[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1087587] [NEW] unity does not display

2012-12-07 Thread Hicham BAROUDET
Public bug reported:

Ubuntu 12.10 upgraded from 12.04
xorg 1:7.7+1ubuntu4

I expected xorg works normally after the upgrade from precise, but
instead, unity and gnome-shell stopped displays, only gnome classic
worked normally.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1081108] Re: Xorg crash after clicking on workspace in inkscape

2012-12-07 Thread Tuomas
Copypaste from wrong, old bug report (2012-12-03): last week (28th
November) I was using inkscape without problems. I tried to downgrade
all ubuntu packages that were upgraded last week, but without success.
Now it does not work at all. My workaround is to use inkscape through
VNC.

Moreover, it seems not to be nvidia driver specific, but appears with nouveau
drivers as well.
xserver-xorg-video-nouveau version 1.0.2-0ubuntu3, Ubuntu 12.10.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 532047] Re: Plymouth text-mode splash causes X to crash on first run due to shared tty7

2012-12-07 Thread Jorge Suárez de Lis
I have this problem with a Toshiba Portegé Z930 and Ubuntu 12.04. But I
get instead a black screen with a mouse cursor and a console cursor
blinking. After pressing 2 or ENTER, lightdm starts again.

I leave a tail -f /var/log/Xorg.0.log on the tty1 before pressing 2 or
ENTER, and then I press it, and I can see the crash log. I'm attaching
it.

#105 workaround does NOT fix the problem for me. Removing the /etc/init
/plymount-splash.conf does, however.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1073372] Re: Xorg produces high CPU usage after a few days

2012-12-07 Thread Ryan Finnie
The bug you're describing appears to be different, I don't even run
empathy. telepathy-indicator and /usr/lib/telepathy/mission-control-5
are running, but produce no load.

I did track down what appears to be my problem. Most of my problems
happened when dealing with gnome-terminal, particularly when there's a
lot of scrolling text. This bug appears to be relevant, though I have
an Intel display, not Nvidia:
https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=48395

Upgrading libcairo2 and libcairo-gobject2 to the version in raring
(1.12.8-0ubuntu4) seems to fix the issue, and this was not present in
precise, so I believe there's something in Cairo 1.12.2-1ubuntu2.1
(quantal).

** Bug watch added: freedesktop.org Bugzilla #48395

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1087767] [NEW] Mode selection buggy on P4M900

2012-12-07 Thread aanno
Public bug reported:

On P4M900 I was not able to change the mode/resolution as desired with
the xrandr command. Montor is a small TFT touchscreen with 800x600
native resolution. As this is a TFT refresh rate/clock is restricted
around 60Hz. However VGA-1 output is wrongly identified as
'(1280x960+0+0)':

$ xrandr --fb 800x600 --fbmm 800x600 --rate 60
xrandr: specified screen 800x600 not large enough for output VGA-1
(1280x960+0+0)

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1068404] Re: Low graphics mode in Hybrid ATI/Intel GPU systems after fglrx upgrade

2012-12-07 Thread Nick Andrik
** Description changed:

After installing the latest fglrx-updates package on Ubuntu 12.10
(fglrx-updates_9.000-0ubuntu3_amd64) I have the same issue that was
present before AMD fixed switchable graphics on PowerXpress 4.0 cards
(such as my HD 6470M coupled with the intel HD Graphics 3000 of my intel
Core i5-2430M). The X server has a segmentation fault and the low
  graphics mode is activated.

WORKAROUND: Follow carefully the instructions here:
  https://help.ubuntu.com/community/BinaryDriverHowto/ATI#WORKAROUND

As per Nick Andrik, this is a version regression of xserver-xorg-video-
intel from 2.20.2 (working and in below mentioned PPA) and 2.20.3. The
  regression commit is http://cgit.freedesktop.org/xorg/driver/xf86-video-
  intel/commit/?id=05dcc5f1699ba90fc14c50882e8d4be89bc4a4f9 .

ATTENTION: If your system includes an old ATI GPU card (Radeon HD 2x00 3x00
4x00) which is not supported any more by fglrx drivers, then probably you
suffer from this bug:
  https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/fglrx-installer/+bug/1058040
  Subscribe and comment there please.
+
+
+ If the X server loads (so you see no low graphics mode window) but you get no
menu bars, window decorations, etc, then press Ctrl+Shift+T to open a terminal,
write in there:
+ compiz --replace
+ and post a comment with the result.
+

The logs from the intial bug report follow:

2012-12-07 Thread Gregory Wells
Still haven't gotten a fix to this issue. My Xorg.conf doesn't have any
xfs font paths. This started as soon as upgraded to Ubuntu 12.04 LTS.
Anyone with a vetted fix???

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1068404] Re: Low graphics mode in Hybrid ATI/Intel GPU systems after fglrx upgrade

2012-12-07 Thread Alfred Neumayer
The fix that has been merged into fglrx is still incomplete in regards to 32
bit compatibility on a 64 bit host OS.
If you want to run old games like Counter Strike 1.6 on the Intel GPU, you
can't.
That's because of 2 reasons:
1) The path to #OTHER_ARCH# DRI libs is missing (/usr/lib/i386-linux-gnu/dri)
2) When doing:

amdconfig --px-igpu
cat /etc/ld.so.conf.d/x86_64-linux-gnu_GL.conf

it shows that ldconfig should count in /usr/i386-linux-gnu/mesa as a valuable
path for libraries, but this path does not exist.
Instead, this path should be used: /usr/lib/i386-linux-gnu/mesa/
Symlinking the wrong path to the right one by hand is a nice hack, but it's a
hack.
I'm a little disturbed that nobody ever noticed this mistake. Maybe I'm the
only one who likes to play old games on the IGPU.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1084938] Re: evdev settings doesn't work at all

2012-12-07 Thread Trent Piepho
The problem with the coordinate transform matrix not working is solved
by this patch: http://patchwork.freedesktop.org/patch/12471/

These touchscreens sometimes only send one axis if the other axis hasn't
changed. The server would take the new untransformed X axis sent by the
screen and the saved, *post-transform*, value of the Y axis, and then
apply the transform to that. The patch fixes it to take the new X axis
and a saved pre-tranform Y axis and transform that.

I can also confirm that emulate third button appears to be totally non-
functional with an atmel touchscreen.

Awesome, thanks!
Just for reference, this is the workaround for the DRI path problem that I've
done
and been using for 2 months now, seems to be working fine.
This goes straight into /etc/X11/Xsession.d/

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1087794] [NEW] Synaptics touchpad registers single finger touches as multitouch

2012-12-07 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
You have been subscribed to a public bug:

I am using an HP Mini 311. This is a new issue that did not occur in
12.04. The touchpad is now recognized as a synaptics device, after only
being recognized as a USB mouse in 12.04.

Seemingly randomly, after a resume from suspend, the touchpad appears to
be unresponsive. Only with a high pressure will the mouse cursor
move. This generally means using the pad of my finger rather than the
tip. Occasionally this will continue after a reboot, but usually
rebooting fixes it.

After examining synclient, it appears that what is happening is that
normal single finger touches on the pad are being recognized as two or
even three finger touches. I've attached a file from synclient both
while the touchpad was working and when it was not. None of the
synaptics settings have changed from one to the other, so the issue
probably doesn't lie there.

Please let me know if there is some other information that would be
helpful.

Thanks for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu

to be a regular (non-security) bug. I have unmarked it as a security
issue since this bug does not show evidence of allowing attackers to
cross privilege boundaries nor directly cause loss of data/privacy.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1086463] Re: Boot Info Script 0.61.full + Boot-Repair extra info [Boot-Info November 20th 2012]

2012-12-07 Thread Marc Deslauriers
Thank you for using Ubuntu and taking the time to report a bug. Your
report should contain, at a minimum, the following information so we can
better find the source of the bug and work to resolve it.

Submitting the bug about the proper source package is essential. For
help see https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Bugs/FindRightPackage . Additionally,
in the report please include:

1) The release of Ubuntu you are using, via 'cat /etc/lsb-release' or System -
About Ubuntu.
2) The version of the package you are using, via 'dpkg -l PKGNAME | cat' or by
checking in Synaptic.
3) What happened and what you expected to happen.

The Ubuntu community has also created debugging procedures for a wide
variety of packages at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/DebuggingProcedures .
Following the debugging instructions for the affected package will make
your bug report much more complete. Thanks!

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1084938] Re: evdev settings doesn't work at all

2012-12-07 Thread Trent Piepho
Upon looking at the code in evdev, it's clear the third button emulation
is completely non-functional for multitouch devices.

The emulation is triggered by calling Evdev3BEmuFilterEvent() from
EvdevPostQueuedEvents() in evdev.c. This is done for events of type
EV_QUEUE_BTN only. With a multitouch touchscreen, events of this type
aren't generated. Instead, the events are EV_QUEUE_TOUCH, which will
never trigger the 3BEmu code.

These touch events don't work the same way as button events, so it's not
a simple matter of passing them to Evdev3BEmuFilterEvent() too.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1085262] Re: whole computer freezes and logs out (see attached picture)

2012-12-07 Thread Alexander T. Stanton
I switched my graphics card to this (
http://pastebin.ubuntu.com/1417862/ ) and it seems to have solved my
problem. I believe that the problem was in that my old Graphics Card
didn't have the proper driver (or something like that).

Hope this helps.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 993187] Re: ubuntu 12.04 completely freezes frequently.

2012-12-07 Thread Rabit rabit
FYI, this bug is for hard system Crash only!.

You can't do anything with the system other than reboots (actually in my
case, it will reboot itself in about 20 seconds). No Ctrl-Alt-F1, no
SSH, nothing)

And Yes... still happening.. Just crashed again.. Seems pretty random.
Can't see usefull logs either.

So is this ubuntu thing or kernel thing? I can't believe we still
can't figure that out even after 568 comments here.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 353126] Re: Compiz / vnc screen refresh with nvidia-restricted driver/VirtualBox/ATI fglrx driver using X.org

2012-12-07 Thread Josh
I have discovered a useful workaround:

Splashtop.

It is a much more functional remote desktop solution than VNC or Vino.
It has sound. You can play 3D games over it and even Second Life works
beautifully.

And it's available in the Ubuntu Software Center for free.

This really should be the default remote desktop. It blows Microsoft's
Remote Desktop away.

If you need a desktop client it's under other products on the
Splashtop App download page.
