[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1179311] [NEW] Single click on folder sometimes opens it
You have been subscribed to a public bug: The following new behaviour was detected today in Ubuntu 12.04: In Nautilus - single left clicking on folders sometimes opens them instead of highlighting them - this is reproducible but only randomly This bug is attributed to Nautilus, but I suspect a deeper problem. During the main test session, single left clicking on Nautilus in Unity Launcher just below Dash would hide all open windows. A large image of the Workspace Switcher icon would flash up on the desktop on top of the just opened Nautilus window. A reboot eliminated this Launcher flakiness. I'm still waiting on a mmiotrace from the nvidia driver. http://people.freedesktop.org/~mlankhorst/mmiotrace-nvidia.sh is a script that automatically does such a trace if you kill the xserver first. Install quantal: The system should boot fine Install the proprietary fglrx package and reboot: The X server crashes on startup [Regression Potential] * This solution does not need any change on the intel driver (as a previous workaround needed). * No regressions have been reported so far using this most recent fglrx upstream, by the people affected by this bug == After installing the latest fglrx-updates package on Ubuntu 12.10 (fglrx-updates_9.000-0ubuntu3_amd64) I have the same issue that was present before AMD fixed switchable graphics on PowerXpress 4.0 cards (such as my HD 6470M coupled with the intel HD Graphics 3000 of my intel Core i5-2430M). The X server has a segmentation fault and the low graphics mode is activated. WORKAROUND: Follow carefully the instructions here: https://help.ubuntu.com/community/BinaryDriverHowto/ATI#WORKAROUND As per Nick Andrik, this is a version regression of xserver-xorg- video-intel from 2.20.2 (working and in below mentioned PPA) and 2.20.3. The regression commit is http://cgit.freedesktop.org/xorg/driver/xf86-video- intel/commit/?id=05dcc5f1699ba90fc14c50882e8d4be89bc4a4f9 . Upstream fglrx has published a new version ( 13.1 ) of the driver which seems to solve this issue. No need to revert the commit in the Intel driver any more. ATTENTION: 1. If you choose the integrated GPU (via Catalyst or via amdconfig --px-igpu) and your X server crashes on startup, then your are probably affected by this bug: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/fglrx-installer/+bug/1088220 2. If your system includes an old ATI GPU card (Radeon HD 2x00 3x00 4x00) which is not supported any more by fglrx drivers, then probably you suffer from this bug: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/fglrx-installer/+bug/1058040 Subscribe and comment there please. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1002788] Re: Using the touchscreen breaks normal device left clicking
I'm using an up-to-date Raring install. I have this problem still, which appears to be tied in some way to operations which tax the hardware in some way, but I'll get back to that later. What is interesting in that when the bug occurs, rendering the unity dash and GTK apps unusable with the touch screen, nautilus is now the one application which continues to work flawlessly. I've tried using the xorg-edgers PPA to fix the issue but because it's an all-or-nothing approach (you have to update every package in the ppa), it renders Unity completely unstable - appears to be an intel graphics regression causing massive slowdown whenever transparency or blurring is used (Unity dash search, logout dialog etc) so I had to ppa- purge and I can't tell if it fixed the issue. With regards to the hardware taxing, it appears that the touch screen is usable on boot up until any operation which seems to take a little longer than usual. For instance, I have a custom built GTK application which utilises a GtkToolPalette (https://developer.gnome.org/gtk3/3.4/GtkToolPalette.html) which has a nice smooth animation for opening the category. Whenever I tap one of these headers with the touch screen, without fail, I can reproduce this exact bug. It still happens occasionally with other tasks, but this happens every time. I wonder, with it possibly being performance-related, whether or not this makes it harder for devs to reproduce the error? Either way, I'm happy to provide any help I can with this bug, just let me know. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xorg-server in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1002788 Title: Using the touchscreen breaks normal device left clicking To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xorg-server/+bug/1002788/+subscriptions ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

The crash trace is at http://pastebin.ubuntu.com/5661477/ and is currently fixed in MESA by commit http://cgit.freedesktop.org/mesa/mesa/commit/?id=b6920764207 ** Affects: mesa Importance: Unknown Status: Unknown ** Affects: mesa (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: Confirmed ** Changed in: mesa (Ubuntu) Status: New = Confirmed ** Bug watch added: freedesktop.org Bugzilla #61182 https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=61182 ** Also affects: mesa via https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=61182 Importance: Unknown Status: Unknown -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to mesa in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1179539 Title: r600_dri.so crashes in r600_texture_create_object (memset) To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/mesa/+bug/1179539/+subscriptions ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 532047] Re: Plymouth text-mode splash causes X to crash on first run due to shared tty7
@Niccolo Welcome. I don't think this old bug report is a way to get this problem solved as it is already closed. Since you have already looked for a current bug report and can't find one I'd suggest you file a new one yourself. Please don't be shy. I'd suggest you use the approach at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/X/Reporting since `ubuntu-bug xorg` will collect a lot of pertinent information automatically. That page has lots of useful advice. WRT your question about viewing your xorg log files yourself, I would would suggest starting gedit and navigate to /var/log/ and the files you want to examine. askubuntu.com is great for getting answers to this kind of question, by the way. Here on Launchpad is the best place to get bugs worked on. @Jorge The message about the quit signal is just like the ones that occurred with this sort of bug. It might be good to see if there is an error in the still older xorg log. @Both I think closed bugs don't appear on developers' lists so a new bug report is much better, as Steve Langasek suggested to someone above. In addition gdm was involved in this old bug but now lightdm is used for the sign on screen so this really is a brand new bug even though there are probably events in common and the symptoms are the same. If you are both having the same problem on Precise perhaps one of you can file the bug and the other can mark it as affecting him as well . You both should attach the logs produced by `ubuntu-bug xorg` to help move the bug toward triaging. Thanks. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xorg-server in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/532047 Title: Plymouth text-mode splash causes X to crash on first run due to shared tty7 To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/xorg-server/+bug/532047/+subscriptions ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1179583] [NEW] Xorg freeze
Public bug reported: The system freezes under a specific but not consistent circumstance. System freeze means: complete lock-up except for mouse movement (only, no response to mouse-button); windows cannot be opened or closed, console cannot be changed (via ctrl-alt-fN), etc. The specific circumstance (but not consistent, meaning that it doesn't always happen but only happens during) is linking a URL from Thunderbird 12.0 to Firefox 20.0. The link is accessed (via mouse-button click), no tab opens in Firefox, with the system freezing immediately. In other words, the response of the system to linking the URL is the freeze. Thank you. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1179656] [NEW] Elantech Touchpad, AreaBottomEdge = parameter not work completly
Public bug reported: I have a laptop Asus S65CM with a large Elantech Touchpad. Please google it and see the touchpad. First problem: the touchpad is not automatically configured in a correct way. So I wrote a script to correct the parameters of synclient as enclosed. In this way, it work quite well but still a little but annoying bug. The parameter AreaBottomEdge = 1800 is used to reducting the Area of sensibility of the Touchpad. This is true about the movements but it is not true about the fingers counting. For example, if I let one my finger in the area of the left button, which is suppose to be a death-area, outside AreaBottom, it suppose to not be considered. But actually if I put also a finger to move the curson in central zone the touchpad recognize it as TwoFingers, so is blocking the cursor. If think internally is a problem of button counting which is performed before than the AreaBottom constrain. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1083032] Re: Video driver not working for Savage chipset
Maarten, by the way, I do intend to package a snapshot for Debian soon, so you can just sync it to Saucy later (I don't think the single Ubuntu patch for PCI instead of AGP is needed any longer). Here some additional information 1. Bios Versions: Running this on the current (old, without BIOS updates) system gives: sudo dmidecode -s bios-version sudo dmidecode -s bios-release-date 8,10 09/25/12 2. Information with ARandR Installing ARandR shows the system automatic configuration: Output: DisplayPort-1 Resolution: 1920x1080 It seems that by lowering the resolution to e.g. 1680 x 1050 xorg takes much longer to freeze 3. Attempt with fglrx-amdcccle Installing fglrx-amdcccle leads the system to chose another automatic configuration Output: DFP1 Resolution: 1920x1080 In the lower right side of the windows appears a message with AMD unsupported hardware. xorg freezes quite quickly. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xorg in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1178846 Title: 1002:6779 xorg hangs randomly with Radeon HD 7450A To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xorg/+bug/1178846/+subscriptions ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

I found : http://askubuntu.com/questions/79983/screen-brightness-resets-to-minimum-after-every-reboot The file /etc/rc.local add before line *exit 0*: *echo 5 /sys/class/backlight/acpi_video0/brightness exit 0 * Where *5* is the brightness level from 0 to 10 In fact, you have to set your brightness as you want. Then you open the file : */sys/class/backlight/acpi_video0/*actual_brightness And you replace the 5 with the number you will find in actual_brightness You must open rc.local as root : so : you open a term : CTRL+ALT+T Then you type : sudo nautilus you will find the file rc.local in subdirectory etc It was fine for me. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1168188] Re: black screen on lenovo g580 and ubuntu 13.04
FYI, I noticed that if I use the Fn+F4 key on my laptop (which is the 'lower screen brightness' function key) and drop it to 0% (as reported by a screen brightness overlay in KDE, if I'm logged in), my backlight goes completely off, to the point that I cannot see anything on the screen (similar to the problem I have when I boot up without an external monitor plugged in). Pressing Fn+F5 ('raise screen brightness'), it comes back on, of course. So the echo ### /sys/class/backlight/acpi_video0/brightness-in-/etc/rc.local trick sounds like it will work. I'll test it later today, and report back. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xserver-xorg-video-intel in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1168188 Title: black screen on lenovo g580 and ubuntu 13.04 To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xserver-xorg-video-intel/+bug/1168188/+subscriptions ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

However, X11 can't (MICMUTE is out of range), we have to remap it to something that X11 can use. We've used F21-23 before, so I assumed that was the best place to put it. I'm open to suggestions. Currently symbols/inet(evdev) is used for all keyboards, so all of them would use F20 for micmute. I am not very happy about that... What keyboards have F20? We're already using F21-23 for the touchpad on/off/toggle buttons, so there is a precedent for this. Those were only found on the old Sun 4 and older systems, not any UltraSPARC, x86 or AMD64 systems. I think other Unix workstations from the era had similarly large amounts of F keys for the CAD/CAM applications of the time, but those fell out of use over the years.
