[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1084434] [NEW] [drm:i915_hangcheck_elapsed] *ERROR* Hangcheck timer elapsed... GPU hung

2012-11-29 Thread Kevin Brubeck Unhammer
Public bug reported:

I had a crash last Monday on Xubuntu 12.04.1 LTS. It happened after
browsing with Firefox for some hours IIRC. I did a kernel update from
linux-image-3.2.0-29-generic:amd64 to linux-image-3.2.0-33-generic:amd64
the previous Thursday, so it might have been introduced then.

The mouse pointer was movable, everything else was still, clicking had
no effect, keyboard had no effect (e.g. tried ctrl+alt+f1, I didn't know
about alt+sysrq before now)

The laptop is a Thinkpad X220 with a hardware switch to turn off and on
all radio (wifi, bluetooth, 3G) so I tried that, it had no effect. Then
I tried ssh-ing into the machine, and apparantly network-manager was
still running and had managed to connect after I switched wifi off and
on again. From within ssh everything seemed just fine. I tried killing
firefox and restarting lightdm, this had no effect though (how does one
restart X in Xubuntu?).

I will collect more info if it happens again (saw
https://help.ubuntu.com/community/DebuggingSystemCrash after I had
rebooted), but for now I've pasted the relevant bits from
/var/log/syslog* at http://pastebin.ubuntu.com/1393943/ (all the way
down to where I hit the radio switch).

Please let me know if there's any more info I can collect, I don't know
how to provoke the bug though.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1083790] Re: Connecting external monitor shows incorrect resolution on external screen and correct resolution on laptop screen

2012-11-29 Thread Timo Aaltonen
Is this a regression from 12.10? The modesetting code in the kernel got
rewritten for 3.7, so testing with 3.5 from quantal might make it work.
Also, try without the KVM box to see if it makes a difference.

What happens if you run 'xrandr --auto' from a terminal after attaching
the external screen?

anyway), works fine on my T420s. 2.6.99.902 sounds old too :)

2012-11-29 Thread Harri Haataja
I tried the deb on Quantal as well and get the Not using GLX TFP
-problem that nvidia won't fix. So unless gnome-shell gets fixed
someday, that box will run in gnome fallback mode with bluetile. Might
as well have stuck with VESA. I think gdm even ran a bit faster with it
:)

Good confirmation to why I never voluntarily take anything with anything
by nvidia or Via inside. Sadly, I may still occasionally have to support
these things.

2012-11-29 Thread Rocko
Yes, I've been running v2.20.14 from git (using SNA, not UXA) for a few
days on Quantal and so far I hasn't seen that other bug I mentioned - it
hasn't fatally locked up after the screensaver kicks in. However, it has
experienced *this* particular bug a few times, ie where the screen locks
but I can fix it by switching to a tty terminal and back.

Re 2.6.99.902, I think I probably did a git tag command and looked at
the last entry, which is definitely old. I would have been running a
pre-v2.20.14 version at the time.

Thanks Koopee,

As this crashing is still happening to me, actually it happened 5 minutes ago,
and twice yesterday too,
so I'm going to try 3.6.0 kernel. See if it helps for me too..

Fingers crossed.

Thx

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 932900] Re: Unity freeze, crashes when trying to restart - GPU lockup with IPEHR: 0x7a000002

2012-11-29 Thread Maik Macho
I do not know if it will help either, but replacing sna with uxa in
/etc/X11/xorg.conf ( or creating a new file with these contents:

Section Device
Identifier intel
Driver intel
Option AccelMethod uxa
EndSection

) will at least make gnome-shell / unity / ... run. The problem:
graphics problems (transparency, smoothing, performance, ...).

My graphics card is defined as Mobile Intel® 4 Series Express Chipset
Family in Windows, as Mobile Intel® GM45 Express Chipset x86/MMX/SSE2
in the Settings and yells about i915 hangs in dmesg on boot-time when
running with SNA.

I would like if there will be a fix for that without changing the
AccelMethod option.

appears this problem occurred after resuming from suspend, correct? If
so, is this reproducible after cold start/restart with no suspend?

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1081009]

2012-11-29 Thread Norbert Preining
Hi Chris,

No news... Has the instadeath gone, but the slow lingering death
remains?

Well, I am running the latest patch on top of git and try to trigger the
bug, till now without success, though.

I cannot say more or less, at least the frequency has reduced.

Let me know if I can help more than just trying to trigger it again.

Norbert

(In reply to comment #80)
Chris, please let us know on top of what? On top of the bug55984 git branch
you created earlier, or is that one not necessary?

In isolation, so on top of 3.7-rc7 or drm-intel-fixes. The goal is to
both understand the issue and develop a minimal patch in time for 3.7.
So yesterday...

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1084575] [NEW] 12.04 window manager freezes during or soon after installation

2012-11-29 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
You have been subscribed to a public bug:

Apparently, the X drivers supplied with ubuntu 12.04 for a new
installation have a bug that causes a window freeze during or soon after
installation on a Dell Dimension 2400 having on-motherboard Intel video
hardware. The problem could be reliably induced by almost any
manipulation of Firefox, though other interactions also seemed to
trigger the problem. Notably, the automatic screen saver appeared to
cause a freeze 10 minutes into an initial pkg update, ultimately
resulting in a broken install.

The resolution was a driver update using ppa:ubuntu-x-swat before
attempting any user interaction in X, by logging into the console ASAP
with cntl-alt-F1. It seems these updates need to be incorporated into
the 12.04 release iso image, and into the normal repository if not
already there.

For further details, see the following thread:
http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=2089195

2012-11-29 Thread Fabio Marconi
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. This bug did not have a package associated with it, which
is important for ensuring that it gets looked at by the proper
developers. You can learn more about finding the right package at
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Bugs/FindRightPackage . I have classified this
bug as a bug in xserver-xorg-video-intel.

When reporting bugs in the future please use apport by using 'ubuntu-
bug' and the name of the package affected. You can learn more about this
functionality at https://help.ubuntu.com/community/ReportingBugs.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1080350]

2012-11-29 Thread Schmankerl
Same situation on my Lenovo T500 Notebook with the following card:
01:00.0 VGA compatible controller: Advanced Micro Devices [AMD] nee ATI RV635
[Mobility Radeon HD 3650]
If my Notebook is in IDLE-state the temperature stays about 75° and I hear the
noise of the fan nearly all the time. Heavy load increases temp to over 90° and
it will shutdown due to the overheating limits of kernel.
My workaround is switching to intel hd graphics in bios because setting power
profile to low seems to be slower than using the integrated graphics adapter.
Thats obviously no real solution because I want to use the full power of the
ati graphics card without switching to fglrx driver.

Ubuntu repository - hard froze within minutes.

Installed nouveau drivers and removed all traces of nvidia drivers.
NOTE: I had to remove the nvidia drivers in order to make my system
stable. Other posts had said that was not necessary - for me it was.

One nouveau drivers were active. I issued the following:

~$ sudo apt-get --purge remove nvidia-common nvidia-current nvidia-settings
~$ sudo apt-get install ubuntu-desktop

ubuntu-desktop was a dependency of nvidia-common and therefore removed
with the purge - that's why the install of ubuntu-desktop afterwards.

My system has been rock solid since.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1082314] Re: Raring wake up from S3 broken

2012-11-29 Thread Anca Emanuel
Can you tell when the problem started?

I installed rarring on 13.nov.2012:
http://forum.ubuntu.ro/viewtopic.php?pid=153808#p153808
Tested updates. Updated to kernel 3.7 with Software Updater. It was working.
I do not remember what other updates caused the problem.

Then I decided to test install from Live CD on 15.nov.2012
(successfully installed on 17.nov:
http://iso.qa.ubuntu.com/qatracker/milestones/243/builds/27678/testcases/1302/results

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1056511] Re: Xorg crashed with SIGABRT in memcpy() from NVRefreshArea()

2012-11-29 Thread Clint Byrum
Maarten thanks for the response re the two missing changes. Based on
your feedback (that the kwin fix can be reverted) I'm rejecting the
upload of 1:1.0.3-0ubuntu0.1

The next step is to upload again, minus the kwin fix, and with a bug
reference in the changelog about the vblank. Since it seems untestable,
just document that fact and recommend a test plan to verify vblank still
works in said bug report.

Thanks for being patient and dilligent on this.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 946417] Re: Cando Touchscreen buggy since Precise - After the first few successful clicks on the touchscreen, new clicks are not registered anymore.

2012-11-29 Thread Aptorian
This bug affects me too, with the Atmel maXTouch Digitizer touchscreen
on the new Samsung XE700T1C (aka ATIV Smart PC Pro). After a while of
touching the screen it gets locked and I'm no longer able to touch
anything... the touch events appear to get accumulated and only released
when another device clicks.

For example, if I'm using OnBoard (onscreen keyboard) to type into the
Dash or a document, and I touch a bunch of keys nothing happens, but as
soon as I click with my mouse or wacom pen, all the characters I had
previously been touching are suddenly spat out into whatever text box I
was in.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1084938] [NEW] evdev EmulateThirdButton doesn't work

2012-11-29 Thread Aptorian
Public bug reported:

My machine is the new Samsung XE700T1C-A01CA, aka ATIV SmartPC Pro. It
has the same touchscreen as the previous Series 7 slate, the Atmel
maXTouch Digitizer.

I modified /usr/share/X11/xorg.conf.d/10-evdev.conf to add the following
options to the touchscreen section:

Option EmulateThirdButton 1
Option EmulateThirdButtonButton 3
Option EmulateThirdButtonTimeout 750
Option EmulateThirdButtonThreshold 50

and restarted X. Running xinput list-props shows that these properties
are indeed set for the Atmel touchscreen device. However, when I touch
and hold my finger in the same spot on the screen, nothing happens!

I'm not sure what other files or output dumps would be useful for this
bug (I'm a programmer but consider me a user as far as this stuff is
concerned), so please let me know what else would be helpful and I will
include it.
