[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1049534] Re: [regression from 12.04] VGA Monitor uses reduced resolution
I found a way to work around the issue: $ xrandr --addmode VGA1 1280x1024 $ xrandr --output VGA1 --mode 1280x1024 but I have to do this after every reboot which is not a good solution. I also found out that EDID information is not detected correctly by the i915 drm modul, as /sys/module/drm/drivers/pci:i915/:00:02.0/drm/card0/card0-VGA-1/edid is an empty file. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xserver-xorg-video-intel in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1049534 Title: [regression from 12.04] VGA Monitor uses reduced resolution To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xserver-xorg-video-intel/+bug/1049534/+subscriptions ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1033263] Re: Ubuntu 12.04 freezes with nvidia drivers
Hi, This morning my laptop was crashed again. So the new 3.2.0.31 kernel did not resolve the problem. Laptop was sitting overnight with firefox, evolution, remote desktop and some terminals (running a ping) open. Nvidia driver is still the latest-updates version (=closed source by nvidia if i'm not mistaken). [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1056703] [NEW] Please include iMac display resolution by default in 12.10
Public bug reported: Not sure if this is the right package to request against however upon install of 12.10 today, in the Displays setting manager there is no option for the resolution of 2560x1440 which is the resolution my mac uses (using 2560x1600 leaves black borders). [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1033263] Re: Ubuntu 12.04 freezes with nvidia drivers
@ Perre. Don't think it's Java related. I've got the standard java option installed that comes with Ubuntu and my machine crashes with Nvidia Drivers. My laptop runs almost without crashed on the 173 version of the Nvidia drivers, but seems to run completely stable if I disable Nvidia drivers completely (this will activate the open source Nouveau drivers). Nouvuau drivers aren't bad at all, as long as you don't plan to run 3D games in my opinion. Perhaps you can try this? I'm still running 12.04 on an external HD to test it and I have managed to get an almost acceptable stabililty with driver version 173, but I'm currently testing without Nvidia drivers, thus with Nouveau drivers and this seems to be completely stable. There are other bugs with Ivy bridge systems etc. that cause 12.04 to come to a complete freeze, but these bugs seem to be more kernel related. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to nvidia-graphics-drivers in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1033263 Title: Ubuntu 12.04 freezes with nvidia drivers To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/nvidia-graphics-drivers/+bug/1033263/+subscriptions ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1032672] Re: fglrx-updates broken dependency with xorg-video-abi-12 (Quantal)
There's nothing that can be done until AMD release a driver that is compatible with xserver 1.13. Until then we have to either: 1) Live with the open-source driver 2) Downgrade to xserver 1.11 from precise or 1.12 from Launchpad's quantal builds 3) Find a patch that provides 1.13 compatibility. I'm happily running xserver 1.12 with the Catalyst 12.9 embedded beta driver (fglrx 9.00). [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1056381] Re: error on x startup
Quoting Timo Aaltonen (tjaal...@ubuntu.com): Can't we just pull -qxl 0.1.0? [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1057093] [NEW] Installing nvidia-current should blacklist gfxpayload
Public bug reported: The NVIDIA driver does not interact well with consoles other than plain VGA text consoles, such as vesafb. NVIDIA recommends that users run VGA text consoles in conjunction with the NVIDIA driver. Many distributions, such as Ubuntu, enable a framebuffer console by default. It appears that Ubuntu has a mechanism (via update-grub- gfxpayload) to blacklist the framebuffer console for specific hardware. It appears that the nvidia-current package includes a gfxpayload rules file, which includes a (commented out) example rule to blacklist the framebuffer console for all NVIDIA devices. I confirmed that after installing the nvidia-current package and rebooting, the system was using a vesafb framebuffer console. I edited /usr/share/nvidia-current/nvidia-current.grub-gfxpayload and uncommented the example rule, ran update-grub-gfxpayload, rebooted, and confirmed that the system was using a VGA text console. This rule should be enabled by default as part of installing the nvidia- current package. ** Affects: nvidia-graphics-drivers (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to nvidia-graphics-drivers in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1057093 Title: Installing nvidia-current should blacklist gfxpayload To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/nvidia-graphics-drivers/+bug/1057093/+subscriptions ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 966744] Re: [i965] Resume from suspend leaves me with black screen or a screen of the desktop before it suspended. Compiz hung in intel_update_renderbuffers() from intel_prepare_r
I have a Thinkpad L520 which had this problem in 12.10. I have also had this problem on an Asus machine a while back. I tried the solution I found for the Asus on my Thinkpad and it worked. This is what I did: Create a file /etc/pm/sleep.d/20_custom_ehci_hcd containing: #!/bin/sh # File: /etc/pm/sleep.d/20_custom-ehci_hcd. case ${1} in hibernate|suspend) # Unbind ehci_hcd for first device :00:1a.0: echo -n :00:1a.0 | tee /sys/bus/pci/drivers/ehci_hcd/unbind # Unbind ehci_hcd for second device :00:1d.0: echo -n :00:1d.0 | tee /sys/bus/pci/drivers/ehci_hcd/unbind ;; resume|thaw) # Bind ehci_hcd for first device :00:1a.0: echo -n :00:1a.0 | tee /sys/bus/pci/drivers/ehci_hcd/bind # Bind ehci_hcd for second device :00:1d.0: echo -n :00:1d.0 | tee /sys/bus/pci/drivers/ehci_hcd/bind ;; esac Set it 755 and owned by root. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 748308] Re: fglrx driver doesn't work because libatiuki.so.1 is not found
I have the same error, however I am well aware that I am doing wired stuff. I am trying to get the proprietary ATI driver and the proprietary Nvidia driver to exist on the same system so that I don't have to have two different ghost images for installs When I run ldd on /usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/xorg/extra-modules/extra- modules.dpkg-tmp/modules/linux/libfglrxdrm.so I get this: linux-vdso.so.1 = (0x7fffcd547000) libatiuki.so.1 = not found libc.so.6 = /lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/libc.so.6 (0x7fb8d520f000) /lib64/ld-linux-x86-64.so.2 (0x7fb8d56ef000) I am working on a short script that detects what graphics hardware are present, and then uses update-alternatives to switch between the two drivers. It doesn't seem like x86_64-linux-gnu_gl_conf or i386-linux-gnu_gl_conf cover the link to /usr/lib/fglrx/libatiuki.so.1 which is missing... [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1055236] Re: glxinfo crashed with SIGSEGV in xcb_glx_query_server_string_string_length()
It seems that you haven't restarted the X server between running your apt commands and getting the crash. That won't work; the running X server is still using fglrx's GLX, which is (as you have found) incompatible with mesa. Also, that's not the supported way of switching to the free drivers; the Additional Drivers tab of Software Sources is the supported method. What you did should work, though, after a reboot.
