[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1049534] Re: [regression from 12.04] VGA Monitor uses reduced resolution

2012-09-26 Thread iroli
I found a way to work around the issue:

$ xrandr --addmode VGA1 1280x1024
$ xrandr --output VGA1 --mode 1280x1024

but I have to do this after every reboot which is not a good solution. I also
found out that EDID information is not detected correctly by the i915 drm
modul, as
/sys/module/drm/drivers/pci:i915/:00:02.0/drm/card0/card0-VGA-1/edid is an
empty file.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1001337] Re: Display brightness is not adjustable

2012-09-26 Thread Scott Lanham
I have just installed XUbuntu 12.04 on an Asus G55VW and have the same
problem. None of the current work arounds of setting boot params or
changing xorg.conf have fixed the issue for me.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1033263] Re: Ubuntu 12.04 freezes with nvidia drivers

2012-09-26 Thread Perre
Hi,

This morning my laptop was crashed again. So the new 3.2.0.31 kernel did
not resolve the problem. Laptop was sitting overnight with firefox,
evolution, remote desktop and some terminals (running a ping) open.
Nvidia driver is still the latest-updates version (=closed source by
nvidia if i'm not mistaken).

Don't know if it is important: i'm using sslvpn (by juniper) and to use
that i've installed java_jre1.7.0* (so not the default java which is
supplied with ubuntu)

Are there any logfiles you guys like to see? Just let me know which ones
(and where to find them).

Greetz

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1056703] [NEW] Please include iMac display resolution by default in 12.10

2012-09-26 Thread Andrew Fenn
Public bug reported:

Not sure if this is the right package to request against however upon
install of 12.10 today, in the Displays setting manager there is no
option for the resolution of 2560x1440 which is the resolution my mac
uses (using 2560x1600 leaves black borders).

To workaround the issue I did the following..

 xrandr --newmode 2560x1440_60.00 311.83 2560 2744 3024 3488 1440 1441
 1444 1490 -HSync +Vsync
 xrandr --addmode Virtual1 2560x1440_60.00

At which point I could then select the resolution from Displays. My
computer is an iMac 27 Mid 2011 edition.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1033263] Re: Ubuntu 12.04 freezes with nvidia drivers

2012-09-26 Thread Hein
@ Perre.
Don't think it's Java related. I've got the standard java option installed that
comes with Ubuntu and my machine crashes with Nvidia Drivers.

My laptop runs almost without crashed on the 173 version of the Nvidia
drivers, but seems to run completely stable if I disable Nvidia drivers
completely (this will activate the open source Nouveau drivers). Nouvuau
drivers aren't bad at all, as long as you don't plan to run 3D games in
my opinion. Perhaps you can try this?

I'm still running 12.04 on an external HD to test it and I have managed
to get an almost acceptable stabililty with driver version 173, but I'm
currently testing without Nvidia drivers, thus with Nouveau drivers and
this seems to be completely stable.

There are other bugs with Ivy bridge systems etc. that cause 12.04 to
come to a complete freeze, but these bugs seem to be more kernel
related.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1032672] Re: fglrx-updates broken dependency with xorg-video-abi-12 (Quantal)

2012-09-26 Thread Jonathon Fernyhough
There's nothing that can be done until AMD release a driver that is
compatible with xserver 1.13. Until then we have to either:

1) Live with the open-source driver
2) Downgrade to xserver 1.11 from precise or 1.12 from Launchpad's quantal
builds
3) Find a patch that provides 1.13 compatibility.

I'm happily running xserver 1.12 with the Catalyst 12.9 embedded beta
driver (fglrx 9.00). While 9.00 doesn't have 1.13 support it does have
kernel 3.6 support. ;)

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1056052] Re: Launcher not showing in auto-hide mode

2012-09-26 Thread Dàrent
Today there was an update for the unity package. In the change log it
mentioned something about border detect so I thought it may be a fix.
No way. Also, I had unity installed from the unity revamped ppa to
allow permanent menus in the unity bar and that also got broken since
the official unity packages doesn't allow that option.

If it works for any of you please tell me here. Otherwise I suppose
we'll have to wait until the next unity or nvidia update.

Cheers.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1045513] [NEW] Lenovo 3000 Laptop Touchpad Not Seen

2012-09-26 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
You have been subscribed to a public bug:

The touchpad worked in 12.04 however, when immediately after upgrading
to 12.04.1 is when the touchpad stopped working. Tried many of the fixes
listed in forums with no luck. Did a xinput list in terminal as the
means to discover the touchpad was not being seen.

Will be happy to provide any additional information upon request but
will require instructions as while I am experienced in DOS/Win speak,
not so much in ubuntu/linux.

Thanks and Warm Regards.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1056381] Re: error on x startup

2012-09-26 Thread Serge Hallyn
Quoting Timo Aaltonen (tjaal...@ubuntu.com):
Can't we just pull -qxl 0.1.0? According to the git branch it should
just need spice 0.12 and xserver 1.13, latter which we already have.

 ** Tags added: quantal

If that works that should be fine. I didn't have xserver 1.13 and so
didn't test compilation of -qxl 0.1.0 with that. I only knew that it
failed.

spice, spice-protocol and qxl with proposed patches packages are built

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1032672] Re: fglrx-updates broken dependency with xorg-video-abi-12 (Quantal)

2012-09-26 Thread madbiologist
@Jaromir - compiz using 100% of CPU sounds like your system is falling
back to software rendering. That would be a separate bug but lets do a
quick check here. Please attach the output of glxinfo |grep render

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 814777] Re: Occassional mouse cursor corruption on primary display

2012-09-26 Thread Vertago1
This affects me on both fglrx, fglrx-updates, and the latest driver from
AMD (as of today 2012-09-26). I have seen it since I build this computer
with AMD cards. It only shows up on occasion and is hard to reproduce. I
am using two Radeon HD5700 cards and Kubuntu 64bit 12.04. I am using two
monitors, the problem only shows up on the primary display.

Rebooting clears the problem until it appears again.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1046088] Re: No Brightness Control on ASUS G75VW Notbook

The brightness keys are tied to a piece of hardware that needs a special

already.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1057093] [NEW] Installing nvidia-current should blacklist gfxpayload

2012-09-26 Thread Daniel Dadap
Public bug reported:

The NVIDIA driver does not interact well with consoles other than plain
VGA text consoles, such as vesafb. NVIDIA recommends that users run VGA
text consoles in conjunction with the NVIDIA driver.

Many distributions, such as Ubuntu, enable a framebuffer console by
default. It appears that Ubuntu has a mechanism (via update-grub-
gfxpayload) to blacklist the framebuffer console for specific hardware.
It appears that the nvidia-current package includes a gfxpayload rules
file, which includes a (commented out) example rule to blacklist the
framebuffer console for all NVIDIA devices.

I confirmed that after installing the nvidia-current package and
rebooting, the system was using a vesafb framebuffer console. I edited
/usr/share/nvidia-current/nvidia-current.grub-gfxpayload and uncommented
the example rule, ran update-grub-gfxpayload, rebooted, and confirmed
that the system was using a VGA text console.

This rule should be enabled by default as part of installing the nvidia-
current package.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 966744] Re: [i965] Resume from suspend leaves me with black screen or a screen of the desktop before it suspended. Compiz hung in intel_update_renderbuffers() from intel_prepare_r

2012-09-26 Thread Christian Dysthe
I have a Thinkpad L520 which had this problem in 12.10. I have also had
this problem on an Asus machine a while back. I tried the solution I
found for the Asus on my Thinkpad and it worked. This is what I did:

Create a file /etc/pm/sleep.d/20_custom_ehci_hcd containing:

#!/bin/sh
# File: /etc/pm/sleep.d/20_custom-ehci_hcd.
case ${1} in
 hibernate|suspend)
# Unbind ehci_hcd for first device :00:1a.0:
echo -n :00:1a.0 | tee /sys/bus/pci/drivers/ehci_hcd/unbind
# Unbind ehci_hcd for second device :00:1d.0:
echo -n :00:1d.0 | tee /sys/bus/pci/drivers/ehci_hcd/unbind
;;
 resume|thaw)
# Bind ehci_hcd for first device :00:1a.0:
echo -n :00:1a.0 | tee /sys/bus/pci/drivers/ehci_hcd/bind
# Bind ehci_hcd for second device :00:1d.0:
echo -n :00:1d.0 | tee /sys/bus/pci/drivers/ehci_hcd/bind
;;
esac

Set it 755 and owned by root. Now the display returns after sleep
without problems.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 748308] Re: fglrx driver doesn't work because libatiuki.so.1 is not found

2012-09-26 Thread David Butler
I have the same error, however I am well aware that I am doing wired
stuff. I am trying to get the proprietary ATI driver and the proprietary
Nvidia driver to exist on the same system so that I don't have to have
two different ghost images for installs

When I run ldd on /usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/xorg/extra-modules/extra-
modules.dpkg-tmp/modules/linux/libfglrxdrm.so I get this:

linux-vdso.so.1 = (0x7fffcd547000)
libatiuki.so.1 = not found
libc.so.6 = /lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/libc.so.6 (0x7fb8d520f000)
/lib64/ld-linux-x86-64.so.2 (0x7fb8d56ef000)

I am working on a short script that detects what graphics hardware are
present, and then uses update-alternatives to switch between the two
drivers.

It doesn't seem like x86_64-linux-gnu_gl_conf or i386-linux-gnu_gl_conf
cover the link to /usr/lib/fglrx/libatiuki.so.1 which is missing... I am
probably missing something

2012-09-26 Thread Darxus
I don't think this is the appropriate way to report this bug. You've
filed it against the weston package in the Ubuntu archives, which is not
involved. Maybe contact the maintainers of the PPA, the Ubuntu Desktop
Team?

Hi Walter -

I take it that switching to another VT, then coming back, doesn't get
you a normal display. In that case it's bug 966744. If that was enough
to restore it, then I would say it's bug 1055987. Thanks!

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1055236] Re: glxinfo crashed with SIGSEGV in xcb_glx_query_server_string_string_length()

2012-09-26 Thread Chris Halse Rogers
It seems that you haven't restarted the X server between running your
apt commands and getting the crash. That won't work; the running X
server is still using fglrx's GLX, which is (as you have found)
incompatible with mesa.

Also, that's not the supported way of switching to the free drivers; the
Additional Drivers tab of Software Sources is the supported method. What
you did should work, though, after a reboot.

Does it?
