[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1101696] [NEW] Just diagnosing with program .... a trial run

2013-01-19 Thread shaju
Public bug reported:

I have not much to add about this finding as the finding itself is highly tech,
beyond my knowledge. all what i can say is during last installation where i was
using a pendrive , evrything went Ok but the hard disk failed or crashed or
disappeared on rebooting ,(not listing) from then on. So I used to install the
Usb net version on to another USB of 4 GB. I am using the USB disk version now
. something wicked happened may be a bug.
  Because there is not enough space on the installed USB disk 4GB,an additional
USB of 16 GB is linked with.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1100970] Re: transparent dash background flickers on intel graphics

2013-01-19 Thread Daniel Kessel
I did a quick test with precise, and there can confirm that there is no
flickering when using precise. I have not tested quantal.

It is not only flickering, but there is also one redraw problem in the
lower left corner. I will attach a screenshot.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 957298] Re: Mouse is very slow after starting a session on Precise

2013-01-19 Thread Michael von Glasow
Works for me too. I've tried

#echo N> /sys/module/drm_kms_helper/parameters/poll

manually every time I had the issue, and that would fix it. Now I've
automated the step. Not sure if it has any side effects, though.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 957298] Re: Mouse is very slow after starting a session on Precise

2013-01-19 Thread Endre Kollár
Thanks Chris Cheney! The events hasn't come for a long time.

http://git.kernel.org/?p=linux/kernel/git/stable/linux-
stable.git;a=commit;h=e58f637bb96d5a0ae0919b9998b891d1ba7e47c9

"Polling for a VGA device on an old system can be quite expensive,
causing latencies on the order of 600ms. As we hold the mode mutex for
this time and also need the same mutex to move the cursor, we trigger a
user-visible stall."

Old system?

"The real solution would involve improving the granulatity of the
locking and so perhaps performing some of the probing not under the lock
or some other updates can be done under different locks. Also reducing the
cost of probing for a non-existent monitor would be worthwhile. However,
exposing a parameter to disable polling is a simple workaround in the
meantime."

Why not default at least?

"This is coupled to the user calling xrandr"(not automatically when
polling is disapled) "since the information on the connection has just
been updated."(from the newly connected screen)

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1041063] Re: mouse pointer periodically leaps to left and top of screen with absolute pointing devices

2013-01-19 Thread bradleyd
for what it is worth, I have had similar issues. As I move the mouse
(12.10) it frequently jumps to the top of screen. I can only describe
this as a 'reset' to top center. I am not running Virtualbox and have
tried different mouse configurations ( usb, bluetooth, etc..) On a
hunch I tried removing the 'psmouse' module and the 'reset' has stopped.
Not sure why psmouse was the cause of this, but wanted to share in case
that helps anyone else.

Take care

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1075035] Re: 1002:9452 fglrx graphics broken on upgrade with AMD FireStream 9250

2013-01-19 Thread Christopher M. Penalver
Dave Lentz, this report is not the same as bug 1058040 as the scope of
1058040 is HD2000-4000 series cards, and a Firestream 9250 is not a part
of that series.

As well, as per AMD, a fix for HD2000-4000 series cards in Ubuntu 12.10+
is not planned, and the newest release available for those cards was
provided on 7/24/2012 as per
http://support.amd.com/us/gpudownload/linux/legacy/Pages/legacy-
radeon_linux.aspx .

However, AMD has recently and explicitly provided a beta release for the
Firestream 9250 on 12/3/2012 as per
http://support.amd.com/us/gpudownload/linux/Pages/radeon_linux.aspx?type=2.11.1&product=2.11.1.3.3&lang=English
. However, they did not explicitly note it is covered under 13.1 (which
provides Ubuntu 12.10 support).

AMD has been contacted to confirm if the Firestream 9250 is covered
under 13.1 or not, and if/when Ubuntu 12.10 support will be available.
we are awaiting their response.

If you have any questions about this or any other fglrx report, please
direct them to the Ubuntu X team at
https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-x .

Thank you for your understanding.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1101827] [NEW] Rotate monitor crash when Sandy Bridge activated

2013-01-19 Thread Spyou
Public bug reported:

When trying to rotate a monitor (either my main or my external one) with
Sandy Bridge activated, it crash and log me out from my session.

Works fine when I disable Sandy Bridge option in Xorg.conf.

Reproduced on last 3.5 kernel in available in 12.10 repos and on
3.8.0-030800rc2-generic.

Reproduced while using the display manager or running

xrandr --output HDMI2 --mode 1920x1080 --pos 0x0 --rotate left --output
LVDS1 --mode 1366x768 --pos 1080x0 --rotate normal --output DP2 --off
--output DP1 --off --output VGA1 --off;

EDIT:

Forgot to add that I can reproduce this in both Unity and Openbox env.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1071101] Re: nearly every other boot I get "Low Graphics Mode" message.

2013-01-19 Thread Lulzim
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 1070150 ***
https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1070150

I am having the same issue with a system with dual vga nvidia optimus
and intel (I don't use nvidia proprietary drivers or any thing). I would
be happy if intel starts always correctly.

I tryed to compare log files of xorg and they start differentiating with line
"setversion 1.4 failed"
In the good log file (the one that system starts normally) the order of loading
moduls is:
[ 6.071] (==) Matched intel as autoconfigured driver 0
[ 6.071] (==) Matched nvidia as autoconfigured driver 1
[ 6.071] (==) Matched nouveau as autoconfigured driver 2
[ 6.071] (==) Matched nv as autoconfigured driver 3
[ 6.071] (==) Matched intel as autoconfigured driver 4
[ 6.071] (==) Matched vesa as autoconfigured driver 5
[ 6.071] (==) Matched modesetting as autoconfigured driver 6
[ 6.071] (==) Matched fbdev as autoconfigured driver 7
[ 6.071] (==) Assigned the driver to the xf86ConfigLayout

in the other one the secuence is:
[ 7.362] (==) Matched nvidia as autoconfigured driver 0
[ 7.362] (==) Matched nouveau as autoconfigured driver 1
[ 7.362] (==) Matched nv as autoconfigured driver 2
[ 7.362] (==) Matched intel as autoconfigured driver 3
[ 7.362] (==) Matched vesa as autoconfigured driver 4
[ 7.362] (==) Matched modesetting as autoconfigured driver 5
[ 7.362] (==) Matched fbdev as autoconfigured driver 6
[ 7.362] (==) Assigned the driver to the xf86ConfigLayout

as you can see, it seems like the drivers are recing which one has to
start first and if intel starts first it works other wise fails.

 if you need both full log files or any thing I can do to help please
let me know.

another problem I have (not sure if related) is that when starting with a
second monitor connected the system hangs with a black screen.
this happens after selecting to boot on ubuntu (I have dual boot sytem).

The problem is that cc points to clang and CC is set to clang. To be
able to install nvidia-current, the environment must be preset to

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1101688] Re: xdiagnose 3.4 installation failed with syntax errors

2013-01-19 Thread Bryce Harrington
No, it looks like the original issue is indeed fixed by 3.4.1, however
there's also another error in the apport script (which is weird; it
worked just fine on my system). I've split that out as #1101800 and
will work on a fix for it.

2013-01-19 Thread Bryce Harrington
The original issue with welcome.py is fixed in 3.4.1, but I also noticed
an error was hit with the apport hook, so am redefining this bug report
to focus on that latter issue.

The apport hook passed its tests and runs fine for me locally, but
apparently it is slightly different when run under apport in an actual
install. I've repro'd the error and will work on a fix.

I am experiencing the same problem with Xubuntu 12.04, Xorg open source
ati driver ,and an AGP X1950Pro 256M video card.

Right after login i land to a black screen, by pressing Ctrl-Alt-F1 i can log
to a tty and see what is happening in the log.
When i enter
tail -f syslog
and then switch back to CTRL-Alt-F7, and the press Ctrl-Alt-Num+ (to switch to
next available resolution), then the original error message appers in the
tailed log:

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1101912] [NEW] nvidia-current does not install prereqs for building kernel module, resulting in broken graphics

2013-01-19 Thread Tristan Schmelcher
Public bug reported:

I have a freshly-installed, up-to-date Ubuntu 12.10 amd64 machine (Dell
XPS M1710 with GeForce Go 7900 GS). I installed nvidia-current from the
Additional Drivers tab of Software Sources and it said it succeeded, but
upon reboot graphics were busted. The display was low-resolution and
Unity failed to start. It appears that nvidia-current did not pull in
the prerequisites for building the nvidia kernel module:

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1101919] [NEW] Display brightness is stuck at lowest setting on GeForce Go 7900 GS

2013-01-19 Thread Tristan Schmelcher
Public bug reported:

I have a Dell XPS M1710 with a GeForce Go 7900 GS and freshly-installed,
fully up-to-date Ubuntu 12.10 amd64. When using Nouveau (the default),
it is impossible to adjust the display brightness. Moving the slider in
Brightness and Lock has no effect on the actual display brightness. The
Fn keys for brightness also have no effect (except to move the slider).
Worse, even though the default slider position is the max, the actual
brightness is the lowest-possible setting, making the machine
effectively unusable with Nouveau.

The proprietary NVIDIA drivers do work (and are active at the time of
reporting this). I am happy to provide more info if needed.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 164589] Re: Occasional screen-wide "blink" when using opengl apps (compiz also) and Nvidia cards

2013-01-19 Thread Tristan Schmelcher
Good news! No repro on freshly-installed, fully up-to-date Ubuntu 12.10
amd64 using nvidia-current (version 304.51.really.304.43-0ubuntu1). I
tested Unity, GNOME Shell, and GNOME Classic (No Effects) with glxgears
and YouTube and I verifed that PowerMizer was switching performance
levels. Never saw any blinking.

I'm leaving the bug status as Expired since technically 12.10 doesn't
use the 180-series drivers.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1064329] Re: High CPU load (above 50%) on Xorg process when browsing low graphic intensive sites

2013-01-19 Thread Aristotelis
I can confirm this bug but I'll have to disagree with Karl. This problem
seems to be unrelated to the DE in use as I am experiencing it on
Openbox, LXDE and Unity.

I can easily reproduce this bug by accessing any type of HTML5 website.
Here are some examples:

http://fff.cmiscm.com/#!/main
http://sidigital.co/
http://www.whitehouse.gov/issues/preventing-gun-violence

As for CPU load when moving around windows, the CPU usage does seem to
be higher than necessary (~15% on LXDE at the specs outlined below). Is
this how it's supposed to be?

Some additional information:

- reproducible both with FF and Chrome
- mean CPU load on HTML5 website ~30% with Core i5 @ 2.66GHz
- graphics: AMD HD5650 Mobility Radeon on FGLRX (Catalyst 12.6)

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1071278] [NEW] "Show Details" for GPU hang opens "Apport" alert

2013-01-19 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
You have been subscribed to a public bug:

Ubuntu 12.10

1. Start Ubuntu on a machine for which it triggers a GPU hang.
2. If bug 794757 has not yet been fixed, click "Report problem" and enter your
password.
3. In the error alert, click "Show Details".

What happens: Another alert appears on top. "Apport has detected a
possible GPU hang. Did your system recently lock up and/or require a
hard reboot?"

What should happen:
* I'm not asked any extra questions, because this is a release version of
Ubuntu.
* The word "Apport" is never used in the UI.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1020140] [NEW] “'precise' is no longer under development”

2013-01-19 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
You have been subscribed to a public bug:

Today when trying to use some keyboard shortcuts to navigate (mainly Alt
+ Tab, I'm not really sure which combination) I managed to crash Compiz.
Then, in the middle of the crash report, Apport shows me this:

"""
'precise' is no longer under development, but technical support is still
available and will give you quicker results than filing a bug here.
ALso, if you do have a bug, we will give it higher priority if you've gone
through technical support channels first.
"""

Image of the window: http://i.stack.imgur.com/kAak9.png
I'm running the latest release, with the latest updates (updated a few days
ago). I wouldn't expect such a message.
And no, I'm not using the beta. I installed this machine from a release ISO.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1005573] [NEW] Apport should not present the user with non-actionable information

2013-01-19 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
You have been subscribed to a public bug:

What is expected to happen?
When the dialog is shown, the user is taken through the steps to report a bug

What actually happens?

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1020140] Re: “'precise' is no longer under development”

2013-01-19 Thread Bryce Harrington
Hmm, there are 4-5 different problems discussed in this bug report, but
none in sufficient detail to take any action on.

For compiz crashes, file bug reports against compiz.

If a change in the error dialog wording or functionality is desired,
file a bug report against xdiagnose with your recommended changes. For
problems with Chrome or Skype, file bugs against those packages.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1101696] Re: Just diagnosing with program .... a trial run

2013-01-19 Thread Edward Donovan
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. Unfortunately, we cannot work on this bug because your
description didn't include enough information. You may find it helpful
to read "How to report bugs effectively"
http://www.chiark.greenend.org.uk/~sgtatham/bugs.html. We'd be grateful
if you would then provide a more complete description of the problem.

We have instructions on debugging some types of problems at
http://wiki.ubuntu.com/DebuggingProcedures

At a minimum, we need:
1. the specific steps or actions you took that caused you to encounter the
problem,
2. the behavior you expected, and
3. the behavior you actually encountered (in as much detail as possible).
Thanks!
