[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1577170] Re: screen cannot be turned back on after being switched off after some time of inactivity

2016-07-05 Thread Michel Dänzer
Does this updated version of the patch work better? If not:

The black screen when changing between one and two monitors never
happens without this patch?

Please attach the output of xrandr --verbose when both monitors are
enabled.

P.S. Thanks for reporting the compile warning, but it's harmless and not
related to my patches or your issues.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1078068] Re: Video blinking blue during incoming call

2016-07-05 Thread Nish Aravamudan
Ok, so I figured it was best to test the version in Yakkety. I rebuilt
in Xenial locally and tested it, it fixed the problem for me! So that's
exciting.

I've put this in the same PPA as
2:2.99.917+git20160522-1ubuntu1~16.04ppa1. I'm not sure it's appropriate
to SRU the whole version, but given we're running a git snapshot (it
seems) in 16.04 too, maybe it'd be fine. I'm going to update some of the
bug metadata to make it clear where the bug is.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1597079] Re: AMDGPU Black Screen when Booting

2016-07-05 Thread James Payne
Just to update I have tried the nomodeset parameter previously (sorry
hadn't put that in the description)

The OS does load and you get visuals but its using the software
rendering and will only allow 800x600 resolution and refuses to change
to anything other than that.

Just to note I have tried the AMDGPU-PRO beta driver v16.30 (just on the
off-chance) since posting, and it does allow you to boot with full
1920x1080 resolution to the logon screen. Attempting to log on either
causes a complete crash or display corruption though.

I will look at the BIOS update in the meantime :)

Any thing else I can do please let me know as this Ubuntu install isn't
doing anything else at the moment so I can play ;)

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1598993] Re: xrandr scaling corrupts external monitor output

2016-07-05 Thread Jim Cline
For any who are affected by this, here is a work-around. I was able to add a
screen resolution
that was detected for my internal monitor, but not for the external one, using
xrandr --addmode.
It gets the width of the screen right, but truncates the bottom. However
panning makes the
bottom accessible, so this is not a serious limitation.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1577170] Re: screen cannot be turned back on after being switched off after some time of inactivity

2016-07-05 Thread Christophe
Michel, this patch seems to work quite well, but still showing some strange
behaviour. To sum up, with the new patch :
- with one or two screens used, when the screens goes off after some time of
inactivity, they can be woken up by moving the mouse.
- when two screens are used, from time to time, the screen connected via the
VGA port of the graphics card does not goes off. (Its light dims, the screen
goes black and then shows the login page again, the dvi-connected screen
staying off until I move the mouse). With only one screen used (the dvi one),
this behaviour does not appear until now.
- Using the ubuntu screen selector, from time to time, when I change from two
screens to one screen, the screen goes black only showing the mouse arrow. I
have to go to tty1 then press ctrl alt f7 to see the normal screen again. Once,
doing this, even the keyboard and the mouse stopped responding.
- During the make process of the driver (with the patch), I still get the same
warning :
radeon_drm_queue.c: In function ‘radeon_drm_queue_alloc’:
radeon_drm_queue.c:95:9: warning: return makes integer from pointer without a
cast [-Wint-conversion]
  return NULL;

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1578011] Re: Laptop sometimes doesn't detect external monitor when docked

2016-07-05 Thread Christopher M. Penalver
vik, as per http://support.lenovo.com/us/en/products/Laptops-and-
netbooks/ThinkPad-Yoga-Series-laptops/ThinkPad-
Yoga/20C0/S1CWAU?linkTrack=GPS%253ABody_Search%2BProducts==false
an update to your computer's buggy, insecure, and outdated BIOS is
available (1.29). When you update to this following
https://help.ubuntu.com/community/BIOSUpdate how does this improve the
situation?

For more on BIOS updates and linux, please see
https://help.ubuntu.com/community/ReportingBugs#Bug_reporting_etiquette
.

Please note your current BIOS is already in the Bug Description, so
posting this on the old BIOS would not be helpful.

Also, you don't have to create a new bug report.

Once the BIOS is updated, if the problem is still reproducible:
1) Please provide the output of the following terminal command (not perform an
apport-collect):
sudo dmidecode -s bios-version && sudo dmidecode -s bios-release-date
2) Please make a comment specifically advising on if there was an improvement
or not.
3) Please mark this report Status New.

If it's not reproducible, please mark this as Invalid.

Thank you for your help.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1596878] Re: Mouse flickering and mouse trails with DL screen attached

2016-07-05 Thread Christina Lena Korosec
I have not had the use case in question on older versions so I don't know.
If you want me to I can install several older versions of Ubuntu later and see
if the problem occurs in those versions as well.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1576844] Re: Touchpad/Trackpad freezes then eventually unfreezes (repeatedly)

2016-07-05 Thread mash
On the advice of Chris Penalver (thank you, once again), I upgraded my
Dell XPS 13 (9343) from BIOS A05 to BIOS A07 (see thread above for
guidance on how to make the upgrade. I downloaded the new BIOS
9343_BIOS_Rev_A07.exe from
http://www.dell.com/support/home/us/en/04/Drivers/DriversDetails?driverId=28M21
and followed the instructions above.

The following command(s) report the BIOS and release date:
sudo dmidecode -s bios-version && sudo dmidecode -s bios-release-date

which are, after the upgrade:
A07
11/11/2015

The new BIOS appears to have resolved the problem, or at least I've had
no recurrences since making the BIOS upgrade

Thank you.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1599101] [NEW] Rendering corrupted after suspend

2016-07-05 Thread gergnz
Public bug reported:

A recent update has made it almost impossible to use almost anything on
the desktop without a complete restart of X.

This has only started happening in about the last week. Prior to that
for the past 3 years, this hasn't been a problem.

Mostly it's all fonts that are missing, but there are also odd
artifacts. I'm not entirely sure where this is a bug (intel driver,
xorg, xfce).

See a screenshot showing all the tray icons and titles on the panel have
no words (e.g. fonts are missing) and notice on the desktop, menu of
leafpad and terminal, all are missing menus and fonts.

No LSB modules are available.
Distributor ID: Ubuntu
Description:Ubuntu 16.04 LTS
Release:16.04
Codename: xenial

Up to date as of 05 July 2016.

Has starting happening in the last week, and most of the time I'm up to

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1583303] Re: Laptop not going to suspend when lid closed

2016-07-05 Thread rjb
Hi Christopher

I just tried updating the BIOS using Windows 10 (it's a dualboot system). But
it seems the BIOS F.67A is not yet supported by Windows 10:
- There's no BIOS update available for download, if you chose Windows 10
- Tried with the BIOS update by chosing Windows 8.1 as OS. BIOS update was
successful, rebooted and after some screen blinking suddenly the BIOS recovery
started and probably flashed the previous BIOS F.66 back. When I looked at the
BIOS setup it does list W7, W8 and W8.1 but not W10 compatibility.

However, my BIOS shows now F.67 - not sure if that's true.
Will wait for HP to hopefully release something for Windows 10 and then retry
and keep you updated.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 289023] [NEW] Wheel emulation doesn't work after suspend/resume

2016-07-05 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
You have been subscribed to a public bug:

I have a thinkpad X60.

I turn on wheel emulation for the built-in trackpoint using the
following xinput commands:

xinput set-int-prop $DEVICEID "Wheel Emulation" 8 1
xinput set-int-prop $DEVICEID "Wheel Emulation Button" 8 2

When I do this, wheel emulation starts working fine. However, if i
suspend to RAM and resume, wheel emulation stops working, even if i
reissue the above commands.

xev shows that the button 2 even is still getting through, but scrolling
doesn't work in any of the apps.

** Affects: xinput (Ubuntu)
 Importance: Undecided
 Status: Confirmed
