Really sorry, cant remember that. Generally Just do a apt-get update
apt-get upgrade and apt-get dist-upgrade followed by apt-get -f install.
I dont know how to get the upgrade log but
I can furnish the install log for 12- 14th March, if that helps:

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1098334]

2014-03-19 Thread Ildar
Created attachment 96026
GTK+2 fonts corruption

as per git, the commit is applied for the version 2.99.910. I have this version
installed.
But the problem is still there, see the screenshot. Interestingly, the fonts
are heavily corrupted in GTK+2 apps. QT/efl apps are fine. GTK+3 apps mainly
ok, but gedit have icons corrupted a bit, but not fonts.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1294515] [NEW] FFE: new upstream version to support touchpads on newer Lenovo models

2014-03-19 Thread Timo Aaltonen
Public bug reported:

Upstream has released -synaptics 1.7.99.1:

A snapshot of what will be synaptics 1.8. There are a couple of significant
changes in here:

libevdev support:
The evdev backend on Linux now uses libevdev. We recommend to use libevdev
1.1-rc1 or later as the synaptics driver is very likely to trigger
SYN_DROPPED and we've fixed a bunch of issues in libevdev 1.1.

Support for T440, T540, X240, Helix, Yoga:
The bulk of the changes is to support this set of Lenovo touchpads. These
touchpads don't have separate physical buttons for the trackstick and need
to be emulated as software-button by the driver.

TouchpadOff behaviour change:
Synaptics has a property Synaptics Off to disable events. Previously,
this disabled any event from the touchpad. Now, physical button clicks are
allowed even when the touchpad is disabled.

mtdev was dropped:
There are no touchpad drivers in the kernel tree that use protocol A, so
using mtdev is just a computationally expensiv and memory-wasting noop.

this needs a newer libevdev too.

** Affects: libevdev (Ubuntu)
 Importance: Undecided
 Status: New

** Affects: xserver-xorg-input-synaptics (Ubuntu)

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1287128] Re: [MIR] libevdev

2014-03-19 Thread Timo Aaltonen
we'd need 1.0.99.1 for new synaptics, see bug 1294515

** Description changed:

  Availability:
  - Available in universe for all supported archs.

  Rationale:
- - Used as a new build-dependency for xserver-xorg-input-synaptics. (Pending
the bug for updating to new version. Separate FFe bug #XX)
+ - Used as a new build-dependency for xserver-xorg-input-synaptics. (Pending
the bug for updating to new version. Separate FFe bug #1294515)
  Security:
  - No known security issues, small wrapper for evdev events.

  Quality assurance:
  - No configuration required. No outstanding bugs in launchpad.
  - I would prefer the newer 0.9 or 1.0 because of the soname bump, some
functions were dropped in 0.6, which meant increasing the soname number.
  - Library is meant for supporting the kernel devdev interface.
  - Testsuite compiles, but requires root and the uinput kernel module for
running the tests. So they are not run by default.

UI standards: (generally only for user-facing applications)
  - n/a

  Dependencies:
build-depends on check, debhelper, dh-autoreconf, doxygen, pkg-config and
python, all in main.

  Standards compliance:
  - Source packaging is lintian clean, debian/copyright exists, packaging uses
debhelper.

  Maintenance:
  - Low maintainance, can be taken on by the ubuntu-x-swat team.

  Background information:
  - This is a dependency of xserver-xorg-input-synaptics in the 1.8 branch.

Reportin first test with AMD drivers. With AMD GPU enabled, I have massive

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1013881]

2014-03-19 Thread Nicolas-mailhot-laposte
(In reply to comment #54)
So, finally, is everybody happy with me removing that line:

 include level5(rctrl_switch)

No, just didn't see the point of restating what has already been written
before

A level 5 map needs a level 5 switch, iso defined right ctrl as default
level 5 switch so there is no better option available, and users who do
not care about the fifth level can choose another spacebar variant since
they are configurable.

Ah, would you happen to have an uneven amount of memory installed?

Probably. Is this and unsupported configuration?

We have a known issue in that we don't detect the swizzling correctly
and so we may end up with corruption if objects are paged out from
memory. Typically you see the affects after running for some time (so
that memory pressure takes effect) or after resume. See bug 28813 bug

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1013881]

2014-03-19 Thread Aurélien Bompard
I never heard of or used the level5 either, but to solve the issue could
we maybe put it in another layout? For example something like oss-
level5?

I personally have to patch the file on every package update and even if
I'm used to that and have the patch ready now, it gets annoying. On my
laptop the right Ctrl key is adjascent to the arrows and it's way more
convenient to be able to move through words in a text using only the
right hand.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1013881]

2014-03-19 Thread Swâmi Petaramesh
Repeating :

1/ Standard French keyboard has NO [CtrlGr] key. It does have 2 normal
[Ctrl] keys bearing the exact same label. The right [Ctrl] key actually
is a right [Ctrl] key and no other modifier or whatever.

2/ There are quite a *lot* of common, daily used by professional IT
staff, keyboard shortcuts or combinations such as [Ctrl]-[Arrows],
[Ctrl]-[PageUp/Down], [Ctrl]-[Home], [Ctrl]-[End], plus all such
combinations adding [Shift], then [Ctrl]-L, [Ctrl]-M...

- All these day-long used combinations can be conveniently played with
2 (or 3) fingers when the right [Ctrl] key actually is a right [Ctrl]
key, and changing this key breaks them all, needing people to start
using both hands for typing what they have typed with 2 fingers for 30
YEARS ! And mistype. And mistype. And mistype.

3/ The issue with Rythmbox looks solved for long, and who wants to break
professional use of a keyboard for a solved bug in a music player ?

4/ Nobody (normal user) I talked to has ever heard about a level 5
story, nor do people give a damn.

5/ Everybody wanting to type non-breakable space in word processors
(LibreOffice...) do it with [Ctrl]-[Shift]-[Space] and don't need a
specifically modified right Ctrl for that.

6/ Breaking right [Ctrl] breaks other apps that specifically request it
NOT to be broke, such as [VirtualBox] - again professional stuff.

Breaking the right [Ctrl] keys on the french keyboard is plain stupid,
period.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 221112]

2014-03-19 Thread Aurélien Bompard
I never heard of or used the level5 either, but to solve the issue could
we maybe put it in another layout? For example something like oss-
level5?

I personally have to patch the file on every package update and even if
I'm used to that and have the patch ready now, it gets annoying. On my
laptop the right Ctrl key is adjascent to the arrows and it's way more
convenient to be able to move through words in a text using only the
right hand.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1294643] [NEW] Boot Hangs, lshw display indicates UNCLAIMED

2014-03-19 Thread Cliff Carson
Public bug reported:

Been having boot hangs for a couple of months on 14.04. Appears to be a
display problem (black screen or hang before logon). Removed quiet
splash from linux boot command but still occurs. Added only
nomodeset and the problem appears much less frequently. Noticed poor
display response when the system does come up and that the lshw -c
display command indicates the display UNCLAIMED. Have included the
lshw output from both the 14.04 and 13.10 levels (13.10 does not have
the boot problem, running with quiet splash only and display appears
normal).

The boot problem was occurring under 14.04 alpha1/2. Rebuilt the system
under the beta1 build but problem continued. Will be rebuilding under
the latest daily build when a get some time.

Saw this notification when opening this bug.

Your system is providing 3D via software rendering rather than hardware
rendering. This is a compatibility mode which should display 3D
graphics properly but the performance may be very poor. If the problem
you're reporting is related to graphics performance, your real question
may be why X didn't use hardware acceleration for your system.

Do not know what steps to take to cause the system to use hardware
acceleration.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1013881]

2014-03-19 Thread Swâmi Petaramesh
Even though I've been an IT professional for the past 3O years, I went
to a large computer store in France over lunch time, to find out if such
thing as a [CtrlGr] key could possibly exist on a french keyboard.

Let me tell you : I couldn't find any.

OTOH, I was surprised to notice that some tablets with removable
keyboards, as well as some ultrabooks with space-saver keyboards, did
not have a right [Ctrl] key at all !

All have a left [Ctrl], left [Alt] and right [AltGr].

The vast majority of times, they have a right [Ctrl] key which is
similar to the left one.

But sometimes there is no right [Ctrl] at all !

This single fact prohibits a standard keymap giving a different
assignation to the right [Ctrl] key, because this key may well not even
exist on a given keyboard ! Thus you cannot rely on it for any feature
that could be positively necessary.

That makes Yet Another Good Reason™ to keep the good 'ole behaviour of
having 2 similarily mapped [Ctrl] keys.

is.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1294107] Re: XU 13.10 causing frequent laptop (acer 5620) hard lockups.

2014-03-19 Thread Galen Thurber
update:
after several hours of testing glxgears on Linux Mint 15 kernel 3.8.0 the
system did not freeze until today,
around 3 min of glxgears usage the system froze extacly like xubuntu.
I will install an older distribution on the test partition to check for
stability.
Pity the day I have to only run Vista on this laptop, mercy

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1278012] Re: tearing with vsync enabled

2014-03-19 Thread David Gnedt
It seems the problem is caused by the backing store function of xorg. It
is disabled by default in 1.14.5 and enabled by default in 1.15.0. If I
disable it with -bs on xorg startup, I have no tearing with 1.15.0.

2014-03-19 Thread Alberto Jovito
@Thomas I tried the package is in your ppa, gives no image on the screen
as if the screen turn off. The only novelty is that if you can access
the TTY console.

Debian package not meet some dependencies need xorg-video-abi-15,
xserver-xorg-core (= 2:1.14.99.902).

[ 127.738]ABI class: X.Org Video Driver, version 15.0
[ 127.738] (EE) module ABI major version (15) doesn't match the server's
version (14)
[ 127.738] (II) UnloadModule: openchrome
[ 127.738] (II) Unloading openchrome
[ 127.738] (EE) Failed to load module openchrome (module requirement

** Attachment added: Xorg log openchrome 1:0.3.3-1+1 turn off screen, can
