[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1010794]
Created attachment 69139 Backported to xserver-1.13.0 The patch wouldn't apply for me, so I reapplied it by hand to xserver-1.13.0, here it is. Now, testing on OLPC XO-1.5 using the chrome video driver, I no longer see any text corruption in the GNOME fallback applications menu. However, the textual parts of some of the menu items are not appearing. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xorg-server in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1010794 Title: Graphics/text corruptions in some applications with nouveau drivers To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/nouveau/+bug/1010794/+subscriptions ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1068661] Re: 1002:6740 Unity does not load after installing fglrx-updates Radeon HD 6700M Series
I confirm that Nick Andrick's solution works for me. I have hybrid ati/intel graphics . downgrading the intel driver through his PPA as described in http://askubuntu.com/questions/202857/cant-install-ati-proprietary-drivers-in-12-10/207270#207270 Solves my problem. So I suggest you bug fixing ninjas out there focus on that intel driver. You have been subscribed to a public bug: While using nvidia-current, If I try to shutdown the machine, it goes to a black screen, backlight still on and nothing happens anymore. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1072403] [NEW] Unity and GnomeShell hang or crash with nouveau kernel error messages fail ttm_validate, validate vram_list and validate: -12
Public bug reported: Hi, since I reinstalled my Ubuntu (previous version was 11.04) my window managers have become very unstable. I believe it is nouveau's fault as I found these lines in /var/log/kern.log: Oct 28 18:00:50 jakob-Vostro-1500 kernel: [ 1454.599145] [drm] nouveau :01:00.0: fail ttm_validate Oct 28 18:00:50 jakob-Vostro-1500 kernel: [ 1454.599150] [drm] nouveau :01:00.0: validate vram_list Oct 28 18:00:50 jakob-Vostro-1500 kernel: [ 1454.599204] [drm] nouveau :01:00.0: validate: -12 The crashes appear to be nondeterministic: Most of the time, when I boot the system with external displays plugged into the VGA port, something crashes. In the worst cases the whole system crashes and only SysRq keys are working. At other times I'm still able to reach the terminal via ctrl-alt-f1. Even if the system survived, the window manager often later on hangs and displays false colors and sometimes recovers. The log files automatically attached by apport should document the latter error symptom. I'd be happy to supply more information if you can give me hints how to gather them. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1068404] Re: 1002:6760 Switchable graphics on Radeon HD 6400M not working again
Regarding the first part of the bug (Unity not working after installing fglrx), this is a known bug (when using the integrated GPU after installing fglrx, direct rendering has problems) which is now more apparent becuse it seems that Unity 2d is no longer present on Ubuntu 12.10. There is a solution for this bug, which is described in step 2 of the first message of this thread: http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1930450 I tried that myself and now Unity works even when using the integrated GPU. Regarding the second part of the bug (low graphics mode after installing fglrx and running sudo aticonfig --initial), it is probably the same bug as the one I reported (after all, PowerXpress 4.0/dynamic switchable graphics is also used on AMD Radeon HD 6770M). -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xserver-xorg-video-intel in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1068404 Title: 1002:6760 Switchable graphics on Radeon HD 6400M not working again To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/fglrx-installer/+bug/1068404/+subscriptions ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp
[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1068661] Re: 1002:6740 Unity does not load after installing fglrx-updates Radeon HD 6700M Series
regarding Unity not working after installing fglrx, the workaround is described in step 2 of the first message of this thread: http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1930450 I tried that myself and now Unity works even when using the integrated GPU with fglrx installed. Regarding the steps to install intel driver from Nick's page, I would recommend these steps: 1-go to https://launchpad.net/~andrikos/+archive/ppa/+packages?field.name_filter=field.status_filter=publishedfield.series_filter=quantal and click on xserver-xorg-video-intel - 2:2.20.0-0~andrik1 2-download the xserver-xorg-video-intel packages appropriate for the architecture (xserver-xorg-video-intel_2.20.0-0~andrik1_amd64.deb for 64-bit systems, xserver-xorg-video-intel_2.20.0-0~andrik1_i386.deb for 32-bit systems) 3-open the terminal 4-go to the directory where the packages have been downloaded 5-run sudo dpkg -i xserver-xorg-video-intel_2.20.0-0~andrik1_amd64.deb (for 64-bit systems) or sudo dpkg -i xserver-xorg-video-intel_2.20.0-0~andrik1_i386.deb (for 32-bit systems) In my case, the intel driver was enough to make the fglrx and fglrx- updates drivers from quantal/restricted repository work. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to fglrx-installer in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1068661 Title: 1002:6740 Unity does not load after installing fglrx-updates Radeon HD 6700M Series To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+bug/1068661/+subscriptions ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1064192] Re: [update request] nvidia-173.14.36 adds support for xserver ABI 13 [quantal]
Well, I assume you've done a manual installation of the .run file. In this case I strongly recommand to read the software-providers documentation b4. I've fighted my way through it a few years ago (Ubuntu 7.04 days). A manual installation does _NOT_ pull in the required package- dependencies automatically. My bad - it took me quite a while to understand this then. If you are not willing to read the documentation - Just don't do it. You'll need at least the kernel-headers-generic, DKMS, build-essential, xserver-xorg-dev. If you are stilll interested there might be a chance you can ask someone more experienced at your local Ubuntu Community. Probably there is which would even be better a local community wiki. Manual installation sometimes is o.k. Low graphics mode puts you in vesa-graphics state (repair mode). This is one of the reasons why i placed this bug. Please don't misunderstand me, per favore: This platform is for bugreporting, it's not a help-forum. B U T you gave me an idea: I'll ask the X-swat-Team to provide a version for testing in advance via ppa-x-updates. It won't be there by the next days, because atm the experts are at he UDS-R. I know at least 3 persons near your location that use+like Ubuntu, _and_ are quite good experts helpful enthusiasts. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1072531] [NEW] [regression] X11 screen blanking after 10 minutes with no UI to change it
Public bug reported: After updating from Ubuntu 12.04 Precise to Ubuntu 12.10 Quantal, X11 has started automatically blanking the screen after 10 minutes of inactivity even though I have set Turn off screen when inactive in Brightness and Lock to 1 hour. If I change Turn off screen when inactive to 1 minute, then the screen turns off after 1 minute as it should, but if I set it back to 1 hour then the screen goes back to blanking after 10 minutes, not turning off after 1 hour as it should. So it seems that there are two independent timers and the GUI has no effect on the 10 minute one. Looking in xset, there is indeed a 10-minute screen blanking timeout. $ xset q Keyboard Control: auto repeat: onkey click percent: 0LED mask: 2000 XKB indicators: 00: Caps Lock: off01: Num Lock:off02: Scroll Lock: off 03: Compose: off04: Kana:off05: Sleep: off 06: Suspend: off07: Mute:off08: Misc:off 09: Mail:off10: Charging:off11: Shift Lock: off 12: Group 2: off13: Mouse Keys: on auto repeat delay: 500repeat rate: 33 auto repeating keys: 00ffdbbf fadfffefffed 9fff fff7 bell percent: 50bell pitch: 400bell duration: 100 Pointer Control: acceleration: 2/1threshold: 4 Screen Saver: prefer blanking: yesallow exposures: yes timeout: 600cycle: 600 Colors: default colormap: 0x20BlackPixel: 0x0WhitePixel: 0xff Font Path: /usr/share/fonts/X11/misc,/usr/share/fonts/X11/100dpi/:unscaled,/usr/share/fonts/X11/75dpi/:unscaled,/usr/share/fonts/X11/Type1,/usr/share/fonts/X11/100dpi,/usr/share/fonts/X11/75dpi,/var/lib/defoma/x-ttcidfont-conf.d/dirs/TrueType,built-ins DPMS (Energy Star): Standby: 0Suspend: 0Off: 0 DPMS is Enabled Monitor is On $ Note that I am using a dual head configuration so I have an xorg0.conf and an xorg1.conf, but there is nothing in either related to screen blanking. Both heads experience the same problem. My other machine that I upgraded from 12.04 to 12.10 does not. Running xset s 0 0 avoids the problem.
