[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 666604] Re: [Fujitsu LifeBook T4410] Touchscreen unusual in multi-head system

2014-01-28 Thread vik
I have recently installed 'normal' ubuntu 13.10 on a Fujitsu T5010
tablet (which is almost identical to the T4410 I initially reported this
bug on). The touchscreen and stylus inputs work as they should even with
an external display connected. Which is good news for me. I might try
this on a T4410 soon. But from my perspective this bug has been fixed;
not certain if kubuntu uses a different driver or configuration?

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1247061] Re: ctrl+shift+alt+arrow can't move window up or down, only left and right

2014-01-28 Thread David White
Christopher,

In the end I found the keyboard shortcut options via the sytem settings
and found that the keyboard shortcuts for these actions had changed to
something else, which I can't remember now. I set them back to the
default.

If it would help I could run the CD image as a live USB stick on the
machine I had the problem on. Unfortunately I don't have a spare drive
to do an installation. Let me know if that would be helpful.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1272781] Re: Often system freezes

2014-01-28 Thread NLR
This issue seem to appear using fglrx (which is a proprietary driver, not under
xorg's responsibility) and after altering some backlight parameters (such as
closing lid).
You may try to update your BIOS to last revision (A10) and blacklist
dell_laptop module as I wrote in my previous post. I didn't noticed any freeze
since I've done that and I'm still using fglrx-update package as driver.

However, there is still plainty of boring issues under Linux distributions with
this laptop : fan always at high speed which is noisy and useless (can be fixed
using i8kutils), slow boot (~3 minutes) when using power-saving GPU (Intel
Chip) and fglrx(-update), backlight broken (can be fixed adding
acpi_backlight=vendor to boot options, and you've done that considering your
logs). USB3 behavior seem weird also.
Dell Inspiron 7520 is a special edition, and there must be too few users to
really interest devs. They have other priorities

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1026046] Re: Missing support for thumb resting on bottom of clickpad

2014-01-28 Thread delopez89
This issue has been kind of fixed upstream by a comment on a dependent
bug, see: https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=66532#c5

The patch makes it so that all touches within AreaBottomEdge are
ignored, which makes the touchpad usable. I don't know when/if this
patch will be merged but it is possible to apply the patch to the
synaptics 1.7.1 driver and compile it.

So it turns out that ld hanging on the backtrace is actually glibc bug

Setting the MALLOC_CHECK_ environment variable causes it not to hang, by
not trying to emit the back trace and deadlocking on reacquiring the
malloc lock:

jacob Hemstad, thank you for reporting this and helping make Ubuntu
better. Just to clarify, which version of Precise specifically did this
last work in (ex. 12.04.01, 12.04.02, 12.04.03)?

As well, did this problem not occur in either Quantal or Raring?

** Description changed:

- The touchpad on my new XPS 13 Developer edition is detected as
- DLL060A:00 06CB:2734 when I installed Ubuntu 13.10. The touchpad
- previously worked with the default the Ubuntu 12.04 install and further

-
- There is a similar bug report that was closed found here:

-
- The user said reinstalling 13.1 fixed his issues, however, I have made
- multiple attempts to clean reinstall 13.1 have failed to fix the

It worked in 12.04.3LTS. I am currently updating to 12.10 to check if it
continues to work.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1273832] [NEW] [i915] Lockscreen/lid-close xserver freeze if UXA accel used.

2014-01-28 Thread Lee H
Public bug reported:

On a Haswell system, if AccelMethod UXA selected in xorg.conf, xserver freezes
(moveable cursor, but frozen and unresponsive desktop) each time the screen is
locked (either via inactivity or lid close on laptop) .

This freeze does not occur if SNA AccelMethod is selected.
This freeze can also be avoided if vblank_mode=0 is used, even
if UXA acceleration selected.

1) Ubuntu release: 13.10, but I also tested this on
12.04 LTS, in which case I got exactly the same bug, only
the frozen screen was blank rather than frozen desktop image.

2) Expected result:

No freeze when locking screen/closing lid. Just
the login screen greeter.

3) How to reproduce:

On Haswell system, in xorg.conf:

Section Device
Identifier Intel Graphics
Driver intel
Option AccelMethod UXA #bug occurs
# Option AccelMethod SNA #(default) no bug!
EndSection

reboot. Try closing the lid or locking screen a number of times
(normally within a few attempts you will see the freeze).

4) Resolution:

Short term solution is to switch to a tty and back.

Alternatively, boot with the SNA acceleration method instead.

Another alternative: use a dri config file in home directory:
~/.drirc containing

device screen=0 driver=dri2
   application name=Default
   option name=vblank_mode value=0/
  /application
/device

to turn off vsync.

5) Importance for fglrx driver users with AMD cards:

fglrx and pxpress by default force the i915 driver to use UXA mode,
thus when selecting the iGPU users of fglrx will experience this freezing bug.

malloc_printerr() on error detection free(): invalid next size (fast)
ends up calling into:

backtrace.c:init()
dl-libc.c:do_dlopen()
malloc.c:calloc()
malloc.c:malloc_printerr()

The malloc error reporting should only report the first error, not
attempt to recusively report all error (we knew it was corrupted at the
outer most point, so any further work inside malloc is also likely to
find corruption).

Full stack trace to follow.

The main problem is the process does not abort() and die, it hangs around in:

pthread_once.S:pthread_one()
backtrace.c:__backtrace()

I think due to recursive lock, this lock should trylock() on the 2nd
time and abort() the process immediately. It does appear to deadlock
itself.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1273403] Re: [Dell XPS 13 9333] Touchpad not detected correctly

2014-01-28 Thread Christopher M. Penalver
Jacob Hemstad, 12.04.03 would be equivalent to testing Raring given it
shares the same kernel and xorg stack -
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Kernel/LTSEnablementStack . So, this would be a
regression going from Raring to Saucy.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1260827] Re: HD 5970 multi monitor radeon screen corruption

2014-01-28 Thread Jonathan Brier
The corruption persists even with 3.13.0-031300-generic kernel and xorg-

has been unreliable for system and display stability. The open source
drivers should be the focus of development especially due to the ability
debug more transparently.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1273403] Re: [Dell XPS 13 9333] Touchpad not detected correctly

2014-01-28 Thread Christopher M. Penalver
Jacob Hemstad, if you are saying the enablement stack doesn't work for
whatever reason, that would be a bug in the stack, which you are welcome
to report a bug against the stack package. The purpose of the enablement
stack is to provide support (including x64) for folks who want to retain
the 12.04 userspace, but benefit from device enablement from later
kernels+X.Org versions.

I'm not sure I understand how the Enablement Stack will help me.

The touchpad is detected and functioning correctly in Precise 12.04.

I would like to use Saucy 13.10, but the touchpad is not recognized
correctly in Saucy.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1260827] Re: HD 5970 multi monitor radeon screen corruption

2014-01-28 Thread Jonathan Brier
No if my memory serves me correctly, in the beginning of using 13.10
there was no corruption with the mesa drivers. It was not until updates
after its release did these corruptions begin to appear on this machine.

The issues with fglrx have been intermittent. I believe at the initial
launch of 13.10 fglrx did not function at all nor would it install or it
installed, but was unusable due to system/graphic crashes. In 13.04
fglrx was mostly working stable until things from 13.10 were being
included.

2014-01-28 Thread Joseph Wynn
Jacob, I reported in the other bug that this was fixed for me with a
clean install of 13.10. However, I've just realised that Dell replaced
my motherboard the day before I did the install.

The replacement motherboard is on the A01 BIOS, whereas the previous
board was on A02. Can you confirm which BIOS you're running?

Also, I'm not sure how related it is but is your touchscreen detected
correctly and working?

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1273403] Re: [Dell XPS 13 9333] Touchpad not detected correctly

2014-01-28 Thread Jacob Hemstad
Interesting. I am on BIOS Version A02.

I can get the touchscreen to work if I install the config-usb-hid-
synaptics-touchscreen_1_all.db from Dell's downloads:

http://www.dell.com/support/drivers/us/en/19/DriverDetails/Product/xps-13-9333?driverId=4NTWRosCode=1204AfileId=3334721637languageCode=ENcategoryId=CS

So it would seem that this is an issue with the A02 BIOS and Ubuntu
13.1. I don't believe there is anyway to revert to the previous version
of the BIOS either.

- see
http://lists.freedesktop.org/archives/xorg/2014-January/056338.html

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 848784] Re: [VX800] Xorg crash back to login screen

2014-01-28 Thread Alberto Jovito
This bug refers to video crash on X.Org server 1.10 is present in lucid.

Yes gang65 package https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xserver-xorg-
video-openchrome/1:0.2.904+svn920-1 fix this bug.

I have tested 12.04 and 12.10 and the bug is not present.

Why not add repository with backports packages or lts in ubuntu example
http://packages.ubuntu.com/precise/xserver-xorg-video-openchrome-lts-
quantal ??

Sorry for my bad english.
