[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1068456] [NEW] Depends on linux-headers-generic | linux-headers so linux-headers-3.5.0-17-generic is not installed kernel module is not built

2012-10-19 Thread Doug McMahon
Public bug reported:

linux-headers package is default installed but linux-headers-generic
(linux-headers-3.5.0-17-generic) is not

they figure out they'll need to manually install linux-headers-3.5.0-17-generic
 first

Re: [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 877438] Re: [8xxx] Unity/compiz has sluggish performance on dual-head with nvidia driver

2012-10-19 Thread Falk
I still have real performance problems with this gfx card on 12.04... I
guess that we have passed the eol on it with unity/complz combo.
Today I get a replacement computer with another NVIDIA Card.. And it will
be interesting to see what happens then

 Title:
[8xxx] Unity/compiz has sluggish performance on dual-head with nvidia
   driver

Status in “compiz” package in Ubuntu:
   Confirmed
Status in “nvidia-graphics-drivers” package in Ubuntu:
   Incomplete

 Bug description:
When Unity/Compiz is running with the -nvidia driver and two monitors
are connected, compiz and/or Xorg will consume CPU time (50-90% typ.)
with window activity (opening large numbers of windows, resizing,
   moving, etc.)

Disabling Sync to VBlank appears not to help.

Duplicate bug #737454 suggests it may be an issue specific to the
NVIDIA 8xxx series cards with large resolution sizes.

   [Workarounds]
The issue can be reliably worked around by either disabling one of the
displays, or disabling the Unity Plugin in CompizConfig Settings Manager

The nouveau driver on the same hardware typically does not have the
performance issue (but may have other issues such as stability,
rendering it not a valid workaround).

Some have reported that upgrading to -nvidia 290.03 solves the
problem; others report it has no effect. See
   http://www.nvnews.net/vbulletin/showthread.php?p=2493300

Some have reported that lowering the external monitor resolution to
match the laptop LVDS resolution brings performance to acceptable
   levels.

The messages are produced by Apparmor, so its running.
Check for the presence of profile abstractions/nvidia
and open the profile usr.bin.firefox if the nvidia profile is included #include
abstractions/nvidia

Apparmor profiles are located in /etc/apparmor.d/ and subdirectories.

Hi Jens,

I know Linux people like to flag similar posts as a duplicate.
The bug behavior is somewhat different between 10.04 LTS and 12.04 LTS (i.e.,
Outright freeze requiring hard reset vs. repeat going back to POST and crashing
over and over in an endless loop.).
Based on this, is it possible for you to unclear the duplicate indicator?

Regards,

fpgahardwareengineer

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1033253] Re: WebSphere Integration Developer 6.2 (Eclipse 3.4) - BPEL editor is slow for large windows

2012-10-19 Thread Rostislav Stříbrný
I've just checked that the bug is also present in latest Ubuntu: 12.10 Quantal
Quetzal.
Since nobody has been assigned to this bug I wonder, how to proceed...

I seems to me like a simple compile-time problem or something...

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1064358] Re: X in failsafe mode after installing Nvidia drivers

2012-10-19 Thread Eirik Wang
I Actually resolved this.
Seemes that an old installation had blacklisted nvidia-updates module from
loading.

After removing the blacklist from /etc/modprobe.d the nvidia driver
started working again.

The installer of the package should check if there exists an blacklist
of the module when installing, and remove this.

Next chapter of my quest
DivX/XVid is OK with nvgstplayer, but I want to play my mpeg2 (DVD) files !!!

So I recompile vlc with --enabled-egl flag.
But when I try then with opengl driver, it doesn't work with this log :

Yes, I saw that. So somewhere there May be a new bug report. I do not
know. No link to the new bugreport, no number to search on, etc.

So I'm still filing it here.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 562005] Re: Backlight controls of laptops with NVIDIA NVS and Quadro FX 880M GPUs no longer function while using proprietary drivers

2012-10-19 Thread Brendan Donegan
When certifying systems with Ubuntu, we only test with the open-source
graphics drivers installed by Ubuntu. If these do not work properly then
we will try with the proprietary drivers. So this particular system has
never been tested by us with the proprietary drivers, and it is correct
to refer to it as being certified since it apparently works fine with
the open-source ones. Is there a particular reason why the proprietary
NVIDIA driver is desirable over nouveau for this system?

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1054257] Re: [fglrx] Compiz (opengl) - Fatal: glXQueryExtensionsString is NULL for screen 0

2012-10-19 Thread RussianNeuroMancer
installing fresh FGLRX from ATI page failed to solve issue
1.
http://support.amd.com/us/gpudownload/linux/legacy/Pages/legacy-radeon_linux.aspx
fglrx 8.97 (Catalyst 12.6 Legacy) support legacy hardware (pre-HD5000) but
doesn't support xserver 1.13 so it can not work on Quantal.
2. http://support.amd.com/us/gpudownload/linux/Pages/radeon_linux.aspx
fglrx 9.00 published on AMD web-site (Catalyst 12.9 Beta, August build) is
doesn't support xserver 1.13 so it can not work on Quantal. It also doesn't
support legacy hardware.
3. https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/fglrx-installer
fglrx 9.00 published in Ubuntu repository (September build) is support xserver
1.13 but it doesn't support Radeon HD 46xx so you can not use this driver on
Quantal.

So in my opinion you most likely experience different issue. Solution
is: uninstall proprietary driver or use proprietary driver on Precise.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 993187] Re: ubuntu 12.04 completely freezes frequently.

2012-10-19 Thread Tomas Kliegr
I have the same problem on Ubuntu 12.04, all updates installed.
(image on monitor freezed, no mouse movement, no keybord). In my observation
all processes are freezed, not just the UI.

Hardware: Intel Core i5 3360M Ivy Bridge, RAM 8GB, Intel HD Graphics
4000, Intel SSD 520

The lock up appears now in average once in a day. I've experienced it
immediately after login, when working with Kile, when using Firefox,...

No problems on Windows 7 in dual boot.

Switching to Unity 2D did not help.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1067872] Re: Updating to xserver-xorg-video-intel Version: 2:2.17.0-1ubuntu4.2 busts X

2012-10-19 Thread s.chris
SORRY, this was my first bug report and i totally failed. The only
strange thing is that i ran the command but there was linux in the
affected package.

The truth is that it was NOT the xserver-xorg-video-intel update but
the update to linux-kernel-3.2.0-32.

With linux-kernel-3.2.0-31 everything works fine again. The bug was that
heavy that i temporarily had two working mouse cursors on my screen at
the same time ...

But I don't want to waste your time with my noobness ... If it does make
sense for community I can try to do a working bug-report..

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1068411] Re: 1002:9712 fglrx driver doesn't recognize my ATI RS880M Mobility Radeon HD 4200 Series

2012-10-19 Thread Emiliano
Emiliano, thank you for reporting this and helping make Ubuntu better. Please
answer the following questions:
+ Does this issue not occur in gnome-shell?
+ Did this issue not occur with a release prior to Quantal?
+ As a potential WORKAROUND, does the upstream release of fglrx work for you
following
https://help.ubuntu.com/community/BinaryDriverHowto/ATI#Manually_installing_Catalyst_12.6
 ?

Nothings really works. Gnome-Shell or Unity. The problem is when the
Quantal installation finishes and reboot my system it doesn't take my
12.4 propietary version of the Catalyst driver (Installed from Unbutu,
and 12.04 worked fine)

No, it doesn't occur prior to Quantal. 12.04 worked great.

I tried the workaround already. Tried the Using the Ubuntu
repositories, Manually installing Catalyst 12.6 (My graphic card
support was droped after 12.4) and MESA error recommendations.
Nothing.

Sorry for the delay. If any other log is needed, please ask.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1066522] Re: Nvidia-current package did not install /etc/modprobe.d/nvidia-current_hybrid.conf in Quantal (upgraded from Precise)

2012-10-19 Thread Norbert
Fresh install of Quantal does not have this bug.

** Summary changed:

- Nvidia-current package did not install
/etc/modprobe.d/nvidia-current_hybrid.conf in Quantal
+ Nvidia-current package did not install
/etc/modprobe.d/nvidia-current_hybrid.conf in Quantal (upgraded from Precise)

** Description changed:

I have Quantal with latest updates (proposed is on) on my laptop (Sony
- VAIO F13Z1R with NVIDIA Geforce GT 425M).
+ VAIO F13Z1R with NVIDIA Geforce GT 425M). System was updated from 12.04.

When I try to install Nvidia drivers (nvidia-current package) I expect that
after reboot I will get nvidia driver, but I get nouveau.
The first thing I checked was presence of blacklist files in /etc/modprobe.d/
which prevent nouveau to load. But they are absent.

During installation process there is a file /etc/modprobe.d/nvidia-
  current_hybrid.conf.dpkg-new, but then it dissapears.

  What is interesting synaptic reports
/etc/modprobe.d/nvidia-current_hybrid.conf file on 'Installed Files'. But
really it was not installed:
  ls /etc/modprobe.d/nvidia-current_hybrid.conf
ls: cannot access /etc/modprobe.d/nvidia-current_hybrid.conf: No such file or
directory

-
  Any ideas?

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1068702] [NEW] EclipseIDE icon too big in Dash, not launching on being clicked

2012-10-19 Thread Karan Luthra
Public bug reported:

The icon for EclipseIDE in the Dash home is too big than what it is
expected to be(See attachement). Also, it doesnt respond in a single
click. On clicking a couple of times, a descriptive window opens up(See
attachment). It is still not launched upon clicking the launch button.

1) The release of Ubuntu I am using: 12.10
2) The version of the package I am using, via 'apt-cache policy pkgname':
xorg:
  Installed: 1:7.7+1ubuntu4
  Candidate: 1:7.7+1ubuntu4
  Version table:
 *** 1:7.7+1ubuntu4 0
500 http://in.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/ quantal/main i386 Packages

3) What I expected to happen: The Eclipse icon to be of normal size, and
IDE to be launched on clicking.

 :
Yes, I saw that.

Great, so what is the link to the bug report you just reported?

So somewhere there May be a new bug report. I do not know. No link to the
new bugreport, no number to search on, etc.

This would be because you did not file a new report.

So I'm still filing it here.

Unfortunately, one cannot file a bug report within another original
reporter's bug report. That is not how bug reporting works, as mentioned
in https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xserver-xorg-input-
synaptics/+bug/896922/comments/21 .

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1068650] Re: Radeon hd 2400 perfectly work on 12.04 in 12.10 stop to work

2012-10-19 Thread Robert Hooker
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 1058040 ***
https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1058040

AMD stopped supporting this generation of GPU's in their fglrx driver,
and there is no release of the legacy fglrx driver that works in 12.10
yet unfortunately. I suggest subscribing to
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/fglrx-installer/+bug/1058040
which will be updated whenever we do get a proprietary driver that works
on it, or disable it completely and use the open source one.

2012-10-19 Thread MeneM
You don't understand I think. The original bugreporter maybe, perhaps,
perhaps not, decided to create a new bug report. How can I know?

I do know that creating another on my account makes no sense when there
is a perfectly good bugreport already here.

By the way, this bug report already seems to be the umpteenth one that
was opened about this issue. Do we really need another one?

Why the need to create another one?.. Whatever.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1067872] Re: Updating to xserver-xorg-video-intel Version: 2:2.17.0-1ubuntu4.2 busts X

2012-10-19 Thread Timo Aaltonen
*phew*

that was a relief, since the updated -intel package fixed a critical
bug.. so I'd rather not see any regression due to it :)

You can file a new bug by running 'ubuntu-bug linux' from a terminal.
It'll attach the relevant logs to the bug report.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1068718] [NEW] X crash with nvidia driver

2012-10-19 Thread Jean-Philippe Boudreau
Public bug reported:

I recently update to ubuntu 12.10.
I'm using an Nvidia gts 250 graphic card.
Before updating I was using Nvidia driver 302.17
But as Xserver updated this drive is not compatible anymore.
Instead I installed nvidia-current, but when I start the computer I get a black
screen. When I go into recovery console and check the Xorg.0.log I cleary see X
crashed :

I have the same problem after I upgraded to Quantal today!
I searched in Ubuntu Software Center, find that I'm using
nvidia-current-updates 304.51-0ubuntu1 which was installed on 2012-03-11 as
shown.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1068456] Re: Depends on linux-headers-generic | linux-headers so linux-headers-3.5.0-17-generic is not installed kernel module is not built

2012-10-19 Thread Fred Palmer
After install of 12.10 and reboot, it does not work. Typical black screen.
Added nomodeset to grub parameter on boot line it then does boot.
But for a new user that is a huge issue, that it just does not work.

No pop-up like previous versions on proprietary drivers are available.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1068877] [NEW] fglrx (not installed): fglrx kernel module failed to build

2012-10-19 Thread lien_meat
Public bug reported:

Using AMD's proprietary catalyst driver (12.6) from their site for my card (HD
4850), I cannot successfully build the dkms module (I think) via any method. I
tried the normal catalyst install gui with automatic install, custom, tried
building the packages via the gui, and lastly, followed this guide to try to
make it work:
http://askubuntu.com/questions/124292/what-is-the-correct-way-to-install-ati-catalyst-video-drivers
(yes I do realized this is for 12.04, but it's all I had to go on...)

I get this as output while installing the resulting
fglrx_8.970-0ubuntu1_amd64.deb file
Loading new fglrx-8.970 DKMS files...

I was told that I may not be able to have 12.6 install in quantal, but I
tried, and I'm willing to keep trying. I would just use the opensource
drivers if they weren't terrible for games and videos, but they are. If
anyone can give me guidance, or help me help everyone (cause I know I'm
not the only one) figure this out, I'm willing to do some work to make
that happen.
