[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 952401] Re: Shutting the lid interrupts laptop suspend
Bryan Eastin, thank you for your comment. If you would prefer to test this out in a Kubuntu Trusty live environment that would be fine - http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/kubuntu/releases/trusty/alpha-1/ . Granted it was different hardware (SONY Vaio) and variant (Ubuntu not Kubuntu), but about a week ago I recently worked with someone to upgrade them from Oneiric to Precise following https://help.ubuntu.com/community/PreciseUpgrades . The one thing we did as a precaution based backing up the data, is we permanently governored the CPU to powersave as the laptop was overheating from time to time: sudo cpufreq-selector --cpu=0 --governor=powersave sudo cpufreq-selector --cpu=1 --governor=powersave -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xorg in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/952401 Title: Shutting the lid interrupts laptop suspend To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xorg/+bug/952401/+subscriptions ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 931240] Re: [HP Pavilion Notebook PC dv7-6100 Entertainment/CT] Triple head on Ubuntu 11.10 with AMD Radeon HD 6470M not working
Christopher, Thanks for your information. I've looked into the BIOS upgrade options, and the only viable means seems to be to install Windows on the machine via the recovery disk and then upgrade the BIOS using the utility provided by HP. I don't have a spare SATA drive for this immediately available, so am going to have to wait to do this until I get one. That may take as long as two or three months. I'll report back once I've done that. I don't want to break an otherwise perfectly running machine by overwriting my current Ubuntu installation. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xserver-xorg-video-ati in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/931240 Title: [HP Pavilion Notebook PC dv7-6100 Entertainment/CT] Triple head on Ubuntu 11.10 with AMD Radeon HD 6470M not working To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xserver-xorg-video-ati/+bug/931240/+subscriptions ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1271975] [NEW] Compiz related non-specific (Compiz application closed unexpectedly due to error)
Public bug reported: crash takes place immediately (within 1st 20 minutes of updating software after fresh install of Ubuntu 12.04.3 LTS). The crash occurs without any noticeable kernel/system incapacitation. There are no screen freezes or signs of operational degradation involving the display. Each time the indication of the Compiz crash occurs I have elected to leave the Compiz application closed pending further Xorg system diagnostics. Pleae advise re: resolve related to the Compiz program app (update) bug. I have applied the test packages as prescribed below as of 30 minutes prior to posting this brief report (although I am unsure if this resolve is specific to the bug exhibitted on my particular computer: obtained at Ubuntu URL: https://wiki.ubuntu.com/X/Troubleshooting/HighMemory -- Installing the test packages Please do the following to upgrade to the proposed X server with the fix: sudo add-apt-repository ppa:ubuntu-x-swat/x-updates sudo apt-get update sudo apt-get dist-upgrade After that, reboot and log in. --- Unable to determine relative possibility of security vulnerabilities related to the Compiz (compositing manager for Open GL - desktop appearance/settings/functionality inline with manipulating Intel graphics chip instructions). Installing the test packages Please do the following to upgrade to the proposed X server with the fix: sudo add-apt-repository ppa:ubuntu-x-swat/x-updates sudo apt-get update sudo apt-get dist-upgrade After that, reboot and log in. The error is not uncommon and have discussed with other end-users in Ubuntu freenode discussions. Hopefully, a resolve (other than the PPA debug session and debug for the update) can be compiled for this and future distributions of Ubuntu 12.04 LTS, c. I intend to re-install Ubuntu 12.04.3 LTS directly (as of this writing) and avoid updates to Compiz (or in the alternative uninstall the offending application = Compiz updates to Ubuntu 12.04.3 LTS). If I am in error in following this course in remedying the spontaneous crashing of the internal application - could you kindly advise as to alternative measures (if at all possible) for the benefit of all Ubuntu 12.04 LTS users, if you please. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1247624] Re: Laptop screen is turned off, needs shutdown to work again
Just tested and the problem still occurs. I ran the command you gave, but I don't know if files are uploaded. The python script showed errors in the terminal. Incidentally, I found steps which have reproduced the problem 10 out of 10 times: - open dash - search for 'term' - start the 'Terminal' - enter the following command: 'dmesg | less' - scroll the text using the cursor keys - within a few lines scrolled, the screen goes black Could it have something to do with the Terminal being partial transparent and there is a regression in that part of the driver. NB The live version I tested: Ubuntu 14.04 LTS Trusty Tahr - Alpha i386 (20140123) casper-uuid-generic: 48ace7dd-f966-41f6-95c0-f0ccca67ce91 -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xorg in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1247624 Title: Laptop screen is turned off, needs shutdown to work again To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xorg/+bug/1247624/+subscriptions ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

We were wondering if this is still an issue? If so, could you please test for this with the latest development release of Ubuntu? ISO images are available from http://cdimage.ubuntu.com /daily-live/current/ . If it remains an issue, could you please run the following command in the development release from a Terminal (Applications-Accessories-Terminal), as it will automatically gather and attach updated debug information to this report: apport-collect -p xserver-xorg-video-ati REPLACE-WITH-BUG-NUMBER Please note, given that the information from the prior release is already available, doing this on a release prior to the development one would not be helpful. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 984248] Re: Logging out of sessions results in a transitional black textual screen --12.10 upgrade
The screen on the model I reported has failed on me. I now use an external monitor hooked up via vga. I still get blanking but inquiries tell me that this is due to variability in card and monitor resolution tolarancy. So, I can't speak to this any longer. Now if Ubuntu recognized the monitor via DVI, I could futher provide feedback. I don't think it's a proprietary DVI as it fits a regular DVI cable (dual-link DVI is what wikipedia says). -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xorg-server in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/984248 Title: Logging out of sessions results in a transitional black textual screen --12.10 upgrade To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xorg-server/+bug/984248/+subscriptions ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 875375] Re: Resume fails after suspend post Oneiric upgrade

Both - the internal and external keyboards are locked out (no green light caps- - lock light indicator) and sysreq commands seem useless. + From the Unity desktop in the corner up right, select suspend, and it + seems to reach suspend state. Both the internal and external keyboards are locked out + (no green light caps-lock light indicator) and sysreq commands seem + useless. I have not tried unplugging the power adapter nor the ethernet cable. - Pressing the power button for 3 or 4 seconds does a hard reboot. - - Expected results - I expect a successful stateful return into my desktop, with both suspend and hibernate functions, if not timely --as prior to my upgrade from Natty. I expect this to be a kernel issue, as the problem seems to arise after suspend/hiberate mode has been reached. Launchpad seems to have added this bug as an ati video driver issue. Perhaps the video driver is not re-initiating. - - Both modes worked on Natty out of the box, and continued to work with - more or less the same apps. To clarify, I have not installed software - that might affect functionality (unless you consider audio software such - as Listen, Exaile, or Quod Libet potentially dangerous). - - The only change I have made to the power settings is (if I recall) is to - enable ¨suspend when inactive for 10 minutes on battery¨, which - shouldn´t matter since I never unplug the power adapter, anyway. - + This was working prior to my upgrade from Natty. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1236922] Re: Xorg crashes with SIGABRT in pixman_blt() after using Synapse for a while
While clearly a bug in the X server or the pixman library, I was able to get around it by changing my window manager. It seems that by using a different window manager it avoids the critical path. In any case, I had this bug consistently as you describe it. Sometimes when I press the down arrow to open the documents list, the X server would crash. Not at first, and not always, but usually after running some time. I could usually get lucky and not crash for the first little while. I was using the openbox window manager, but I also tried fluxbox and Gnome 2. They all had the same problem. I tried switching the video drivers, it did not help. Finally, I switched to the mint cinnamon window manager and it's been working for months for me now. Even though I would prefer not to use cinnamon, it's better than a crashing server. So my suggestion would be to try a new window manager, you might work around it until this is fixed and you can get back to your favorite WM.
