[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1242304] Re: Nouveau driver on MBPret 15

2013-10-22 Thread Christopher M. Penalver
Wolf Rogner, this report will focus only on wakeup from suspend. You are
welcome to file any further bugs in a seperate report, one per report.

Despite this, could you please test the latest upstream kernel available
following https://wiki.ubuntu.com/KernelMainlineBuilds ? It will allow
additional upstream developers to examine the issue. Please do not test the
daily kernel folder, but the one all the way at the bottom. Once you've tested
the upstream kernel, please comment on which kernel version specifically you
tested. If this bug is fixed in the mainline kernel, please add the following
tags:
kernel-fixed-upstream
kernel-fixed-upstream-VERSION-NUMBER

where VERSION-NUMBER is the version number of the kernel you tested. For
example:
kernel-fixed-upstream-v3.12-rc6

This can be done by clicking on the yellow circle with a black pencil icon next
to the word Tags located at the bottom of the bug description. As well, please
remove the tag:
needs-upstream-testing

If the mainline kernel does not fix this bug, please add the following tags:
kernel-bug-exists-upstream
kernel-bug-exists-upstream-VERSION-NUMBER

As well, please remove the tag:
needs-upstream-testing

Once testing of the upstream kernel is complete, please mark this bug's
Status as Confirmed. Please let us know your results. Thank you for your
understanding.

** Description changed:

- Using the nouveau drivers
-
- - Menu items restart and shutdown don't work
- - No wakeup from suspend to RAM (nothing new)
-
- slugish performance
+ Using the nouveau drivers no wakeup from suspend to RAM.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 740785] Re: Caught signal 11 (Segmentation fault). Server aborting

2013-10-22 Thread Esteban
Updating from 13.04 to 13.10 I get a segfault when executing Xephyr as
following :

Xephyr :3 -screen 1440x900x16
DISPLAY=:3 metacity

The segfault message :

(EE)
(EE) Backtrace:

The cause seems comes from the 16 color parameter but if I set 24
instead of 16 it works fine.

Running the Linux version of the game FTL causes the Xserver to

No errors appear in the dmesg output - this appears to be a userspace

Turns out the real problem is that FTL bundles a version of libstdc++

It looks like the net result is that *no* DRI drivers (not even swrast)
can be loaded, and the Xserver dies when trying to invoke the first GLX
call.

Here's the output of the program with LIBGL_DEBUG=verbose :

If I remove the bundled libstdc++.so use the system one then everything works
as expected.

Obviously this is still an Xorg crash bug though: the server ought not
to crash if a userspace program fails to load a glx driver!

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1180646]

2013-10-22 Thread Rrodriguez1975
I have the same problem as posted here in previous version to 3.3.1.
Using opengl the icon in the bar do no appear until mouse is over.

After updating to version 3.3.1 when I launch cairo-dock from terminal,
advanced configure settings are shown. Then if i want to switch to basic
mode, it keeps in advanced mode, no way to switch to basic mode. Even
the second time I try to switch to basic mode, it exits. Also, cairo-
dock bar is not shown. Even worse than versions previous to 3.3.1.

I have kernel 3.11.5-1-ARCH x86_64. I have an intel HD4000 lvy-bridge
and below intel driver installed:

extra/xf86-video-intel 2.21.15-1 (xorg-drivers xorg)

Please, fix it as soon as possible.

The bugg with i7 processor is false.
Turbostat shows correct turbo boost.
After cleaning the system with bleachbit and not running indicator-cpufreq
flickering is not that proeminent.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1242259] Re: Thinkpad x1 Volume up down and mute keys stopped working after upgrade to Ubuntu 13.10

2013-10-22 Thread Michael Braehler
I also have a rather recent Lenovo X1 (Touch) Type 3448-1Q6, and just
upgraded from 13.04 to 13.10. For me the three buttons (mute, Volume up
and Volume down) are working fine after the upgrade.

So it may be a problem related only to a certain type of X1 HW.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1243261] [NEW] apparent GPU hang on haswell laptop when playing movie on libreoffice

2013-10-22 Thread Koichi Takahashi
Public bug reported:

How to reproduce:
1. open libreoffice - file - new - presentation
2. paste any movie; insert - movie
this bug is quite reproducible and this movie file can be anything that
libreoffice/gstreamer can play.
3. verify you correctly pasted the movie by selecting the movie in the slide
and clicking the play botton bottom left.
check if the movie *plays* ok.
4. then start slideshow from the slideshow menu or F5.

Symptom:
* a screen hang. this continues at least ten seconds or more. after that you
can somehow quit the slideshow mode.
* ESC and other keys do not stop the slideshow, except ctrl+alt+F1
* switching to VT and getting back to X helps sometimes.

Configuration:
* Thinkpad-X240s
* tried both Saucy's default kernel and 3.11.6-031106 (ppa)

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1243261] Re: apparent GPU hang on haswell laptop when playing movie on libreoffice

2013-10-22 Thread Koichi Takahashi
I do not think this is a bug of libreoffice. it is probably a bug in the
kernel or driver
because
1. i do not see this problem on other machines I own including newer
sandybridge and
   ivy-bridge desktops/laptops.
2. i tried other version of libreoffice including that from raring and that
downloaded
fresh from libreoffice.org, and i always see the same problem only on my
X240 with intel haswell graphics.

thanks.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1243311] [NEW] GPU lockup when using 2 video cards

2013-10-22 Thread HyperHacker
Public bug reported:

My system has a Radeon HD 7750 and Radeon HD 6450, together driving 4 displays:
Left: VGA on 7750 via DisplayPort adaptor, 1280x1024
Middle: DVI on 7750, 1920x1080
Right: HDMI on 7750, 1680x1050
Top (above Middle): VGA on 6450, 1280x1024

With only Left, Middle and Right enabled, everything works fine. When I try to
enable the top display by running:
$ xrandr --output VGA-1-0 --above DVI-0 --mode 1280x1024
then the top screen only displays noise, and the entire system will lock up for
about 10 seconds at a time, then run again for 10 seconds (and the top screen
goes blank), then lock up again, repeating until the top screen is disabled
again. syslog and kern.log report one of the GPUs is locking up.

With the proprietary driver fglrx, I can run all 4 displays, but it
requires the use of Xinerama, so I have no RandR or compositing, which
stinks. With the open source driver RandR and compositing work fine.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1184451] Re: Ubuntu 13.10 random screen freeze while Normal OS activites

2013-10-22 Thread Christopher Nelson
I can also confirm this problem. It happens to me in Unity on a
repeatable basis: whenever I click the mouse on the desktop to draw a
selection, everything freezes momentarily. It doesn't happen when
resizing or moving windows, just when I click on the desktop. However,
it does happen if I try to maximize a window in Unity

This happens in Gnome3 in other situations, especially in Eclipse.

I am using the nvidia-319 driver in the Ubuntu repo.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1163981] Re: Xorg crashes when maximizing/resizing windows in openbox

2013-10-22 Thread Ari
Janis, any chance you have been able to find a workaround/fix in the
meantime? The crashes have gotten more frequent for me and it's now at a
point where I am considering dropping Synapse for good (which I would
hate to do).

I tried uploading my stack traces to launchpad but unfortunately apport
didn't give me the option to add them to an existing bug report so I had
to open a new one:

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1242259] Re: Thinkpad x1 Volume up down and mute keys stopped working after upgrade to Ubuntu 13.10

2013-10-22 Thread Henning
I'm not sure if this is realated, but I think it might be.

I'm having the same symptoms on my Lenovo x230 after installing 13.10:
the volume and mute buttons stopped working completely and the
brightness control buttons do still change brightness but there's no on-
screen indicator anymore.

I didn't upgrade using the update manager but did a clean install
keeping only my /home partition.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1163981] Re: Xorg crashes when maximizing/resizing windows in openbox

2013-10-22 Thread Ari
On a second thought, this bug is likely unrelated to the one I am
experiencing. I don't have any crashes with applications other than
Synapse and your problem seems to be identical to the one described in
the following bug reports:

https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/openbox/+bug/997212
https://bugzilla.icculus.org/show_bug.cgi?id=5460

Please note that the bug has been fixed in the latest openbox releases.

I hope this helps.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1207487] Re: Brightness Controls work but brightness doesnt change

2013-10-22 Thread blaamann
I am affected by this too after upgrading to 13.10. It worked fine in
12.10 and 13.04.

Using function keys I get an OSD showing brightness level
increasing/decreasing, but screen brightness does not change.

This is on an Lenovo laptop running upgradet 13.10 with Intel Graphics
using i915.

Setting brightness with 'echo 350
/sys/class/backlight/intel_backlight/brightness' does work for me.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1243415] [NEW] Narrow blurred horizontal stripe is flickering in the middle of a video with quick moving objects

2013-10-22 Thread eayin
Public bug reported:

A narrow blurred horizontal stripe is flickering about the mean height of a
video in scenes with quick moving objects. The stripe is from the left to the
right edge of the video. The stripe is sometimes located a little above or
below the mean height of a video.
My graphic card is the Sapphire ATI HD 7750. I tried xvid or x264 encoded
videos with kaffeine/vlc/mplayer/smplayer and in all cases the stripes occure.

dmesg output from boot to attempted resume

On a Dell Latitude E6400 with nVidia G98M and 3.10 kernel I find that
the machine will reproducibly resume from suspend with a non-responsive
X session. Given attempts I can eventually get to a somewhat functional
VT. dmesg output attached.

From discussions with xexaxo in #nouveau, it seems that this might be a
similar regression to what happened in 3.8 (described in bug #59057). My
plan is as follows,

 1) Verify that 3.8.11 works
1.1) If not, verify that 3.8.1 works and bisect to find the broken release
1.2) If so, check whether 3.9 works
 2) Bisect backwards from the first broken release to 3.8.11 (or whichever
release was tested to work)

to say the bug is still present.

Tested with LibreOffice version 4.1.2.3

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1243500] [NEW] Poor LibreOffice performance if open upon resuming from suspend (with nvidia graphics driver)

2013-10-22 Thread David
Public bug reported:

Same as bug #185600 or duplicates Bug #397880 Bug #438080 or Bug
#606558, except this bug report was produced using terminal.

System:
Ubuntu 13.10
LibreOffice 4.1.2.3
Nvidia-graphics-drivers-304 (nvidia-current as per 2013-10-23)

How to reproduce:
Open a document in LibreOffice (ideally several pages).
Suspend, then resume.
Scroll mouse down in LibreOffice (or try page up/down).
Bug: sluggish behavior, high CPU usage, takes half a second to a second on a
good machine to execute command (vs. almost immediately normally).

The problem is resolved if libreoffice is completely closed and re-
opened after the resume.

Is anybody backporting (or at least THINKING about backporting) all
these wonderful changes for us plebs on 12.04 LTS using the OFFICIAL
linux-generic-lts-raring series, or do we no longer count as real users,
despite LTS promises from Ubuntu?

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1186786] Re: nvidia-173 kernel module fails to build on kernels = 3.10.x [error: implicit declaration of function ‘create_proc_entry’]

2013-10-22 Thread Daniel Letzeisen
@Dan Muresan: this bug pertains to kernels = 3.10 and linux-generic-
lts-raring is a 3.8 kernel, so I have a feeling you're not talking about
this bug when you say all these wonderful changes.

Anyway, this wonderful change is already available for precise
(currently in proposed repo):

nvidia-graphics-drivers-173-updates (173.14.37-0ubuntu0.0.1) precise-proposed;
urgency=low

  * New upstream release:
- Added support for xserver ABI 14 (xorg-server 1.14).
  * debian/control.in:
- Remove the dependency on the linux headers as with other
  drivers.
- Recommend nvidia-settings-304-updates.
- Add ${misc:Depends}.
  * debian/substvars:
- Add an alternative dependency on xserver-xorg-core-lts-raring.
  (LP: #1198942).
  * Add support for Linux 3.10.
