[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1158293] Re: xserver-xorg-video-intel causes xserver to crash
i have also been affected by this bug, but i think it is not from xserver-xorg-video-intel. instead i believe it is due to some change in the kernel. i have a core i5 based system using the integrated graphics, on a p8h67-m pro motherboard. i am running 12.04. when an update came out in mid-march, the system would have constant crashes and hangs upon loggin in to the desktop. the characteristic behavior of the bug is that there will be graphics glitches, such as flashing, text changing to gibberish, temporary hangs that may recover--but sometimes don't. however, the mouse pointer always works. i tried a few things to help isolate the bug, such as reformating and reinstalling ubuntu, trying different versions of xserver-xorg-video-intel, and different versions of the kernel. the version of xserver-xorg-video-intel does not affect the behavior (at least compared between the original version in 12.04, which is 2:2-17.0-1ubuntu4.1, and the updated version, which is 2:2-17.0-1ubuntu4.3). 64 bit vs. 32 bit install of ubuntu 12.04 does not affect the behavior. what does cause the crashing is using a recent kernel, especially 3.2.0-39-generic, but 3.5.0-23 also has the bad behavior. in contrast, the original kernel from 12.04 (3.2.0-29-generic) is rock-solid stable. kernels in between these 2 seemed hit or miss: up to 3.2.0-32 appear stable, but later kernels sometimes would hang at boot (at the purple screen after grub), or hang while running, while other times they would behave ok. however, 3.2.0-39 is terrible. booting into a virtual terminal (text mode) is stable even with the new kernels. i did manage to catch some errors in one of the sessions (either kernel 3.5.0-23 or 3.2.0-39, not sure which) in the xorg.log--here is the section (these were just after the modelines): (EE) [mi] EQ overflowing. Re: [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1153816] Re: computer freezes and/or report a GPU error message
yes, I read somewhere that there was a problem with the intel video drivers that Ubuntu reports on (but not Windows even though it occurs under Windows as well), but I don't know what to do about it, and every solution I have tried does not work. I am waiting patiently for the new version of Ubuntu next month, but it hampers my work quite a bit right now. *André Talbot* On 2013-03-29 15:51, Domenico wrote: I formatted the PC, I installed 12.04.2: no problem. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 985202] Re: libx11 causes kwin to crash on login (over NX protocol)
Hi all, I just tested the new libxrandr2 package on precise with X2Go and nx- libs 2:3.5.0.20. The kwin crashes are gone, indeed. So far so good. However, the NX capability of resizing a non-fullscreen desktop session window is completely gone now. Expected behaviour: o Start a (KDE) session with a geometry of 1024x768 in non-full screen mode o Resize the NX agent window (i.e. maximize it or drag with the mouse pointer on one of the window corners o Expectation: the desktop shell inside resizes all its elements and adapts to the new desktop size What happens: o the desktop shell stubbornly remains at its initial geometry (1024x768 in this example) and refuses to adapt its elements to the new desktop session window size Greets, Mike (from X2Go upstream) -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to libxrandr in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/985202 Title: libx11 causes kwin to crash on login (over NX protocol) To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/xorg-server/+bug/985202/+subscriptions ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 1155902 *** https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1155902 ** Description changed: If I install nvidia-experimental-310 driver from packages or from nvidia, I have a black screen at Launch (before logging in). [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1162408] [NEW] little horizontal black lines sporadically appear
Public bug reported: Some little horizontal black lines sometimes appear on the Ubuntu desktop. They disappear quickly, and there seems no obvious way to force the event to occur predictably.
