[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1304912] Re: Ubuntu 14.04 laptop uses lot of power switchable graphics

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1209008] Re: [SRU] X doesn't work for video cards with non-KMS drivers on non-seat0 seats
It works for me, too. That said, I experience problems with coming back from machine's suspend: the screen at seat-1 in my setup (please see above) remains blank. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1402551] Re: High memory usage of Xorg and kwin after Xorg security updates [nvidia]
All that had their version bumped by the security fix. Have noticed something interesting. Increased Xorg memory usage here seems to be somewhat related to using Chrome/Chromium (or based upon) browser with hardware accelerations enabled in the advanced options. Each time I launch an instance it increases Xorg memory usage by ~ 30MB which is not released when the application is closed. Disabling hardware acceleration seems to eliminate that and I get very little or much slower degrading of Xorg memory usage. I would suggest this might be worth reporting to Nvidia? https://devtalk.nvidia.com/default/board/98/ as seems possible it is their drivers not liking the fixed Xorg as much as it could be a bug in any other part of the graphics stack. I likewise see no problem at present with intel hardware. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xorg-server in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1402551 Title: High memory usage of Xorg and kwin after Xorg security updates [nvidia] To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/nvidia-graphics-drivers-304-updates/+bug/1402551/+subscriptions ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1403228] [NEW] unable to connect external monitor
Public bug reported: When connecting a BenQ T905 through HDMI with a resolution of around 1280x1020, the mouse starts wobling back and forth 4-5 times a second. Checking the log, it seems like the system cant decide on a correct resolution and changing it back and forth between different resolutions 4-5 times a second. Re: [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1304912] Re: Ubuntu 14.04 laptop uses lot of power switchable graphics
This improvement is just by moving from 14.04 to 14.10. I just cat'ed my grub config and I do not have radeom.dpm stated there anymore. It should be active by default anyway. 2014-12-16 14:26 GMT+01:00 Goran Obal goran_o...@amis.net: Lars, is this improvement just after going from 14.04 to 14.10 or did you try adding radeon.dpm=1 to grub? -- You received this bug notification because you are subscribed to the bug report. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1304912 Title: Ubuntu 14.04 laptop uses lot of power switchable graphics Status in xserver-xorg-video-ati package in Ubuntu: Confirmed Bug description: I have a Samsung Series 7 Chronos 700Z3A-S02DE. It uses an i5-2450m (Intel HD3000) and an AMD 6490m dedicated graphics card. Since Ubuntu 14.04 uses Linux kernel 3.13 it enables dpm by default. This causes the graphics card to be shut down to dynoff when not used and should make it use (almost) no power. However, the laptop fans are working all the time and the laptop produces quite a lot of noise (the CPU does not heat as sensors are at 60°C). The sensor for the graphcis card always shows -128°C. Using powertop it reveals that the laptop consumes around 34W on battery. Looking on the list where the usage is shown per device it shows the radeon graphics card with 0%. I think there is a bug and the graphics card is NOT shutdown correctly to not use any noticable power. I would appreciate if I can help you to find the issue and if you need any more information. --- .tmp.unity.support.test.0: ApportVersion: 2.14.1-0ubuntu1 Architecture: amd64 CompizPlugins: No value set for `/apps/compiz-1/general/screen0/options/active_plugins' CompositorRunning: compiz CompositorUnredirectDriverBlacklist: '(nouveau|Intel).*Mesa 8.0' CompositorUnredirectFSW: true DistUpgraded: Fresh install DistroCodename: trusty DistroRelease: Ubuntu 14.04 DistroVariant: ubuntu DkmsStatus: bcmwl, 6.30.223.141+bdcom, 3.13.0-20-generic, x86_64: installed bcmwl, 6.30.223.141+bdcom, 3.13.0-21-generic, x86_64: installed bcmwl, 6.30.223.141+bdcom, 3.13.0-23-generic, x86_64: installed ExtraDebuggingInterest: Yes, if not too technical GraphicsCard: Intel Corporation 2nd Generation Core Processor Family Integrated Graphics Controller [8086:0126] (rev 09) (prog-if 00 [VGA controller]) Subsystem: Samsung Electronics Co Ltd Device [144d:c0b3] Advanced Micro Devices, Inc. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1403275] [NEW] i915 display driver causes crash back to login window
Public bug reported: I've just installed Ubuntu 14.04 server on Dell Latitude E7440 and then installed Cinnamon 2.4.5 on top of it. The laptop has an external monitor connected through Display Port and a docking station. On the first day the system worked perfectly. On the second day, the system booted to the login screen (leaving the external screen empty but otherwise seemed to be under X11's control), it then let me type my username and password but then X exits, shows a bit of VT1 with errors then gets back to the login page. I found the following error in /var/log/kern.log: [drm:intel_dp_complete_link_train] ERROR failed to train DP, aborting I found a page which claims to solve this error for 12.04 in the second comment in https://www.libreoffice.org/bugzilla/show_bug.cgi?id=73694#c2. I found that the file linux- source-3.13.0/drivers/gpu/drm/i915/intel_dp.c, which is included in the tar file /usr/src/linux-source-3.13.0.tar.bz2 (also copied in /usr/src /linux-source-3.13.0/linux-source-3.13.0.tar.bz2), from the kernel source package linux-source-3.13.0, contains the pre-patch lines mentioned in the fix above. Would you please consider including this fix in the Ubuntu kernel? Thanks, --Amos For completeness, the patch pointed to from the link above is: Link: https://www.libreoffice.org/bugzilla/attachment.cgi?id=92231 diff --git a/drivers/gpu/drm/i915/intel_dp.c b/drivers/gpu/drm/i915/intel_dp.c index 8f17f8fbd0b1..5631cfb874db 100644 --- a/drivers/gpu/drm/i915/intel_dp.c +++ b/drivers/gpu/drm/i915/intel_dp.c @@ -847,8 +847,8 @@ intel_dp_compute_config(struct intel_encoder *encoder, mode_rate = intel_dp_link_required(adjusted_mode-crtc_clock, bpp); - for (clock = 0; clock = max_clock; clock++) { - for (lane_count = 1; lane_count = max_lane_count; lane_count = 1) { + for (lane_count = 1; lane_count = max_lane_count; lane_count = 1) { + for (clock = 0; clock = max_clock; clock++) { link_clock = drm_dp_bw_code_to_link_rate(bws[clock]); link_avail = intel_dp_max_data_rate(link_clock, lane_count); ProblemType: Bug DistroRelease: Ubuntu 14.04 Package: xorg 1:7.7+1ubuntu8 ProcVersionSignature: Ubuntu 3.13.0-43.72-generic 3.13.11.11 Uname: Linux 3.13.0-43-generic x86_64 ApportVersion: 2.14.1-0ubuntu3.6 Architecture: amd64 CurrentDesktop: X-Cinnamon Date: Wed Dec 17 12:57:10 2014 InstallationDate: Installed on 2014-12-15 (1 days ago) InstallationMedia: Ubuntu-Server 14.04.1 LTS Trusty Tahr - Release amd64 (20140722.3) SourcePackage: xorg Symptom: display Title: Xorg crash UpgradeStatus: No upgrade log present (probably fresh install) ** Affects: xorg (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Tags: amd64 apport-bug crash trusty -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xorg in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1403275 Title: i915 display driver causes crash back to login window To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xorg/+bug/1403275/+subscriptions ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp
Re: [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1401743] Re: HP Z210 workstation with nvidia Quadro 600 card thinks 32 inch sharp TV/monitor is 37 inch
Hello Christopher: I am afraid that I flubbed the initial process of updating the bios by making the mistake of (as advised by hp's update instructions on extracting the dos executable to restore factory default settings to bios before updating old bios 1.41) restoring the default bios settings meant that my dual boot system became dominated by windows before I could even update the bios and I did not have a backup of the efi boot through the cab extract method. But after this I was able to flash the bios in the pre boot environment so that my bios is now updated to 1.47. Following this I was unable to reinstall Ubuntu or reinable Grub2 boot in fact it was only by wiping my hard drive (my mistakes have cost many lost hours ) completely with a gparted cd that I was able to install Ubuntu again. The bios update has not made any difference in the accommodating of the error in configuring the 32 inch monitor as if it was a 37 inch monitor. The output from your terminal command was as expected: J51 v01.47 07/18/2013 but no gain just pain and I have lost my dual boot with windows 8.1 and days of updates from windows 8, and a lost hauppauge WinTV pvr configuration that I could never get to work with Linux. Oh well! Best of the season John Ellis On 2014-12-13 04:13 AM, Christopher M. Penalver wrote: John Ellis, thank you for reporting this and helping make Ubuntu better. As per http://h20564.www2.hp.com/hpsc/swd/public/readIndex?sp4ts.oid=5053191swLangOid=8swEnvOid=4060 an update to your BIOS is available (1.47). If you update to this following https://help.ubuntu.com/community/BIOSUpdate does it change anything? If it doesn't, could you please both specify what happened, and provide the output of the following terminal command: sudo dmidecode -s bios-version sudo dmidecode -s bios-release-date For more on BIOS updates and linux, please see https://help.ubuntu.com/community/ReportingBugs#Bug_reporting_etiquette . Please note your current BIOS is already in the Bug Description, so posting this on the old BIOS would not be helpful. As well, you don't have to create a new bug report. Once the BIOS is updated, then please mark this report Status Confirmed. Thank you for your understanding. ** Tags added: bios-outdated-1.47 ** Changed in: xorg (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided = Low ** Changed in: xorg (Ubuntu) Status: New = Incomplete -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xorg in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1401743 Title: HP Z210 workstation with nvidia Quadro 600 card thinks 32 inch sharp TV/monitor is 37 inch To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xorg/+bug/1401743/+subscriptions ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp
