Created attachment 96026 GTK+2 fonts corruption as per git, the commit is applied for the version 2.99.910. I have this version installed. But the problem is still there, see the screenshot. Interestingly, the fonts are heavily corrupted in GTK+2 apps. QT/efl apps are fine. There are a couple of significant changes in here: libevdev support: The evdev backend on Linux now uses libevdev. We recommend to use libevdev 1.1-rc1 or later as the synaptics driver is very likely to trigger SYN_DROPPED and we've fixed a bunch of issues in libevdev 1.1. Support for T440, T540, X240, Helix, Yoga: The bulk of the changes is to support this set of Lenovo touchpads. These touchpads don't have separate physical buttons for the trackstick and need to be emulated as software-button by the driver. TouchpadOff behaviour change: Synaptics has a property Synaptics Off to disable events. Previously, this disabled any event from the touchpad. Reportin first test with AMD drivers. With AMD GPU enabled, I have massive screen corruption if I enable both monitors. If I only enable one, corruption is no longer present, however spontaneous switching/mirroring occurs. We have a known issue in that we don't detect the swizzling correctly and so we may end up with corruption if objects are paged out from memory. I never heard of or used the level5 either, but to solve the issue could we maybe put it in another layout? For example something like oss- level5? I personally have to patch the file on every package update and even if I'm used to that and have the patch ready now, it gets annoying. The right [Ctrl] key actually is a right [Ctrl] key and no other modifier or whatever. 2/ There are quite a *lot* of common, daily used by professional IT staff, keyboard shortcuts or combinations such as [Ctrl]-[Arrows], [Ctrl]-[PageUp/Down], [Ctrl]-[Home], [Ctrl]-[End], plus all such combinations adding [Shift], then [Ctrl]-L, [Ctrl]-M... - All these day-long used combinations can be conveniently played with 2 (or 3) fingers when the right [Ctrl] key actually is a right [Ctrl] key, and changing this key breaks them all, needing people to start using both hands for typing what they have typed with 2 fingers for 30 YEARS ! And mistype. And mistype. And mistype. 3/ The issue with Rythmbox looks solved for long, and who wants to break professional use of a keyboard for a solved bug in a music player ? 4/ Nobody (normal user) I talked to has ever heard about a level 5 story, nor do people give a damn. 5/ Everybody wanting to type non-breakable space in word processors (LibreOffice...) do it with [Ctrl]-[Shift]-[Space] and don't need a specifically modified right Ctrl for that. 6/ Breaking right [Ctrl] breaks other apps that specifically request it NOT to be broke, such as [VirtualBox] - again professional stuff. The right [Ctrl] key actually is a right [Ctrl] key and no other modifier or whatever. 2/ There are quite a *lot* of common, daily used by professional IT staff, keyboard shortcuts or combinations such as [Ctrl]-[Arrows], [Ctrl]-[PageUp/Down], [Ctrl]-[Home], [Ctrl]-[End], plus all such combinations adding [Shift], then [Ctrl]-L, [Ctrl]-M... - All these day-long used combinations can be conveniently played with 2 (or 3) fingers when the right [Ctrl] key actually is a right [Ctrl] key, and changing this key breaks them all, needing people to start using both hands for typing what they have typed with 2 fingers for 30 YEARS ! And mistype. 3/ The issue with Rythmbox looks solved for long, and who wants to break professional use of a keyboard for a solved bug in a music player ? 4/ Nobody (normal user) I talked to has ever heard about a level 5 story, nor do people give a damn. 5/ Everybody wanting to type non-breakable space in word processors (LibreOffice...) do it with [Ctrl]-[Shift]-[Space] and don't need a specifically modified right Ctrl for that. 6/ Breaking right [Ctrl] breaks other apps that specifically request it NOT to be broke, such as [VirtualBox] - again professional stuff. I never heard of or used the level5 either, but to solve the issue could we maybe put it in another layout? For example something like oss- level5? I personally have to patch the file on every package update and even if I'm used to that and have the patch ready now, it gets annoying. Public bug reported: Been having boot hangs for a couple of months on 14.04. Appears to be a display problem (black screen or hang before logon). Removed quiet splash from linux boot command but still occurs. Added only nomodeset and the problem appears much less frequently. Noticed poor display response when the system does come up and that the lshw -c display command indicates the display UNCLAIMED. Have included the lshw output from both the 14.04 and 13.10 levels (13.10 does not have the boot problem, running with quiet splash only and display appears normal). The boot problem was occurring under 14.04 alpha1/2. Rebuilt the system under the beta1 build but problem continued. Will be rebuilding under the latest daily build when a get some time. Saw this notification when opening this bug. Your system is providing 3D via software rendering rather than hardware rendering. This is a compatibility mode which should display 3D graphics properly but the performance may be very poor. If the problem you're reporting is related to graphics performance, your real question may be why X didn't use hardware acceleration for your system. Even though I've been an IT professional for the past 3O years, I went to a large computer store in France over lunch time, to find out if such thing as a [CtrlGr] key could possibly exist on a french keyboard. Let me tell you : I couldn't find any. OTOH, I was surprised to notice that some tablets with removable keyboards, as well as some ultrabooks with space-saver keyboards, did not have a right [Ctrl] key at all ! All have a left [Ctrl], left [Alt] and right [AltGr]. The vast majority of times, they have a right [Ctrl] key which is similar to the left one. But sometimes there is no right [Ctrl] at all ! This single fact prohibits a standard keymap giving a different assignation to the right [Ctrl] key, because this key may well not even exist on a given keyboard ! Thus you cannot rely on it for any feature that could be positively necessary. update: after several hours of testing glxgears on Linux Mint 15 kernel 3.8.0 the system did not freeze until today, around 3 min of glxgears usage the system froze extacly like xubuntu. I will install an older distribution on the test partition to check for stability. It seems the problem is caused by the backing store function of xorg. It is disabled by default in 1.14.5 and enabled by default in 1.15.0.
