Re: [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 877438] Re: [8xxx] Unity/compiz has sluggish performance on dual-head with nvidia driver
I still have real performance problems with this gfx card on 12.04... I guess that we have passed the eol on it with unity/complz combo. Today I get a replacement computer with another NVIDIA Card.. And it will be interesting to see what happens then ... Duplicate bug #737454 suggests it may be an issue specific to the NVIDIA 8xxx series cards with large resolution sizes. [Workarounds] The issue can be reliably worked around by either disabling one of the displays, or disabling the Unity Plugin in CompizConfig Settings Manager The nouveau driver on the same hardware typically does not have the performance issue (but may have other issues such as stability, rendering it not a valid workaround). Some have reported that upgrading to -nvidia 290.03 solves the problem; others report it has no effect. See http://www.nvnews.net/vbulletin/showthread.php?p=2493300 Some have reported that lowering the external monitor resolution to match the laptop LVDS resolution brings performance to acceptable levels. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 562005] Re: Backlight controls of laptops with NVIDIA NVS and Quadro FX 880M GPUs no longer function while using proprietary drivers
When certifying systems with Ubuntu, we only test with the open-source graphics drivers installed by Ubuntu. If these do not work properly then we will try with the proprietary drivers. So this particular system has never been tested by us with the proprietary drivers, and it is correct to refer to it as being certified since it apparently works fine with the open-source ones. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1054257] Re: [fglrx] Compiz (opengl) - Fatal: glXQueryExtensionsString is NULL for screen 0
installing fresh FGLRX from ATI page failed to solve issue 1. http://support.amd.com/us/gpudownload/linux/legacy/Pages/legacy-radeon_linux.aspx fglrx 8.97 (Catalyst 12.6 Legacy) support legacy hardware (pre-HD5000) but doesn't support xserver 1.13 so it can not work on Quantal. 2. http://support.amd.com/us/gpudownload/linux/Pages/radeon_linux.aspx fglrx 9.00 published on AMD web-site (Catalyst 12.9 Beta, August build) is doesn't support xserver 1.13 so it can not work on Quantal. It also doesn't support legacy hardware. 3. https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/fglrx-installer fglrx 9.00 published in Ubuntu repository (September build) is support xserver 1.13 but it doesn't support Radeon HD 46xx so you can not use this driver on Quantal. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1067872] Re: Updating to xserver-xorg-video-intel Version: 2:2.17.0-1ubuntu4.2 busts X
SORRY, this was my first bug report and i totally failed. The only strange thing is that i ran the command but there was linux in the affected package. The truth is that it was NOT the xserver-xorg-video-intel update but the update to linux-kernel-3.2.0-32. With linux-kernel-3.2.0-31 everything works fine again. The bug was that heavy that i temporarily had two working mouse cursors on my screen at the same time ... But I don't want to waste your time with my noobness ... If it does make sense for community I can try to do a working bug-report.. ** Changed in: xserver-xorg-video-intel (Ubuntu) Status: Incomplete = Invalid -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xserver-xorg-video-intel in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1067872 Title: Updating to xserver-xorg-video-intel Version: 2:2.17.0-1ubuntu4.2 busts X To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xserver-xorg-video-intel/+bug/1067872/+subscriptions ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp
[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1068411] Re: 1002:9712 fglrx driver doesn't recognize my ATI RS880M Mobility Radeon HD 4200 Series
Emiliano, thank you for reporting this and helping make Ubuntu better. Please answer the following questions: + Does this issue not occur in gnome-shell? + Did this issue not occur with a release prior to Quantal? + As a potential WORKAROUND, does the upstream release of fglrx work for you following https://help.ubuntu.com/community/BinaryDriverHowto/ATI#Manually_installing_Catalyst_12.6 ? Nothings really works. Gnome-Shell or Unity. The problem is when the Quantal installation finishes and reboot my system it doesn't take my 12.4 propietary version of the Catalyst driver (Installed from Unbutu, and 12.04 worked fine) No, it doesn't occur prior to Quantal. 12.04 worked great. I tried the workaround already. Tried the Using the Ubuntu repositories, Manually installing Catalyst 12.6 (My graphic card support was droped after 12.4) and MESA error recommendations. Nothing. Sorry for the delay. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1066522] Re: Nvidia-current package did not install /etc/modprobe.d/nvidia-current_hybrid.conf in Quantal (upgraded from Precise)

System was updated from 12.04. When I try to install Nvidia drivers (nvidia-current package) I expect that after reboot I will get nvidia driver, but I get nouveau. The first thing I checked was presence of blacklist files in /etc/modprobe.d/ which prevent nouveau to load. But they are absent. You don't understand I think. The original bugreporter maybe, perhaps, perhaps not, decided to create a new bug report. How can I know? I do know that creating another on my account makes no sense when there is a perfectly good bugreport already here. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1068877] [NEW] fglrx (not installed): fglrx kernel module failed to build
Public bug reported: Using AMD's proprietary catalyst driver (12.6) from their site for my card (HD 4850), I cannot successfully build the dkms module (I think) via any method. I tried the normal catalyst install gui with automatic install, custom, tried building the packages via the gui, and lastly, followed this guide to try to make it work: http://askubuntu.com/questions/124292/what-is-the-correct-way-to-install-ati-catalyst-video-drivers (yes I do realized this is for 12.04, but it's all I had to go on...) I get this as output while installing the resulting fglrx_8.970-0ubuntu1_amd64.deb file Loading new fglrx-8.970 DKMS files... First Installation: checking all kernels... Building only for 3.5.0-17-generic Building for architecture x86_64 Building initial module for 3.5.0-17-generic Error!
