Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. It sounds like some part of the system has crashed. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1878050] Re: Nvidia GT 240m gives problems
I can see three issues: 1. You're using Ubuntu 16.04. While that is supported, it is not well supported. Please consider trying Ubuntu 20.04 instead: https://ubuntu.com/download/desktop 2. The nvidia driver (when it is working) reports the screen is faulty: [19.136] (WW) NVIDIA(GPU-0): The EDID read for display device DFP-0 is invalid: the [19.136] (WW) NVIDIA(GPU-0): checksum for EDID version 1 is invalid. Please try to get a BIOS update from Acer to fix that. 3. The Nvidia driver is possibly not installed properly. Please uninstall it completely. Then if the system still doesn't work without it, reinstall it. ** Package changed: xorg (Ubuntu) => xorg-server (Ubuntu) -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xorg in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1878050 Title: Nvidia GT 240m gives problems To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xorg-server/+bug/1878050/+subscriptions ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1877686] Re: Mouse lags since 20.04 update
There are some interesting PCI errors in your kernel log, which might be related. But if those are relevant then they would not be fixable in software. So I can't tell if this is a hardware issue, mutter issue, a kernel issue, a libinput issue or a Xorg issue. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1878091] [NEW] Non-fractional scaling not working
Public bug reported: My laptop has a 4K display. Default Resolution = 3840x2160, scale = 200%. If I set resolution to 1920x1080, everything on the desktop is scaled to double size. So, if I reduce the Scale setting from 200% to 100%, I would expect everything to look normal again, but it does not. 100% and 200% look identical. However, if I enable Fractional scaling and select 125%, that looks correct. So, Fractional scaling works correctly, but non-fractional scaling does not. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1878050] Re: Nvidia GT 240m gives problems
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and help make Ubuntu better. Unfortunately, we cannot work on this bug because your description didn't include enough information. You may find it helpful to read 'How to report bugs effectively' http://www.chiark.greenend.org.uk/~sgtatham/bugs.html. We'd be grateful if you would then provide a more complete description of the problem. We have instructions on debugging some types of problems at http://wiki.ubuntu.com/DebuggingProcedures. At a minimum, we need: 1. The specific steps or actions you took that caused you to encounter the problem. 2. The behavior you expected. 3. The behavior you actually encountered (in as much detail as possible). [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1877871] [NEW] X windows hnags following upgrade from 18.04 to 20.04
You have been subscribed to a public bug: Following an upgrade from 18.04 to 20.04 when I boot, X windows comes to a point where I get a white background with a bunch of colored dots. Nothing progresses from there. I can boot successfully by pressing escape after booting, going to advanced options, booting to 5.4.0-29 recovery mode. When that menu appears, I select "root". I press Enter for maintenance. When the root prompt appears I immediately type EXIT to return to the menu and then RESUME followed by OK. The system then starts the desktop properly. I would be happy to provide boot logs and/or Xorg.0.logs if desired. It appears to me that there are out of memory errors occurring along with some addressing issues. I am on an HP EliteBook 8570w laptop 15.6 G memory. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1877655] Re: Synaptic Trackpad does not work in Xorg sessions
I should note - I did try out xserver-xorg-input-synaptics yesterday prior to getting your email, it had no effect One thing I did find, I'm not sure if it has any bearing, but my current kernel is: 5.4.0-7626-generic With this kernel, as I mentioned before I could move the trackpad at the login screen, but the buttons didn't work; on login, no mouse input worked. I came across a thread about certain kernels having regression issues with certain trackpads, so I tried the original kernel that came with my distribution: 5.4.0-7625-generic Now, with that kernel, at the login screen I can move the trackpad AND use the trackpad buttons; still once I'm fully logged into the desktop the trackpad doesn't work at all. As I mentioned, not sure if this has any bearing, but I thought I should mention it. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to libinput in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1877655 Title: Synaptic Trackpad does not work in Xorg sessions To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/libinput/+bug/1877655/+subscriptions ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1877568] Re: WL: compositor bug: The compositor tried to use an object from one client in a 'wl_pointer.enter' for a different client (resulting in Gnome terminal crashing)
Turns out the online service was just a little slow to update, and there are in fact reports sent. But the only one post-20.04-upgrade is [1] from last week, which is a gnome-shell crash and IIRC, unrelated to the terminal issue here. It seemed to be triggered by something related to media files and Nautilus, and the logs from the time are different; I'm attaching them here. (I had separated gnome-shell logs out from the main syslog, but I've since reverted back to having everything in syslog.) * [1] https://errors.ubuntu.com/oops/26828e26-8fc9-11ea- acd0-fa163e983629 ** Attachment added: "gnome-shell.log" https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/mutter/+bug/1877568/+attachment/5369828/+files/gnome-shell.log -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to wayland in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1877568 Title: WL: compositor bug: The compositor tried to use an object from one client in a 'wl_pointer.enter' for a different client (resulting in Gnome terminal crashing) To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gnome-terminal/+bug/1877568/+subscriptions ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1877686] Re: Mouse lags since 20.04 update
@vanvugt 1. By lagging I mean that the cursor doesn't move in a continuous motion. Rather it shows up and stays in spots along the line I move it. Kind of like a video shot at a low framerate but not as consistent. As explained in my original post, it's only a graphical glitch. (e.g: When I try to move the mouse pointer over the left menu in settings, the boxes become highlighted even though the pointer is lagging behind.) 2. The problem persists when using Ubuntu on Wayland after selecting 'intel' mode in 'nVidia X Server settings'. Wayland is unavailable when using nVidia drivers (I think because they only support Xorg?). Notably, there is no issue on the lock screen using either driver. 3. During a quick test with the mate desktop, I experienced no issues. Other things that might be useful: I already stated that connecting a second monitor makes things better sometimes. I have now concluded that both connecting and disconnecting can usually fix things, at least temporarily. I have also experienced logging in without issues a few times. Even then, I experience some sporadic lag, but it's quite managable. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xorg-server in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1877686 Title: Mouse lags since 20.04 update To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xorg-server/+bug/1877686/+subscriptions ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

I'm on Ubuntu 20.04, using the nvidia-driver-440, and I am also experiencing wallpaper corruption issues whenever I unlock my desktop. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1877939] [NEW] Unwanted desktop panning when using two displays
You have been subscribed to a public bug: I use two displays. One has a resolution of 3840x2160, and another one is to the right of that with a resolution of 1080x1920 in "Portrait Left" mode. I use "Join Displays" in Settings > Displays. When I configure this setup using Settings > Displays, my main desktop ends up being too big, extending to the secondary monitor to the right. When I move my mouse to the right edge of the secondary screen, the desktop pans. When I arrange the secondary monitor to the left of my main display, this bug does not occur. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1877675] Re: Workspaces broken with latest update
Please check that you don't have any non-Ubuntu gnome-shell extensions installed. If you do then please uninstall them and reboot. If the problems persist after that then it sounds like some part of the system has crashed. To help us find the cause of the crash please follow these steps: 1. Look in /var/crash for crash files and if found run: ubuntu-bug YOURFILE.crash Then tell us the ID of the newly-created bug. 2. If step 1 failed then look at https://errors.ubuntu.com/user/ID where ID is the content of file /var/lib/whoopsie/whoopsie-id on the machine. Do you find any links to recent problems on that page? If so then please send the links to us. 3. If step 2 also failed then apply the workaround from bug 994921, reboot, reproduce the crash, and retry step 1. Please take care to avoid attaching .crash files to bugs as we are unable to process them as file attachments. It would also be a security risk for yourself.
