[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1096308] Re: Soundcloud listening in Midori results in desktop crash

2013-01-22 Thread Will Dierenfield
Ok, I can't reproduce it anymore. I had it happen twice in a row within
20 minutes of each other, then once the next day. I haven't run into the
problem since, having run soundcloud on midori 7 times. I did update
twice between 2013-01-06 and 2013-01-21, but cannot say if any
particular update was influential. The bug, at least for me, no longer
exists. I should add that I haven't experienced any more X crashes of
any kind since the last crash on 2013-01-06.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1103236] [NEW] Choppy and pixelated video on Macbook Air 5, 1. Unable to run/view HD videos at all

2013-01-22 Thread Charles Lease
Public bug reported:

*** I reported this as a question on Ask Ubuntu and was told this is a
bug. http://askubuntu.com/questions/245584/choppy-and-pixelated-video-
on-macbook-air-5-1-unable-to-run-view-hd-videos-at-a ***

I'm currently running 13.04 and the video is extremely choppy and
pixelated on any video program I run (vlc, mplayer, totem etc.), any
flash or html5 videos, and HD videos won't play in a reasonable way at
all (entire frames get skipped and video footage is completely
distorted; I would say it's about 10 FPS on HD videos, really extremely
bad quality). Also, I had this exact problem on 12.04 and 12.10 and was
kind of hoping 13.04 would be better, but it is not. Video in Mac OSX
works excellent, no lag or quality loss, works perfect in that OS. I

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1103226] [NEW] package fglrx (not installed) failed to install/upgrade: subprocess installed post-removal script returned error exit status 1

2013-01-22 Thread Joshua Bakita
Public bug reported:

I was trying to uninstall all the AMD drivers by running sudo apt-get remove

It seemed to work fine by running the command again.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1102654] Re: [raring] full screen video crashes after Intel SNA enabled by default

2013-01-22 Thread Alin Andrei
Any video does this. Also, full-screen skype calls freeze the computer
as well. The same for youtube videos played in HTML5. I don't know how
to get the i915_error_stat if the system is frozen...

As for the mplayer configuration, now I'm using only defaults in
Smplayer or GNOME Mplayer and it still freezes ("xv" video output"). So
to replicate it, all I have to do is start playing a video with a
mplayer-based video player in full-screen, that's all.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1102654] Re: [raring] full screen video crashes after Intel SNA enabled by default

2013-01-22 Thread Bryce Harrington
Please attach your mplayer config and/or command line arguments you're
using for running it.

Also, can you tell us or share the video? It can help developers to
reproduce the problem.

The i915_error_state file must be collected *while* the system is
frozen, so I'm not sure the i915_error_state you provided is going to
match up to the actual error state.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1103171] [NEW] Xorg freeze

2013-01-22 Thread Balazs
Public bug reported:

Since I upgraded to Ubuntu 12.10. I experience problem with booting. Usually I
have to restart couple of times (1-5 times) to see the login screen and hear
the drums sound.
It shows the NVidia driver logo, then shows the mouse cursor with black
background. Touchpad is responsive for 2-3 seconds then blank screen is shown
and stuck there.

I have tried 'vesafb.nonsense=1' and deleting 'spalsh quiet' kernel
params, no luck.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1103058] Re: fglrx (not installed): fglrx kernel module failed to build

2013-01-22 Thread Anthony Harrington
Yeah, it seems i got my hopes up too soon when i read the phoronix
article: http://www.phoronix.com/scan.php?page=news_item&px=MTI4MDE

After nearly half a year, the new driver for 'legacy' users i.e. my gpu
was made 3 years ago (ancient i know!), has been released and it seems
to be purely for fixes related to playing games on steam. Not unwanted
in itself, but that it's still capped on the X version it's compatible
with (and the kernel? will it work on 3.5-3.8?) is really disappointing
- and seriously hampers upgrading the OS to the next version.

Tomasz, we are indebted to you for making such a useful PPA, but i wish
it wasn't necessary and that we wouldn't be waiting another 6 months or
more for the next version, so i can finally use fglrx with a more
uptodate kernel. The opensource radeon driver is great visually, but
significantly worse at power management :(

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1103058] Re: fglrx (not installed): fglrx kernel module failed to build

2013-01-22 Thread Tomasz Makarewicz
As far as I checked 13.1 legacy do not provide script for Quantal, so
you will need to do "--buildpkg Ubuntu/precise" instead of "--buildpkg
Ubuntu/quantal".

Also X-Server 1.13 is still not supported. You will need to downgrade to 1.12.4.
I am not sure how it support kernel 3.5 - will need to check it.

When I will be sure, that everything is working fine on my testing machines I
will update this ppa:
https://launchpad.net/~makson96/+archive/fglrx
So don't wory about manual install :)

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1103162] [NEW] after successful login got black screen, tty works

2013-01-22 Thread Attila Pados
Public bug reported:

package designation may be wrong, i only know the symptoms, and now
luckily the workaround, this is my best guess

I have a dual monitor setup, with 2 crt monitors, an ATI X1950AGP video card,
Xubuntu 12.04
the problem was that after after a successful login instead of getting the
desktop screen i got black screen, no video signal on any of the video monitors

i could press CTRL-ALT-F1 log in to tty, and look for logs,
-> [drm:drm_mode_getfb] *ERROR* invalid framebuffer id
this was in the syslog, so i was looking for video card and drm errors,
meanwhile installed fglrx, then uninstalled it, play with package downgrades etc

rarely from the planty of tries and restarts the machine gave me the
desktop, i didn't understood why, but saved the logs from this, so i
could compare with the logs that don't work

here is the good one, from Xorg.0.log

-> marks the different lines, and also the EDID for DVI-1 was a much shorter
list in the bad log, than the good log
then i recognized what could cause this: i usually switch on only the "main"
monitor, and leave the other powered off, this causes the EDID not be able to
read properly, which in turn makes the graphic driver to switch to a resolution
that fails

this theory was right, so i can use my computer now, just watch out for
having both monitors switched up

i suppose this behaviour is not normal, and i wrote this down here in
case others have the situation, help them

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 993187] Re: ubuntu 12.04 completely freezes frequently.

2013-01-22 Thread Lutz Andersohn
Forever it's worth, this problem affects me as well in the "nothing moves"
version, i.e. no mouse,. no keyboard, nothing.
I experienced this in Classic Gnome (gnome-session-fallback) as well as in kfce.
I am running an hp with intel i7 cpu, Intel ivy bridge graphic (It has a hybrid
graphics board, have not had the crash when using the nvidia during game
playing using bumblebee). My kernel is 3.2.0-31-generic #50-Ubuntu SMP Fri Sep
7 16:16:45 UTC 2012 x86_64 x86_64 x86_64 GNU/Linux

I considered Ubuntu/Linux to be a rock solid OS, far superior to anything else
out there. Now I must say, my Windows box runs more reliable than 12.04, a very
sad development.
I think it's an outrage that this bug is marked as "Won't fix" in an LTS
release.

My first of this type happened today, even though I've already been
using SNA before since August or so. If this now starts to be recurring
(since I also started to have bug #1102390 only yesterday), I can try
disabling the semaphores.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1080233] Re: Apport thinks 12.04.01 isnt LTS

2013-01-22 Thread Kangarooo Jānis
** Description changed:

  Apport thinks 12.04.01 isnt LTS
+ Then why is needed such info that it isnt in development? I didnt asked if
its under development it told me that by itself. Support means it still will be
developed better with bug fixes and that called support. Why then is needed to
say it isnt in development? No one cares about that. Small percentage only trys
it while before release so its irrelevant for users such information. It
confuses and makes think i got failed version witch thinks it isnt LTS.

** Changed in: xdiagnose (Ubuntu)
   Status: Invalid => New

** Summary changed:

- Apport thinks 12.04.01 isnt LTS
+ Apport gives useless information 12.04.01 about not beeing in development

I can reproduce the flickering (and the rendering issue in the lower

suggesting that dash blur is rendered with an incorrect offset.
