[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1418295] Re: Black screen after resuming from suspend

2015-02-05 Thread Jeremy Jongsma
Switching VTs has no effect, tried several times just now. Killing the
unity-panel-service resolved it again. I usually have to kill -9 it,
then a new one respawns, then I kill that one normally, and the lock
screen generally reappears then.

I'll install today's driver update and recheck next time it occurs.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 980519] Re: Random log off in Ubuntu 12.04 LTS

2015-02-05 Thread Quang Luong
I also got this bug recently. At random clicks on random programs
(Chrome, web site links, etc), I would get logged out (black screen that
flutters constantly between the login until I click on the mouse, move
the mouse, type something, or in some cases wait long enough, in which a
stable login screen will appear to allow me to log back in). However, I
was able to fix this issue by not using unity. Instead I installed
gnome and logged out and back in with gnome (I'm using the class with no
effects version). Hope this helps.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1418295] Re: Black screen after resuming from suspend

2015-02-05 Thread Jeremy Jongsma
I was hopeful, it worked great a few times in a row, but as I was about
to call it fixed it came back. This time the desktop was visible instead
of black, but again I couldn't interact with anything.

Killing unity-panel-service was the solution again. I reported this here
because I saw a lot of similar reports on the intel driver from previous
Ubuntu releases, but I'm beginning to wonder if it's a Unity issue.

issue. From multiple reports (incuding some in the RHBZ[1]), 3.16 works
and 3.17 has issues. 3.18 and 3.19-rc7 have no improvements.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1418679] [NEW] Multiline text controls occasionally get corrupted on refresh

2015-02-05 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
You have been subscribed to a public bug:

I have recently updated from Ubuntu 12.04 (32-bit) to Ubuntu MATE 14.10
(64-bit).

After upgrading, I find that some text controls have a refresh issue
that seems to get triggered either by scrolling or adding a new line
when the text already contains more lines than can be displayed at a
time. This happens infrequently and is not always reproducible.

The issue is that some lines in the text control show as blank lines. I
have noticed this happen in the following applications:

* Eclipse 3.8
* Thunderbird (various versions)
* Firefox (various versions). In Firefox text is occasionally clipped, but not
necessarily at line boundaries.

Other applications seem fine, it might be related to the widget toolkit
(OTOH, the apps above use two different widget toolkits – Eclipse uses
SWT while the other two use XUL).

I am also seeing a different kind of output corruption in Terminal,
which may or may not be related. Similar to the above, it happens when I
press ENTER while at the bottom of the terminal window.

I have seen the same issue on a second computer running a custom Linux
build based on Kubuntu 12.04 (32-bit) with some components (including
the kernel) being later versions than what is included in 12.04.

A third computer, also running Ubuntu MATE 14.10, does not seem to have
this issue.

This seems to be a bug introduced into Ubuntu after 12.04, though I
can't tell which component is at fault. It is possibly related to
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/openjdk-7/+bug/1239607.

I will post more details (including screenshots) soon, so bear with me.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1253068] Re: Constant GPU Lock-ups with Ubuntu 14.04 13.04 and 13.10

2015-02-05 Thread Luis Mendes
The reported bug for my graphics card wasn't actually a driver problem, instead
it was an issue with the hardware card itself.
GraphicsCard:
 NVIDIA Corporation G73 [GeForce 7600 GS] [10de:02e1] (rev a2) (prog-if 00 [VGA
controller])
Subsystem: Gigabyte Technology Co., Ltd Device [1458:3428]
This particular card is passive cooled and due to normal usage it probably
overheated several times degrading the soldering quality a electrical contacts,
so that at a given point in time the above described was verified. However the
problem persisted like that for a long time it eventually conducted to a fully
non working graphics card. Such that the computer would boot but no image would
ever be displayed.
The problem was fixed by ressoldering the GPU chip and including active cooling
to the graphics card.
Now the same card works properly with Ubuntu 14.04LTS.

I think this problem can be closed, at least for my side.

Thanks Best regards

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1394997] Re: 8086:0f31 Intel graphics corruption since upgrade to Ubuntu 14.10

2015-02-05 Thread Daniel Drake
That might be true, as I just downgraded to xf86-video-intel version
2.99.910-0ubuntu1.3 (i.e. the version from 14.04) and I still get the
titlebar problem. I'll look for some time to experiment with different
Mesa versions.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1416601] Re: touchpad does not respond to tap-to-clicks in I2C mode in Ubuntu 15.04 on 2015 XPS 13 (9343)

2015-02-05 Thread Mario Limonciello
Yes, nothing on 3.18

Originally I didn't test any of the stable releases for 3.18, it was the
standard 3.18, I believe the hash assigned to the tag 'v3.18'.
http://kernel.ubuntu.com/~kernel-ppa/mainline/v3.18-vivid/

It would make sense to me if it was broken somewhere in between v3.18
and v3.18.3 though as lots of stuff that goes into mainline backports to
@stable.

I went back and tried the stable releases on the mainline PPA.
v3.18.1: OK
v3.18.2: OK
v3.18.3: Reproduces problem

Between 3.18 and 3.19-rc1 there's 4 commits to i2c-hid (most likely culprit
driver to me)
d1c7e29e8d276c669e8790bb8be9f505ddc4 HID: i2c-hid: prevent buffer overflow
in early IRQ
721564a950fdbc07adf9c1e114b73feb97446ec2 i2c-hid / PM: Replace
CONFIG_PM_RUNTIME with CONFIG_PM
6296f4a8eb86f9abcc370fb7a1a116b8441c17fd HID: i2c-hid: fix race condition
reading reports
08bb7beae7fe102939fe5931222fc09e10d27cda HID: i2c-hid: print the correct data
in dbg msg

Between 3.18.2 and 3.18.3 these other two stand out to me - same as they were
between 3.18 and 3.19-rc1
HID: i2c-hid: prevent buffer overflow in early IRQ
HID: i2c-hid: fix race condition reading reports

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1308105]

2015-02-05 Thread Andreldm1989-j
My fault, I wrote this little guide at work and due an annoying proxy I
couldn't git clone... so I downloaded the latest release from:
http://git.xfce.org/xfce/xfce4-settings/snapshot/xfce4-settings-4.11.3.tar.bz2

IDK, maybe the following commit has broken the patch:
http://git.xfce.org/xfce/xfce4-settings/commit/xfsettingsd/displays.c?id=404d982f2936a58649423642956be563982b2ffa

It's seems to be fairly simple to update the patch, but I'm bit in a
hurry, if none does that, as soon as possible I'll upload a new patch.

Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. It seems that there was an error on your system when
trying to install a particular package. Please execute the following
command, as it will clear your package cache, in a terminal:

sudo apt-get clean

Then try performing the update again. This will likely resolve your
issue, but the failure could be caused by filesystem or memory
corruption. So please also run a fsck on your filesystem(s) and a
memory test. Thanks in advance!

[This is an automated message. I apologize if it reached you
inappropriately; please just reply to this message indicating so.]

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1416601] Re: touchpad does not respond to tap-to-clicks in I2C mode in Ubuntu 15.04 on 2015 XPS 13 (9343)

2015-02-05 Thread Major Hayden
Mario --

So 3.18 didn't have any touchpad freeze or tapping issues? I've tested
3.18.3 and 3.18.5 on Fedora and they have the freezes. I'm wondering if
something broke between 3.18.0 and 3.18.3. Do you have any additional
details on that 3.18 kernel you tested? Perhaps the git hash?

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1416601] Re: touchpad does not respond to tap-to-clicks in I2C mode in Ubuntu 15.04 on 2015 XPS 13 (9343)

2015-02-05 Thread Mario Limonciello
I didn't do a proper bisect, but I have a variety of mainline kernels
from the mainline PPA I tried.

v3.16 works properly
v3.17 some rc's are using ps2 mode due to some i2c failure, others work properly
v3.18 works properly
v3.19-rc1 fails
v3.19-rc5 fails
v3.19-rc6 fails

Whenever someone does a proper bisect, make sure that i2c-hid is loaded
and in use. it might help to blacklist psmouse to ensure that it
doesn't fall back to psmouse in case of a different failure. There is a
different problem with psmouse that is not this bug.

Also, make sure that you are NOT booted with acpi_osi=!Windows 2013.
This will cause the touchpad to only run in PS2 mode. The problem is
specific to I2C mode.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1414930] Re: Buttons of Synaptics trackpad doesn't work

2015-02-05 Thread Ben Hearsum
I'm hitting this on Ubuntu 14.10 as well. Out of the box, the left
button generates button 4 events, the right button generates button 5
events, and the middle button generates nothing at all.

The situation improves a little bit by setting UpDownScrolling=0
(synclient UpDownScrolling=0), after which the left button generates a
double left click and the right button generates a button 2 event.
However, both buttons generates the press _and_release events right away
- and no event is generated when the physical button is released.

2015-02-05 Thread Ubuntu Foundations Team Bug Bot
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. It seems that there was an error on your system when
trying to install a particular package. Please execute the following
command, as it will clear your package cache, in a terminal:

sudo apt-get clean

Then try performing the update again. This will likely resolve your
issue, but the failure could be caused by filesystem or memory
corruption. So please also run a fsck on your filesystem(s) and a
memory test. Thanks in advance!

[This is an automated message. I apologize if it reached you
inappropriately; please just reply to this message indicating so.]

2015-02-05 Thread Andreldm1989-j
@Dave
For Ubuntu 14.04, this is how your you can build xfsettings with the patches:

sudo apt-get install xfce4-dev-tools libexo-1-dev libgarcon-1-0-dev
libxfce4ui-1-dev
git clone git://git.xfce.org/xfce/xfce4-settings
cd xfce4-settings
curl https://bugzilla.xfce.org/attachment.cgi?id=5681 alexander-patch.diff
curl https://bugzilla.xfce.org/attachment.cgi?id=5723 sean-patch.diff
Choose a patch to Apply: patch -p1 patch
./autogen.sh make sudo make install
/usr/local/bin/xfsettings --replace

If you wanna to try other patch, first remove what's applied:
patch -R -p1 applied patch

After playing, remember to remove the installed xfsettings:
sudo make uninstall

2015-02-05 Thread Will Cooke
As a first step could you try switching to vt1 and back to vt7 without
killing unity-panel-service. This will help to narrow down the problem.
Switching vt might be enough to get the video woken up, and unity-panel-
service might be a bit of a red herring.

2015-02-05 Thread Maarten Lankhorst
I needed to do something like apt-get install xserver-xorg-lts-utopic

John Gilbertson (blackcap93) wrote on 2015-01-29: #13
The new xorg/mesa packages should, but don't, have a Provides:
name-of-package-being-replaced field in the Debian control file, to avoid
breaking other installed packages which depend on the older xorg/mesa packages
by name; for example, the lib-gl1-mesa-glx-lts-utopic package's control file
should contain Provides: lib-gl1-mesa-glx

$ apt-cache show libgl1-mesa-glx-lts-utopic | grep Provides
Provides: libgl1, libgl1-mesa-glx, xorg-renamed-package,
xorg-renamed-package-lts-utopic

Although the provides: libgl1 should be enough in this case, no need for
an explicit libgl1-mesa-glx but it's there anyway. ;-)

It was a deliberate choice made to prevent information leaking from the
Xserver on VT switch. You need a recent kernel as well as a recent ddx
to only disable the planes on the CRTC, not the whole CRTC. This should
be ready in vivid.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1297144] Re: Invisible cursor after resume from suspend

2015-02-05 Thread Nicholas Nelson
I am also having the invisible cursor problem after waking up from
suspend on HP Desktop AMD 64. I got the mouse cursor back by locking
with xscreensaver.

I ran the command using alt + f2

xscreensaver-command --lock

Cursor reappeared on lock screen and after entering password the cursor
was back.

It's been weeks. Is there anything happening to getting this fixed in the
packages?
I can't upgrade because of this bug.
