[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 993907] Re: [nvidia GT 240] no desktop after X started

2012-08-29 Thread Shreepad S
For those who, like me, are fortunate enough to have working integrated
graphics (in addition to the NVidia card), workaround available as per
this:

http://ubuntuforums.org/showpost.php?p=12203570postcount=8

For those who only have the NVidia card I think something similar can be
attempted using the alternate text based installer. Else they could
continue to use Lucid 10.04.4, where this card works just fine...

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 973096] Re: Nvidia driver causes xorg crash

2012-08-29 Thread Rocko
For me, the nvidia 304.43 driver still crashes X with Xid errors,
'attempted to yield the CPU while atomic', and 'GPU has fallen off the
bus' errors all appearing in the syslog. So it isn't fixed here.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1029265] Re: X server sometimes crashes after sleep

2012-08-29 Thread Mitten Orvan
Yes, we both seem to have integrated intel graphics.
I'll try to find my exact hardware:

$ lspci | grep VGA
00:02.0 VGA compatible controller: Intel Corporation N10 Family Integrated
Graphics Controller

$ cat /var/log/Xorg.0.log | grep Chipset
...
[ 51567.553] (II) intel(0): Integrated Graphics Chipset: Intel(R) Pineview GM
...

So it seems I have an Intel Pineview GM.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1043132] [NEW] compiz crashed closing command window

2012-08-29 Thread Peter T Hayward
Public bug reported:

Running ubuntu 12.10 on Apple iMac 11,2.
Just upgraded (included kernel 3.5.0-13) and rebooted.
Ran 'top' in command window and watched compiz CPU level (seems lower now).
Quit 'top' with q. Tried to close command window with red X button.
No reaction and desktop froze - except for mouse pointer.
Gave it a minute and switched to tty1. Switched back to tty7 and after a few
seconds the desktop returned.
A crash window came up... identifying compiz. I chose to restart compiz.
I have had several compiz-related crashes lately, most have been unreportable
due to apport not completing its process.

One bug title, occuring just after this one I am reporting, was 'compiz
crashed with SIGSEGV in TfpTexture::bindTexImage()'. The crash report
for that seemed to hang at the web page stage, which is where I got this
title.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1043171] [NEW] [Quantal] [Regression] corrupt X11 background (white) on Intel

2012-08-29 Thread Swâmi Petaramesh
Public bug reported:

Quantal, Asus EeePC 1005PE, Intel display netbook.

Screen background goes plain white instead of background image.

Hovering the mouse and right-clicking on the background causes it to
reappear.

Hovering the mouse on the Unity laucher causes white corruption to
reappear on the background.

This didn't happen before Quantal on this machine, thus this is an
annoying regression.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 36812]

2012-08-29 Thread Oded Arbel
(In reply to comment #103)
This patch breaks the keyboard layout switcher from KDE3 and Trinity. It works
correctly with the layout switcher in KDE4. Have other people tested this
 patch
with other layout switchers? What are the results?

This works fine with all switchers shipped on Ubuntu (gnome, unity,
kde4, etc.).

Answers to the questions

Laptop model. - clausoft mnw737 (meenee)
Manufacturer of the Touchpad. Synaptics - Not sure of the exact model will try
getting the information from clausoft
When the symptom first appeared. - I assume its always been present, I have
tested it on 12.04, 12:10 alpha 3 and latest kernel.

Since its being recognised as a ps2 mouse , multi touch capabilities,
scroll etc do not function.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 993187] Re: ubuntu 12.04 completely freezes frequently.

2012-08-29 Thread Hein
@ Jeremy and all others here.

It's important to split up this bug report/ file separate bugs for
certain hardware configurations and concerning (suspected) problematic
packages. This thread is too long and too fuzzy to be worked on by any
developer. What should he / she test? Where to start? Which package is
involved?

I've reported a bug report specific for my machine and related to Nvidia
graphics driver and I was being helped: I've got a much much more stable
system now with Nouveau drivers. Also be sure to make the appropriate
dumps etc. ( http://www.cebuntu.com/how-to/how-to-report-bugs-from-
terminal-in-ubuntu/ )

Others here may have problems related to Ivy bridge and certain
kernelversion/ kernelmodules, others may suffer from a problem caused by
whatever.

You really should stop screaming here and do what's right (post separate
bugs against multiple packages).

I really don't agree that what we see here is weak troubleshooting. My
experience is that you'll get help if (and only if) you post a specific
bug, with dumps from your sytem and against a specific package.

Re: [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1007575] Re: SB Arena USB headset causes X BUG, can't click outside window

2012-08-29 Thread Paul Ouellette
Chris, I apologize, I am not a superuser for Linux. I went to your
directory for the patch and I was not sure which file to grab and exactly
how to install the patch.

My USB headset is a GN 9530 from GN Netcom.

If you can give me some pointers for installing the patch I am more then
willing to try.

I have made many changes and edits to my linux laptop as root using editors
and manually installed a number of programs but I don't do it enough to
recall which linux commands to use for what. I recall there is a certain
command for installing .deb files. Based on my headset and laptop.

I have an intel celeron processor so I suspect the i386 files would be
used.

Let me know
Paul

Tested with latest commit drm/i915: move encoder-mode_set calls to
crtc_mode_set. Still same result. eDP is not detected or listed with
xrandr.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 946311]

2012-08-29 Thread Nick Coghlan
I think I've hit basically the same problem Oleksij is reporting (blank
eDP) when using the ASUS UX31E with an external HDMI monitor and leaving
it plugged in while booting
(https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=844985).

Aside from the fact Oleksij uses VGA and I use HDMI, it otherwise seems
to be the same issue.

I ended up finding this bug report because one of the patches attached
to this bug while searching for the bad panel power sequencing delays,
disabling panel error message I found in dmesg.

I'm also still seeing the problem Bryce described way back in the original bug
report: if I use Fn+F8 to disable the internal LCD, it doesn't come back unless
I do a mode change on the internal monitor. That seems to be a very different
problem though, as in that case eDP1 still shows up in the xrandr output.

2012-08-29 Thread Daniel-ffwll
My modeset-rework patchki has a few fixes for handling cpu eDP, please
test the modeset-rework git branch at

http://cgit.freedesktop.org/~danvet/drm

Nick Coghlan: There's a decent chance you have a different issue, can
you please file a separate bug with the usual information? Untangle this
bug report here will otherwise be a disaster if it later on turns out
that you don't have the same bug, but marking bugs as duplicates once
they're fixed is easy ...

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 946311]

2012-08-29 Thread Oleksij Rempel
Hoho... i have a breakthrough. I think the grub makes problems.
I tried to reproduce this issue on each step: bios, grub and linux. And results
are fallowing:
- bios (called with Fn+F2), no problems. I can normally switch between screen
(Fn+F8)
- grub. first problems. If bios was switched to eDP, then grub can switch
(Fn+F8) between VGA and eDP. If bios was switched to VGA, then grub knows only
VGA and F8 switch goes after some blinking back to VGA. If i plug VGA display
after grub was loaded then, i can switch between displays. In both situations,
if two displays are recognized by grub, then image on vga screen is not clean,
with some kind of distortions.
- linux. completely depends on grub.
- windows. can some how recover after grub.

I also was able to make grub work, just by blacklisting grub-vga module.

one more info. To compile latest intel_tools i need to upgrade to newest
xorg and intel driver. I looks like it is in bad shape now. Some part
for example text are not rerendered until it move mous pointer over it.
cIt make me currently really hard to write.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 956071] Re: Xorg crashed with SIGSEGV in XIGetDeviceProperty()

2012-08-29 Thread bitinerant
The except for scrolling phrase from ThomasNovin really caught my
attention because, on two laptops using xserver-xorg-input-synaptics
1.5.99.902, I have seen the touchpad become inoperable except for
scrolling. I have both configured for two-finger scrolling, and when
this happens, it switches to 'one-finger scrolling' with no way to move
the pointer position. Sometimes it is fixed with sudo modprobe -r
psmouse; sleep 2; sudo modprobe psmouse but sometimes this crashes Xorg
(back to login screen). What is different, however, is that rather than
happening at resume, it happens randomly, perhaps more during high CPU
usage.

It seems to me that the 'one-finger scrolling' is a different bug.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1042257] Re: Wallpaper not showing til desktop is clicked

2012-08-29 Thread filip
this happened after the updates monday 12/08/27
never had problems before, i've been on quantal since alpha 1

The background does not come back permanently, the tooltips are black and
the dropdown menus are black until mouseover
Not sure this is a Xorg bug thow, because the user from the duplicate said that
the classic
gnome is not affected, which also uses the Xserver.
from what i see we all have an intel GMA945. maybe a intel driver bug?

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1037896] Re: Starting Firefox kills xserver immediately when using 2D desktop

2012-08-29 Thread Jason Conti
This seems be fixed in the latest nvidia-current release:

nvidia-graphics-drivers (304.43-0ubuntu1) quantal; urgency=low

  * debian/rules:
- Add support for X ABI 13.
  * New upstream release (LP: #1037483):
- Added support for the following GPUs:
  o GeForce GTX 660 Ti
  o Quadro K5000
  o Quadro K5000M
  o Quadro K4000M
  o Quadro K3000M
  o NVS 510
- Fixed a bug that caused pre-release versions of
X.Org xserver 1.13 to crash when certain GLX
operations were performed, such as when starting
  Firefox.
- Fixed a bug that caused VDPAU to hang when
  expanding the YouTube Flash Player.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1043562] [NEW] gm45 GPU lockup EIR: 0x00000010 PGTBL_ER: 0x00000001 IPEHR: 0x60020100

2012-08-29 Thread Tim Penhey
Public bug reported:

I am running the compiz and unity from the product strategy PPA. This
is work that should shortly land in quantal.

ppa:unity-team/staging

Shortly after logging in (I'm guessing around 10 seconds, which is the
delay before we construct the dash view inside unity), the GPU locks up.

This has happened every time I have logged in since upgrading to the
latest compiz and unity. Restarting compiz makes no difference as it
blocks immediately in the same place on restart.

The solution is to restart lightdm.

I have also had compiz crash about 10s after startup as well. I'm
assuming the same root cause may be there. Ratio of crashes to lockups
is about 2 to 1.

Sometimes it works.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1043575] [NEW] Xubuntu 12.10 + Xorg server 1.13 = Window decoration missing

2012-08-29 Thread Paulo Narciso
Public bug reported:

I'm running Xubuntu 12.10 with the latest updates and certain themes
that use 1pix window border, like Greybird won't show title bar and
window borders.

This problem exists at least with Nvidia drivers, Vmware and Virtual
Box. And it doesn't exist in a fresh Ubuntu 12.04 with xorg server 1.11
using the same drivers.

Other people found the same issues, so I think it's a general thing.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1023691] Re: [arrandale] False GPU lockup IPEHR: 0x01800002

2012-08-29 Thread Sanjeev Gupta
Hi,

Bug occurred when I disconnected the external display (an LCD projector)
from the laptop.

I have previously been plugging in and and removing the LCD, and there
have been no previous issues. The only difference I can think of this
time was that the laptop was on a lock screen, and I disconnected
immediately after typing in my password, before I saw the desktop
refresh.

The window manager crashed. All my apps are now working, but no
launcher bar, window decorations, etc. Apport reported a stream (at
least 5) requests to report a bug, I am reporting only the first,

Regards,

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1032573] Re: Xorg crashing 5 minutes after resume with segmentation fault

2012-08-29 Thread Kevin Kong
Hey guys, I found that if you purge cache periodically, you can postpone
the crashing to a large extent, though it's still inevitable. So I guess
the problem is related to the system cache mechanism. Hope this is
useful to you!
