[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1241409] [NEW] Shows corrupt screen - Freezed Latop
Public bug reported: I have a Lenovo B590 laptop that crashed occationally with a scrambled screen on 13.04 but since I upgraded to 13.10 it crashes a couple of times a day and needs to be hard reset or left for a while to reboot on its own. This error occurs periodically in various application and until now I could not see a pattern, but I recently started using teamspeak3 and with that application I get at least 3 crashes per hour, a lot of times a lot more. (As far as I can see the bios is up to date, I downloaded the latest bios update from the lenovo website and when I run it it actually warns me that it would downlevel the bios if I run the update program so I assume that means the version on the laptop is newer.) The only proprietry driver used on the laptop is the Broadcom Wireless driver. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1241595] [NEW] System freezes when using nouveau driver with Nvidia NVS 4200M
Public bug reported: I enabled the Nouveau driver in my Ubuntu 13.10 and started using my laptop. After I used it for few minutes (3-4 minutes) the system froze. Only the mouse was working. After about 1 minute the mouse cursor stopped responding as well, leaving me with a 100% frozen laptop. I couldn't even switch to a console (Alt + F1) and reboot gracefully. I had to do an hard reboot. The problem arises every time I start my pc, I can only use it for few minutes. The mouse cursor is always the last to freeze. The only way to use my laptop is to enable the Nvidia proprietary drivers. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1241610] [NEW] black screen after updating
Public bug reported: Sorry if slightly odd, this is the first time I report a bug... After updating the following packages: Start-Date: 2013-10-18 12:14:26 Commandline: aptdaemon role='role-commit-packages' sender=':1.74' Upgrade: procps:amd64 (3.2.8-11ubuntu6.1, 3.2.8-11ubuntu6.2), libdrm-nouveau2:amd64 (2.4.43-0ubuntu0.0.2, 2.4.43-0ubuntu0.0.3), libdrm-nouveau2:i386 (2.4.43-0ubuntu0.0.2, 2.4.43-0ubuntu0.0.3), libglib2.0-data:amd64 (2.32.3-0ubuntu1, 2.32.4-0ubuntu1), xserver-common-lts-quantal:amd64 (1.13.0-0ubuntu6.1~precise3, 1.13.0-0ubuntu6.1~precise4), libgnome-control-center1:amd64 (3.4.2-0ubuntu0.12, 3.4.2-0ubuntu0.13), libdrm-radeon1:amd64 (2.4.43-0ubuntu0.0.2, 2.4.43-0ubuntu0.0.3), libdrm-radeon1:i386 (2.4.43-0ubuntu0.0.2, 2.4.43-0ubuntu0.0.3), xserver-common:amd64 (1.11.4-0ubuntu10.13, 1.11.4-0ubuntu10.14), gnome-control-center-data:amd64 (3.4.2-0ubuntu0.12, 3.4.2-0ubuntu0.13), libglib2.0-0:amd64 (2.32.3-0ubuntu1, 2.32.4-0ubuntu1), libglib2.0-0:i386 (2.32.3-0ubuntu1, 2.32.4-0ubuntu1), libdrm2:amd64 (2.4.43-0ubuntu0.0.2, 2.4.43-0ubuntu0.0.3), libdrm2:i386 (2.4.43-0ubuntu0.0.2, 2.4.43-0ubuntu0.0.3), libdrm-nouveau1a:amd64 (2.4.43-0ubuntu0.0.2, 2.4.43-0ubuntu0.0.3), libglib2.0-bin:amd64 (2.32.3 -0ubuntu1, 2.32.4-0ubuntu1), libdrm-intel1:amd64 (2.4.43-0ubuntu0.0.2, 2.4.43-0ubuntu0.0.3), libdrm-intel1:i386 (2.4.43-0ubuntu0.0.2, 2.4.43-0ubuntu0.0.3), yad:amd64 (0.23.0-1~webupd8~precise, 0.23.1-1~webupd8~precise), gnome-control-center:amd64 (3.4.2-0ubuntu0.12, 3.4.2-0ubuntu0.13), xserver-xorg-core-lts-quantal:amd64 (1.13.0-0ubuntu6.1~precise3, 1.13.0-0ubuntu6.1~precise4) End-Date: 2013-10-18 12:15:25 According to the suggestions here: https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Bugs/FindRightPackage#Graphical_Environment I assume that the problem comes from the libdrm packages. I reboot my system and end up with black screens after the boot display. Restarting in recovery mode and choosing boot in safe graphic mode did not work. I had to restart the system and boot in recovery mode, remove all AMD drivers, reinstall the default basic display driver and reboot. The system then boot and gave me back access to the login page. I then reinstall the last version of the the AMD drivers (that were installed and running fine before). [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1172094] Re: xorg synaptic driver crashes
I should add, that I didn't suspend or resume the computer. It happens frequently when I compile and package a Linux Distribution, e.g. with Yocto/OpenEmbedded (using two parallel instances of make -j4 on a dual core machine with hyperthreading enabled). This does not only cause high CPU load, but also high disk load. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xserver-xorg-input-synaptics in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1172094 Title: xorg synaptic driver crashes To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/xserver-xorg-input-synaptics/+bug/1172094/+subscriptions ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1241745] [NEW] Changing the screen brightness does not work anymore in 13.10
Public bug reported: Changing the screen brightness always used to work on my HP Elitebook 8560w -- both with the function keys and in the dialog Brightness Lock in the system settings. The environment light sensor also used to work IIRC. Since the update to 13.10, this stopped working. Methods I have tried for adapting the brightness are: * Adding GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX=acpi_backlight=vendor to /etc/default/grub * Adding GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX=”acpi_osi=!Windows 2012 to /etc/default/grub None of them worked. Currently I am changing the brightness manually using xrandr --output LVDS-0 --brightness 0.9. However, AFAIK this does not really change the brightness, but only changes the contrast. Workarounds would be much appreciated. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1241768] [NEW] Applications on the 2nd monitor cannot be accessed
Public bug reported: This seems to be a regression, as I haven't had that issue before. When dragging an application window to the 2nd monitor, that application window can no longer be accessed using the mouse. Clicking on it doesn't do anything. Trying to drag it by clicking and holding the mouse on the titlebar, doesn't do anything either. Only workaround I found - unplug the 2nd monitor so the application is moved to the primary screen for it to be accessible again. This is new to me, and hasn't occured until I got a new laptop with a Thunderbolt port from which I drive the 2nd monitor. Before, I used a VGA cable to drive the other screen, and everything was fine.
