) between VGA and eDP. If bios was switched to VGA, then grub knows only VGA and F8 switch goes after some blinking back to VGA. If i plug VGA display after grub was loaded then, i can switch between displays. In both situations, if two displays are recognized by grub, then image on vga screen is not clean, with some kind of distortions. - linux. completely depends on grub. - windows. can some how recover after grub. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xserver-xorg-video-intel in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/946311 Title: only external screen is working with asus zenbook ux31e [eDP1] To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/xserver-xorg-video-intel/+bug/946311/+subscriptions ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 956071] Re: Xorg crashed with SIGSEGV in XIGetDeviceProperty()
The except for scrolling phrase from ThomasNovin really caught my attention because, on two laptops using xserver-xorg-input-synaptics 1.5.99.902, I have seen the touchpad become inoperable except for scrolling. I have both configured for two-finger scrolling, and when this happens, it switches to 'one-finger scrolling' with no way to move the pointer position. Sometimes it is fixed with sudo modprobe -r psmouse; sleep 2; sudo modprobe psmouse but sometimes this crashes Xorg (back to login screen). What is different, however, is that rather than happening at resume, it happens randomly, perhaps more during high CPU usage. It seems to me that the 'one-finger scrolling' is a different bug. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xserver-xorg-input-synaptics in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/956071 Title: Xorg crashed with SIGSEGV in XIGetDeviceProperty() To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/oem-priority/+bug/956071/+subscriptions ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1043562] [NEW] gm45 GPU lockup EIR: 0x00000010 PGTBL_ER: 0x00000001 IPEHR: 0x60020100
Public bug reported: I am running the compiz and unity from the product strategy PPA. This is work that should shortly land in quantal. ppa:unity-team/staging Shortly after logging in (I'm guessing around 10 seconds, which is the delay before we construct the dash view inside unity), the GPU locks up. This has happened every time I have logged in since upgrading to the latest compiz and unity. Restarting compiz makes no difference as it blocks immediately in the same place on restart. The solution is to restart lightdm. I have also had compiz crash about 10s after startup as well. I'm assuming the same root cause may be there. Ratio of crashes to lockups is about 2 to 1. Sometimes it works. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1023691] Re: [arrandale] False GPU lockup IPEHR: 0x01800002
Hi, Bug occurred when I disconnected the external display (an LCD projector) from the laptop. I have previously been plugging in and and removing the LCD, and there have been no previous issues. The only difference I can think of this time was that the laptop was on a lock screen, and I disconnected immediately after typing in my password, before I saw the desktop refresh. The window manager crashed.
