[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1103680] Re: [sna] Hard hang when logging in

2013-01-25 Thread Timo Aaltonen
Could you provide the Xorg log from the hanging session? It should be
Xorg.0.log.old after you've rebooted. Although it's possible that the
system is unable to log anything at that point..

try a mainline kernel snapshot as well:

http://kernel.ubuntu.com/~kernel-ppa/mainline/drm-intel-

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1096943] [NEW] Ubiquity freezes during nfs-based desktop install from recent live destkop images on physical hardware

2013-01-25 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
You have been subscribed to a public bug:

I'm attempting to do automated installs of raring live desktop images
over a network on physical machines using a combination of cobbler and
NFS. Since December 20, these installs have failed on i386 and amd64.
DI installs from current server images work, and old images work fine
for ubiquity installs. At some point during the installation, video
stops updating. I started an install with an active SSH server and I
was able to run apport that way, but the local video still does not
update. This is on a machine Canonical's magners lab. I've looked at
lp:1080701 but removing all partitions before installing doesn't seem to
help. Please let me know what other information I can gather.

could you try grabbing this xorg.conf, and changing 'sna' to 'uxa':

then drop it in /etc/X11 and reboot.

I attach the corrected patch which can be added to the current Quantal

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1103680] Re: [sna] Hard hang when logging in

2013-01-25 Thread Christopher Townsend
I've attached the Xorg.0.log.old for you viewing pleasure:)

I also tried the latest mainline kernel as you suggested and still get
the hang.

Instead of reverting the package, I modified that Xorg.conf file you
provided earlier and changed AccelMethod sna to uxa and of course it
works now.

One other thing that occurred to me in. This machine is a pre-
production version of a Dell Inspiron N5110 which is borrowed from
PES. The BIOS is a pre-production BIOS and I have no way to upgrade it
to the A Rev production BIOS. I wonder if that is playing into this
since no one else seems to be affected by this (yet).

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1096943] Re: Ubiquity freezes during nfs-based desktop install from recent live destkop images on physical hardware

2013-01-25 Thread Timo Aaltonen
So the veriton is a gen3 machine (atom D425) while the other one
mentioned on irc (HP Pavilion Slimline s5-1224) is gen7 (ivybridge).
Still can't see what broke them after Dec 20th, highly unlikely it was
the driver upload on 17th.

@shayne,
which version of 3.8 exactly are you using? Can someone else confirm that 3.8
is good?
Seems like I read somewhere it still freezes.

2013-01-25 Thread Jamin W. Collins
The attached script disconnects all currently attached bluetooth devices
on suspend, thus completely avoiding this bug.

Place the script in /etc/pm/sleep.d/10_bluetooth-input, and ensure that
its executable.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1105389] [NEW] Arrandale GPU hangs occasionally after libdrm2 upgrade to 2.4.39-0ubuntu0.1

2013-01-25 Thread Geoff
Public bug reported:

After yesterday's upgrade of libdrm-intel1, libdrm-nouveau1a, libdrm-
radeon1 and libdrm2 to 2.4.39-0ubuntu0.1 on Ubuntu 12.04, my Arrandale

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 969154] Re: Unable to set 1920x1080 resolution in Ubuntu 12.04 Beta2 as a VMWare Workstation 8 guest

2013-01-25 Thread Tobias Beer
@karanganesha04  @chris-m-solomon:

Are you sure that this does actually set the resolution and not only
stretches whatever resolution is actually set to cover the entire
screen? ...at least this is what happens for me when I try your method.

As for the xorg.conf fix: I had no luck with that as neither it does
exist on my machine nor was I able to create one properly.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1105422] [NEW] User jailed using gnome-terminal fullscreen and gpg

2013-01-25 Thread yoones
Public bug reported:

How to reproduce the bug:
- Open gnome-terminal and set full screen mode (F11)
- Execute $ gpg -d ./file
- After the input box pops up, click on the terminal

I can't use the keyboard anymore, I can't right click, I'm stuck.
First way out: manual reboot.
Hack around: maybe ssh to your computer to kill the process.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1064192] Re: [update request] nvidia-173.14.36 adds support for xserver ABI 13 [quantal]

2013-01-25 Thread jno
Hi all,
I managed to load and install this new nvidia-173 driver from quantal-proposed
restricted (173.14.36).
Installation on my ubuntu 12.10 amd64 seems to be Ok, load of nvidia driver
seems to be correct while booting for my Geforce FX 5700 LE (I don't find any
error in logs). BUT Unity fails to start at login (see x-0-greeter.log
attached).
I need to manualy restart Unity from a terminal session to access desktop on X
and then no launcher and no windows headers are displayed. Through CCSM, I have
deactivated all effects, tried to unselect/reselect unity plugin to resolve
conflicts with other plugins (CCSM signals plugins that have to be
deactivated...) but no result !
Any idea about my issue ? Is this driver supposed to be Unity compatible ?

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1103680] Re: [sna] Hard hang when logging in

2013-01-25 Thread Timo Aaltonen
[25.596] (WW) intel(0): Detected unsupported/dysfunctional hardware,
disabling acceleration.
[25.836] (WW) intel(0): cannot enable XVideo whilst the GPU is wedged
[25.836] (WW) intel(0): loading DRI2 whilst the GPU is wedged.

so the reason it fails with sna is that even though it's broken pre-
production hw, DRI2 is loaded whereas with uxa it isn't.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1064192] Re: [update request] nvidia-173.14.36 adds support for xserver ABI 13 [quantal]

2013-01-25 Thread Oscar Andreis
Unity will not start even in my case. I don't use it because (I hate it) and it
need too many video card resources. You can check if your video card supports
Unity with this command (you should have all 'yes''):
/usr/lib/nux/unity_support_test -p

In my case Gnome-shell too has these behavior: the environment start partially
and remains unusable.
Use KDE, enable the graphics effetcs too, and enyoj!

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1105510] [NEW] [radeon] regression from 3.5.0-22 from 3.5.0-21 for multi-monitor setups

2013-01-25 Thread Will Rouesnel
Public bug reported:

Upgrading to kernel 3.5.0-22 from 3.5.0-21 has broken my multiple
monitor setup using the open-source radeon driver. My DVI monitor
suffers from display corruption when booting, and can only run in mirror
mode with my second VGA monitor. Plugging in only one monitor fixes the
problem, but only allows the one display to be used.

Booting into kernel 3.5.0-21 fixes all issues and everything operates
normally.

I believe this is related to kernel changes in the DRM/radeon drivers
made upstream and first spotted in xorg-edgers a while back in #1093753,
although the proposed commit patch there did not resolve all issues.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1020051] Re: Xorg freeze

2013-01-25 Thread Ulrich Schäfer
I'll file details from two machines where I can confirm bug tomorrow.

This bug seems to affect amd64 and/or ATI hardware only.
The bug appeared first 4-6 weeks ago, there were no such problems before, and
all the updates from the last weeks didn't solve the problem.

As reported, the screen freezes, mouse pointer movable, but no clicks /
keyboard work.
It is possible to login via Alt+F1 and kill X so that it restarts.

The freezes I have seen (still today after yesterday's Precise updates)
always occurred with a Firefox with graphics/video plugin ins active,
never on pure text windows (e.g. Openoffice, emacs, eclipse).

All machines I'm reporting on below are updated regularly and run fairly
standard Ubuntu 12.04 LTS with Compiz/Unity and the standard graphics
drivers that Ubuntu suggests/installs automatically.

Two machines with almost identical hardware *do have* this bug:
Athlon 4050e (Asus M2A-VM) with AMD 690G Chipset - Integrated ATI Radeon
X1250-based graphics

The following machines *do not have* this bug although software is almost the
same (but different CPU and graphics boards):
- a Mac mini 2010 with Intel Core2 Duo P8600 and Nvidia graphics
- a Lenovo Thinkpad T60p with Dualcore Pentium and ATI graphics (machine must
be approx. 6 yrs old)
- a Samsung NC10 netbook with Intel Atom N270 and Intel GMA 950

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 990436] Re: Xorg with fglrx on ATI HD3650 crashes with Illegal instruction

2013-01-25 Thread Dan Guevarra
I can confirm that this issue still exists on Ubuntu 12.04.1 (32-bit)
and affects fglrx versions 8.950 (Catalyst 12.2) on AGP systems. The
issue is also present on the most recent Catalyst 13.1-legacy. I tested
this on a VIA KT400 chipset, so the issue is not exclusive to
nforce2-based systems.

Since the Xorg.0.log backtrace points out the fglrx_dri.so library, I
tried rebuilding the 12.4 and 13.1-legacy debs using the 12.2 versions
of fglrx_dri.so and fglrx-libGL.so.1.2 which I believe are needed to
enable DRI. Surprisingly, the modified 12.4 drivers boot to desktop
without error. The modified 13.1-legacy, however, reaches the desktop
with GLX hardware acceleration disabled. I'm going to stick with
Catalyst 12.2 for now, as replacing the dri and libGL libraries in newer
versions is prone to be buggy.

As far as I can tell, whatever changes AMD's driver team made to
fglrx_dri.so and fglrx-libGL.so after Catalyst 12.2 broke our AGP
systems.

My config:
- Graphics: Radeon HD 2600 XT AGP
- CPU: AMD Athlon XP 2000+ (1.6 GHz, 32 bits)
- Chipset: VIA KT400
- RAM: 768 MB DDR-SDRAM
- Version kernel-3.2.0-36
- Ubuntu version: Xubuntu 12.04.1 (32 bits)

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 905074] Re: [nvidia] corrupted display on dual monitors

2013-01-25 Thread Jim Petersen
Noticing this behavior in Bodhi Linux 2.2.0, which is based on Ubuntu
12.04. Bodhi uses Enlightenment e17 window manager/desktop env. I notice
that even though the screen saver doesn't leave the screen, the desktop
is responsive to mouse and I can choose the menu option to restart
Enlightenment, which clears everything up until the next xscreensaver
activation.

This bug also seems to appear in Firefox windows, where a Downloads pop-
up window will seemingly not dismiss properly after the file has
completed downloading, although it has in fact dismissed. If I restart
Enlightenment, Firefox is still there but the Downloads window is then
dismissed.

Interestingly, this is a dual-monitor nVidia setup, and the other
monitor clears the screensaver properly and I am back to the desktop. It
seems perhaps the primary monitor in nVidia settings has the issue.

The driver for Precise seems to hang in the upload/unapproved queue? No
build of a *.deb

https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/nvidia-graphics-drivers-
updates/304.64-0ubuntu0.1

Probably it could help to set the priority from low to something higher.
The initial changelog date tracks back to November 2012

Similar situation on nvidia-common...

Thanks for helping to make Ubuntu more compatibel with other linux-
distros
