[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1125413] Re: LTS xserver backport packages want to remove xorg xserver

2013-02-16 Thread Gergely Csépány
The main problem for me is that lots of packages depend on some packages
that need to be removed for the upgrade. There the upgrade would delete
wine, acroread, steam, nvidia-current, etc. lots of essential (for me at
least) packages. I believe that it is due to some wrong dependencies,
since eg. acroread and wine should work with newer xserver as well.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1126949] Re: xserver-xorg-video-intel-lts-quantal dependency problem on steam

2013-02-16 Thread Abhisek Mukherjee
Now it appears that steam:i386 package actually depends on libgl1-mesa-
dri package, which is related to xserver-xorg-video-intel. And it
appears completely as wrong, unmentioned dependency in steam:i386
package.

** Package changed: xserver-xorg-video-intel-lts-quantal (Ubuntu) =
mesa (Ubuntu)

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1125759] Re: Intel integrated graphics boots in low graphics mode

2013-02-16 Thread Adam Bruce
Does it boot up properly more often if you add 'plymouth.enable=0' to
the kernel boot options?

So I removed the /etc/X11/xorg.conf file and added plymouth.enable=0
to the boot options (after quiet splash - correct?)

And no, it does not boot up properly, it still goes to low graphics mode

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1125759] Re: Intel integrated graphics boots in low graphics mode

2013-02-16 Thread Chris Wilson
Can you attach the crashing Xorg.0.log from that boot, as I'd like to
see if the nouveau failure is related to that race? I don't think it is,
but it will be interesting nevertheless.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1058040] Re: fglrx-installer not working with AMD Radeon/Mobility Radeon HD 2000-4000 cards in Quantal

2013-02-16 Thread Christopher M. Penalver
Alberto Milone, thank you for addressing this bug report. I agree that
due to licensing restrictions, the Ubuntu project is legally forced to
not fix AMD's driver for them. As well, from my terse interactions with
their customer service department, they are not concerned with their
customer's products being broken at a driver level, unless it's new
products. However, should we let this cause angst among the Ubuntu
Community to see if we may WORKAROUND their bug in a license permissive
way, on an an-hoc, special exception basis?

Granted this is wishful thinking, and more than easier said then done.
However, if someone comes up with something, it would be cool. if not,
thanks for checking in anyways, and trying to take care of us. :)

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 993187] Re: ubuntu 12.04 completely freezes frequently.

2013-02-16 Thread Rabit rabit
@rsoika,
I don't think it is ivy bridge related because my hardware is not ivy bridge.
I'm using older Core2Duo cpu and Geforce 7600GT with older intel chipset. I
forgot what it's called but definitely not sandy or ivy bridge. It is a legacy
time tested hardware that shouldn't have had bugs problems (in theory).

This bug is so random it's really hard to pinpoint the problem.
The last three days it happened several times a day. But today, actually from
last night, I haven't had any freeze at all, almost 24 hours.
This time, I've played all kind of video music and streaming videos such as
youtube with no freeze which usually caused to freeze almost definitely. But
not today, I don't know why. I didn't do any update at all.

Must be a very very difficult bug to track I think.

Hmm, they should make sense to the bot, but I don't know what tools I
need to use on ubuntu to decode them. As it stands it didn't have the
information I was looking for.

There should be /var/log/lightdm/:0.log (and friends). See if you can
find one that corresponds to the crash upon boot.

None of those pauses correspond to blocking in -intel. If you can still
reproduce the issue, grab a stacktrace of X during the delay. (If you
are correct in your assertion, then X will also pause if you run it
manually.)

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1125413] Re: LTS xserver backport packages want to remove xorg xserver

2013-02-16 Thread bitsparrow
I've the same problem and I hope a solution in these days. It's probably
a problem of name because when i try to install software like wine,
teamviewer co. apt asks me to remove these packages:

libgl1-mesa-dri-lts-quantal libgl1-mesa-glx-lts-quantal
  libglapi-mesa-lts-quantal libxatracker1-lts-quantal
  x11-xserver-utils-lts-quantal xserver-common-lts-quantal

  xserver-xorg-lts-quantal xserver-xorg-video-all-lts-quantal
  xserver-xorg-video-ati-lts-quantal xserver-xorg-video-cirrus-lts-quantal
  xserver-xorg-video-fbdev-lts-quantal xserver-xorg-video-intel-lts-quantal
  xserver-xorg-video-mach64-lts-quantal xserver-xorg-video-mga-lts-quantal
  xserver-xorg-video-modesetting-lts-quantal
  xserver-xorg-video-neomagic-lts-quantal
  xserver-xorg-video-nouveau-lts-quantal
  xserver-xorg-video-openchrome-lts-quantal
  xserver-xorg-video-r128-lts-quantal xserver-xorg-video-radeon-lts-quantal
  xserver-xorg-video-s3-lts-quantal xserver-xorg-video-savage-lts-quantal
  xserver-xorg-video-siliconmotion-lts-quantal
  xserver-xorg-video-sis-lts-quantal xserver-xorg-video-sisusb-lts-quantal
  xserver-xorg-video-tdfx-lts-quantal xserver-xorg-video-trident-lts-quantal
  xserver-xorg-video-vesa-lts-quantal xserver-xorg-video-vmware-lts-quantal

I said it's a problem of name for these packages because wine and other
software don't support the new names of xorg. Please solve these problem before
Ubuntu 13.04-day.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1125413] Re: LTS xserver backport packages want to remove xorg xserver

2013-02-16 Thread X-O
Sorry i forgot to mention in comment #2 that i first tried to update the amd64
variant of the xorg-server from kubuntu-precise 12.04.1 to the quantal backport
before (update of quantal-kernel was no problem). But it resulted in a
DEFECTIVE xserver installation with only black screen after reboot and no
chance to do do anything. Switching to console with strg-alt-F1 was not
possible. The system installation was nearly fresh and only 1 or 2 weeks old
and i had latest amd release drivers installed for a radeon hd 7750.
Sadly i didn´t manage to repair this, so i made fresh install from ubuntu
12.04.2 and then added kubuntu-desktop with the issues in comment #2.

2013-02-16 Thread Don Daniels
I have sold that computer so I can no longer test it. Since no one else had
problems, let's just close it out and assume the new distro fixed it.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 755841]

2013-02-16 Thread Michael+freedesktop
(In reply to comment #113)
vsync seems to be fully working now on SNB/IVB with 2.21 and kernel 3.8, so
the remaining issue is to get TearFree solid and performant for all use
 cases.
Thanks for working on this.

I have upgraded to Linux 3.8-rc7 and xf86-video-intel 2.21.2 on my
ThinkPad X200 (Intel GM45) and on my workstation (Sandy Bridge GT2).

On my X200, I can use the TearFree option without any side-effects. If I
enable it on my workstation though, the result of terminal commands such
as ls -hl or ps auxf often lags — the lines appear one after another,
just like on a serial connection. Just wanted to let you know in case
you were not aware of that yet.

Let me know if you need any more details.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1081108] Re: Xorg crash after clicking on workspace in inkscape

2013-02-16 Thread AleksanderAdamowski
I experience the same problem if I disable the touchpad using Xinput
using this script:

#!/bin/sh
for device in 'PS/2 Mouse' 'ImPS/2 Generic Wheel Mouse' 'AlpsPS/2 ALPS
GlidePoint'; do
  /usr/bin/xinput set-prop $device 'Device Enabled' 0
done

It's then enough to launch Inkscape and click on the empty workspace to
have X crash. The stacktrace in Xorg log is the same (even the relative
address offsets are identical).

If I disable the touchpad then reenable it using this script, I can use
Inkscape safely:

#!/bin/sh
for device in 'PS/2 Mouse' 'ImPS/2 Generic Wheel Mouse' 'AlpsPS/2 ALPS
GlidePoint'; do
  /usr/bin/xinput set-prop $device 'Device Enabled' 1
done
