[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1267742] Re: Screen artifacts appear after restart and cold boot

2014-01-15 Thread Elfy
Updated and upgraded.

Restarting - not seeing fragments of the previous session.

Cold boot - still see corruption for a short while between logging in
and the desktop loading.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1267742] Re: Screen artifacts appear after restart and cold boot

2014-01-15 Thread Simon Steinbeiß
The fragments you can see after the greeter exits and the session starts is the
root-pixmap, which is shown so that there's no flickering until (in Xubuntu's
case) xfdesktop/xfwm4 starts.
However, in the case of nouveau, it doesn't seem to make matters any better.

The greeter bug is fixed then, thanks for confirming/testing!

2014-01-15 Thread Christopher M. Penalver
Zwylicht , thank you for performing the requested test. Could you please
test for this with the latest development release of Ubuntu so the
latest X.Org stack with nouveau and kernel may be tested? ISO images are
available from http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/daily-live/current/ .

If it remains an issue, could you please run the following command in
the development release from a Terminal
(Applications-Accessories-Terminal), as it will automatically gather
and attach updated debug information to this report:

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1193686] Re: Sticky keys doesn't react to mouse buttons

2014-01-15 Thread Christopher M. Penalver
Thomas Hansen, as per your
https://launchpadlibrarian.net/162573896/BootDmesg.txt :
[0.136782] [Firmware Bug]: ACPI: BIOS _OSI(Linux) query ignored

As well, as per
http://www.dell.com/support/drivers/us/en/19/Product/xps-13-l321x-mlk, an
update to your BIOS is available (A10). If you update to this, does it change
anything? If it doesn't, could you please both specify what happened, and
provide the output of the following terminal command:
sudo dmidecode -s bios-version sudo dmidecode -s bios-release-date

For more on BIOS updates and linux, please see
https://help.ubuntu.com/community/ReportingBugs#Bug_reporting_etiquette
.

Thank you for your understanding.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1237379] Re: 10de:1245 [Asus M5A99X EVO] standby doesn't work with nouveau

2014-01-15 Thread Zwylicht
Well, I debootstrapped the installation and it is up-to-date in a few
minutes - I guess that is equal to the daily image?

No LSB modules are available.
Distributor ID: Ubuntu
Description:Ubuntu Trusty Tahr (development branch)
Release:14.04
Codename: trusty

I will perform the test after a reset and reckon will run the command
demanded.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1229591] [NEW] 8086:0116 [Dell Inspiron 14z (N411z)] Display brightness keys don't generate evdev events after saucy upgrade

2014-01-15 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
You have been subscribed to a public bug:

On raring (and precise) the display brightness keys (fn+f4 and fn+f5) on
my Dell Inspiron 14z turned the brightness up and down. After a saucy
upgrade this no longer happens (I don't see the popup brightness bubble
either). The other, similar keys (volume adjustment, etc) still work
fine.

Changing the values in /sys/class/backlight/intel_backlight/brightness
works (temporarily - it gets reset after the screen lock kicks in)

I tried following the instructions in
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Hotkeys/Troubleshooting but this appears to be
out of date (it references /usr/share/doc/udev/README.keymap.txt which
does not exist)

Ubuntu kernel version bisect revealed:
First bad Ubuntu kernel: 3.11.0-0.2
last good Ubuntu kernel: 3.10.0-6.17

The results of a commit bisect are pending.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1269600] [NEW] [Macmini5, 1] Kernel Panic when using Magic Touchpad

2014-01-15 Thread Gerrit Addiks
Public bug reported:

Using an Apple Magic Touchpad from 13.04 upward is not possible because
of a kernel panic. The Touchpad also works in 12.10, but i prefer LTS.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1269600] Re: Kernel Panic when using Magic Touchpad

2014-01-15 Thread Christopher M. Penalver
Gerrit Addiks, thank you for reporting this bug and helping make Ubuntu better.
Could you please test the latest upstream kernel available (not the daily
folder) following https://wiki.ubuntu.com/KernelMainlineBuilds ? It will allow
additional upstream developers to examine the issue. Once you've tested the
upstream kernel, please comment on which kernel version specifically you
tested. If this bug is fixed in the mainline kernel, please add the following
tags:
kernel-fixed-upstream
kernel-fixed-upstream-VERSION-NUMBER

where VERSION-NUMBER is the version number of the kernel you tested. For
example:
kernel-fixed-upstream-v3.13-rc8

This can be done by clicking on the yellow circle with a black pencil icon next
to the word Tags located at the bottom of the bug description. As well, please
remove the tag:
needs-upstream-testing

If the mainline kernel does not fix this bug, please add the following tags:
kernel-bug-exists-upstream
kernel-bug-exists-upstream-VERSION-NUMBER

As well, please remove the tag:
needs-upstream-testing

Once testing of the upstream kernel is complete, please mark this bug's
Status as Confirmed. Please let us know your results. Thank you for your
understanding.

** Description changed:

- I am (normally) using an Apple Magic Touchpad instad of a mouse. From
- 13.04 upward that not possible anymore, because it will take down the
- System. Because of that, i am still on 12.04 and will not upgrade until
- this is fixed. The Touchpad also works in 12.10, but i prefer LTS. The
- actual behaviour of this error is different on 13.04 than it is on
- 14.04, but both render the system unusable. I have not tried 13.10 yet.
- I am not sure if it is actually the same error, so i have created a new
- report for this.
-
+ Using an Apple Magic Touchpad from 13.04 upward is not possible because
+ of a kernel panic. The Touchpad also works in 12.10, but i prefer LTS.
In 13.04 the error is triggered randomly but quickly by dragging on the
- touchpad with two fingers (or using two fingers in general). At that
- time i have tried to solve it and created a report here:
- synaptics/+bug/1184334 (also maybe related:
- synaptics/+bug/1092615). A Backtrace can be found there.
-
- In 14.04 this is quite more serious. Whenever using the Touchpad with
- two fingers as above, it will cause a Kernel-Panic and simply die. The
- only way to recover is a cold reset. I have created photos of the
- kernel-panic and attached them here. I dont know if it is possible to
- get any other debug information that that in the case of a kernel-panic.
- I also doubt that the Apple Magic Touchpad will be the only Touchpad
- that can cause this.
-
- I should also note that this occoured on a Mac Mini mid-2011. Please
- tell me if i can do anything else to provide information. I have
- installed 14.04-dev-daily as a third OS (only for testing) on this
- system besides 12.04 and OS-X.
-

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1268298] Re: Xubuntu 13.10 can not start X with Rage 128 graphic cards

2014-01-15 Thread Oleg Blashchuk
On the one hand initial problem is gone - X starts ok now.
On the other hand final picture is buggy - video-buffer seems to be corrupted
and system is not really usable. I attach two screenshots of fresh Xubuntu
13.10 i386 desktop - one on Radeon (good picture), other on Rage 128 (corrupted
one). I tested different video-cards (Rage 128 and Rage 128 Pro, 16 and 32 MB,
all AGP) and three different motherboards (AMD on VIA and nVidia chipset and P4
on Intel chipset) - the same issue with all configurations. Effects (desktop
composition) can be turned on or off - does not really matter. Even lightdm
screen have corruptions.

As for now I have plenty of such PCs working smoothly under Xubuntu
12.04 - have not tested 13.04 yet.

2014-01-15 Thread Barry Drake
Next time, try going into suspend if you can. This always works for me.
Failing that, try ctrl+alt+F2 to bring up a terminal. Log in (your
user name and password) and do 'sudo shutdown -h to shut down properly.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1269642] [NEW] X needs a restart after suspend to drive 1200x1080 over displayport

2014-01-15 Thread John Lenton
Public bug reported:

After suspend, my displayport-connected monitor will (most often) no
longer work at the native 1200x1080 resolution.

Restarting X fixes it.

This is not a new problem, but I always thought I had a wonky cable. I
only recently noticed the suspend issue, and only just now the restart
thing.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1269260] Re: 8086:0166 [Lenovo ThinkPad X230] x hangs after standby

2014-01-15 Thread oualeju4mhfn
The 14.04 live-CD didn't show the same behaviour during my only one day
of testing. Once it didn't wake up at all, so even switching to a
console screen wasn't possible anymore, but the other times the system
woke up normally.

It also tried to switch back to kernel version 3.2.0.58 which also
doesn't seem to be affected by this bug, though thi kernel shows
different problems.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 221112]

2014-01-15 Thread Samuel thibault
Hello,

Until a solution is to be found, could 518c769d be reverted for now?
Breaking the very standard behavior of right control in all applications
(e.g. xterminals!!) is really not acceptable, compared to the few issues
that the behavior has without it.

Breaking the very standard behavior of right control

It does not break the very standard behavior of right control any more
than altrgr breaks the very standard behavior of right alt

It's exactly the same mechanism as endorsed in other official French
layouts like the Canadian one

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1193686] Re: Sticky keys doesn't react to mouse buttons

2014-01-15 Thread Thomas Hansen
I cannot see how a BIOS update can be relevant.

I probably didn't make it absolutely clear, but I saw this issue regress
between 12.04 and 13.04 not only on this Dell XPS 13, but also on a
Lenovo X410s, two entirely different laptops. I got a new workstation at
the time, and decided on testing the new 13.04 on the old laptop before
attempting to upgrade the 12.04 that the XPS shipped with. I find it
highly unlikely that both should have the same bug in entirely different
BIOS'es.

Should I go back to 3.11 then?

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1265065] Re: Desktop freeze while drag-maximizing window

2014-01-15 Thread Per Vapp
I am afraid I cannot install testing version of Ubuntu to my main
system, since some other programs might not work with it and I should
use it intensively quite long (over a week). If you are sure the cause
of the problem is xorg and Ubuntu 14.04 will use Mir, probably it is not
wise to waste time to fixing such a rare bug on xorg.
