another gdb backtrace and got this

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 195051]

The component field of this report says Radeon. It's unlikely for fglrx
and radeon to be affected by one and the same bug. It's possible that
fglrx has a similar bug though.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1069031] Re: intel gma3600: X unable to start

2012-12-24 Thread Hollis Blanchard
Correction: the package is available for Quantal. However, I had
xserver-xorg-core 2:1.13.0-0ubuntu6 installed, and ...ubuntu6.1 was not
installed automatically as an update. Once I manually ran "apt-get
install xserver-xorg-core", it installed the update and X worked.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1056819] [NEW] There is no libgl1-mesa-dri-dbg:i386 in the xorg-edgers PPA

2012-12-24 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
You have been subscribed to a public bug:

There is a bug in the Radeon r300 DRI drivers (r300_dri.so) in the :i386
version.
I first filed a bug report in here
http://bugs.winehq.org/show_bug.cgi?id=31800, but the Wine guys pointed out
that the problem is driver related and has to be fixed upstream.
The problem is that I cannot file a meaningful bug report to freedesktop.org
without debug symbols.

There is a libgl1-mesa-dri-dbg and a libgl1-mesa-dri:i386, but for the latter
there is not package containing the debug symbols available:
There is no libgl1-mesa-dri-dbg:i386 package, defeating the purpose of the
xorg-edgers PPA.

(Since there seems to be no way to file a bug at
https://bugs.launchpad.net/~xorg-edgers, I've reported my issue here.
Please do not close the bug report without further instructions how to report a
bug at the very PPA in question!)

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1057510] [NEW] login into xsession fails with xsession-errors "not a valid identifier"

2012-12-24 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
You have been subscribed to a public bug:

In my .bashrc I have defined a function named ‘l.’ to list dot-files only.
This has worked with all linuxes so far and does not give any error with bash
when I source .bashrc so I regard it as an allowed function name.
After I upgraded to ubuntu12 I get the following entry in my .xsession-errors
/root/home/bmdadm/.bashrc: line 70: `l.’: not a valid identifier
I have commented the function and then get
cat .xsession-errors
/etc/bash_completion.d/apport_completion: line 107: `_apport-bug’: not a valid
identifier

It seems that the unitiy Xserver has some bugs or flaws as it complains about
identifiers which are allowed syntax in bash.
There are other bash_completion packages which also use '_' as the first
characters so the Xserver needs to accept those variable or function names.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1069031] Re: intel gma3600: X unable to start

2012-12-24 Thread Hollis Blanchard
I must be missing something about the released fix. My Quantal system
doesn't seem to have an xorg-server package at all, but it does have
xorg-1:7.7+1ubuntu4. It seems like xorg-server might be a Raring-only
package?

In any case, a fresh install of Quantal with all updates applied on an
Acer Aspire One D270 still results in un-startable X server. :-(
Xorg.0.log matches the initial comment in this bug.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1066660] [NEW] Mouse doesn't move

2012-12-24 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
You have been subscribed to a public bug:

This problem happens with Lubuntu 12.04 in almost unchanged
configuration. My mouse model is Logitech M505 USB optical wireless.

With a 1:5 chance, the mouse arrow wouldn't move after startup. I boot
directly into my account (no login necessary). After that, I can see
the mouse error and I can even click a button which coicidently happens
to be under the mouse pointer. However, I cannot move the mouse
pointer. In most cases, a reboot solves the problem for the time being.

This has never happened with any Ubuntu version I used (since 2007), so
many it is a LXDE issue.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1057000] Re: [Ubuntu 12.04.1/12.10] nVidia drivers 304.51 prevent autohidden Unity launcher from revealing

2012-12-24 Thread Lesseps
Using nvidia-graphics-drivers-experimental-310 drivers *also* fixed it
for me!

However, having other machines with the same problem, this did not seem
a reasonable solution, so unblocked and removed nvidia-graphics-drivers-
experimental-310 using synaptic, and now *nouveau* is the driver in use.

In other machines, installed "lubuntu-desktop" and switched to use it,
instead of "ubuntu-desktop", even with nouveau.

Some people, who did not know what to do nor how to run programs without
the launcher, reinstalled the whole system, due to this bug, so I agree
with comments that find this a *critical* bug.

Autohidden works now with nouveau, but not perfectly: sometimes pointing
the mouse to the left edge just show a "left arrow", the launcher only
appearing after some attempts. This makes one think that something is
wrong with the launcher, either software or configuration.

Just to give more information, some data from one machine:

Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make

is important for ensuring that it gets looked at by the proper
developers. You can learn more about finding the right package at

You have been subscribed to a public bug:

Not sure if it's Compiz or Unity.

When I log in, half of the times Unity seems to crash. It seems to
recover every time when waiting for maybe a minute or so. Switching to
another shell and starting up unity works. I stumbled on these syslog
lines, which is all it logged during the event:
