[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1039148] Re: When logging in to Unity, the Desktop session crashes
I get pretty much the same errors in the dmesg log, but the X server starts up and runs mostly alright, but after it's been running a while, starts getting wonky, like it won't respond for a long time, then suddenly comes back to life, but hangs intermittently from then on. A reboot is necessary to make it usable again. I suspect this is nVidia's bug, though I do see a few mentions via Google searches of patches made in the past to the Linux kernel surrounding the ioremap and nVidia's proprietary drivers. I've tried their newer driver, 304.60, and it's the same. I see this same behavior without using nitrogen. I simply run a daemon that regenerates the image nautilus is pointing to as the desktop background periodically. After leaving it running overnight, I get the same "Maximum number of clients reached" error. I can continue working for a while by killing nautilus, or chrome, or some other application, but I have to restart X to get back to normal again. ** Also affects: xorg-server (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xserver-xorg-video-intel in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1045899 Title: Maximum number of clients reached To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xorg-server/+bug/1045899/+subscriptions ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1078094] [NEW] tapping touchpad moves cursor
You have been subscribed to a public bug: On my acer timeline M5, when I tap on my touchpad, the mouse moves a little bit each tap. This can be reproduced by going to an area of the desktop and steadily tapping on the mousepad at a rhythm that would cause a single tap event. You can see that the mouse will move slightly during many of these tap events, which when trying to perform precise clicks (ex. closing tabs in a web browser, selecting text) may cause the pointer to move enough distance to cause an unintended mouse click. Suggested fix would be to not allow any x, y coordinate change when a tap is detected, otherwise allow the mouse movement (i.e. in the non-tap scenario). ** Affects: xserver-xorg-input-synaptics (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Tags: bot-comment cursor move tap touchpad -- tapping touchpad moves cursor https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1078094 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xserver-xorg-input-synaptics in Ubuntu. ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1077512] Re: xserver-xorg-video-intel regression, video playback not smooth on external display after video driver update
Hi again :) My brother pointer me to an old thread from year 2010 on bugzilla.kernel.org that discusses a problem that has exactly the same symptoms as mine (https://bugzilla.kernel.org/show_bug.cgi?id=16265). And this seems to have shed some light on this problem, it might have to do with the driver polling the video interfaces to see if new displays have been attached and the polling locks display updates for a while. Workaround 1 If I do: echo 0 > /sys/module/drm_kms_helper/parameters/poll after booting, then the problem goes away. Strangely if I now re-enable polling with: echo 1 > /sys/module/drm_kms_helper/parameters/poll the problem does NOT come back, it stays away until next boot. Maybe this resolves some kind of "knot" the kernel + video driver have tied themselves into. Workaround 2 Booting the machine with kernel option: drm_kms_helper.poll=0 makes the problem go away. As far as I understand these are not a real solutions, since now the machine is unable to discover new displays attached to it. This also does not explain why the problem does not exist in the intel driver package originally shipped with Ubuntu 12.04 and why it appeared in the first update. ** Bug watch added: Linux Kernel Bug Tracker #16265 http://bugzilla.kernel.org/show_bug.cgi?id=16265 -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xserver-xorg-video-intel in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1077512 Title: xserver-xorg-video-intel regression, video playback not smooth on external display after video driver update To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xserver-xorg-video-intel/+bug/1077512/+subscriptions ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

The attachment "Fix gma3600 issue on Ubuntu's Xserver" of this bug report has been identified as being a patch in the form of a debdiff. The ubuntu-sponsors team has been subscribed to the bug report so that they can review and hopefully sponsor the debdiff. In the event that this is in fact not a patch you can resolve this situation by removing the tag 'patch' from the bug report and editing the attachment so that it is not flagged as a patch. Additionally, if you are member of the ubuntu-sponsors team please also unsubscribe the team from this bug report. [This is an automated message performed by a Launchpad user owned by Brian Murray.
