Re: [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1860483] Re: [nouveau, GeForce 7300 LE] screen background overlaid with scan type artifact in red

2020-04-28 Thread Paul Collinsworth
I replaced the Nvidia video card in my system and the problem seems to
have gone with it.

I had seen an improvement with the Nvidia card after switching from the
digital video output to the on-card VGA output, but over a period of a
couple of weeks or so, the video degraded again.

The new card is a VisionTek Radeon 5450.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1874980] Re: Screen not responding after shut down

2020-04-28 Thread Daniel van Vugt
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. It sounds like some part of the system has crashed. To
help us find the cause of the crash please follow these steps:

1. Look in /var/crash for crash files and if found run:
ubuntu-bug YOURFILE.crash
Then tell us the ID of the newly-created bug.

2. If step 1 failed then look at https://errors.ubuntu.com/user/ID where
ID is the content of file /var/lib/whoopsie/whoopsie-id on the machine.
Do you find any links to recent problems on that page? If so then please
send the links to us.

3. If step 2 also failed then apply the workaround from bug 994921,
reboot, reproduce the crash, and retry step 1.

Please take care to avoid attaching .crash files to bugs as we are
unable to process them as file attachments. It would also be a security
risk for yourself.

2020-04-28 Thread Juerg Haefliger
I've noticed that the kernel you're running is quite old. Are you still
able to reproduce this issue with a current image from
http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/ubuntu-server/daily-preinstalled/current/?

Also, how did you install xfce? Can you please detail the steps so we
can try to reproduce the issue? Lastly, when your display goes off, does
it turn off (go into standby) or is it just blanked?

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 597476] Re: GeForce 7150M / nForce 630M uses an unusable resolution by default

2020-04-28 Thread Ty Thompson
Can confirm, it's the Nvidia driver installed however now. Will work on
external monitor if the monitor is plugged in prior to boot. GeForce 7150m as
well.
Horizontal double image, stretched vertical with interlacing.

What makes this unusual is the mouse cursor stays within the side bounds
of the screen undistorted and clicks are where the image should have
been horizontally but matches image location vertically. Mouse is
bounded to screen sides but will go down to the off screen to where the
bottom of image should be, about 2x screen height.

Thanks for the bug report. It appears at least half the problem was
using an old unsupported graphics driver, which makes this a duplicate
of bug 1867668.

To be sure you have removed that so we can focus on the remaining issues
more clearly, please now open a new bug by running:

  ubuntu-bug xorg

and then tell us the new bug ID.

Wayland uses a different setting which the Settings GUI does not control
(bug 1871864). You can set it manually:

gsettings set org.gnome.mutter experimental-features "['scale-monitor-

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1875759] Re: keeps crashing

Sorry for not filing this bug against wayland. The ubuntu-bug tool
wouldn't let me do so and I wanted to supply the logs it collects

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1873403] Re: [nvidia] Screen turns off when trying to set some fractional scaling values

2020-04-28 Thread Fusion
not live: tests as I remember:
without nvidia
100-->ok
125,150 too slow

with nvidia
100--> too small
200-->too big
enable fractional scaling
125-->200
150-->200
175 -->black
(stop/start freesync from monitor, restored - maybe random behavior)

2nd try
100-->ok
125-->black
(couldn't restore it, ctrl+alt+f1 & login = black again)

unistall nvidia tested drivers, try nouveau
after two changes, I could see ubuntu desktop became small or big inside my
screen and around it I cound draw with the window I was holding with the mouse.
If I put it inside ubuntu desktop area of my screen it works fine, outside
(right column and down line) it just performs like windows xp windows when it
stuck (never saw it again on ubuntu since 11.10 that I am using it).

live: test and keep these notes:
install nvidia again
reboot - 3rd try
100--> bigger desktop than my screen, needs to scroll (down or right) to see
the rest
200--> the same
enable fractional scaling (returns to 100 by itself)
150-->black
(stop/start freesync from monitor, restored - maybe random behavior)

100 --> enable fractional-->200 by itself
I repeat it, doesn't happen the second time
150-->black

remove nvidia* through synaptic
reboot
100-->ok
125,150,175 too slow
200-->ok

install nvidia tested
100-->οκ
200-->οκ
enable fractional scale-->turn to 100 itself
150-->black
125-->200
125(200) change back to 100 first
175-->black
200-->ok
on 200, close fractional scale-->instead of return to 100 itself it doubles the
area of the desktop (bigger than my real monitor area, so I have to scroll to
see the rest of the desktop)
100-->100 with the same large desktop area issue
deactivate fractional scale-->issue remain
logout,logon--> 100 & ok

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1875730] [NEW] Ubuntu 19.10+ screen corruption

2020-04-28 Thread Antoine Brunner
Public bug reported:

Last week-end, after restarting my T470s running Ubuntu 19.10, I
experienced a lot of visual glitches that didn't occur before. However,
I had already noticed that some applications were unexpectedly freezing
for about 5-10 seconds.

I have already tried reinstalling xorg, without success. Then, I tried
running Ubuntu 20.04 from a USB stick, and the problem doesn't occur.
Today, I have upgraded Ubuntu to version 20.04 to see if it would fix
it, but without success again.

Note that when I restart the display server (Alt-F2 -> r -> Enter), it
fixes the problem (sometimes I have to restart it several times).

I would be happy to give you more information if you need.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1875712] [NEW] Unusable graphics, nouveau + G73 (GEForce 7600)

2020-04-28 Thread Tim Hockin
Public bug reported:

This is an older card, but it worked well on ubuntu 12.x :)

Booting "Try Ubuntu" on 20.04 get the correct resolution and 2 displays,
but the video glitches and shows all sorts of noise. It is largely
unusable (which makes filing this bug very hard).

Safe Graphics works in low-res.

The nvidia proprietary driver seems to not support this device any more.
I like this card because it has no fan (and I don't do a lot of
graphics-intense stuff).

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1826597] Re: Synaptic touchpad not responding in ubuntu 19.04 when using nvidia drivers

2020-04-28 Thread Decio Della Fortuna
I confirm what zob wrote. I switched from Discrete to Hybrid mode in BIOS and
now touchpad work fine. I use Nvidia proprietary driver from ubuntu standard
repository (440.64), my only problem is screen tearing (PRIME profile set to
performance mode). I don't know if the drivers from PPA repository fix touchpad
and tearing problem. I read that Nvidia 440.66.11 Linux driver fixes annoying
bugs With PRIME Sync:
https://www.phoronix.com/scan.php?page=news_item=NVIDIA-440.66.11-Linux.
Previously I used the card in discrete mode with Fedora 31 and the proprietary
Nvidia drivers 440.82 from RPM Fusion repository without any problems for
touchpad or for tearing.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1875435] Re: Re-logging occurs continuously during ubuntu operation

2020-04-28 Thread Sergey
I tried to restore my old system to the ubuunt 19.10 from the disk image.
Install kernel 5.6.7 and nvidia 440.82 driver
The log that is higher is from this version. And as in the case of pure ubunta,
I again caught an error with relogin

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1875483] Re: vulkan failed with ERROR_INITIALIZATION_FAILED

2020-04-28 Thread Vova
Found how to solve this problem:

Add radeon.si_support=0 amdgpu.si_support=1 radeon.cik_support=0
amdgpu.cik_support=1 to GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX in /etc/default/grub. Do it
via the command line with a text editor such as Nano or Vim.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1875670] [NEW] Dual displays - dock is shown on the wrong display

2020-04-28 Thread Chris Martin
Public bug reported:

I have 2 displays
primary 30" dell
secondary 20" dell

In settings->screen-displays I have the primary screen set as the 30" Dell
BTW the 20" dell is incorrectly detected as a 18" display

However in settings->apperiance I have to set the put dock on the 20"
Dell to get it to appear on the 30" screen. and vise versa. If I
specify the 30" Dell for the dock, it appears on the 20" dell display

  Reproduction scenario's:
  1) Starting Kubuntu, screen flickers a couple of times during startup and
turns black for multiple seconds.
  2) Start a youtube video, near-constant flickering. Audio works fine.
  3) Open up various applications. Screen starts flickering every now and then.
  4) Leave pc unattended for a long time, screen starts flickering sporadically.

  Things I tried:
- * Use various kernels
- * linux kernel 3.4, 3.5, 3.6, 3.7rc2
- * Ubuntu port of linux kernel 3.4.0-26-generic + patch

+ * When using "nomodeset" kernel parameter Kubuntu 20.04 works, but then
there's no sound or hardware acceleration.

  What I think is happening:
- i915 is apperantly an unstable driver for eDP 1.4 screens.
- That, in combination with a 10'th gen intel cpu is not a good combination.
- According to dmesg the firmware of sof-audio-pci is restarting.

- [  324.866267] sof-audio-pci :00:1f.3: firmware boot complete
-
- Could the audio part of the eDP connection be breaking because of an
issue similar to the patch that is mentioned earlyer?

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1875649] Re: Screen flickering in Kubuntu 20.04 on Lenovo Yoga C940 14-IIL

2020-04-28 Thread Sjoerd Nijboer
This is a small piece of the log when watching a log.
the i915 eDP driver receives a "hotplug event received", which corresponds with
a slingle flickering of the screen.
So I assume something goes wrong with retraining the link, or for some reason
the screen thinks that the pc is disconnected and triggers an interrupt, which
then for some other reason flickers the screen.

I'm not well-versed with eDP 1.4, so I assume to be totally wrong.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1875645] Re: Graphics corruption on shell on login screen and session screen

Thank you for your bug report. Could you add your 'journalctl -b 0' log
after getting the issue? Could you also try with another desktop like
xfce to see if that's also an issue there?

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1875645] [NEW] Graphics corruption on shell on login screen and session screen

2020-04-28 Thread David White
Public bug reported:

After upgrading from 19.10 to 20.04 I am seeing blocky green and purple
artefacts on icons, background images and text. This is visible on the
login screen and once logged in.

Only the "shell" is corrupted and any subsequent changes, such as
changing the background image, are displayed without corruption. The
corruption is random but it is predictable that it will appear on the
launcher icons, background image and shell menu icons and text.

I've tried swapping between available graphics drivers but it makes no
difference.

Text corruption in menus is on particular glyphs selected at random. In
the screen shots, for example, all upper-case and lower-case 'O's are
currupted but on a subsequent reboot the affected glyphs will vary. On
filing this bug I also notice that the pop-up modal password requests
also displayed the corrupted glyphs. No programms run subsequently will
display any problems.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1875339] Re: xorg does not use nvidia gpu on a I+N machine.

2020-04-28 Thread Yuan-Chen Cheng
quick check the log, there is:

Is nvidia kernel module available? no

However, what installed is linux-modules-nvidia-440-5.4.0-26-generic,
which install the nvidia.ko to
/lib/modules/5.4.0-26-generic/kernel/nvidia-440/nvidia.ko instead of the
directory that gpu-manager check, which is /lib/modules/%s/updates/dkms.
