[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1426370] [NEW] Wrong keyboard layout after suspend
Public bug reported: I use several keyboards on my machine, with different layouts. If you update to this following https://help.ubuntu.com/community/BIOSUpdate does it change anything? If it doesn't, could you please both specify what happened, and provide the output of the following terminal command: sudo dmidecode -s bios-version sudo dmidecode -s bios-release-date For more on BIOS updates and linux, please see https://help.ubuntu.com/community/ReportingBugs#Bug_reporting_etiquette . Please note your current BIOS is already in the Bug Description, so posting this on the old BIOS would not be helpful. As well, you don't have to create a new bug report. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1412730] Re: DELL U2415 monitor detection issues
Christopher, Vivid with fglrx: none off the reported issues exist. U2415 is detected every time, display resolution is right, also dpms powersaving works as expected. In ATI control Center all hardware is detected. Also no xrandr issues Trusty with fglrx: same as with vivid, none of the issues. The main reason I'm not using fglrx is because it's proprietary, but also because the opensource radeon gives much better perfomance. With fglrx there is lag in windows moving and resizing, also in videos. Next to that there is a lot of tearing visible. Whem turning on tear-free in Catalyst Control Center the lag gets even worse. So fglrx is a workaround, but not a pleasant one. The lag and tearing is visible too many times during daily work. At the moment I prefer my own workaround as mentioned above with the radeon driver and drm helper kernel parameter. This way the displays work great without lag, but when booting, switching users in Unity or just going in suspend/standby I have to put the screen off and on a couple of times to get it out of standby. One thing I noticed with the radeon driver: switching back and forth between vt7 and and another vt gets the U2415 out of standby too (eventually). -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xorg in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1412730 Title: DELL U2415 monitor detection issues To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xorg/+bug/1412730/+subscriptions ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1367870] Re: Ubuntu 14.04 system with Radeon HD 6330M hangs regularly, especially when using Google Chrome
OK, I've cleared the CMOS data by setting the appropriate jumper on the motherboard. I've also taken out the CMOS battery for a while. But I still can't boot the PC - I still see nothing on the screen. I've also burnt a CD with SystemRescueCD on it. I can put it in the PC's drive but it won't boot from it. To my mind this all suggests the BIOS was flashed successfully but that the new version is incompatible. Do you have any ideas on how to proceed please? Is it possible to flash the BIOS chip with the original BIOS version I was using? -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xorg in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1367870 Title: Ubuntu 14.04 system with Radeon HD 6330M hangs regularly, especially when using Google Chrome To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xorg/+bug/1367870/+subscriptions ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1367870] Re: Ubuntu 14.04 system with Radeon HD 6330M hangs regularly, especially when using Google Chrome
Hi Christopher - thanks for following this up. As the machine was a dual boot with Windows Vista (32 bit) I rebooted the machine into Windows to perform the BIOS upgrade. I ran the .exe file you pointed me at, then ran the 32-bit version of flash.bat from a DOS prompt. The old BIOS was erased and the new one appeared to be written ok. Then the machine was shut down by the program. However it won't boot up again! All I get when I switch the PC on is a low humming noise that lasts indefinitely. I see nothing at all on the screen - no BIOS info, nothing. I'm writing to you from a different machine now. So it strongly looks like the BIOS upgrade failed:(. I have to go to work now but I'm hoping you'll be able to advise me on how to recover the machine when I get back. Presumably there's some way of getting a BIOS onto a new PC before any OS is installed since the BIOS has to be there first? I'm happy to try with the new BIOS again, or, if that fails, somehow get hold of the original BIOS version again. But right now my smoothly working machine has been transformed into an almost dead lump of metal:(. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1412932] Re: Brightness doesn't change
Igor Daniel, this bug was reported a while ago and there hasn't been any activity in it recently. We were wondering if this is still an issue? If so, could you please test for this with the latest development release of Ubuntu? ISO images are available from http://cdimage.ubuntu.com /daily-live/current/ . If it remains an issue, could you please run the following command in the development release from a Terminal as it will automatically gather and attach updated debug information to this report: apport-collect -p xorg 1412932 Please ensure you have xdiagnose installed, and that you click the Yes button for attaching additional debugging information. As well, given the information from the prior release is already available, testing a release prior to the development one would not be helpful. Thank you for your understanding. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1366876] Re: Xorg freeze
James Ferguson, regarding the first issue chronologically of Chrome crashing, you would want to file a new report following the reporting instructions verbatim from http://www.chromium.org/for-testers/bug- reporting-guidelines . Regarding the collateral damage issue of a GPU hang, this bug report will be scoped to that only. However, while the code suggest to file a report upstream, it wouldn't quite yet be appropriate given your use of an older gfx stack. Hence, could you please test for this via http://cdimage.ubuntu.com /daily-live/current/ and advise to the results? ** Changed in: xorg (Ubuntu) Importance: Low = Medium -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xorg in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1366876 Title: Xorg freeze To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xorg/+bug/1366876/+subscriptions ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1412730] Re: DELL U2415 monitor detection issue
Michiel Janssens, just to clarify, this report will only be scoped to the issue regarding monitor detection on boot, not any of the other issues. At the point where the login screen appears the 2415 goes in power save mode, most of the time. After logging in, turning the 2415 off and on, sometimes helps the get the screen active (out of power save). + When it gets active, the resolution is 1024x768, not 1920x1200. In unity-control-center in display settings the 2415 is displayed as Unknown Display and the maximum resolution I can select is 1024x768. - Second issue: - After a laptop suspend the 2415 doenst alway become active again, the 2412 always. - Turning off an on the 2415 multiple time mostly helps to get the screen active. + Current partial workaround: + xorg.conf with monitor section for 1920x1200 as in attachment. + This doesn't solve booting in 1024x768, but solves the resolution after logging in. unity-control-center still lists Unknown Screen - Current partial workaround: - xorg.conf with monitor section for 1920x1200 as in attatchment. - This doesn't solve booting in 1024x768, but solves the resolution after logging in. - unity-control-center still lists Unknown Screen - - Another strange behavior: - when executing xrandr command, most of the time the 2415 stays in 1024, but after a number of executions the screen swithes to 1920x1200. At that moment xrandr outputs all possible resolutions as it should. - When executing xrandr another time the 2415 switches back to 1024x768 - - Already tried kernel v3.18.3-vivid, no change. - Also tried Utopic live cd, no change. - Tried Windows 8.1, no issues with both screens. (however my main OS is Ubuntu trusty, so..., just for testing) + Tried Windows 8.1, no issues with both screens.
